Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon.

The next morning Ash woke up earlier than usual which had become a custom on days before a gym battle. He decided against trying to get back to sleep since he had to be up in an hour anyway. After lying in the bed for a few minutes Ash got up being careful not too wake Rai, Meowth, Ralts and Eevee and went into the bathroom to have a shower. He came out not long after and was disappointed so see that he still had half an hour to kill. He down on the chair and started thinking about what he could do for half an hour. He suddenly got an idea when he saw the incubator sitting on the bedside cabinet. He took out his Pokédex and put Raimodo name in the search function again.

"Let's see what else we can find out about Raimodo." Ash whispered.

"Raimodo the electric lizard Poké..." the machine was cut off by Ash pressing the fast forward button.

"Yeah I know that part."

He kept fast forwarding until he was past that section. He was just about to press the play button when he felt something jump on to his lap. He looked down and saw Ralts and Eevee looking up at him.

"Sorry did I wake you two up?"

Eevee and Ralts shook their heads and snuggled into Ash's lap. He smiled at them and wrapped his left arm around them tightly, pulling them closer to him. He lowered the Pokédex so that his daughters could see it and they both looked at it.

"So do you want to find out a little bit about your future little brother or sister?"

Eevee and Ralts both nodded and watched their dad press a button.

"When Raimodo is young it's skin is soft and will only start to harden when it is ready to start training. It's skin will in time become like chainmail and will be incredibly tough. No further information is available."

Ash was saddened by what the Pokédex had told him as it meant that the Raimodo that they had revived before was only very young when it died. He sighed sadly as he placed the Pokédex back on his belt, he then started to gently stroke his daughters heads which made them sigh happily.

Ash wasn't sure how long he'd been sat with Eevee and Ralts but he knew that a decent amount of time must have passed. He quickly checked the time and saw that the half an hour had almost passed. He placed Eevee and Ralts on the table and nudged Rai and Meowth until they reluctantly woke up. They got off of the bed and stood either side of Ash, Eevee and Ralts then jumped on to their dads shoulders and after Ash picked up the incubator they all left the room. Ash was quick to lead them to Salem's room and he knocked on the door.

"Salem wake up."

There was no response other than a few gentle snores. Ash knocked a little harder this time, he was desperate to have his gym battle as soon as possible and was sure that Salem would feel the same way if she was in his shoes.

"Salem come on I wanna have my gym battle."

He waited for a couple of minutes but still got no response so he decided to go to the cafeteria and get some breakfast. When he got to the cafeteria he found that it was empty so he sent out all of his Pokémon and they all got a plate of food. They then crowded around one table and quickly demolished the meal, Ash was the last to finish as he had been constant looking at the entrance to the cafeteria hoping to see Salem but there was still no sign of her.

After waiting for another half hour Ash got up, picked up the incubator then and returned his Pokémon, he couldn't wait any longer so he left the cafeteria and walked into the lobby. He spotted Nurse Joy stood behind the desk and got an idea. He walked up to the main desk which drew Nurse Joy's attention and she smiled brightly at him.

"Hello Ash is there anything I can do for you?" Nurse Joy asked.

"Actually Nurse Joy I wondering if you could tell my friend Salem that I went to have my gym battle. I tried knocking on her door but I got no response."

"Sure Ash. I'll tell her as soon as I see her."

Ash gave Nurse Joy a grateful smile and then walked out of the Pokémon Centre heading straight for the gym.

Ash walked into the gym and was greeted by a confident looking Flannery who was stood in the gym leader box waiting for him. He saw Mr Moore sat on a bench on the sidelines and presumed that he would take on the referee duties for their match. Ash walked into the challengers trainer box and met Flannery's confident stare. A smirk appeared on both trainers faces and they waited for their referee today to make the announcement. Mr Moore got up and stood in the referee's position.

"This is a three vs three gym battle between Ash and Flannery. The challenger is the only one allowed to make substitutions. Flannery choose your first Pokémon."

Flannery took a Pokéball off her belt and threw it.

"Magcargo scorch the field."

The snail Pokémon burst out of its Pokéball and appeared on the battlefield, he quickly shot a Flamethrower into the air to show he was ready to fight. Ash's could feel himself getting more excited to fight this gym battle, he took a Pokéball of his own and sent out the Pokémon inside of it.

"Hitmontop to the battlefield."

