Sorry for the wait guys but I am very busy at the minute so I'm really not getting much time to write.
Hey guys if you want a laugh go to the reviews for chapter 8 and read the most recent one by guest. It is hilarious how stupid that person is.
I want to shout out CharmedMillie who has just started a new story called Master Challenge. I think it has the potential to be a great story and I hope that you guys will check it out.
Finally I want to thank all of you guys for the follows and favourites. It still amazes me that this has nearly hit 500 favourites as when I started out I never expected to get even 10 constant readers so I really want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. The only thing that amazes me more than the staggering amount of you reading is the rate at which this story is still gathering new readers.
Here's chapter 36 I hope you enjoy.

As Ash, Salem and May talked about his battle with Drew they saw the green haired coordinator storm straight through the room, the enraged coordinator ignored all of the comments directed at him and stomped out of the front entrance making sure to slam the door shut as he left.
"What a sore loser." Salem said.
"Believe me Salem he has done far worse after losing a contest." May said.
"Like what?" Ash asked.
"Well…." May started but was cut off by a voice through the speaker system.
"Would Salem and Solidad please come to the stage?"
Salem watched as Solidad walked out of the room and on to the stage, she stayed seated for a moment as she tried to calm her nerves. She was actually feeling more nervous now than when she went out to do the appeal round. She stood up and could feel her nerves trying to get the better of her; suddenly she was pulled into a hug that she quickly returned. She looked up and saw Ash meeting her gaze.
"I have faith in you Salem. I know you'll put on a good show." Ash murmured.
"Thanks Ash." Salem replied.
The couple broke the embrace and Salem walked with a new found confidence to the door, she turned around and gave Ash a smile and then left the room. She walked on to the stage and stood opposite Solidad who already had her Pidgeot and Slowbro waiting for her. Salem quickly sent out Plusle and Minun who both looked excited to battle against such strong looking opponents. A few moments later the buzzer rang and the battle started.
Five minutes later the buzzer sounded again and the score clearly showed that Solidad had one by a large margin however the experienced coordinator had lost a fair few points so there was no shame in Salem's loss. Ash had to admit that he was impressed by Solidad, despite both of her Pokémon having a type disadvantage she had managed to pull off a convincing win. She had displayed a very tactical mind as she had gotten a chunk of her points from dodging attacks rather trying to match them to make some sort of beautiful explosion. It was refreshing to see that since every other participant didn't do that they did just match each others attacks.
Salem walked back into the room cradling a dejected Plusle and Minun, she looked down at them and the look in their eyes broke her heart. She cuddled them both and could feel Plusle shaking in her arms, she pulled the two tiny electric types away from her chest and saw that Minun was looking down guiltily and Plusle had tears trickling down her face. Salem instantly pulled them close her again and ran her hands up and down their backs.
"Hey what's wrong?" Salem whispered.
'We let you down, we're sorry.' Plusle and Minun replied.
Salem was pretty sure she knew what they'd said.
"You think you let me down because we lost don't you." Salem said.
The electric types nodded.
"You're two shouldn't be upsetting yourself over that match, I'm proud of how well you two did against an experienced coordinator."
Plusle and Minun looked up at Salem in shock and saw her smiling at them.
"Listen as long as you give it everything you've got I will always be proud of you. Right I'm gonna recall you for now while you calm down."
Plusle and Minun nodded and after giving their trainer one more hug they allowed themselves to be returned.
Salem placed the electric type's Pokéballs on her belt and walked over to Ash and May who had watched the whole exchange.
"Hey are they alright?" May asked.
"Yeah they're just a bit upset and feel like they let me down." Salem replied.
"Combusken felt like that when we lost our first contest." May said.
"A lot of Pokémon feel like that when they lose their first battle. Anyway that was a great performance Salem, you really made Solidad work for it." Ash said.
"Thanks Ash."
Suddenly the announcer's voice boomed through the room. "Could May and Harley please come to the stage."
May quickly got up and made her way out of the room, she walked on to the stage and waited for Harley who was close behind her and he stood opposite her. Moments later Harley sent out his Cacturne and Wigglytuff while May sent out Combusken and Beautifly. They both waited for the buzzer to commence the round and the second they heard the rather annoying noise they launched their first attacks.
