"Sammy..." I can't breathe. Standing in front of me in the middle of the forest is my baby brother. "What...how..."
"I invited him." Castiel says. "You can't avoid your family, Dean. Be angry with me if you want, but don't..." He goes silent as I pull Sam into a hug.
Yeah it took me a long time, but I had forgiven him. He was dead drunk, he doesn't remember it and he gave me the greatest gift.
"Hey Sammy."
"Dean." His arms wrap around me in the most familliar way. "Where have you been?" He asks when we pull away.
I place an arm around Castiel's waist, "Here. Well, for a while I moved around, kept hunting. Then I found out...found out about Annaleigh and I bought our house. I thought, if anything were to happen, I should be close to Bobby."
"Does Bobby know?"
"No."
"And..." He looks between Castiel and I.
"My partner, Castiel."
"And Annaleigh is?"
"Our daughter."
He runs a hand through his hair.
"Nearly a year you've been gone and you've gone domestic." I'm not sure what the emotion in his voice is. "I'm happy for you man, you got what you always wanted. Well I never thought it would be with..." He looks to Castiel, "No, not that it matters." He holds out a hand to Castiel who takes it. Sam pulls him into a hug. "Thank you."
"Sammy...I'm sorry."
"No Dean, don't-"
"I'm sorry I left without saying anything. You must have looked for me."
"I did, for weeks, then Bobby called, said you'd paid him a visit. Said you weren't looking to be found. I thought...I let it go. Figured you would call me when you were ready."
"I'm ready." Tears sting my eyes, rolling hot down my cheeks, "Damn, look at me." I wipe my face with my sleeve, "I've gone soft. But I really want you to be part of Annaleigh's life. We don't have much family, I want her to know what little she has."
"There you are." Gabe runs panting up to our little group, "We were looking for you."
"Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean to worry everyone, I didn't hear Cas call all free. Oh um, Gabe, this is Sam." I take Sam's hand and pull him forward, "My little brother. Sam this is Gabe, Castiel's younger brother."
"Hi, Sam, it's great to meet you!" Gabe is his usual exhuberant self, "Damn you're tall." The shorter man cranes his head back just to get a good look at Sam.
"I...hi." Sam is quiet as he shakes Gabe's hand, looking down at him with an unreadable expression.
"We should get back to the party, it's getting late and our guests must be wanting to get home. Plus I dont want to leave poor Cindy with Annaleigh for too long."
"Yeah." I take Castiel's hand and we all head back in the direction of the house while Gabe calls the rest of the guys to let them know I had been found.
"Thank you for watching her, Cindy." I gently take a sleeping Annaleigh from the woman.
"Of course. She was a little angel. With my boys all grown now I miss having a little one."
I smile, "It was great having you, please, call if you ever need anything, get home safe now."
"I just might have to have you plan my next party, it was fantastic. Goodnight now."
"Goodnight." I shut the door behind her.
"I'm gonna head back to Bobby's, can't believe he left, but, uh, we'll see you in the morning right?" Sam lays a hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah, we'll come over. Until then, don't say anything to him?"
"No, of course not." I see him out and then I'm left alone with Castiel and a sleeping Annaleigh.
I lean against the locked door with a heavy sigh.
"Let's go to bed." Castiel takes my free hand and leads me towards the stairs.
"But the mess..." I begin to protest.
"It can wait until the morning."
I let him lead.
