After I had departed from Gon and Killua I spent most of the night inside my room practising Gyo, or at least trying to practise Gyo. I had made sure to lock the door this time before I started practising. I had been practising for a few hours and instead of getting any result all I got was hot and sweaty. I doubled over with my hands on my knees as I breathed heavily. I nearly had it several times, but each time I had to shroud and stop otherwise my head felt like it was going to explode. I couldn't help but sigh angrily to myself and bang my head with the palms of my hands. Dropping my hands and standing up straight again I took a deep breath and closed my eyes tightly, glaring at the inside of my eyelids. Just visualize. Visualise my own aura flowing through my body and into every cell then growing.
"Ren!" I shouted, feeling a burst of air from below me.
Taking another deep breath I began concentrating the aura towards my eyes, keeping the glare on my face. I gritted my teeth together as I felt my aura travel from around my body and towards my eyes. It was incredibly painful, but the pain would be worth it if I could catch up with Gon and Killua. I felt the aura travel up neck and towards my head; it made it feel as if my head was going to split in half. Gritting my teeth even more I clenched my hands tighter, digging my fingers into my palms. What I felt afterwards was painful; it felt like my eyes were going to explode. I kept concentrating for a few more seconds, gritting my teeth harder and digging my fingers into my palms tighter before doubling over, slamming my hands onto my knees and breathing heavily with wide eyes.
"I…I think….I think I got it." I said to myself through ragged and heavy breathes.
Smiling widely to myself I stood up slowly. My head felt like it would split in two at any given moment and my eyes felt so dry as if I was standing out in gale force winds.
"Tomorrow, I'll show Wing and see what he says." I said to myself as I stripped off my dress tabard from over my head and stepped out backwards from my shoes. I folded up my dress tabard having gotten lazy over the past few weeks and just tossing it to the side. Once folded I placed it neatly onto a chair and walked over to my bed, flopping down onto my stomach. I bounced slightly and just stared out of the window with my eyes half closed. Yawning loudly, I closed my eyes. Tomorrow I was to show Wing that I could do Gyo and that I was ready for my fight with Gido; assuming he was going to show up.
I was up before everyone else the next day. How did I know? No one was rabidly banging their hands against my door to wake me up. I showered quickly and got dressed. Getting most of the water out from my hair I stepped out of the bathroom and jogged over to the chair. I pulled my dress tabard over my head quickly and stepped into my shoes. Happy with how I was I brushed threw my hair with my fingers. Once that was done I quickly unlocked my door, practically bouncing and ran out of it, closing it loudly behind me and locking it once more. I turned around and began jogging towards the elevator, only to run practically into Gon and Killua. I collided with the two and stumbled backwards a bit, the boys doing the same.
"Ow…" We all said at the same time before the two boys looked at me and I looked back at them.
"Why are you in a rush?" Killua asked me raising an eyebrow as he linked his hands behind his head. I smiled widely at the two, jumping on the balls of my feet on the spot.
"I think I got Gyo!" I said to them excitedly. Gon smiled widely as Killua gave a small smirk.
"That's great, Mishka!" Gon said happily as I nodded my mead quickly, smiling widely.
"Okay, so should we start going to Wing's? Me and Gon were going there anyway to practise with Zushi." Killua said as I nodded my head quickly and walked with the two boys.
We got to Wing's quickly, I was nearly jogging the way there, I was so excited to show Wing that I think I could do Gyo now that I wanted to show him quickly. It came to the point where Gon had to keep a hold of my wrists so that I wouldn't get lost within the crowd or separated from the two.
I stood in front of Wing's TV; it was paused at the point where Hisoka had thrown his arm into the air making it turn to cards. I concentrated hard, looking at the TV determined. Concentrating I put myself into Ren state. I took a deep breath and began concentrating Ren to my eyes. I gritted my teeth and clenched my hands tightly, digging my fingers into the palm of my hands. After what seemed like forever I began seeing lines of purple connected to the cards on the TV. I blinked, getting a better sense of vision and stared at the TV.
"Do you see his Nen?" Wing asked me as I continued to stare at the TV. I could feel Gon, Killua and Zushi all staring at me, wondering the same thing.
"Yes. It looks like there's ten strings connected to the cards from his hand." I said to him, feeling my eye sight going blurry slightly. Blinking again I shook my head a little and concentrated some more.
