Thanks for the reviews guys I really appreciate you taking the time to write one.
The story has just reached 500 favorites and I am ecstatic that so many of you have enjoyed the story so far. It has been about a year since I started work on this fic and I am astounded that so many people have enjoyed this. I guess the next landmark is 600 favorites but I don't honestly see that happening anytime soon. If I do hit 600 I want ideas for what I can do as a thank you so either PM your ideas or put them into a review and if I like the idea I'll use it. Once again I want to thank you all for your support and I hope you continue to enjoy the story.
I'd like to apologise for another late chapter. I truly am sorry guys but I've had a lot of work recently, I also have to make time for the voluntary work I do as well as making time for my friends and family so please try to understand that I don't have much spare time.
I am a man of my word so I promise that I will add the Manaphy movie into this – some of the characters will obviously be different and there will be some changes to the plot. That probably won't be uploaded until after the battle with Norman though so you're gonna be waiting a little while before you see it.
There are 2 references to abridged series in this chapter, if you find them send me a PM saying the series and the episode you think it's from and if you get them right I'll give you a shout out next chapter or if you want something else I'll do that instead.
Here's chapter 37 I hope you enjoy it

Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon.
Charizard landed on the ground with a loud thud that made the ground shake and he roared in approval as he saw the Aerodactyl that was hovering in front of him, he shot a Flamethrower in the air and was pleased to see that Aerodactyl didn't flinch at his display of power.
'This is gonna be fun.' Charizard thought.
'Come on you overgrown lizard let's do this.' Aerodactyl taunted.
Charizard smirked at the ancient Pokémon and with a powerful flap of his wings he took flight. Both flying types circled around the room waiting for the other to make the first move. After a minute of watching the flying types stare each other down Ash had had enough.
"Start things off with Flamethrower."
Charizard opened his mouth and shot a powerful burst of flames at Aerodactyl, the prehistoric Pokémon could feel the intense heat radiating from the attack so he immediately dived under the Flamethrower that narrowly flew over his head and scorched the wall behind him. Ash was impressed at how quickly Aerodactyl had reacted and was sure that with a little bit of training from Pidgeot he would be able to out maneuver a lot of other flying types.
"Nice dodge Aerodactyl. I'm impressed."
The ancient Pokémon seemed to ignore Ash's praise and he formed a silver ball in his mouth, he then shot the ball at Charizard far quicker than the dragon expected and he was slammed straight through one of the glass windows.
"Charizard! Are you okay?" Ash yelled frantically.
A loud roar forced everyone to cover their ears as Charizard flew back into the room through the shattered window. The dragon landed in front of Ash and shot a Flamethrower into the air again. He then looked back at his trainer and gave him a thumbs up. Ash let out a sigh of relief that Charizard was okay, he watched as Charizard flew back into the air and smirked at Aerodactyl.
"That's it Charizard no more messing about, use Dragon Rage then Brick Break." Ash said.
The flame on Charizard's tail became far more intense and much larger, the dragon then opened his mouth and fired a blue and black blast of energy at Aerodactyl. The rock type quickly dodged the attack and smirked as he had now dodged two of the dragon's attacks. The smirk was wiped off his face when Charizard slammed his glowing fist down on Aerodactyl's skull. Aerodactyl was stunned by the strike and he plummeted to the ground as his vision blurred. He hadn't expected the dragon to hit that hard, Aerodactyl looked down and could see the ground getting closer. The prehistoric Pokémon used all of his inner strength to gather himself and he flew back into the air moments before he would have crashed into the ground.
The ancient Pokémon shot straight at Charizard, as he got close his sharp teeth turned black. He flew as fast as he could at a surprised Charizard who hadn't expected him to recover so quickly and snapped his jaws shut on Charizard's right wing which made the dragon roar in pain as he felt Aerodactyl's sharp teeth puncture his wing.
Ash looked on feeling completely helpless as he saw blood start to trickle out of the puncture wounds in Charizard's wing. He suddenly had an idea as he watched Charizard flail in attempt to remove Aerodactyl who adamantly refused to release his grip.
"Use Thunder Punch and then send him crashing to the ground with Iron Tail."
