IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ – This chapter is dedicated to a woman named Lola who is currently battling colon cancer. I found out about her thanks to her brother DatGuy355 who asked me to add a female Nidoran named Nidi to the story since it was her favorite Pokémon and Nidi is the nickname she gave it. I decided to do a bit more than just add the Nidoran and as I said before I dedicate this chapter to her. Please send some messages of support for Lola to DatGuy355 so he can show her that people care about her.

"It's a Mew." Ash murmured.
Ash crouched down so he was at the little Mew's level and his look of shock turned to a smile as he watched Mew yawn cutely and then opened its eyes. Ash was mesmerized by the little Mew's bright blue eyes and couldn't stop himself from picking Mew up and cradling it in his arms. He used his index finger to stroke Mew's head which made the legendary Pokémon nuzzle closer to him.
"Are you daddy?" A young female voice asked.
Ash looked to George and Catherine wondering whether they had heard Mew's question and if they had then what he should say in response. He saw the elderly couple simply nod at him so he pulled Mew close to him and smiled at her.
"Yeah that's me." Ash murmured.
Mew smiled at Ash and nuzzled him, her eyes then closed and she drifted off to sleep. Ash smiled at Mew as he heard her softly snoring and was so focused on the tiny Mew that he didn't notice Catherine and George move either side of him. The couple looked from the tiny Pokémon to Ash and could see the love in his eyes, they shared a look as they knew that they wouldn't have to convince him to take the newborn.
"Well it looks like we don't need to discuss about what to do with Mew." Catherine said.
"No we don't but there is a big problem though." Ash replied.
"What's the problem?" Catherine asked.
"Well if I took Mew with me I would be carrying her in my arms and that could cause a bit of a commotion when someone sees me with a Mew."
Everyone went silent as they tried to think of a solution to the problem, the only thing that could be heard were Mew's soft snores. Ash turned his gaze to Celebi who was sitting on his shoulder and was about to ask if she had any ideas when Catherine dove into one of the filing cabinets in the corner of the room and pulled out a file. She started scanning the information on the sheet and when she found what she was looking for she looked up and saw Ash studying her with a bemused expression.
"Do you have any psychic Pokémon?" Catherine suddenly asked.
"Yeah, I have an Espeon and a Meowstic. Why?"
"A couple of years ago a trainer had a shiny Ditto hatch while he was here, he came up with the idea of having his Gardevoir use her psychic powers to force the Ditto to use Transform and become a Ralts. Since Mew also has access to Transform it is likely that your Espeon could do the same for Mew."
"It definitely worth a try, I know that Espeon would be more than willing to help and she does like staying out of her Pokéball so everyone wins. Do you have a transfer machine here so I can do some exchanging?"
"Yes we do."
"Raichu can you go and get Phanpy and Sandshrew for me? I want to send them back to the lab."
Raichu nodded and sprinted out of the door that led outside. Ash watched Raichu charge out of the door until he felt a hand on his shoulder, he turned around and saw George smiling at him.
"Come with me Ash, I'll take you to the transfer room." George said.
"Okay but what about Catherine?"
"I'll stay here and run some tests on Mew, if you don't mind." Catherine said.
"Of course I don't." Ash replied.
Ash gently passed Mew to Catherine who stared lovingly at the tiny legendary Pokémon and hugged her tenderly. He watched as Catherine placed Mew in one of the scanning machines and then followed George out of the room.
Ash and George walked through the house until they came to a room that had a transfer machine and a large screen on the wall. Ash looked at George wondering how this worked as there was no phone like in Pokémon Centre's. George saw the confusion on Ash's face and chuckled.
"Its voice activated, call Professor Oak." George said.
The large screen switched on and after a few moments Professor Oak appeared on the screen and he looked at George with a genuine smile on his face. The two were old friends and hadn't spoken for quite a while, Samuel was so excited to see his old friend that he didn't even notice Ash.
"Ah hello George I haven't heard from you for a while."
"It has been a while Samuel. Catherine and I have been so busy recently that we've pushed everything else aside."
"I understand how that feels. So where is Catherine?"
"Right now she's taking care of a Pokémon that hatched a few minutes ago."
"Well do you mind if I ask what Pokémon just hatched?"
"I believe you should ask the trainer who the Pokémon belongs to not me." George replied as he looked to his right.
Samuel followed his friend's line of sight and suddenly noticed someone standing next to George, on closer inspection he saw that it was in fact Ash.
"Hello Ash, I apologise for not seeing you at first."
"It's no problem Professor."
"So if you don't mind me asking who is this new Pokémon?"
"I'll tell you Professor but you have to promise me that you will not tell anyone else about her."
