Thanks for the reviews guys I really appreciate you taking the time to write one.

I got a guest review from blabla enquiring about why I hadn't uploaded a new chapter for a while. So I thought I'd answer his question. I have been quite ill recently which combined with my other commitments has meant that I've not really had a lot of spare time to write. I'm hoping to get a couple of chapters done in the next week to make up for the long wait.

Here's chapter 33 I hope you enjoy.

The doors to the Pokémon Centre opened a few minutes later and to Ash and Salem's surprise they saw that it was Alex who looked disappointed, she sat down next to Ash sighed.

"Hey what's wrong? And why are you back already?" Ash asked.

"I challenged Flannery but she told me that she owed Salem a battle so I'd have to wait."

Realisation suddenly flashed on Salem's face.

"Oh that's right she said that I could have a rematch."

Salem immediately got up and started walking towards the door.

"Wait a second Salem., I'm coming with you." Ash said.

She turned around and smiled at him.

"It's okay Ash you stay here. I'm sure you have some calls to make and you said that you wanted to swap some of your Pokémon. Besides I'm sure that Alex will come with me so she can battle Flannery after me."

Alex nodded and followed Salem out of the Pokémon Centre. Ash sat back down and started thinking about who to bring over and who to send back. He eventually made up his mind and chose to send back everyone he had called over apart from Heracross. He needed one of his stronger Pokémon to combat Norman's Slaking and Heracross was the perfect choice. He sent out the Pokémon who were going to be returned and gave them all training instructions, he started returning them when he saw that Meowstic had tears in her eyes. He picked up the feline and placed her in his lap, Meowstic looked up at Ash and hugged him tightly as she buried her head into his shirt and let out her tears. He returned the embrace and held her as she cried.

"Hey, hey what's wrong?" Ash asked.

He heard Meowstic mumble something into his shirt and looked to Meowth for a translation.

"She thinks that you're getting rid of her like all her other trainers did."

Ash could understand why she felt that way after the way her previous trainers traded her away without even telling her.

"Meowstic look at me." Ash said softly but firmly.

The feline reluctantly pulled her head away from him and looked up at him. Ash felt his heart break as he looked at her tear stained fur. He gently wiped her tears away and kept holding her tightly.

"I promise that I will never get rid of you. You will always be a part of this family. I'm just sending you back to meet the rest of the family and so I can bring some of them over here."

Meowstic smiled in relief, she purred happily as she felt Ash stroke her head.

"Are you okay now?"

She nodded and smiled at Ash.

"Right I'm gonna return you now. I'll see you later."

Meowstic gave Ash one more hug and was returned, he placed the Pokéball back on his belt for the time being and got up. He then picked up the egg and walked over to the phones, he considered calling his mother first but decided to trade his Pokémon first. He placed the incubator on the desk next to the phone and dialled Professor Oak's number. Moment's later Tracey's face appeared on the screen.

"Hi Tracey how are you?"

"Hey Ash, I'm fine thanks. How have you been?"

"I've been doing great, I won my fourth badge earlier."

"Congratulations Ash. I don't know if you're curious but Gary hasn't even gotten his third yet. He thought that bypassing it and battling in the Togepi Tournament would give him the training he'd need to win but he failed. We haven't heard from him since though which is strange. Enough about Gary, I'm guessing you called to switch some Pokémon?"

"Yeah, is the Professor there?"

"Yep I'll go get him."

Tracey walked off screen leaving Ash to think about what Tracey had just told him. He sat there and while he felt a bit smug that he now had four badge while Gary only had two he was also worried that they hadn't heard from him since then.

"Probably still nursing his bruised ego." Ash murmured.

Meowth and Rai gave a short chuckle and a quick nod showing that they agreed with him. Professor Oak suddenly appeared on screen and smiled however the smile quickly vanished and he went rigid when he spotted the incubator that was sat on the table next to Ash. The raven haired boy noticed the way Professor Oak's body language changed when he saw the egg and knew that this was his chance to find out why the Professor had withheld information from him.

"Hey Professor."

"H-hello Ash, what can I do for you today?"

"Well there are a couple of things. The first thing is that I want to do is swap some Pokémon."