Charizard stopped flailing and focused on channeling some electricity into his fist, a few moments later he could feel electricity rush through his fist. He then slammed his fist into Aerodactyl's gut causing electricity to course through the rock type's veins. The pain was so intense that he roared in pain which meant that he released his grip on Charizard's wing. The dragon type took a moment to check his wing for damage and then swung his tail that had taken a metallic sheen down at Aerodactyl. Charizard's tail crashed down on Aerodactyl's back which was sent the rock type rocketing to ground.
This time Aerodactyl was unable to gather himself and he crashed to the ground, landing in a heap. Ash saw this as his chance and threw a spare Pokéball at the prehistoric Pokémon. Aerodactyl was sucked into the capsule in a flash if red, the ball shook a couple of times and then exploded open as Aerodactyl found the strength to break free. Ash was impressed that Aerodactyl had managed to break free, he was about to throw another Pokéball when he saw an orange orb forming in Aerodactyl's mouth. Ash's eyes widened as he saw a powerful orange beam shoot from the orb straight at Charizard.
"Dodge the Hyper Beam and hit him with Flare Blitz then grab him and use Seismic Toss."
The dragon became engulfed in flames and he strafe to the right which meant the he dodged the Hyper Beam, Ash face palmed as he watched the powerful beam of energy blast through the ceiling. Charizard ignored the damage that dodging the attack had caused and he charged at Aerodactyl who was absolutely exhausted. Aerodactyl could nothing except watch as Charizard slammed into him, the dragon then drove the ancient Pokémon through the roof which created another large whole in the ceiling.
"Oh fuck me." Ash muttered.
Moments later Aerodactyl was thrown back to the ground by Charizard, luckily Aerodactyl fell through one of the holes that had already been made and he crashed to the ground. Ash threw his Pokéball at Aerodactyl, it shook a couple of times and then pinged signaling that Aerodactyl had been caught. Ash walked over to the small crater that his Pokéball was lying in and picked it up. He placed the Pokéball on his belt and then looked around at the destroyed room. Charizard landed moments later and was feeling proud of his victory.
"Nice job Charizard. Take a well-earned rest." Ash said.
In a flash of red Charizard was returned to his Pokéball that was quickly put back into its place on Ash's belt. Ash then walked over to Amaura and knelt down, he then presented a Pokéball to her and the ice type quickly tapped the Pokéball with her head and was instantly captured. Ash smiled at the Pokéball and placed it on his belt, he then approached Mr. Stone guiltily.
"Sorry Mr. Stone, whenever I come here I seem to end up destroying things." Ash said.
"Don't worry Ash, this won't take long to repair at all. Besides it was my fault for suggesting that you battle indoors. So I don't want you to feel guilty or think that you need to do something to make amends." Mr. Stone replied.
"Thanks Mr. Stone, you're a very generous man." Ash said.
"Don't mention it Ash, now if you'll come with me I'll show you what we've been doing since you were last here."
Ash nodded and followed Mr. Stone out of the room, leaving the ruined room and heading back towards the secret lab area. He spotted the room that had been developing the translators and wondered if they had managed to make any improvements.
"Hey Mr. Stone how's the translator technology developing?"
"Well we've had a bit of a breakthrough. We found that trying to make the device translate over seven hundred kinds of Pokéspeech was too much strain on the electronics so instead of making the translator be able to understand all forms of Pokéspeech we're linking the translator to a trainers Pokéballs,. That way he or she can understand their own Pokémon, sadly you won't be able to understand other Pokémon. It's still in the experiment stage though as they have been malfunctioning and burning out the microchips in the translators."
"So how long until you think they'll be ready for use?"
"It took us ten years to make the technology that works in the translator you possess however we are hopeful that a prototype will be ready soon. If we have one ready I'd been proud if you'd test it."
"I'd be happy to help."
Mr. Stone gave Ash a tour around the facility, Ash was amazed at the various things that Devon Corp were developing. After an hour or so Mr. Stone and Ash walked out of the last research room.
"Thanks for the tour Mr. Stone but I really need to get back to my friends. They're waiting for me at the Pokémon Centre."
"Okay Ash, it's been good to see you again and I want you to know that you're always welcome here."