"You're close." Wing said to me as I exhaled and dropped Gyo.
I rubbed my eyes with the palms of my hands closing my eyes tightly; they felt really dry after doing Gyo. I felt arms around my shoulders and someone rubbing the top of my head with the knuckled of their hand.
"You finally caught up." Killua said as he continued digging his knuckled into the top of my head. I grabbed his hand with mine to make him stop digging in his knuckles.
"Don't do that that hurts!" I said to him as Gon just laughed at the behaviour.
"Tomorrow's your match against Gido, right?" I heard Wing ask making the three of us looking up to him. I nodded my head as I continued to hold Killua's hand above my head and still having one arm each from Gon and Killua around my shoulders. Wing smiled as widely as he normally did and adjusted his glasses, pushing them up his nose.
"Have you got a plan?" He asked me. I furrowed my brows slightly and gave a small nervous smile before shaking my head quickly. He sighed slightly, looking at me seriously. I let go of Killua's hand as he dropped it to his side. Gon and Killua kept an arm each around my shoulders as we looked back at Wing just as seriously.
"You will need one or you may end up like Gon in their first match. Have a think about it over tomorrow. After your match, come back here." Wing said as I nodded my head.
"Okay." I said looking at him determined.
The thirteenth came quicker than I thought. At the same time so did I match. My match went by even quicker. Gido was a no show, apparently too badly injured from his match with Gon which made me the winner by default. I was actually glad, I hadn't come up with a plan on what to do against Gido and if I was honest I was going to just try and run away from his spinning tops whilst thinking of something on the spot.
We were once again at Wing's house after my match. It seemed to be a regular occurrence going to his house; then again he was training us in Nen so it only made sense. Me, Gon, Killua and Zushi all stood in front of Wing as he began explaining to us what we were going to learn next. Wing held a hand to the white board, writing what I could only assume to be "Hatsu" on it in a black marker, with one hand behind his back. He smiled at use with his eyes closed as he spoke.
"Today, we will finally begin to train in Hatsu. Once you master Hatsu, you will have learned the basic Nen principles. After that, you will need to work on developing your individual Nen style." Wing explained to us as he dropped his hand behind his back again.
"Osu!" The four of yes said at the same time, bowing our heads slightly showing we understood what Wing was saying.
"Hatsu is the technique by which you control your Nen. It is the culmination of Nen, and there are six distinct categories." Wing continued to explain to us as we watched him with great interest. Six different categories huh? I wonder what category I would fall into.
"Enhancers are able to strengthen objects. Emitters can propel their aura. Transmuters can alter their aura's qualities. Conjurers are able to manifest their aura. Manipulators can use their aura to control objects and creatures. Specialists are those with a special aura that doesn't fall within the other five classes. The key is to find the power that suits you." Wing explained to us. It was a lot to take in. If Enhancers could strengthen objects did that mean Kitty was an Enhancer? But she also created more balls with that one ball, so did that mean she was a specialist? Or maybe she was a conjurer…Oh this just got a lot more confusing for me before I tried thinking it all through.
Gon was the one to speak up, breaking me from my confusing trail of thoughts.
"The power that suits us?" Gon repeated after him, making sure that he heard right.
"Nen is linked to individual ability, with two areas of particular prominence. The first would be your natural potential. The second would be potential refined later in life. Gon, for example, was born with a flexible, spring body. His acute senses were the product of a childhood spent in nature. From that moment of birth, your Nen aura falls within one of the six categories." Wing explained to us as we listened to him, never making a sound. I felt Killua shuffle slightly next to me as he stuffed his hands into his trouser pockets. Gon and Zushi stayed perfectly still as did I.
"While rare, it is possible for your Nen aura to later change types." Wing said as he walked to the other side of the white board. I sighed slightly to myself in relief, glad he wasn't reading off everyone's strengths as I was sure he wouldn't find much for me; if any.
"If you attempt to learn an ability that does not fit your inclination; you will find it very difficult." Wing said as he removed the cap from his board marker and turned his back to us. He began drawing a hexagon on the white board and wrote the different classes on it.