The fighting type did a quick spin on his head spike and then got on to his feet. Hitmontop was ready and raring to go, he'd been waiting a long time to have his first gym battle and it was finally time.

"Go for a Flamethrower."

"Block it with Rapid Spin."

Magcargo opened his mouth and shot an intense burst of flames at Hitmontop, the fighting type immediately flipped on to his head spike and started spinning again but this time at a much faster speed. The flames hit the spinning Hitmontop and were deflected away, some of them going straight back to Magcargo. The flames engulfed Magcargo but didn't do much more than anger the Lava Pokémon. Hitmontop stopped spinning and smirked at the enraged glare on Magcargo's face.

On the sidelines Mr Moore was watching the match intently. After his battle with Ash yesterday he had wanted to see what strategies he would use to combat his granddaughter and so far he was not disappointed.

'That boy's definitely got potential, he could be a future Champion. I'll have to keep an eye on his progress.' Mr Moore thought.

He looked to his granddaughter and wondered what she'd do now that Ash had so easily countered Magcargo's most powerful move.

Flannery could tell that Magcargo was frustrated with himself as well as Hitmontop. He'd always hated seeing his moves countered especially when it was fired back at him. She just hoped that she could get him to calm down otherwise this first battle wouldn't last long.

"Magcargo calm down and start a Sandstorm, then use Flame Charge."

"Use Foresight and stop Magcargo with Mach Punch."

The fire type calmed himself and a tornado of sand surrounded him, the tornado gradually increased in size until it finally covered the entire battlefield. While the sand covered the battlefield Hitmontop closed his eyes and focussed on his surroundings, he then opened his eyes and found that despite the sand swirling around him he could see Magcargo. The fire types body then became engulfed in flames and he charged at Hitmontop who's fist was glowing white. The fighting type waited until Magcargo was close and then he threw his fist forward hitting Magcargo's flame engulfed body. The two Pokémon both struggled to overpower their opponent but neither of them could push the other back. Ash and Flannery looked at their Pokémon struggling for dominance and the latter suddenly got an idea. Since Hitmontop was having to stop Magcargo he wouldn't be able to Rapid Spin to block another Flamethrower.

"Flamethrower."

"Mach Uppercut!" Ash yelled hoping that Hitmontop understood.

Magcargo opened his mouth but before he could shoot a Flamethrower a glowing fist crashed under his jaw, shutting his mouth and making him stagger back to Flannery. He shook his head to try and regain his senses but the uppercut he'd been hit with had a lot of power behind it.

"Brick Break while he's disorientated."

Hitmontop nodded and ran at Magcargo as his right arm glowed white. Flannery watched the fighting type charging at Magcargo and knew that he would take a lot of damage from that attack. She looked at the fire type and saw that he still seemed out of it.

"Magcargo you've got to move." Flannery said desperately.

Magcargo heard the fear in his trainers voices and immediately regained his senses and shot off to his right, dodging Hitmontop's arm that slammed into the battlefield and got stuck in the ground. Hitmontop tried to pull his arm out of the ground but found that it was almost impossible to move it. He cried out in pain as he was engulfed in flames, he fell to his knees and looked at Magcargo who didn't look like he was going to stop any time soon.

"Use Mach Punch to get your arm free, then Dig underground and use Brick Break."

Hitmontop did his best to ignore the pain he was feeling from the Flamethrower and his list fist glowed white. He then slammed his fist into the ground which shattered the ground around his arm. With his arm freed he then dug underground which gave him a much needed break. Magcargo stopped the Flamethrower and started looking around trying to find where Hitmontop would appear from. Moments later the ground next to Magcargo shook and Hitmontop burst out of the ground. The fighting type slammed his arm down on Magcargo's shell creating a crack that ran from the top of it all the way to the bottom. Hitmontop then jumped back, landing in front of Ash just as the Sandstorm stopped.

Flannery was worried about how much damage Magcargo had sustained however thanks to all of the attacks he'd been hit by they were now in a position to turn this around.

"Flame Charge."

"Stop him with another Brick Break."

Flames surrounded Magcargo again and he shot at Hitmontop so fast that the fighting type didn't even have enough time to charge his Brick Break. Magcargo slammed into Hitmontop and sent the fighting type crashing into the wall behind Ash, he looked back at Hitmontop and was relieved to see him get up and walk back on to the battlefield. Hitmontop was quickly hit by another Flame Charge which him fall to one knee however he easily got back up.