"Okay then let's deal with that first. Who are you sending me and who do you want me to send to you?"

"I'm sending back Ninjask, Shedinja, Kingler, Meowstic, Butterfree and Hitmontop. In return I want Cyndaquil, Sandshrew and Sneasel."

"I'll go get them now. You know what to do."

Ash nodded at Professor Oak who got up and walked outside to go and retrieve the Pokémon Ash had asked for. Meanwhile Ash took the Pokéballs containing the Pokémon he was sending to the Professor off of his belt and placed them in the transfer machine. Professor Oak returned a few minutes later with three Pokéballs, he placed them in the transfer machine and pressed a button. Ash watched as his Pokéballs vanished and were replaced by three, he took the Pokéballs and placed them on his belt.

"Thanks Professor."

"It's no problem. Now Ash what's the second thing you wanted to talk to me about?"

"I want to know why you didn't tell me about Raimodo?"

Professor Oak sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose, he knew that Ash would ask that as soon as he saw that egg.

"I'm sorry Ash but what happened to Raimodo was a story I didn't want to tell. You see I was the one who was taking care of Raimodo. When they gave her to me she was just a couple of weeks old, she was so small and cute. I took care of her like every other young Pokémon but one day about a month later I came down to feed her and found that she had passed away during the night. I was crushed and in my sorrow I almost destroyed all of the data I had collected about her."

Professor Oak opened a draw on his desk and took out a photo, he showed it too Ash who looked sadly at it. The picture was of a smiling Professor Oak cuddling a small lizard which Ash assumed to be Raimodo.

"I was just hoping that someone would find another one that we could use as the example for all of our research data. I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

"That's terrible, I'm so sorry Professor. I can understand why you didn't tell me and I'm sorry for forcing such a horrible story out of you."

"It's fine Ash."

"So I'm sure you're busy so I'll let you get back to work."

"Okay Ash, take care of yourself."

"You too Professor, goodbye."

"Farewell."

Ash hung up the phone and dialled his mothers number, he just hoped that she wasn't busy at the restaurant. He waited patiently for a couple of minutes but the call wasn't received, he hung up and sighed.

"I guess she's busy today." Ash mumbled.

He got up and walked back to the table he'd been sat at, he placed the incubator in front of him and looked at it worriedly. Despite what Greg had said Ash was still concerned that the Raimodo in this egg could suffer the same fate that the one they had found before had. He wasn't sure if he could handle seeing a Pokémon that he hatched die. Ralts and Eevee saw the sad look on their dads face and they didn't like it so they jumped on to his shoulders and nuzzled him. Ash couldn't stop himself from smiling at his daughters, he took them off of his shoulders and hugged them tightly.

"Thanks, you two always know how to put a smile on my face."

Eevee and Ralts smiled happily at their dad and snuggled into his embrace. Ash loved the feeling of them in his arms and he tightened his hold on them. Suddenly Rai and Meowth stepped forward and looked from the egg to Ash. They could tell that he was still worried about the possibility of Raimodo dying.

'Ash stop worrying, Raimodo will not die.' Rai said firmly.

"Yeah boss, Raimodo will be fine." Meowth added.

"Y-yeah you guys are right." Ash replied.

Ash knew that he needed something to take his mind off of this so he left the Pokémon Centre and headed to the Lavaridge gym to watch Flannery battle Salem and then Alex. He walked into the gym just in time to see Plusle take down a Vulpix, he spotted Alex sat on bench and sat down next to her.

"So how's Salem doing?" Ash asked.

"She's got her Plusle and Minun while Flannery only has her last Pokémon."

Ash wondered what Flannery's last Pokémon would be, he got his answer when an intimidating Arcanine appeared. He turned his attention to Plusle who looked terrified, she took a few steps back until she bumped into something. She looked back and saw her mate smiling at her.

'Don't worry I've got this.' Minun stated confidently.