"This hexagon depicts the relationship among the six categories. The closer a class is to your own, the higher your compatibility to learn it. If you're born with an aura of the Enhancer category, you will find Enhancer abilities easiest to learn and master. And the adjacent Transmuter and Emitter classes will also be easy to learn." He explained to us, never taking his eyes off us. I was finding it difficult to keep up with everything.
"On the other hand, the specialist class, which is furthest away, would be difficult. To illustrate, I'll use skills that you've seen for yourselves." Wing explained to us as we continued to listen to him.
I furrowed my brows slightly as I was taking everything in. I think I managed to get everything, but I wasn't sure; and if I was honest I didn't really want him going over everything again.
"Hisoka was able to change his aura into a rubbery substance. This would be a Transmuter ability. Gido used his tops and body as weapons by making them spin faster, which would be an Enhancer ability. However, since using so many tops as weapons also requires Manipulation skill, he wasn't as successful." Wing explained to us. The four of us nodded our heads, indicating that we were understanding, or at least understanding to some degree.
"As for Kastro, his Tiger Bite was incredibly strong. Had he mastered it, he would have been among the strongest Nen users. I believe that his aura fell into the Enhancer class. However, he focused his energy on the power to create a double, which is a Conjurer skill. And he also required a Manipulator ability to control the double. Both of those are relatively far from the Enhancer category." Wing explained. He stopped talking allowing us to take it in. I was running through everything in my head, trying to make sense of it all. I think I got it; but I wasn't one hundred percent sure.
"So neither was compatible with an Enhancer type?" Gon asked, breaking the silence that fell between all of us.
"Indeed, it requires a great deal of work and natural talent to learn an incompatible ability. And as a result, he squandered most of his Nen potential." Wing said as he nodded his head and closed his eyes. That sounded more like a terrible life choice than anything else; it seemed like a shame really. I bet if he hadn't done what he did; Kastro would be an amazing Nen user.
"So he made the wrong choice." Killua said simply, raising an eyebrow in question and confusion. Zushi looked down at the ground in quiet thought.
"He was a great fighter… It's a shame." Zushi said as I nodded my head, fidgeting slightly on the spot from both the conversation and the way the conversation was going.
"If it made him happy I guess it's okay…" I said, drifting off in my sentence a little bit. If something made you happy than why change it?
Wing smiled at us, keeping his eyes closed as we looked back at him.
"Well? Do you see the importance of understanding your own auras and inclinations?" Wing asked us. Me, Gon and Zushi all nodded our heads at him.
"Osu!" We said at the same time, showing Wing that we understood; even if I was fair from understanding what Wing meant. I guess I would need to pick it up as I went along.
"Given that, is there any way to learn which category your aura falls into?" Killua asked him, making the three of us look at him in question. He did have a point; it would be nice to see what category we fell into so that we could learn better from that. Wing frowned slightly and then smiled lightly at us.
"There is." He said simply to us, keeping his eyes closed with a small smile.
Wing walked into the kitchen and filled something with water. He walked back into the front room and nodded at us to stand at the table. As Wing placed the glass down, the four of us stood in front of the table opposite him. Wing dropped a leaf on top of the water. The leaf floated in the water.
"Water Divination, a Shingen-ryu technique for classifying your aura. It's also used in Hatsu training. You place your hands beside the cup and use Ren. The result will reveal your category." Wing explained to us, keeping his hands by his sides as the four of us stared at the wine glass full of water. That was an odd way to discover someone's aura category; but I wasn't about to dismiss or argue against it since I knew nothing of this. Wing placed his hands beside the glass, but never touched it. Pressure filled the room as he used Ren. The four of us leaned forward to watch what was happening. The water rose into the air with the leaf staying in the middle and began overflowing the cup.
"The water's overflowing…" Gon said amazed at what was happening. I had to admit I was amazed as well.
"If the amount of water changes, that means you're an Enhancer. This shows that my aura falls within the Enhancer class." Wing explained to us as I nodded my head. So that meant Wing was an Enhancer. You learn something new every day and that was in the literal sense. The water began overflowing onto the table and started making a puddle onto the table before dripping and leaking onto the floor. The pressure in the air lifted as Wing stopped using Ren. The water stopped overflowing, only a few drops dripping onto the floor.
"Okay, now it's your turn." He said to us, picking up a napkin. The four of us looked away from the glass and at him, smiling widely.