The match ended a few minutes later and May walked into the waiting room with a triumphant look on her face, she had managed to beat the same combo that had knocked her out of the last contest she'd been in. The victory over Harley had felt amazing as like Drew he had acted very cockily before the contest so watching him walk off of the stage with a dejected look on his face was satisfying to say the least. She sat down with Ash and Salem and watched the television so she could try and see any weaknesses in her potential opponents' strategies.
As the final battle of the first round finished everyone was forced to wait for the match ups for the next round to be randomly decided. A few minutes later the matches for the next round had been decided. Ash, May, Salem and their Pokémon looked at the large screen and they saw that May had been matched up against another one of the new up and coming coordinators and Ash had been paired against Solidad.
Ash immediately felt excited to battle an experienced coordinator, Glaceon and Kirlia on the other hand felt an overwhelming sense of depression and resignation as they knew that their journey in this contest was about to end. Ash looked down at his daughters and saw that their heads were down, Kirlia shoulders were slumped and Glaceon's ears had drooped. He instantly knew what they were thinking so he crouched down and hugged them both tightly.
"Yeah I know what you're thinking. You're thinking great now it's our turn to get eliminated but let me tell you that we're gonna give her a damn good match." Ash said.
A rush of determination flowed through Glaceon and Kirlia thanks to their dads words; they would do their best to make this match as tough as possible for Solidad. They looked up at their dad and nuzzled him; they were so grateful that he always showed such faith in them. At the same time Ash was incredibly proud of the determined look he'd seen in their eyes.
The second round began and May was first up, she took the fight to her opponent who was stunned that May had started to battle so aggressively. This allowed May to take control of the match from the very beginning and her opponent just couldn't find a way to claw the points back. The coordinators shook hands when the battle finish in a showing of respect, the defeated coordinator wished May luck and then left the arena. May walked back into waiting area with a triumphant look on her face, she traded places with Ash who was next up. He walked on to the stage and was met by Solidad who was staring at him with a completed focused look.
'She's trying to throw me off.' Ash thought.
Ash smiled cockily at Solidad which made the experienced coordinator go momentarily wide eyed as she realised that her usually full proof psychological attack had failed to affect him. Ash smirked as he saw that he'd actually managed to throw her off. He made sure to meet her gaze which she had tried to intensify but he wasn't gonna be intimidated. The stare off continued until the buzzer to start the round rang and then the real battle began.
After a tough match Ash walked off the stage with a smile on his face, he had fared about as well as Salem had and he was proud of that. He had lost to an experienced coordinator and this had been Glaceon and Kirlia's first proper foray into competitive battling and it wasn't even the type of battling they were used to so there was no shame in losing the match. Glaceon and Kirlia on the other hand had been devastated at the loss and had been on the verge of tears when Ash had knelt down and hugged them as he praised them on their performance. His reassurance had made them both feel better and they all had smiles on their faces and a sense of pride rushing through them.
The semi final matchups were quickly put up and Solidad was the first up, she went out and once again won with ease, Ash and Salem could see why Solidad was such a highly respected coordinator as she was putting on an incredible display. May quickly took Solidad's place on the stage, May surprisingly had a much easier time in the semi-finals than she had in the previous rounds as she beat her opponent convincingly; the victory had earned her a match against Solidad in the final. To say that May was nervous would be an understatement, Solidad had been one of the biggest influences on her decision to become a coordinator and she didn't want to disappoint her idol.
The battle between Solidad and May was far closer than anyone had expected, Solidad had still been feeling confident after the way she had easily brushed aside her previous opponents. This meant that May took an early lead which was the wake up call Solidad needed and she managed to turn it around and as the buzzer announced the end of the match the screen showed that May had lost by the smallest of margins. The coordinators met in the middle of the stage and Solidad shook May's hand.
"That was a good performance May. You have the potential to be a great coordinator."
"T-thank you S-Solidad." May stuttered.
"I expect to see you at the Grand Festival so you'd better collect three more ribbons."
"How did you know how many ribbons I have?"
"I always keep an eye on coordinators who I think could be destined for greatness."