'How the hell is he so fast?' Hitmontop asked.

Ash was pretty sure he knew what Hitmontop said as he watched Magcargo move almost as quickly as Rai.

"It must have Weak Armour as its ability so as you've been hitting him he's been getting faster. But that means his defence is much lower now. We'll have to hit him hard and fast if we wanna win this."

Hitmontop nodded but was then knocked off his feet by the charging Magcargo. The fire type moved back in front of his trainer and smirked as Hitmontop pushed himself to his feet.

"Keep using Flame Charge."

Flannery was sure that it would only take a few more charges to finish off Hitmontop and thanks to the massive speed boost Magcargo had gotten from Weak Armour and from using Flame Charge meant that he could well sweep Ash's team. The Lava Pokémon slammed into Hitmontop but the fighting type managed to stay on his feet, Ash then had an idea as Magcargo rammed into Hitmontop again.

"Use Rapid Spin to block his next Flame Charge."

Flannery and Mr Moore were confused by Ash's choice of move. Rapid Spin wasn't a particularly strong move and it wouldn't be that effective at stopping a charging Magcargo. Hitmontop was also pretty confused but he wouldn't question his trainer so he got on to his head spike and started spinning. Magcargo looked back at his trainer wondering whether he should attack again. Flannery nodded and Magcargo once shot off towards the now spinning Hitmontop. The confusion for Flannery and Mr Moore only increased when they saw Ash smirk

"Now Rolling Kick."

One of Hitmontop's feet glowed white and he slammed it into Magcargo's face. The fire type cried out in agony and went flying back to Flannery, she looked worriedly at Magcargo who hadn't moved since the attack. To her surprise Magcargo managed to get back up. She wasn't sure that letting him continue was a good idea however when she saw the look in his eyes she knew that he wanted to finish this no matter what. She reluctantly allowed him to continue, Flannery took another look at her Pokémon and could see that Magcargo was exhausted and that the only way he could keep going would be if he regained some strength.

"Use Recover."

"Hit him with a Mach Punch before he can heal himself."

Magcargo started glowing white however before he could feel the effects of Recover Hitmontop charged across the battlefield and slammed his fist into Magcargo's already weakened shell. The force behind the punch was enough to finally make the shell shatter which was all it took to finish Magcargo off.

"Magcargo is unable to battle, Flannery choose your next Pokémon." Mr Moore declared.

Flannery returned Magcargo and swapped his Pokéball with another one.

"Camerupt scorch the field."

Camerupt landed on the ground and caused a small tremor, Ash took a look from Camerupt to Hitmontop and knew that the fighting type wouldn't be able to beat Camerupt due to the damage he had sustained during the battle with Magcargo.

"Hitmontop return, Meowstic to the battlefield."

The fighting type looked relieved that he'd be getting a rest and was quickly replaced by the psychic feline. Meowstic looked around the building and wondered whether she had finally gotten her chance to have a gym battle. She looked back at Ash who was smiling at her, he knew that this was probably her first gym battle so she'd probably need a moment for this to sink in.

"This is your first gym battle and it won't be your last Meowstic. Let's do this."

The feline felt tears build in her eyes, she ran back to Ash and hugged him while repeatedly thanking him for believing in her. He returned the hug and wiped away her tears. Flannery and Mr Moore watched Ash and Meowstic curiously, wondering why Meowstic had suddenly started to cry.

"Is your Meowstic okay?" Flannery asked.

"Yeah, she's just never had a gym battle before and she's really happy." Ash replied.

Meowstic calmed down and broke the hug with Ash, she gave him a smile and then walked on to the battlefield with a confident, determined grin on her face. When she was sure that Meowstic was ready to battle Flannery nodded at Camerupt who stamped his feet on the ground to show that he was ready.

"Start with a Flamethrower."

"Fire a Shadow Ball and enhance it with Psychic."

Camerupt opened his mouth and shot a burst of flames at Meowstic who had formed a orb of black energy in her hands. She launched the orb at the Flamethrower, the attacks clashed and were evenly matched. Meowstic's ears then opened and she emitted an immense amount of psychic energy that surrounded the Shadow Ball which allowed the orb of black energy to cut through the Flamethrower and slammed into Camerupt. The ground type was knocked back however due to him digging his feet into the ground he stayed on his feet. Camerupt stomped angrily and he growled in both pain and annoyance.