Plusle nodded and after giving Minun a brief hug she walked off of the battlefield and stood next to Salem. She watched as Minun fought bravely but he was finally beaten by a powerful Overheat, this meant that it was up to her. She looked at her mate and felt a rush of courage, she walked forward and stood in front of Arcanine meeting his intense gaze. The battle was tough and by the end Plusle's whole body hurt but she was standing whereas Arcanine was unconscious. Salem picked up the victorious electric type and gently cradled her, Plusle smiled and then passed out. Flannery approached Salem and handed her a Heat Badge, she then looked at Alex who was already headed towards the challengers box and walked back to hers.

Salem sat down next to Ash and returned Plusle.

"That was a great battle Salem. Plusle fought really hard to win."

"Yeah she did, I'm extremely proud of her."

Ash and Salem then turned their attention to the battle that had started between Alex and Flannery. The match didn't take long, Alex had had a much easier job defeating Flannery which considering she was a former Champion wasn't that surprising. The former Champion accepted the badge even though she had no intention of competing in the Hoenn League and the trio walked out of the gym.

A few minutes later they were sat in the Pokémon Centre waiting for Salem and Alex's Pokémon to be healed. When the Pokémon were healed they all decided to have another trip to the Hot Springs which their Pokémon seemed to like the sound of, apart from Cyndaquil and Sandshrew who chose to lie on the ground next to the water.

They only left when the Hot Springs were closing for the evening, they went back to the Pokémon Centre and spent what was left of the day exchanging stories about their journeys so far. It wasn't until Eevee and Ralts yawned that they noticed how late it had gotten. They decided to call it a night and went upstairs to their rooms, they collapsed on the beds and quickly fell to sleep.

The next morning Ash, Salem and Alex left Lavaridge but were quickly forced to say their farewells because Alex had chosen to head through Fiery Path now that the smog had cleared. Ash and Salem waved at Alex until the former Unova Champion was out of sight and then headed east.

Time skip (2 weeks later)

It had taken Ash and Salem a couple of weeks to get back to Mauville mainly because they had chosen to stop and train for their upcoming gym battles with Norman in some clearings they found along the way. They headed towards the western exit so they could go and first see the Daycare couple and then hopefully get to Verdanturf tomorrow. As they passed the gym a familiar brown haired girl was walking out with Wattson. A smile appeared on his face and he walked over to them, Wattson spotted Ash and Salem first and clapped each of them him on the back.

"Wahahahaha! Well if it isn't Ash and Salem. How are you?"

"Hi Wattson. We're fine thanks, me and Salem just beat Flannery a couple of weeks ago and now we're on our way to challenge Norman."

"Well that's great to hear. I'd love to stay and chat but I'm needed at the Power Plant."

"Ok see ya Wattson."

Wattson quickly headed towards the Power Plant leaving Ash, Salem and Leaf. Ash turned his attention to Leaf who was smiling at him, he passed the incubator to Rai and pulled his old friend into a hug. Leaf blushed as she felt Ash's strong arms around her and she wrapped her arms around him, holding him tightly until he broke the hug.

"Hey Leaf how are you?" Ash asked.

"I'm fine thanks."

"So I'm guessing that you just won your third badge." Salem said.

Leaf presented her newly earned Bolt Badge to Ash and Salem.

"Congratulations!" Ash and Salem exclaimed.

"Thanks."

"Hey Leaf do you wanna stick around for a couple of days so we can chat?" Ash asked.

Leaf gave Ash a sad smile, as much as she wanted to stay with Ash for a while she had things to do.

"Sorry Ash but I want to head to Lavaridge and win my fourth badge as soon as possible. Maybe we'll meet up again soon."

Ash felt crushed that Leaf wanted to leave so soon but he could understand her desire to get the badges as quickly as possible. At the Mirage Kingdom she had told him that in her first year as a trainer, she had failed to collect all of the badges in time which had upset her especially when she saw him and Gary competing in the Indigo League.

"Yeah okay, I know how you don't want to miss out on the League. I'll see you soon." Ash replied.

Leaf hugged Ash and Salem briefly and then headed towards the Pokémon Centre. Ash and Salem watched Leaf enter the Pokémon Centre and then continued on the path towards Verdanturf Town.

A few hours later Ash and Salem spotted a familiar house with a large outbuilding, as they approached they saw that all of the Pokémon were relaxing outside since it was such a beautiful day. They walked up to the front door and Ash put the incubator in his bag while Salem rang the doorbell. The door was opened almost immediately and the two young trainers were greeted by Catherine who smiled brightly at them. She stepped out of the house and gave both of the young trainers a tight hug.