May was stunned to silence; Solidad gave the young coordinator a smile and then walked over to the judges to collect her prize. May applauded like the rest of the crowd as Solidad raised her newly won ribbon and held it in the air. May then walked off the stage with a massive grin on her face; she entered the waiting room and saw that it was empty apart from Ash, Salem and their Pokémon. They all quickly walked over to May.
"That was a great battle May, you really made Solidad work hard for that victory." Ash said.
"Yeah she was really sweating for a few minutes." Salem added.
"Thanks guys. So now that the contest is over what will you do?" May asked.
Ash took his Pokénav off of his belt and checked the time.
"Well if we leave now we could get to the other side of Rusturf Cave by tonight. What are you gonna do?" Ash replied.
"I think I'll get my Pokémon healed and then head towards Mauville." May answered.
"If you get to the Daycare Centre they'll probably let you stay there for the night." Salem said.
"Really?" May asked.
"Yeah we both stayed there a couple of times. They're really nice people who have some interesting stories to tell." Ash said.
"Ok well if I'm nearby the Daycare Centre I'll visit them." May replied.
The trio then left the Contest Hall and walked to the Pokémon Centre, they entered the building just in time to see Drew collect his Pokéballs from Nurse Joy. Drew turned around and scowled at Ash; he then stormed towards the exit and barged into Ash who was knocked back a pace. Ash saw that May was about to go after Drew who had quickly made his escape and placed his hand on her shoulder.
Don't bother May, he's not worth it." Ash said.
May looked out of the doors at the form of Drew which was getting gradually smaller as he walked away and nodded.
"You're right Ash."
They walked up to the main desk, May passed Combusken and Beautifly's Pokéballs to Nurse Joy and Salem gave Plusle and Minun's Pokéballs to the healer as well. Glaceon and Kirlia reluctantly followed Nurse Joy after their dad insisted that they needed to be healed after the battles they'd participated in.
A few minutes later Nurse Joy came back out followed by Glaceon and Kirlia, the young Pokémon quickly made their way over to their dad while Nurse Joy handed the Pokéballs containing Combusken, Beautifly, Plusle and Minun back to Salem and May. Ash gave his daughters a quick hug and then the trio of trainers left the Pokémon Centre and after a quick hug May said her farewells to Ash and Salem who waved at May until the coordinator faded from view.
Ash and Salem then headed towards Rusturf Tunnel; Ash stopped at the entrance to the tunnel and took a Pokéballs off his belt. He then sent the Pokémon inside of it out and it landed on the ground in front of Ash. The small lizard looked up at Ash who picked the electric type up and cradled him in his arms. The lizard flicked his tongue against Ash's cheek and nuzzled him.
"Hey Raimodo, sorry I had to keep you in your Pokéballs so long but it was pretty crowded in the Contest Hall and I thought that you wouldn't want the attention from everyone." Ash said.
Raimodo replied with a nod he then went back to nuzzling his dad. Ash hugged Raimodo tightly and then led the group into Rusturf Tunnel. As they walked through the tunnel they saw several Whismur and a few Loudred walking around peacefully, some of them were sat near a machine that appeared to be widening the cave. Ash was at first amazed that the machine was making barely any noise however when he saw the Devon Corp logo on the side he knew that it had to be one of the machines Mr. Stone had told him about.
Ash and Salem walked out of Rusturf Tunnel just as the sun was sinking below the horizon, the young trainers knew that they needed to find somewhere to make camp so they left the main path and went into the forest hoping to find an area they can stay in for the night. They eventually found a small space in the forest which was just big enough for them to set up their sleeping bags and let their Pokémon out so they could sleep outside of their Pokéballs.
By the time the tents were pitched and everyone had eaten a late dinner it was getting late. Ash and Salem crawled into their sleeping bags, the former was joined by Glaceon, Kirlia and Raimodo who all snuggled up to their dad and quickly fell to sleep. At the same time Salem had pulled Plusle and Minun in with her and held them tightly hoping that it would show that she wasn't mad or disappointed in them. The small electric types relaxed in their trainers embrace and joined their fellow Pokémon in slumber. Ash and Salem looked down at the sleeping Pokémon who were lightly snoring and smile at how adorable they looked. They gave their Pokémon one more hug before closing their eyes and falling to sleep.
