Kate's investigation into the alleged Satanic underground uncovered possible connectins to convicted sex-offenders. Pedophiles found children to be kidnapped, gave tips about luring them in. And in return this underground helped protect the pedophiles when they fled and broke parole. Their twisted version of "love" and forcing illegal drugs into the kids made them ripe to accept their version of Satanism. Kate found Marshell Goren, a convicted child-molestor who broke parole last year. Goren was going by a different name, had a new hair color, but DNA proved it was him. Kate Lockley still didn't know if Goren was part of the underground, he wasn't talking even to get less prison time, but Kate had a secret weapon. She borrowed Gachnar from Giles, who would've been fine with Kate taking Gachnar permanently. When Kate arrested Goren she brought Gachnar with her. Gachnar could tell what Goren was afraid of. Although child-molestors were at the bottom of the prison food chain Gachnar was more afraid of the people he worked for. Afraid they would think he betrayed them. And despite how well they paid him there was one area in Sunnydale that Marshall Goren was terrified of.