"Thanks Mr. Stone I appreciate that."
Mr. Stone and Ash shook hands, the director then led Ash back to the elevator they had used to travel down here. The elevator quickly took them back up to the top floor where the duo shook hands again. Mr. Stone bid Ash farewell and went into his office, Ash then realized that he had to walk all the way down the stairs again. He was about to take the first step down when he looked at the handrail which went all the way from the top to the bottom. A mischievous smile appeared on his face and he sat on the rail, he gripped on to the rail as Glaceon and Kirlia got on to his shoulders and Rai and Meowth sat behind him.
"You guys ready?"
Everyone cheered in response.
"All right let's go."
Ash let go of the rail and wrapped his arms around Raimodo, they all then shot down the rail gradually getting faster and faster. The end of the rail soon came into sight and Ash suddenly realized that this may not have been his greatest idea. The group flew off the end of the hand rail and landed in a heap on the ground, the group burst out laughing at what they'd just done. Their laughter died down after a couple of minutes and after Ash checked that everyone was okay he apologized to the employees that he'd disturbed and made his way out of Devon Corp.
Ash walked down the streets of Rustboro maneuvering his way through the crowd, the Pokémon Centre came into view a few minutes later and he saw Thalion, Vanya and Salem stood outside. Vanya was the first to spot Ash and she ran over to him, giving him a big hug that Ash returned. Vanya released her grip on Ash and the pair walked over to Thalion and Salem.
"Hey guys what are you doing out here." Ash asked.
"We've been waiting for you. How did the revivals go?" Salem replied.
"Amaura was happy to join, she's a little sweetie. Aerodactyl on the other hand was a bit more difficult, I had to battle him to catch him."
A strong wind blew which caused everyone to shudder as the wind cut through them.
"Can we go inside now? It bloody freezing." Vanya said.
Everyone nodded and followed Vanya into the Pokémon Centre, they all sighed in content as the heat immediately warmed them up. They walked up to the desk where Nurse Joy was stood with a smile on her face.
"Hello Ash how can I help you and your friends?" Nurse Joy asked.
"Can you check our Pokémon please?" Ash asked.
"Of course, I'm happy to help." Nurse Joy replied.
Ash, Salem, Vanya and Thalion handed their Pokéballs to Nurse Joy and she walked into one of the back room followed closely by Rai, Chu, Meowth, Glaceon, Kirlia and Raimodo who was riding on Glaceon's back. The four trainers took a seat while they waited for their Pokémon to be healed, Vanya quickly spotted a leaflet lying on the table and picked it up.
"Hey look at this it's a leaflet about Meteor Falls." Vanya said.
The quartet handed the leaflet around which was advertising the recently discovered hidden chambers within Meteor Falls.
"Well it looks like fun, we've gotta go and take a look." Ash said.
"Yeah sounds good. How long will it take to get to Meteor Falls?" Salem asked.
Ash pulled out his Pokénav and brought up the map feature.
"I'd say a couple of days on foot." Ash replied.
Nurse Joy then came back out and gave back everyone's Pokéballs which were placed back on to their belts. The Pokémon who choose not reside in their Pokéballs then walked out and stood by their trainers, the only exception being Raimodo who back in Ash's arms.
"I couldn't help but overhear you all and I thought you should know that tomorrow there is a bus that will take you to Meteor Falls. It leaves at nine o'clock and you'll get there at about three o'clock." Nurse Joy informed.
"Thanks Nurse Joy, do you have some rooms for to stay in tonight?" Ash asked.
"I've got plenty free." Nurse Joy replied.
Nurse Joy handed a room key to each of the trainers who gratefully took them. They went upstairs to find their rooms and place their bags inside, once they dropped off their bags they locked their rooms and met up downstairs. They went to the cafeteria and ate some dinner while they chatted about their adventure up to this point. As it got late the trainers and their Pokémon were yawning and their eyes had started to droop. They made their way upstairs, bid each other good night and went into their rooms. They crawled into their beds and quickly fell to sleep.