The next morning they had eaten a quick breakfast and recalled their Pokémon. Ash and Salem then quickly packed up their sleeping bags and headed back to the path that led to Rustboro. As the duo followed the path they spotted a few areas that would be good for training however Ash was quick to say that he knew of several far better training spots between Rustboro and Petalburg. He was also toying with the idea of battling in the Rotarka Town tournament again if it was on so he could test out Aerodactyl and Amaura. Salem saw the logic in Ash's idea and knew that he was keen to get his fossils revived so she agreed with him.
The trip to Rustboro was longer than Ash had anticipated and as night fell he realised that there was no chance they'd get to Rustboro before dark so they were forced to find another place to set up camp for another night. He cursed himself for not stopping a couple of hours earlier in one of the clearings they'd found as they had been much more secluded areas but the area they found would have to so. They set up camp and quickly fell to sleep.
The following day Ash and Salem quickened the pace so they arrived in Rustboro by lunchtime, they strolled through the bustling city and headed towards Devon Corp. Ash was curious to see whether the damage done to Devon had been repaired by now. The building had taken some damage, mainly in the bottom three floors as Team Firestorm had broken windows, tables, machinery and anything else in the way of getting what they wanted.
The Devon Corp building game into sight and Ash was pleasantly surprised to see that the building even better than it had done before the attack. He immediately noticed the increased security that was standing outside the main building. The guards looked a lot more alert than before and their equipment appeared to be far superior to what they had before the attack. He wasn't surprised at the increased level of security but he was sure that Officer Jenny had probably been very insistent on making the security this tight.
Ash's focus was taken from the Devon Corp building when something or rather someone charged into him and wrapped their arms around him. Ash looked down and spotted a girl who had a massive smile on her face and was looking up at him with a familiar pair of ice blue eyes. Ash passed Raimodo to Salem and returned the embrace.
"Hi Vanya." Ash said softly.
"Hi Ash, how are you?" Vanya replied happily.
Vanya broke the hug and continued to smile brightly at Ash.
"I'm fine thanks, how are you and your brother?"
"We're doing great. We both beat Norman a couple of weeks ago."
"I'm glad to hear that you're both doing well. Where is Thalion by the way?"
"I'm right here."
Ash turned his gaze to the left and saw Thalion grinning at him, the older Robo sibling walked up to Ash and the trainers shook hands.
"Hey Thalion." Ash said.
"Hi Ash, it's good to see you again. Who's your friend?" Thalion replied as he looked at the girl stood behind Ash.
"This is my girlfriend Salem. I met her a couple of weeks after I met you two." Ash answered.
Salem stepped forward and shook Vanya and Thalion's hands.
"It's nice to meet you both." Salem said.
"So do you guys wanna head to the Pokémon Centre so we can have a chat? I'm sure you've got a few stories to tell about what you've done since we last met." Thalion said.
"That sounds good to me." Salem replied.
"You guys go ahead without me; I'll catch up when I'm finished in Devon Corp." Ash said.
"We can wait here until you're done." Thalion said.
"Thanks but I don't know how long I'll be so you'd be better off just making yourself comfortable in the Pokémon Centre."
"We could come with you." Vanya suggested.
"Sorry Vanya but you can't." Ash replied.
"Why not?" Vanya asked.
"I have to go have a talk with Mr. Stone about some very secret things." Ash whispered.
"But I can keep a secret." Vanya whined.
Ash chuckled and ruffled her hair which made the younger girl give him a mock glare as she tried to put her hair back into place.
"I'm sure you can but it's not my call. I'm sorry Vanya but this is really important stuff that nobody can know about."
Vanya pouted and crossed her arms.
"Fine we'll go to the Pokémon Centre." Vanya muttered.
Vanya stomped away unhappily, Thalion and Salem quickly chased after her and they made their way towards the Pokémon Centre. Ash watched them walk away until they were out of sight and then he walked into Devon Corp flanked by Rai and Meowth.
Ash was amazed at how quickly they had repaired the interior of Devon, he could still remember all of the doors that had been blown off of the hinges, the holes in the walls and all the other damage Team Firestorm had caused. As Ash walked through the halls of Devon Corp a lot of the employees who had been in the building on the day Team Firestorm attacked spotted Ash and all gave him a respectful nod. They'd heard from Mr. Stone how much Ash hated a lot of praise so they thought that a simple nod would get the message across without embarrassing him. Ash returned their nods and was extremely grateful that they hadn't made him the centre of attention.