"Okay Ash, I swear on my honour as a Pokémon Professor and as a former Champion that I will not tell another soul about this mystery Pokémon."
"Alright I'll be right back."
Ash walked out of the room leaving George and Samuel to chat, a few minutes later he walked back into the room with Mew still fast asleep. At first Professor Oak couldn't see the Pokémon however when Ash shifted the Pokémon so that she was facing the screen it gave Professor Oak a clear view of the Pokémon. The old man rubbed his eyes as he couldn't believe that the Pokémon sleeping in Ash's arms could be what it looks like.
"Okay Professor this is my new Pokémon." Ash declared.
"That's a... she's a… M-M-Mew." Samuel stammered.
Ash simply nodded and watched as the Professor's look of shock turned into one of excitement.
"This is an amazing discovery Ash, think of all the secrets we could learn from her."
Ash didn't like where this was going but he wasn't about to interrupt Professor Oak.
"If you just sent her to me for a day I could do some tests on her and..." Professor Oak was cut off by Ash.
"She is not a science experiment for you to test." Ash growled.
Professor Oak was startled and slightly scared by the enraged look in Ash's eyes, he then realised that in hindsight he had probably made his intentions sound a lot worse than they actually are.
"I apologise Ash that sounded worse than I intended it to. I simply want to get some DNA samples and do some tests on them."
The anger on Ash's face vanished and was replaced with a guilty look.
"Oh, I'm sorry Professor. I'm just really protective of my Pokémon, especially the younger ones and I guess the thought of her being treated like a lab rat made me snap."
"It's quite alright Ash, I don't blame you for acting like that and in all honesty I would have been a bit shocked if you hadn't. Listen I can tell that you would not be comfortable sending her here so I'll send a list of things I'll need to George and Catherine's computer and if you'll stay with them for a couple of days then they can take the samples."
"Are you sure that's okay?"
"Yes Ash, as much as I would love to see that little Mew in person I know that taking her away would not only panic her but you too."
"You're right there Professor."
"So is there anything else I can do for you?"
"Yes there is Professor, I want to transfer a few Pokémon."
"Okay Ash who do you want and who are sending to me?"
"I want Espeon and I'm sending Phanpy and Sandshrew back."
As Ash said that Raichu ran into the room with Phanpy and Sandshrew right behind him, both of the ground types looked at Ash wondering why he had asked for them. They then saw the face of Professor Oak on the screen and knew what Ash was about to say.
"Hey you two, I'm sending you both back to lab for a while. Could you two keep working on Sandstorm?" Ash said.
Phanpy and Sandshrew looked disappointed but reluctantly nodded, Ash saw the downtrodden looks on their faces and kneeled down in front of them. The ground types looked up at Ash who pulled them both into a hug. Sandshrew and Phanpy nuzzled Ash happily and then let out a whine as he released his hold on them. He then took their Pokéballs off his belt and returned the ground types.
"I promise that we'll see each other soon." Ash murmured.
Ash placed the Pokéballs in the transfer machine and waited for Professor Oak to return with Espeon's Pokéball, a few minutes later Professor Oak reappeared on the screen with a Pokéball in his hand. He placed the Pokéball in the transfer machine and activated it, Ash watched as his two Pokéballs vanished and were quickly replaced by a single Pokéball.
"Thanks Professor."
"You're welcome Ash. Is there anything else you need?"
"No thanks Professor. I'll leave you to chat with George."
"Okay, farewell Ash."
Ash took Espeon's Pokéball out of the machine and walked out of the room, he headed towards the egg storage room to could give Mew back to Catherine so she could finish the tests that needed to be done. He entered the storage room and Catherine immediately stepped over to him, he handed Mew to Catherine who gently carried the tiny legendary over to the heartbeat monitor.
While Catherine did the tests to Mew, Ash opened the Pokéball he'd gotten from Professor Oak and in a flash Espeon was standing in front of him, he crouched down so he was at Espeon's level which allowed the Eeveelution to nuzzle him. Ash chuckled as Espeon's soft fur tickled his cheek, he then wrapped his arms around Espeon and hugged her tightly.
"Hi Espeon."
"Hello Ash. I've missed you."
"I missed you too Espeon. I hope you, Jolteon and Vaporeon are settling okay at Professor Oak's lab."
"We are Ash. Thank you."
"It's okay Espeon, I'm glad that the three of you are happy."
"Ash I'm happy to be here but why did you choose to bring me here?"
"Well I wanted to see you again and we have a new addition to our family that I need your help to keep secret while she's still young."
"Alright tell me what I need to do."
"Well first I think you should meet her."