The next morning the group had a quick breakfast and made their way to the area that the bus to Meteor Falls was waiting. They were the first to arrive and saw that it was in fact a double decker bus, Ash and Vanya sprinted on to the bus and bounded up the stairs. They both sat at the very front of the top level and were joined by Salem and Thalion a few moments later who sat in the remaining front seats. The Pokémon were right behind them, Glaceon and Kirlia laid on Ash's shoulders, Raimodo was resting in his lap and Rai, Chu and Meowth sat on the floor around them.
Half an hour later the last passenger got on to the bus and the long journey to Meteor Falls began. The journey at first had been entertaining as they had watched the beautiful scenery, the ocean was sparkling in the bright sun, the trees were swaying thanks to the gentle breeze and the Pokémon were all out foraging for food. However after a few hours the ride starting to get boring and they were all grateful when they passed be a sign for Meteor Falls.
A few minutes later the bus finally came to a stop, the passengers filed off and were greeted by a man and a woman who were presumably the of tour guides
"Hello everyone I am Jacob and this is Rachel, we're your tour guides for today. We like to welcome to Meteor Falls, the tour will take a couple of hours and will consist of showing you through the newly excavated caves." Jacob said
"We shall also be showing you families of Bagon, Shelgon, Salamence, Lunatone and Solrock. We will ask you not to capture any of the Pokémon you see, they were patient and showed no aggression towards us as we excavated the area so the least we can do is leave them in their natural environment." Rachel added.
Everyone agreed to that although Ash and Thalion were disappointed that they couldn't capture a Bagon, Solrock or Lunatone as they would have been good additions to the team. The tour guide then walked into the cave and was followed by all the other tourists, Ash, Vanya, Salem and Thalion stayed near the back as they didn't want to get squashed in the crowd. As they walked through the caves Ash could have sworn the he saw a couple of familiar ice blue cloaks, at first Ash shrugged it off however after the third time he broke off from the group and checked down the tunnel. When he saw the blood red letter f on the cloaks he knew that they were members of Team Firestorm.
Ash heard footsteps behind him and he immediately turned around, he let out a relieved sigh as he saw Vanya, Salem, Thalion and their Pokémon.
"What are you doing Ash?" Vanya asked.
"I saw a few members of Team Firestorm walk through this tunnel and I wanna make sure they don't harm the people or Pokémon in Meteor Falls." Ash replied.
"Well you're not going alone." Vanya said.
"Yeah we're coming with you." Thalion and Salem said.
Ash smiled at them gratefully and then returned Raimodo so that the young electric type wouldn't get hurt. The group then quietly followed the pair of grunts through the caves, the grunts came to a stop all of a sudden which forced Ash, Rai, Chu, Meowth, Kirlia, Glaceon, Vanya, Salem and Thalion to duck for cover behind the nearby rocks. They peeked out from their makeshift cover and saw the grunts quickly glance around the cave to see if they'd been followed. The grunts seemed to be satisfied that no one was watching so they stepped on the ground in front of a flat section of cave wall that revealed a door.
'Seriously does everyone use hidden doors now?' Ash thought
A small robotic eye then shot out of the door and looked at the grunts, Ash could hear one of them mumble something but he couldn't quite make out what he said. The eye shot back into the door which opened. The grunts walked through the open door which then slammed shut and the cave wall once again hid it from view.
A few minutes passed until Ash and the others decided that it was safe to come out, they walked over to the wall that the door was hiding behind and they stepped on the floor exactly where the Team Firestorm grunts had. The door was once again revealed and the eye shot out and looked at all of them.
"Please say the password." A robotic voice said.
Everyone looked at each other as they had no clue what the password could be. Ash was now wishing that he'd have chosen one of the hiding places closer to the door, maybe then he'd have been able to hear what the grunts had been saying. After a short discussion Thalion was the first to step up and see if he could guess the right password.
"Erm… Team Firestorm." Thalion guessed.
"Incorrect password, does not compute." the voice said.
Ash could see that they weren't going to get anywhere if they just kept randomly guessing so he took a Pokéball off his belt and threw it, the Pokémon inside the capsule burst out in a ball of flames. Charizard shot a Flamethrower into the air and then looked around the cave, his sight finally resting on Thalion, Vanya and Salem who were all still trying to guess the password. Ash stepped forward, gently moving Vanya, Salem and Thalion aside and he looked at the tiny robotic eye.