"Hello Ash and Salem it's wonderful to see you again. George! Ash and Salem are here! Please come in you two."

Ash and Salem walked into the house and followed Catherine to the living room where George was waiting for them. The old man hugged them just like his wife had and then sat down next to her while Ash and Salem took a seat on the sofa on the opposite side of the table. Catherine was quick to pour some tea for everyone and passed a mug to everyone.

"We didn't expect to see you both so soon." George stated

"Really?" Ash asked.

"Yes, well we thought that since Cycling Road was repaired you may have gone to Slateport and taken the cruise ship to rest up." Catherine said.

"We promised we'd come back here when we were going back to Petalburg." Salem replied.

"Yeah and we keep our promises." Ash added.

The old couple were touched by the young trainers words, they'd heard similar promises from trainers before but Ash and Salem were the first to keep the promise.

"Are you going to stay long?" Catherine asked.

Ash and Salem shared a look, they both had to admit that they wouldn't mind staying here for the night as they had enjoyed spending time with the couple but they knew that they were probably very busy.

"Well we don't want to impose on you." Ash started.

"You won't be imposing. Come on stay for the night." George interrupted.

The young trainers grinned.

"Okay, thanks." Ash and Salem said.

"It's our pleasure." George responded.

Catherine saw the two Raichu's and Meowth looking a bit bored.

"I'm sure that your Pokémon would enjoy being outside more than being stuck in here. They can join the others outside if they'd like to." Catherine suggested.

"That sounds like a good idea." Salem replied.

Ash and Salem downed their tea and then walked out of the living room closely followed by Meowth, Rai, Chu, Eevee and Ralts. They went out of the door that connected the house to the enclosure and sent out all of their Pokémon. The Pokémon looked around wondering why they were here.

"Guys we're gonna stay for the night so we're letting you stay outside. You can do whatever you want, just try not to get in any trouble." Ash said.

The Pokémon all nodded and walked off in different directions, some went to rest in the shade of the trees, some jumped into the pool and the rest joined the other Pokémon who were battling. Once they were sure that their Pokémon were all happy Ash and Salem walked back into the house and found that George and Catherine were still sat in the living room. The young trainers took a seat again and Ash took the incubator out of his bag and placed it on the table. He watched as Catherine and George's eyes widened as they looked at the egg that he had presented.

Catherine and George had only seen and egg like that once and they were immediately curious about how for Ash had obtained such a rare egg.

"How did you come across that egg?" George asked.

"We were part of the excavation team that was digging in the desert to the north of Mauville. I found this egg while digging and I showed it to Greg Crump who told me that this egg contains a Raimodo. So Catherine, George would you mind taking a look at this egg? I just wanna make sure that Raimodo is healthy."

"We'd be happy to do that for you Ash." Catherine replied.

Ash handed the incubator to Catherine and George, the old woman removed the lid and they careful removed the egg from the incubator. The Daycare couple then started examining the egg.

"Well this appears to be in much better condition that the first Raimodo egg. There's no cracks or chips in the shell." Catherine stated.

"Yes and the colour seems much healthier. The other egg was quite dull in comparison. Let's take this into the testing room." George added.

Catherine and George stood up, the former was firmly but gently holding the egg while the latter held the door out of the living room open. The Daycare couple then walked out of the room and were closely followed by Ash and Salem. They walked into the storage room for all of the eggs, Catherine approached a machine in the corner of the room and placed the egg into it. She then attached several cables to the egg, one of which was a heartbeat sensor and everyone was relieved to see that everything seemed fine. George removed the cables and gently gave the egg back to Ash.

"Well it seems that you're going to have a perfectly healthy male Raimodo." George said.

"Thank you for checking. Hey can I ask you a question?" Ash asked.

"Of course, ask away." George answered

"What do you know about the first Raimodo?"

"We don't really know much about her after she hatched." Catherine started.

A few tears started to fall from the old woman's eyes, she could still see the innocent look on Raimodo's face when she hatched. She could feel the flick of Raimodo's tongue on her cheek and the way her tail had curled around her finger. George saw his wife's distress and pulled her into a hug holding her tightly as she cried.