Ash passed the final room on the ground floor and got to the staircase leading to Mr. Stone's office, a security guard was stood in the way however he immediately remembered Ash and stepped aside allowing the young trainer to start the seemingly endless climb up the staircase.
"Great lets get climbing."
Suddenly Kirlia climbed on to Ash's right shoulder and Glaceon drape herself across his left shoulder so that her front legs were dangle in front of his chest and her rear legs were on his back. He smiled at his daughters who nuzzled him and then he started climbing up the stairs. He was closely followed by Meowth and Rai who were grumbling all the way at Glaceon and Kirlia since they had gotten a ride while they had to walk. Glaceon and Kirlia heard Rai and Meowth complaining and playfully stuck their tongues out at them which only made the cat and mouse grumble more.
After what felt like an eternity they finally reached the final step and were in the top floor, Ash, Rai and Meowth were all slightly out of breath and took a moment to refill their lungs.
"Dat was much easier last time." Meowth said as he took a deep breath.
"That's because you were stood on my shoulder." Ash replied.
They took a few more moments to compose themselves and then walked along the corridor, stopping at the door to Mr. Stone's office. Ash knocked on the door a couple of times and waited for a response which came almost instantly.
"Come in." a voice boomed.
Ash twisted the doorknob and opened the door; he walked into the room and saw that Mr. Stone was looking intently at his computer screen. He took a few steps closer and stopped when Mr. Stone looked up at him and smiled.
"Hi Mr Stone." Ash said.
"Hello Ash, please take a seat." Mr Stone said.
Ash did as asked and sat on the vacant chair."
"It's good to see you again Ash, I'd like to thank you again for delivering the schematics to Captain Stern and the electronics to Wattson."
"It's no problem Mr Stone."
"So I guess you're here to get those two fossils revived." Mr Stone said.
"Yeah I really wanna meet Amaura and Aerodactyl." Ash said excitedly.
Mr. Stone chuckled at the excitement in Ash's voice and the look in his eyes; it reminded him a lot of Steven when he was Ash's age.
"That doesn't surprise me at all. Come on follow me and we'll head to the fossil lab."
Ash internally groaned at the prospect of walking down all of those stairs again however he wasn't about to voice those complaints so he got up and followed Mr. Stone out of his office. Ash was confused when the chairman of Devon Corp stopped at the end of the corridor and faced the wall. Before he could ask what was going on Mr. Stone pressed a section of the wall which made a large section of the wall split and revealed an elevator.
"Does everyone use hidden switches nowadays?" Ash thought.
Mr. Stone walked into the now revealed elevator and waited for Ash, Rai and Meowth who still seemed shocked by what he'd done. Mr. Stone cleared his throat which snapped the trio out of their shock and they stood next to Mr. Stone who pressed the down button. The elevator started its descent far quicker than Ash, Rai and Meowth had anticipated which made them stumble and had it not been for the handrails they would have fallen flat on their faces.
"Sorry I should have warned you that this elevator isn't exactly slow." Mr. Stone said.
"It's fine Mr. Stone. Hey if you don't mind me asking why have you got a hidden elevator that can only be accessed by pressing a secret button?" Ash asked.
"This elevator leads to the secret research lab which many people can't have access to so it wouldn't make sense to put it out in the open where people would be tempted to ask questions."
Ash nodded as he saw the logic in what Mr. Stone was saying; putting the elevator somewhere that was easily accessible would possibly compromise the secret lab. The elevator came to a stop a few seconds later; the doors opened revealing the lab that Ash had seen on his previous visit.
Mr. Stone led Ash through the lab until they came to a room Ash hadn't been in before. They walked into the room and Ash immediately saw a machine that resembled the one that had been in Greg's lab. He looked around the room and spotted a Sail fossil and an Old Amber sat on a desk.
"Are those my fossils?" Ash asked.
"Yes they are, when you're ready we'll revive them." Mr. Stone replied.
"Alright I'm ready. Let's get them revived." Ash said exuberantly.
