A/n: Another relatively short one, this time TNT's idea - or TNTinetic's; they have an account now.
Hiccup sat in the caves in the cliff, making notes in his sketchbook.
"So..." he mumbled, "Two new gronckles, a zippleback, five terrors... still no timberjacks..."
Ever since he'd started counting all the new arrivals to Berk, he'd noticed a strange lack of timberjacks. He couldn't work out why that would be; they were similar to typhoomerangs, and Torch had made it obvious that they had no problems living on the island.
'Maybe they have a better place.' Toothless suggested. 'Most dragons do - you know we didn't all live on Berk before the green death.'
Hiccup hummed thoughtfully. There was a timberjack living on Berk - Stokehead - that he could ask about it, but he'd wanted to try to work it out for himself. That plan clearly wasn't getting him anywhere, though.
"Right." he sighed, "Time to visit Stokehead."
'You're on your own.' Toothless yawned, 'I'm having a nap.'
As a timberjack, Stokehead was partial to the forest surrounding the village, and was found there more often than not. Today was no exception, so Hiccup was able to track him down with relative ease.
'Oh, hey Hiccup.' Stokehead greeted. 'Need anything?'
'Actually, yes.' Hiccup admitted. 'You know the, um, other timberjacks? I couldn't help but notice that there aren't really any on Berk, so I was wondering... why that is?'
Stokehead laughed. 'I don't know! I really like it here - can't see why anyone wouldn't. How about we go find some to ask?'
'Sounds good.' Hiccup agreed, 'Let's just go get Toothless, then we can set off.'
'Did you have to fly with him?' Toothless sulked.
"Of course I did! How else was I going to get down the cliff edge?" Hiccup argued lightly. He had expected the response from the night fury, but it was still funny. "It was hard enough getting up."
'Fine. I'll go with you.' Toothless said moodily. Hiccup smiled.
'So... where do timberjacks tend to live, then?'
'Dragon island!'
A few minutes later found the three hovering above the centre of dragon island. "So, now we just have to find one..." Hiccup said. "Can you see any from here?"
Toothless shook his head. 'We need to go a bit lower.' he told them, flapping his wings a bit less to allow himself to drop.
'I see one!' Stokehead shouted. 'Hang on, I'll get them over here! Hey!' he yelled, diving down.
Toothless and Hiccup shared a look, then shrugged. If it meant they got to talk to someone quicker, Stokehead could do whatever crazy attention grabbing technique he wanted.
'What do you wan - oh!' the other timberjack - a female, Hiccup noted - followed Stokehead back when he returned. 'That's -'
'Hiccup, yes.' Stokehead said, pride showing in his voice. 'See? Told you I knew him!'
'And Toothless?' the other checked, smiling at the night fury. Toothless nodded. 'Wow, I can't believe it! What're you doing here?'
'Uh... we were wondering why there are so few timberjacks on Berk.' Hiccup said. 'Do you mind...'
'Telling you?' the timberjack guessed. 'Huh. I never thought about it - we all just live here. Why? Can we come to Berk?'
'If you want.' Hiccup nodded. 'I'm sure Stokehead could do with a few friends!'
'Sure! Let me just tell my friends!'
And with that, the timberjack dived back down to the island. She returned soon, her friends with her.
"Oh." Hiccup said. He hadn't expected her to bring quite so many.
Berk gained eleven new members from the visit.