"Her vitals didn't seem right when we checked her. She was taken to the nearest Pokémon Centre by Professor Oak where they kept her until she appeared to be alright. A month later Professor Oak called us to say that Raimodo had passed away." George said.

Ash was about to reply when everyone heard a cracking noise, they looked at the egg which was now glowing.

"Come on everyone let's leave Ash and the egg alone." Catherine said as she pushed everyone out of the room.

Ash watched the egg intently as the cracking noise continued. After a few minutes the egg stopped glowing and it shattered, Ash looked inside the broken egg and saw a lizard that was curled up, if he had to guess Ash would say that Raimodo was just over a foot long. His skin was a mottled yellow and silver pattern apart from his underbelly which was yellow. He had a row of dull yellow spikes that ran down his spine all the way to the tip of his tail. He had a forked tongue which flicked out every once in a while and his eyes were black except for the small yellow iris'. Ash slowly got on his knees so he was on Raimodo's level and placed his hand on the table next to the egg.

"Hello little one." Ash said softly.

Raimodo's attention snapped to Ash and after staring at him for a while he gingerly stepped out of the remnants of the egg shell. Ash smiled at Raimodo and watched as the lizard approached his hand and then nuzzled it. He waited until he was sure that Raimodo was comfortable with him and rubbed the lizards head gently with his thumb. Raimodo seemed to like the contact and climbed on to Ash's hand, curling his tail around Ash's index finger. Ash pulled Raimodo to him and hugged the lizard tightly, smiling when he felt Raimodo bury his head in his shirt.

"You can come in everyone." Ash said.

The door opened and Salem, Catherine and George walked into the room. Ash didn't turn his attention away from Raimodo until they were stood next to him. They all looked at Raimodo who was looking at everyone curiously.

"He's so cute." Salem said.

"Yeah he is. Hey Salem could you get Eevee and Ralts for me? I'd like to introduce him to his sisters."

Salem nodded and walked outside to find Eevee and Ralts. Ash continued to hug Raimodo and gently stroked him which made the lizard nuzzle him. Ash then looked from Raimodo to Catherine who was looking lovingly at Raimodo.

"Would you like to hold him Catherine?" Ash asked.

The old woman wasn't surprised that Ash had asked that. He had a heart of gold that much was clear. She looked at the tiny lizard and she had to admit that she wanted to cuddle him but she wanted to make sure that Ash was fine that.

"C-can I?" Catherine stammered.

"Of course you can." Ash replied.

Ash smiled and gently passed Raimodo to Catherine who cradled the newborn in her arms. She smiled and a tear trickled down her face as Raimodo's tongue flicked against her face.

"He's perfect." she whispered.

Raimodo yawned and snuggled into Catherine's embrace, the lizard then fell to sleep and started snoring softly. Catherine felt someone place a hand on her shoulder and looked back, seeing her husband smiling at her.

"Let's do the scans to make sure he's okay. If Ash doesn't mind." George said.

"I was about to ask you to do that actually." Ash replied.

Ash watched as Catherine took the young Pokémon to the scanning machine and did the same scans they had done to the egg. While the scans were being done Salem walked in with Eevee and Ralts, the younger Pokémon immediately headed towards their new brother but were stopped by a pair of arms wrapping around them. They looked back and saw their dad.

"Wait until they're done checking Raimodo."

Eevee and Ralts nodded and watched impatiently as the scans were done. Finally the last of the scans was completed, all of them showing that Raimodo was perfectly healthy. Catherine gently lifted Raimodo and passed him back to Ash who went back to the living room and took a seat. Eevee and Ralts followed him and sat on his shoulder, they looked at their new brother and wondered how he would react to them. They watched as he studied them both carefully and then looked at their dad.

"Raimodo these are your sisters, Ralts and Eevee."

The lizard looked again at Eevee and Ralts who got off of their dad's shoulders and sat either side of Raimodo in Ash's arms. They then hugged their new brother which surprised the electric type however he quickly responded by wrapping his forearms around Ralts and his tail around Eevee. Ash smiled as he watched then siblings, he then saw Raimodo yawn again as a tired look appeared on the newborns face.