"Now use Signal Beam, then throw him at the wall with Psychic."

A white orb was quickly formed in Meowstic's hands and she fired a rainbow coloured beam from the orb. The beam hit Camerupt before Flannery had a chance to give a command, the attack didn't appear to damage Camerupt however he was now staggering about clearly suffering from confusion due to the attack. The ground type was then surrounded in a blue glow and was thrown into the wall behind Flannery. She looked back at watched as Camerupt got up but was still dizzily stumbling around. A wave of psychic energy suddenly sent Camerupt slamming into the wall again, this time the fire type didn't get up as quickly and was now looking worse for wear.

"Please snap out of it and use Magnitude." Flannery pleaded.

The desperation in Flannery's voice broke through the confusion and Camerupt snapped out of it. He then slammed his feet on the ground as hard as he could which created a massive tremor that seemed to make the very foundation of the building shake. The tremors knocked Meowstic off her feet and she cried out in pain as the intense shaking injured her. A crack then appeared in the battlefield and Meowstic fell down the hole, she let out a pained yelp as when she crashed to the ground. Meowstic managed to get back out of the crevice and stood albeit on shaky legs in front of Ash.

"Rock Slide."

"Double Team."

The tremors from the Magnitude had broken up parts of the battlefield, turning the areas into rubble. Camerupt stood in the one of the piles of rubble and he used his head to throw several large stones at Meowstic. The rock slammed down on the area where Meowstic had been stood but they just passed through and hit the ground. Camerupt looked around and saw numerous Meowstic now stood around him. Flannery looked at the horde of Meowstic now in front of her and tried to pinpoint the real one but despite her best efforts she couldn't tell them apart. The only to find the real one would be to hit all of them at once.

"Hit them all with Lava Plume."

Two blasts of lava shot out of the two humps on Camerupts back and spread out in all directions. Meowstic's eyes widened as she saw the lava headed her way, she tried to move but her fear pinned her in place so she closed her eyes and despite knowing it wouldn't help she crossed her arms in front of her. After a minute of waiting and feeling nothing Meowstic opened her eyes and saw that the ground all around her had melted away leaving her standing on a small island. She looked around wondering what had happened, she looked at Ash hoping to get an explanation.

"A Light Screen appeared around you just before the lava was going to hit you. The lava was stopped by the Light which is why the ground looks like that."

Meowstic was over the moon that she had learned Light Screen even though it had been a very scary way to learn a move. She focussed on the battle and saw that Camerupt was now breathing heavily which considering everything he'd suffered from so far wasn't surprising. Flannery saw the state Camerupt was in and knew that he didn't have much left, he'd been slammed into the wall a few times and used moves that he hadn't really used for a while so his tiredness didn't surprise her either.

"Go for another Lava Plume, she won't get that lucky again."

"Use a couple of rocks to block the volcano's on his back."

Camerupt needed some time to create the lava as he'd put it all into the last attack, Meowstic saw that she had some time so she looked around trying to find a couple of rocks that would firmly block the volcano's. She finally chose two and lifted them up with her psychic powers, the rocks were then forcefully rammed into Camerupt's volcano's just as he released the Lava Plume. The lava was trapped by the stones so Camerupt had no choice but to put more power into the attack and try to melt the rocks. It had the intended effect however he put a little too much energy into it and the lava shot straight up, burning a whole through the ceiling. Camerupt then collapsed, he had used all of his energy to force that attack through. Mr Moore looked at Camerupt and could see that he was in no position to carry on.

"Camerupt is unable to battle, Flannery choose your final Pokémon."

Flannery returned Camerupt and took her final Pokéball off of her belt.

"Torkoal it's up to you now."

Ash quickly returned Meowstic, there was no way she'd be able to do much to Torkoal when he was fully fit.

"Kingler to the battlefield."

The Pincer Pokémon appeared on the battlefield and gnashed his pincers. Torkoal responded by shooting smoke out of it's mouth and shell.

"Use Bubblebeam."

"Burst them with Flamethrower."

Kingler opened his mouth and fired a torrent of bubbles at Torkoal. The fire type smirked as the bubbles approached him, he opened his mouth and shot a massive Flamethrower at the bubbles. The flames easily burst the bubbles and shot threw to Kingler, bathing him in flames. The crab let out a grunt as the flames burnt him.