"Open." Ash demanded.
"Password. Does. Not. Compute. Does. Not. Compute." the voice replied almost angrily.
"Compute this you bitch. Charizard use Flamethrower." Ash said.
The dragon smirked and then shot a burst of flames at the door, the door was quickly melted by the intense flames leaving the entrance open. Ash and Charizard smirked at the melted remnants of the door and shared a fist bump. Everyone else was looking at the pair with wide eyes and dropped jaws, none of could believe what they had just witnessed. Ash and Charizard turned to the others and continued to smirk. Suddenly the robotic eye that somehow managed to survive the flames bounced along the ground, finally coming to a stop at Ash's feet.
"Your thirty day trial has expired, would you like to purchase WinRAR?" the robotic voice slurred.
Ash raised his foot and stamped on the eye, a satisfying crunch was heard as the eye shattered. Ash then thanked Charizard for his help and returned the dragon, he looked at everyone else and saw that they all still had completely shocked looks on their faces. Ash chuckled and then walked inside, everyone else quickly snapped out of their shock and followed Ash into the hidden base.
As they passed through the first room everyone looked around and surprised to see that there were boxes scattered all over the place. Ash spotted a projector and walked over to it, he pointed it at a clear bit of wall and turned it on. The projector showed a series of cave drawings that were just like the ones of Ksher that Mr. Stone had shown him.
'There's no doubt now, they are looking for Ksher. I just hope that they can be stopped.' Ash thought.
"Hey Ash what are these drawings about?" Vanya asked.
Ash turned around and saw that Vanya, Salem and Thalion were looking at the drawings with a bemused expression.
'None of them know about Ksher, that's good, none of them need to be dragged into this mess any more than necessary.'
"I honestly have no idea Vanya." Ash replied.
They seemed to accept his answer as they all shrugged, everyone had a quick look around the room to see if there was anything useful but they found nothing. They decided to carry on so Salem led them through the door that connected to the next room. This one was considerably larger than the last room and it was even messier, they carefully made their way through the room making sure to make as little noise as possible.
"I can't believe that Team Firestorm have a base inside Meteor Falls." Vanya whispered.
"You have to remember that until recently a lot of Meteor Falls was inaccessible so this place would have been relatively safe." Thalion replied.
Vanya lost her concentration for a moment which caused her to trip on a box, she landed on her backside with a thud, and she groaned and then glared at the box. She got back up and kicked the box angrily as she silently cursed it.
"For an evil organization hell bent on taking over the world they sure do have a messy base." Vanya commented.
"Well by the looks of it they're moving everything out. Which isn't surprising considering that people are able to explore more of Meteor Falls now. They're probably worried that they'll be discovered." Ash said.
Ash walked ahead of the group and peeked around the corner to look down the nearby corridor, he quickly stepped back into the room when he saw the amount of Team Firestorm grunts that were on patrol. Vanya, Thalion and Salem all had a brief glimpse down the corridor as well and then walked back into the room.
"We should leave and get some help. There are way too many grunts for us to deal with and the police will wanna know about Team Firestorm's presence." Ash said.
"Ash is right." Vanya and Thalion added.
Vanya, Thalion and Ash turned around and headed back the way they came, Ash was stopped by a hand gripping on to his shoulder. Thalion and Vanya stopped when they noticed that Ash was no longer by their side and they looked back seeing that Salem was holding Ash's shoulder while she was looking down the corridor the Team Firestorm members were in.
"No we should carry on. They might move everything out of the base before we get back if we try to find someone else. We've gotta stop them now." Salem said firmly.
"I don't know Salem, this is one of their bases so there's no telling how many grunts they have stationed here." Ash said.
"Think about it Ash, if we let them get away we could have another incident like what happened with Team Magma on Mt Chimney." Salem replied.
Ash thought about what Salem said for a moment and then he reluctantly nodded as he had to admit that she had a point.
"Alright I guess you're right." Ash answer dubiously.
Salem smiled and let go of Ash.
"Sure I am, come on let's go." Salem said.