"Come on let's give Raimodo a chance to rest." Ash said.

Eevee and Ralts pouted at their dad and reluctantly released their grip on Raimodo. They climbed out of his arms which allowed their dad to place the lizard on a nearby cushion so he could rest. They quickly sat back on their dads lap but kept their gaze on Raimodo wanting nothing more than to hug him and play with him. Ash saw the way they were looking at them and placed a hand on their heads.

"You can play with him when he wakes up."

They both nodded as they understood that he needed his rest, Ash could see the disappointment on their faces and knew he had to do something to distract them. He quickly got an idea of what to do, he opened his bag and rummaged around for a few moments finally coming across what he was looking for. He pulled the item out of the bag and held it in front of them, he was happy to see their faces instantly light up as they saw the grooming brush. He shifted them around so their backs were facing him and started brushing Eevee's fur and Ralts' hair making Eevee purr and Ralts sigh in content.

Meanwhile Catherine and George were in awe of how Ash was treating his young Pokémon. It had been a long time since they'd seen someone have such a close bond with their Pokémon and it was a relief to see that trainers like Ash existed. The elderly couple turned their gaze to Salem who was looking tenderly at Raimodo as she gently ran her hand along Raimodo's back.

"You both really are a natural with Pokémon. The way you treat the young ones clearly shows that." Catherine said.

"Thanks Catherine." Ash and Salem replied.

Catherine then spotted the clock on the table next to Ash and saw that it was almost dinner time.

"I'd better go start dinner." Catherine said.

Ash, Salem and George nodded and Catherine left the room and entered the kitchen. While she started cooking Ash and Salem continued focussing on the young Pokémon. Neither of them noticed George get up and go to the living room so he could set the table. A few minutes passed until Ash and Salem heard Catherine yell from the dining room.

"Dinners ready!"

Ash and Salem were startled by the yell because they were so wrapped up in paying attention to the young Pokémon. They quickly got up and after Ash gently picked up Raimodo they left the living room followed by Ralts and Eevee. They walked into the dining room and saw that there were six plates on the table, two of which had Pokémon food on them for Eevee and Ralts and the other four had all day breakfasts on them. There was even a bottle of formula by one of the plates for Raimodo. Everyone took a seat and started devouring the delicious food.

Once the plates were cleaned and Raimodo was fed, George and Catherine brought some mugs of hot chocolate in and placed two of them in front of Ash and Salem. The young trainers greedily drank the warm drink down, sighing in content when they were finished.

"Thanks Catherine, dinner was amazing." Ash said.

Salem gave a quick nod I agreement.

"I'm glad that you both enjoyed it." Catherine replied.

"So where are you two headed? Because if you're still going through Verdanturf then there's a contest in a few days time. If you're interested they'll take any registrations." George said."

Ash and Salem exchanged a look, although they both wanted to win their next badge as soon as possible they had both wanted to compete in at least one contest to see how it differs from traditional battling.

"Well that sounds interesting, we had been intending to check out Meteor Falls and then head to Petalburg to beat Norman. But I would like to participate in a contest." Ash answered.

"So would I." Salem added.

The group then started talking about a variety of topics, none of them really keeping track of the time. They stopped chatting when they saw Raimodo yawn, this drew a yawn from everyone else and when they checked the time their eyes widened as they didn't think they'd been talking that long. They decided to call it a night so they went to their rooms and quickly fell to sleep.

Notes

Some of you are probably wondering why I didn't write the battles with Flannery against Salem and then Alex, well I didn't really want to write another battle involving the same Pokémon and I didn't really think that adding the battles would have been a good use of a chapter.

For those of you wondering the Mystery Egg will be given to Ash at a later point. Right now he has his hands full so it would be illogical to give it too him now.

Next chapter we'll have something that I'm sure a lot of you wanted me to do at some point – A contest. I intend to do the appeal round for Ash as well as battles so it will be an experimental chapter. There will also be a couple of evolutions – they were originally gonna evolve this chapter but I changed my mind.

Thanks for reading this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it.

Please give a review telling me what you liked/didn't like.

If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them.