Gon was the one to go first. He placed his hands on either side of the cup as me and Killua stood on one side of him and Zushi stood on the other side of him. Gon smiled widely as he used Ren. We all watched wide eyed and excited as Gon concentrated on using Ren. Water started to overflow from the glass. Gon gasped slightly to himself at what he was doing while the rest of us smiled widely.
"Gon's an Enhancer, too?" Killua questioned, continuing to smile widely.
"That's so cool!" I said smiling widely at the glass.
Next it was Zushi's turn. Gon took the space Zushi was in as Zushi stood in the middle of all of us. He placed his hands next to the glass without touching it. He concentrated on using Ren, looking at the glass with a determined look. The three of us leaned down, looking at the glass close up to see what type of class Zushi's aura fell into. The leaf began moving around in a circle.
"The leaf moved!" Zushi said as Wing continued to watch us with a smile on his face and hands behind his back.
"If the leaf moves, that makes you a Manipulator." Wing explained to him as Gon moved his head closer to the glass, looking at it in amazement.
Next it was my turn. I took Zushi's place as he took mine. I pulled up my shirt sleeves to my elbow as they were covering my hands. Placing my hands next to the class I smiled widely to myself with wide eyes and concentrated Ren. The four of us stared at the glass. The water began to form little specs; it looked like it was becoming dirty. I raised an eyebrow slightly.
"The water's becoming dirty…I don't think I dropped anything in it." I said looking at it oddly. Wing continued to smile the widest Wing ever smiles as he spoke once more.
"If impurities appear in the water, that makes you a Conjurer." Wing said as I smiled widely to myself and nodded my head.
The last person was Killua. I stood where he was standing as he took my spot.
"Okay, I'm last!" Killua said happily as he cracked his fingers. Killua placed his hands by either side of the glass and focused Ren. We watched with wide eyes and interest as Killua continued to smile at the glass. After a few seconds he looked irritated at the glass and focused a bit more. After a while of nothing happening, Killua got very annoyed.
"Nothing's happening." Killua said as he moved his hands back from the glass, looking annoyed at it.
"Indeed…" Wing trailed off as me and Gon looked at the Nen teacher. We looked back at the glass again as Gon began to speak.
"The leafs not moving." Gon said as I nodded my head, looking at the water and Killua's hands. Killua let his Ren drop as well as his hands and looked at Wing, pulling a wide frown.
"Do I not have any potential?" He questioned as we continued to watch the glass.
"Not at all. Taste the water." Wing said to him as me, Gon and Zushi looked at him.
"Taste it?" Killua questioned as we all looked back at the glass. The four of us dipped our fingers tips just into the water and then stuck them into our mouths. I couldn't help but close my eyes tightly and scrounge up my nose.
"It might be a little sweet…" Killua said surprised.
"You're right." Gon said removing his finger from his mouth.
"Yes, it's a bit sweet." Zushi said removing his finger from his mouth as did the same and nodded my head quickly.
"It's definitely sweet." I said pulling a frown with my eyes still screwed shut and nose scrounged. I never really liked sweet things or sour things because I was very sensitive to them; so I was never allowed sugar when I was younger and who liked sour things in the first place? Gon looked back at Wing as I rubbed my eyes with the palms of my hands and shook my head.
"Isn't this just water?" Gon asked him as I opened my eyes. The rest of us looked at Wing as he continued to smile.
"It's just water. But the taste changed. Because of Killua's aura." Wing explained, but at the same time didn't explain.
"And that means?" Killua asked him as we all wondered the same.
"You're a Transmuter." Wing said to him happily.
"Oh!" Killua said, placing a hand onto his chin and looking up slightly to the ceiling through the corner of his eyes as the rest of us turned our heads smiling widely at him.
"A Transmuter?" Zushi said as Killua looked like he was in thought about something and things he could do as a Transmuter. Wing held his hand out to us making the rest of us turn our heads back to him. Killua dropped his hand back to his side once more.
"Now, you three know how your auras are classified. Use the next four weeks to train hard, so the Water Divination results become more pronounced." Wing said to us as he held his hand behind his back once more. The four of us nodded our heads at his request.
"Osu!" We said to him all at once.