Ash, Thalion and Vanya exchanged a glance and then followed Salem out of the room. They quickly ducked into a room which allowed them to avoid the group that they had worried about. Salem took the lead and Ash, Thalion and Vanya followed her through the base.
As Salem turned down another corridor Thalion was starting to get suspicious, so far they hadn't crossed a single grunt as they walked through the base. At first he brushed it off as luck but now he was starting to wonder how Salem seemed to know which path to choose. He looked back at Ash who had taken the rear guard, the Kanto native appeared to be deep in thought and Thalion wondered whether he was having similar doubts. Thalion slowed his pace until he was side by side with Ash, he tapped the raven haired boy on shoulder which snapped him out of his thoughts. Now that Ash was no longer deep in thought he turned his attention to Thalion.
"Hey Thalion, what brings you back here?" Ash said jokingly.
"Listen Ash, don't you think it's weird how Salem seems to know where she is going." Thalion whispered.
"Yeah, I know for a fact that she has a terrible sense of direction and we've been through far too many corridors and rooms for it to be sheer luck." Ash replied quietly.
"Something isn't right Ash, if this keeps us we're gonna have to consider turning around and leaving Salem."
Ash nodded glumly, he knew that Thalion was right but the idea of leaving Salem in this base when they might just be being paranoid hurt him.
"Hey I think we're at the main office. This is probably where Rethant is skulking if he's here." Salem suddenly stated.
Ash, Vanya and Thalion looked at the rather ostentatious door in front of them and decided that if this was indeed the place where Rethant was then they needed to be prepared. They all took their Pokéballs off their belts and sent out all of their Pokémon. The Pokémon looked around the room in confusion as they were wondering why they had all been sent out.
"Guys we're in Team Firestorm's base, we think that Rethant is in this room so we need you all to be focused." Ash said.
The Pokémon nodded showing that they understood and were ready to face whatever was in the room. Ash pushed the door and it creaked open, he walked into the room first and was quickly followed by Salem, Thalion, Vanya and their Pokémon. They looked around the large open room and saw that it was pretty empty considering how large it was, the only things in the room were a desk, a laptop, a chair and a large screen that was mounted on the wall. They all spotted a man sat behind the desk and could immediately tell who it was thanks to his eyes, one was ice blue and the other was blood red.
"So this is where you've been hiding Rethant." Ash said.
"Yes I've been here since our confrontation at Devon Corp. Tell me how's your Noctowl doing?" Rethant said with a smirk.
Ash growled angrily at Rethant who got up from his chair and stood in front of his desk.
"I have admit that I hadn't expected you to lead them here so quickly and easily. I have to congratulate you." Rethant commented.
Ash looked around in confusion as he wondered who Rethant was addressing.
"Who the hell are you talking to?" Ash asked.
Rethant grinned maliciously at Ash.
"I'm talking to my daughter of course. The person that you Ash Ketchum claim to love."
Ash's eyes widened in shock at the revelation, he turned his gaze to Salem and was praying that Rethant was lying. Sadly the second he saw the evil look in and Salem's eyes that matched Rethant's he knew that he was telling the truth. Ash stepped away from the girl he loved, he felt his heart break as he looked at Salem who was glaring at him with an icy cold stare. Ash was so focused on Salem that he barely heard Rethant's maniacal cackles or the sound of more Team Firestorm members entering the room.
Notes
What will happen to Ash, Vanya and Thalion now? They are trapped and surrounded by Team Firestorm with no help on the way. How will they escape?
How many of you hate me for what I've done to Salem? I'm expecting to get a lot of hate for this.
I'm sure a lot of you are probably confused about Salem but trust me next chapter I will explain how Salem hid her true self for so long.
Honestly the revelation that Salem was Rethant's daughter was meant to happen much later in the story but I've moved it here because I'm bored of writing Salem now, in fact I have been for a while. I find that her presence has changed what I originally wanted the story of Ash travelling through Hoenn to be. Do I regret adding her? No, but if I were to do this again I would introduce her a lot later and I probably wouldn't have had Ash fall for her. This is by no means her last appearance in the story, so Salem fans you will read about her again later.
Thanks for reading this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it.
Please give a review telling me what you liked/didn't like.
If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them.