Ash picked up Espeon who snuggled up to him, he then carried her over to Catherine who had Mew cradled in her arms. The moment she saw the legendary Pokémon laying in the old woman's arms Espeon's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates.
"Espeon this is our new family member."
"That's a… She's a…." Espeon stuttered just like Professor Oak.
"Yeah she's a Mew, this is why I need your help."
"Okay but what can I do to help?"
"I need you to try and use your powers to force Mew to transform into something else. Can you do that?"
"I believe I can."
Espeon focused on Mew and her eyes glowed blue, moments late a similar glow surrounded Mew and she started to change from pink to brown. Her long, thin tail was replaced by a thick bushy tail and her ears elongated. After a few more seconds Mew had transformed into an Eevee, however she immediately reverted back to a Mew. Ash looked from Mew to Espeon and saw her panting heavily, he looked at her worriedly.
"Are you okay Espeon?"
"Sorry Ash, I failed you." Espeon said sadly.
"No you didn't, it was your first attempt and you managed to do make Mew transform into and Eevee. I bet that in a few days' time you'll be able to keep her transformed permanently."
Espeon smiled and looked up at Ash as she tried to regain her energy, she felt incredibly tired after using so much power trying to make Mew transform.
"Thank you Ash." Espeon replied once she'd recovered.
The machine behind Catherine suddenly made a sound signifying that it had finished doing its scans. Catherine gently handed Mew to Ash and then went over to the machine, she checked over the various results and let out a relieved sigh as she saw that Mew was in perfect health. She turned back to Ash and saw him looking at her anxiously.
"Well is Mew okay?" Ash asked.
"We've done all the test we need to do, Mew is perfectly healthy." Catherine replied.
"Thank you Catherine."
"No problem Ash, we'll need you to stay here for a few days just to make sure Mew's fine and to take some samples for Professor Oak."
"That's fine, I was intending to stay here for a while so that Espeon can master transforming Mew into an Eevee. Is it okay to go take Mew into the other room with me while I talk to Espeon?"
"Yes that's fine Ash, I can still here Professor Oak chatting with George so I'll probably go say hi to him. Just yell if something happens."
"Okay, thanks again Catherine."
Catherine smiled at Ash and placed a gentle kiss on Mew's head, she then walked out of the lab and headed towards the room where George was chatting to Professor Oak leaving Ash, Espeon and Mew in the lab.
Ash tightened his hold on Mew and Espeon and then took them to the living room. He slowly sat down on the couch so he wouldn't jolt Mew and Espeon immediately climbed out of Ash's arms, she laid next to him and nuzzled up to Ash's side which he cradled Mew in his arms.
"She's beautiful." Espeon said.
"Yes she is. So are you, Vaporeon and Jolteon settling in at the lab?"
"Yes we are, thank you for asking."
"I'm glad to hear that. Listen Espeon I was wondering if I could ask you something about mates. I know that this must be a hard thing for you to talk about but I need to know something."
"Its fine Ash, I got over Umbreon a long time ago. So what do you want to know?"
"Well Raichu has been in a very dark place since he found out about Chu and I need to know why he's still so heartbroken."
"Well did the two of them mate?"
"Um I don't know, I haven't asked him about it."
"Well I am going to assume that they did mate since he is still feeling the effects of the incident. Ash, Pokémon are very different to humans when it comes to relationships. When Pokémon mate they create a bond, the strength of the bond depends on the feelings of the individuals."
"So when the Pokémon end their relationship they feel pain depending upon how strongly they felt for their partner." Ash guessed.
"Correct. It's obvious that Raichu was deeply in love with Chu which is why he is in so much pain."
"Espeon if what you said is true then why aren't you still hurting after Umbreon abandoned you?" Ash asked.
"The truth is that I never truly loved him as a mate. When we first met I was in heat and we mated, when I found out that I was pregnant I started to love him because he was the father of my children rather than loving him for who he was. This meant that I didn't really have that strong of a bond with him but still hurt though since he abandoned me, Jolteon and Vaporeon."
"Well you don't have to worry about me abandoning you. You, Vaporeon and Jolteon are family now."
"I know, thank you Ash for giving me and my children a home and a family."
Ash shifted Mew so he was holding her in one arm and used his now free hand to gently stroke Espeon's head which made her purr happily.
Meanwhile in Slateport a ship had landed in the port, the passengers disembarked quickly and made their way out of the port. After a few minutes there was only a girl was left standing on the pier, staring out across the ocean with a female Nidoran sitting on her shoulder. She felt the Nidoran nuzzle her cheek, she turned her gaze to the Nidoran and smiled.
"Come on Nidi let's go and find Ash."