"Holy hell that Torkoal is tougher than I expected. Try a Mud Shot."

The Pincer Pokémon quickly shot several balls of mud at Torkoal, the mud hit Torkoal and he was blinded when one of the balls splattered on his face and got in his eyes. Ash and Kingler felt a bit cocky as they watched Torkoal shake his head back and forth in an attempt to get the mud out of his eyes.

"Bury him with Rock Slide, drench him with Bubblebeam and then use Hyper Beam."

Kingler scooped up some of the rubble on the battlefield in his larger claw and threw the rocks at Torkoal, he quickly picked up a second claw full of rocks and threw them at Torkoal too . The rocks crashed down on Torkoal and he was buried under the rubble. Kingler then shot another stream of bubbles at Torkoal and he was rewarded when he heard Torkoal cry out in pain. An orange orb then formed in Kingler's larger claw and he shot an orange beam at Torkoal, the beam hit the rocks and turned them into dust which shrouded Torkoal from view however the loud pained yelp suggested that Torkoal had probably been taken out by that barrage.

Kingler had already turned back to Ash, ready to celebrate when he felt an orb of something hit him and dribble down him. He looked at the ground where a puddle of purple ooze was slowly forming, he looked at his trainer who was looking in complete amazement at whatever had attacked him. Kingler turned around and saw Torkoal standing and looking in much better condition than he had any right to be.

"How is he still standing after that?" Ash said in shock.

"That was a pretty good attack Ash, now it's our turn. Torkoal use Body Slam."

"Stop him with Bubblebeam."

Torkoal charged at Kingler who fired a third stream of bubbles at the fire type who simple pushed through them. He then leapt into the air and slammed down on to Kingler. The crab tried to throw him off but Torkoal was pinning him down.

"Now use Solar Beam."

Torkoal opened his mouth and a green orb formed in his mouth, Kingler struggled to get free but Torkoal had him trapped. Moments later a green beam shot from the orb and it slammed into Kingler at point blank range. Ash was worried when he saw Torkoal leap away from a prone and unmoving Kingler. To Ash's relief Kingler got up but he was struggling to stay upright, Ash was now regretting celebrating so early. He should have known better than too celebrate too soon, if he'd have kept attacking then maybe this wouldn't have happened.

"Put all of your strength into a Crabhammer." Ash said.

Water surrounded Kingler's large claw and he ran at Torkoal, when he was close he slammed his claw down on Torkoal's back which made the fire types legs wobble but he stayed on his feet.

"Overheat."

Torkoal glowed red and then unleashed a massive amount of flames in all directions, Kingler had no chance to get away from the flames so he was engulfed by the flames. He felt the powerful fire attack scorch him despite the type disadvantage the move had and then everything went black. When the flames had died down everyone saw that Kingler was burnt and unconscious.

"Kingler is unable to battle, Ash choose your next Pokémon."

"You fought hard Kingler return."

Ash the crab was returned to his Pokéball which Ash placed back on his belt. Ash then looked at Torkoal who appeared to still looked like he had a lot of energy. He started to think that maybe Wartortle would have been a better choice than Kingler since Torkoal has such a good defence. He shook the thought away and focussed on the battle.

"Damn that Torkoal is tough, Meowstic to the battlefield."

The feline reappeared and looked at her opponent

"Alright Meowstic let's win this badge."

Meowstic nodded and focussed fully on Torkoal.

"Use Flamethrower until Meowstic faints."

Ash was certain that he wouldn't be able to overpower Torkoal's Flamethrower like he had done to Camerupt's.

"Dodge the flames and fire Shadow Ball's when you get a chance."

Torkoal opened his mouth shot shot a burst of flames at Meowstic who quickly dodged the flames, she then quickly shot an orb of black energy at Torkoal. The orb slammed into his side which made him grunt in pain. Torkoal quickly turned and shot a Flamethrower at the area Meowstic was now standing however the same thing happened again as she dodged the attack and he felt another Shadow Ball hit him. This carried on a couple more times until Torkoal couldn't shoot another Flamethrower. Meowstic returned to her place in front of Ash and to her and Ash's surprise Torkoal was now breathing heavily, Ash wondered how a few of Shadow Ball's could do that much damage that's when one of the lessons Professor Oak had told him came to mind.