Mr. Stone chuckled and then nodded at one of the scientists who picked up the fossils and placed them into a couple of the chambers attached to the machine. The chambers were very large but considering the size of some of the Pokémon that were revived from fossils it was hardly surprising. The scientist then pressed a series of buttons on the machine and a beam shot down from the prongs above the chambers. The fossils glowed and gradually started to be reanimated, while the fossils where being revived one of the scientists walked over to Ash with a clipboard.
"We did some scans on the fossils and found that Amaura was about a year old when she was fossilised and Aerodactyl was about three years old when he was fossilised." The scientist informed.
"Thank you for the information." Ash replied.
The scientist nodded and placed the clipboard on the table; he then stood with a few of his colleagues and started taking notes of the fossils that were being revived. A few minutes later Ash was starting to get restless, he was itching to meet his new Pokémon and this was gradually eroding all of the patience he had. Suddenly the fossils glowed brilliant white and blinded everyone in the room, when the light died down it revealed a calm looking Amaura and an agitated Aerodactyl both of whom were looking around with a bemused expression on their faces.
The scientists opened the chambers which allowed both of the fossil Pokémon to get out and stretch their limbs. Ash gave them a few moments and then stepped forward so both of them could see him. He waited for them to stop stretching and looking around the room, after a few more minutes they finally they settled down and focused on Ash.
"Hi, my name is Ash. I know you're both probably very confused right now so if you want I'll explain what's going on."
Both of the prehistoric Pokémon thought for a moment and then nodded.
"Okay so thousands of years ago something happened which caused you both to be fossilised. When you became fossils it preserved your bodies over the years and we just used this machine to bring you back to life. I know this is probably a lot to take in right now but it is the truth."
Amaura and Aerodactyl were in shock, they wanted to deny it and believe that Ash was lying but they could tell by the look in his eyes that he was telling the truth. Several questions started to run through their minds where would they go now? What was this future world like?
Ash saw the lost look in their eyes and knew that they were now worrying about this new unknown world that they were now in. He cleared his throat which gained the attention of the prehistoric Pokémon
"Listen you two when I found you I was hoping that you'd both become a part of my family. If you do want to join us then I promise that together we will get stronger. If you don't want to join me then I'm sure we can find somewhere that you can live."
The revived Pokémon started to think about what Ash had said and they appeared to be deep in thought as they considered their options, it didn't take long for Amaura to gingerly walk up to Ash and she nuzzled his leg. Ash crouched down and passed Raimodo to Rai, he then pulled the small ice type into a hug which Amaura enjoyed.
"So I'm guessing that you wanna come with me." Ash said.
Amaura responded by nodding and then going back to nuzzling him. Ash smiled at Amaura and then turned his gaze to Aerodactyl who was staring at them.
"I can tell that you're strong Aerodactyl and I know that you have the potential. If you come with me I'll do everything I can to make you the powerful Aerodactyl ever."
Aerodactyl was dubious about what the human could teach him that he didn't already know. He was also reluctant to relinquish his freedom to Ash, he thought long and hard about what to do when he finally thought of a solution. The ancient Pokémon roared a few times which scared some of the scientists however Ash wasn't going to be intimidated. Ash looked at Rai hoping for a translation of what Aerodactyl had said.
'He wants to battle you. If you win he'll join you.' Rai informed.
"You know what Aerodactyl I was hoping you'd say that. I've got the perfect Pokémon to battle you as long as Mr. Stone will let me use the transfer system." Ash said.
"Of course you can use it Ash."
Ash thanked Mr. Stone and called Professor Oak, he quickly got the Professor to transfer the Pokémon he wanted and hung up the phone. Mr. Stone then led them to a large, open room that they could battle in. Aerodactyl hovered in front of Ash, waiting for him to reveal the Pokémon he will battle. Ash smirked at Aerodactyl and threw the Pokéballs in his hand, Aerodactyl mimicked Ash's smirk as he saw the Pokémon that he'd be fighting.
Notes
Thanks for reading this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it.
Next chapter we'll have the battle between Aerodactyl and the Pokémon that Ash's chose. We'll be heading to Meteor Falls and depending upon how long the chapter is I might put the plot twist that I've been planning since the start of the story at the end of the chapter. If not it will be in chapter 38.