'Remember Ash, Pokémon with high defences are usually very good at hiding how much damage they'd taken. So the Pokémon may have taken much more damage than they are letting on.'

"Thanks Professor. I'm glad that you taught me everything you knew." Ash murmured.

Flannery didn't hear what Ash said however Mr Moore had done, a small smile appeared on his face as he knew that this match was over.

'He's realised that Torkoal has taken more damage than even Flannery thinks. He's won this battle without that Raichu who is almost certainly his strongest Pokémon. Now I'm certain that he's destined for greatness.' Mr Moore thought.

"Put all of you strength into a Psybeam."

"Now is your chance to finish her Torkoal, go for another Flamethrower."

Meowstic nodded and fully opened her ears which unleashed her full power, she then fired a beam of psychic energy at Torkoal who had opened his mouth and fired the most powerful Flamethrower so far at Meowstic. The Flamethrower passed through the centre of the Psybeam and bathed Meowstic in flames, Meowstic screamed in pain as the flames scorched her but kept focussing on her Psybeam. The Psybeam hit Torkoal and he felt the last of his energy being sapped, eventually it was too much for the fire type and the Flamethrower stopped as he fell forward unconscious.

"Torkoal is unable to battle, since all of Flannery's Pokémon are unable to battle the winner is Ash Ketchum."

Ash ran on to the battlefield and got on his knees so he could cradle Meowstic who was in immense pain but she felt incredibly happy that she had helped Ash win a badge.

"You did it Meowstic, I'm so proud of you. Now take a well earned rest."

Meowstic smiled and then in a flash of red she was returned to her Pokéball, Ash stood up and felt someone wrap their arms around him from behind. He looked back and saw that it was Salem hugging him.

"Salem, when did you get here?"

"About the time that Meowstic beat Camerupt."

Ash turned around and returned the hug, he then recoiled as he felt her punch his shoulder.

"What was that for?"

"That was for leaving me behind."

"But I.. You were.. I... Never mind." Ash said with a sigh.

Rai and Meowth broke out laughing at Ash, he ignored them and picked up the incubator. He then walked towards Flannery who was in utter shock, she returned Torkoal and then looked to her right as she saw her granddad.

"I-I don't understand. Torkoal looked so strong after beating Kingler."

"Torkoal was hiding how weak he was. He fought hard for you but Ash and his Pokémon were just too powerful. Now don't be sad about losing, that was the best battle I've ever seen you have."

Flannery felt a great deal of pride for both herself and he Pokémon as she realised that her granddad was right. She then saw Ash approaching and took out a Heat Badge out of her pocket.

"Here Ash, I present you with the Heat Badge."

Ash took his badge and was about to thank Flannery for the battle when a woman burst into the gym.

"Hey what's going on?" Flannery asked.

"Team Magma are attacking Mt Chimney, there's a girl up there fighting them already but she's gonna need help."

"Flannery stay here in case Team Magma attack Lavaridge. Me, Ash and Salem will help at Mt Chimney." Mr Moore said.

"Okay granddad, just be careful."

Mr Moore gave his granddaughter a quick hug and then led Ash and Salem out of the gym and towards Mt Chimney.

Meanwhile on Mt Chimney a woman in a black suit and mask was stood in front of Maxie. She opened the bag she was carrying and passed an object to Maxie.

"Here's your meteorite. Now pay up." the woman said.

Maxie threw a bag at her feet, she opened and saw that it was filled with cash.

"Take your money and go. Also tell your uncle that we want nothing more to do with him. We know how he usually does business and I'm surprised that the job you just did hasn't ended up with a mountain of bodies."

The woman was confused by Maxie's response but didn't really care what a man who wanted to forcefully make a volcano erupt had to say. She picked up the bag and got on to her Salamence who quickly flew away. Maxie smirked at the fading view and wondered how long it would take her to realise that there was not a single legitimate Pokedollar in that bag. Once she was out of sight Maxie took the meteorite and placed it on a machine near the volcano's summit.

"With this machine we'll make this volcano erupt and expand the landmass so there are more places for people and Pokémon to live."

A man in a Team Magma outfit then walked up to Maxie.

"Sir the girl has defeated the first group of grunts you sent to her." the man said.

"Just send everyone to attack her. When she has been crushed send everyone back to their posts."

The man nodded and went to give the order leaving Maxie alone with the machine. The leader of Team Magma pulled a lever and a whirring noise could be heard as the machine started to react to the meteorite.

Mr Moore, Ash and Salem arrived at the base of Mt Chimney a few minutes later but found that the cable car system had been disabled.

"Great now what do we do?" Ash said.

"We fly." Mr Moore replied.

The former Elite 4 member then took a Pokéball off his belt and another one of his fire types burst out of it in a ball of flames. When the flames died down Ash and Salem stared in amazement at the massive black Charizard in front of them. It stood well over eight feet and would make Ash's Charizard which was the largest at Charific Valley look tiny.

"Holy crap that Charizard is enormous." Ash said.

Mr Moore chuckled at Ash and Salem.

"Come on get on his back." Mr Moore instructed.

"But where will you sit?" Salem asked.

"Charizard will carry me in his arms."

"Are you sure that's safe?"

"You don't need to worry about me, Charizard is very strong and could carry all three of us in one hand. But thank you for your concern."

Ash and Salem got on to the dragons back, Charizard then picked up his trainer and after giving everyone a minute to get ready he flew at full speed to the top of Mt Chimney. It only took a minute for Charizard to reach the summit, he landed and allowed everyone to dismount. Mr Moore thanked Charizard and then returned the dragon. Mr Moore looked at the two paths ahead of them and on the one to his left he saw a single person which he knew was Maxie with a machine and in the other path he saw a large group of grunts and he could hear the sounds of battle.

"Ash I need you and Salem to help the girl take out the grunts and I'll deal with the leader of Team Magma."

Ash and Salem nodded in agreement, usually Ash would have questioned the decision by someone to fight the leader on their own however he knew that Mr Moore could easily handle what ever the leader threw at him. The young trainers quickly ran down the right path and saw the girl they were looking for. Ash's eyes widened as he saw the former Unova Champion Alessandra Cesarini fighting a losing battle against countless Pokémon.

"Come on we gotta help her." Salem said.

Ash and Salem ran towards Alex hoping that she was okay.

Alex saw Dust her faithful Dustox crash to the ground next to her and was scared for him when she saw the burns covering his body. They'd taken out a lot of the grunts Pokémon but there was still so many of them still fighting.

"There's too many of these guys." Alex muttered.

She looked at her Pokémon and could see that only her Serperior was the only one who had the strength to fight. She turned her gaze back to all of the fire type Pokémon in front of her and knew that King had no chance, the grunts all called out for their Pokémon to use a Flamethrower and she could only watch in horror as several Flamethrower's were now headed at King.

"Use Thunderbolt." two voices called out.

Suddenly four bolts of electricity came out of nowhere and blocked the attacks, she looked around trying to spot who fired the attacks and saw two trainers with their Meowth, Luxray and a pair of Raichu by their side. The boy had a Ralts and Eevee on his shoulders but they both appeared to be too young to battle.

"Hey are you okay." Ash asked.

"Yeah I'm fine, my Pokémon aren't though." Alex replied.

Ash and Salem saw the injuries littering the bodies of her Pokémon, they exchanged a look and then took a couple of Pokéballs off their belt and sent out a pair of Togetic.

"Both of you use Heal Bell and Wish on her Pokémon."

The Togetic nodded and shone white, the light then transferred to Alex's Pokémon and their injuries faded. They then got back up and thanks both of the Togetic who now felt exhausted after expending so much energy to heal the Pokémon. Ash and Salem returned their Pokémon and then took the rest of their Pokéballs off their belts.

"You ready to start round two?" Ash asked while looking at Alex

"Yeah, let do this." Alex replied.

"Heracross, Nincada and Butterfree to the battlefield."

"Plusle, Minun, Galvantula and Jolteon charge into battle."

The Pokémon all lined up and got ready to battle all of the Team Magma grunts Pokémon.

Notes

We'll learn a bit more about Alex next chapter and the woman who handed the meteorite to Maxie will be met a bit later in the story.

Alex Cesarini was created by a good friend of mine. Her profile is Legendary Fairy and she is writing an awesome story called Pokémon X and Y: A menace to Kalos, so check it out when you got a a bit of spare time.

The woman who gave the meteorite to Maxie was created by CharmedMillie who is writing an excellent story called the Guardian of Forever, so if you get some spare time please go and read it.

Thanks for reading this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it.