The four of us began training every day since then. We rarely spent time training together as we trained in Nen, mostly Ren so that we could see what the water would do. As each day past, more impurities began turning up into the water. I spent hours sitting on the bathroom floor, holding my hands next to the glass of water with leaf on top and concentrating Ren. My Ren had gotten a lot stronger and the impurities began to prove it.
As week two passed, the impurities began forming into an actual object. At first I was surprised and stopped Ren to quickly move away from the glass thinking it was going to explode. When I declared it safe enough to return to the glass, I began concentrating once more, the impurities beginning to form into an actual object once more, but they still looked like impurities; not a fully formed object.
We had met up during one weekend. All we did was talk about how our training was going. Gon had said he had arranged a fight with Hisoka. At first, me and Killua looked at him worried, before we saw the determined look on Gon's face as his fists shook with either excitement or fear. In the end, we both wished him luck and said we'd be in the stands cheering him on the best we could without distracting him. This was important to Gon; me and Killua had no right to interfere.
It was after that that we all went straight back to training once more. The training was hard, and I spent almost every night in the shower, sitting on the bathroom floor practising Ren for Water Divination made you sweat; a lot. But that might have been from the concentrating I had to do.
However I did find this, no matter how much I tried I couldn't see clearly what the object was in the water. It looked thin, very thin and a couple of times I had missed what it was completely. I got frustrated and even yelled in anger trying to work out what the object was; but yelling never got me anywhere. So instead, I practised harder and harder, some night I didn't even allow myself to sleep. I didn't want to fall behind Gon or Killua; it was a close call last time.
I continued to practise, the only source of light being the light from the window as I didn't want to move from my spot on the floor. I glared at the glass as I held my hands out on either side of it, concentrating Ren. I saw something slither and shine in the light from the window and raised an eyebrow slightly. It looked silver in colour and slightly spikey. I dropped Ren and slowly put my hand into the water, grabbing the object. It wasn't very long as the glass wasn't very big. Taking out the object I got up and made my way to the light switch. Turning it on I blinked in confusion.
"It looks like barbed wire." I muttered to myself and poked one of the spikey bits with my thumb.
"But it doesn't hurt…" I muttered once more as I examined it. I walked back over to the glass and sat on my legs in front of it once more. Placing each hand on either side of the glass I concentrated my Ren once more. The same result happened again. In a way, I couldn't help but smile widely to myself, that was interesting; well to me it was anyway.
Soon July the seventh came around and we were supposed to meet Wing back at his house wife Zushi. Me, Gon and Killua had met each other in the hall, and smiled widely at each other as we began making her way back to Wing's house. I stood next to Gon and Killua as Zushi stood next to Gon. Wing had us standing back in front of the table with the water filled glass topped with a leaf. Wing stood on the other side of the table, his hands behind his back as we smiled up at him; apart from Killua who stood with his normal blank look.
"Now, show me what you've accomplished with your training. Killua you're first." Wing instructed us as Killua walked to one side of the table.
Killua placed his hands next to the glass and started concentrating Ren, a serious look on his face. We stared at the glass with serious looks ourselves as Killua continued to concentrate Ren. After a few more seconds, he let Ren die down and looked at Wing with a smirk on his face.
"I'm done." Killua said to Wing. We all moved towards the glass. I frowned as me, Gon, Zushi and Wing all stuck our fingertip into the water. We stuck our fingertip into our mouths. My eyes widened as I pulled a face and quickly removed my finger, shaking my head quickly side to side and screwing my eyes shut while scrounging my nose. I made a long squeak nose through my closed mouth.
"It's sweet!" Zushi announced shocked.
"Wow, it tastes like honey." Gon said wide eyed. I opened my eyes after rubbing my nose with the palm of my hands. Killua closed his eyes and smirked, happy with what he had accomplished. Wing smiled at him, closing his eyes.
"Excellent. Zushi, you're next." Wing said, amazed by what Killua had done.
"Osu!" Zushi said to Wing in response.
Zushi took Killua place by the table and put his hands either side of the glass. He began concentrating Ren. After a while Zushi began sweating like mad around his face as he clenched his teeth looking at the glass as if trying to make it explode. The leaf started turning, it turned more than it did the first time. Zushi concentrated as much as he can until he dropped Ren and flung his head back taking a deep breath. He fell forward slightly, disappointed with how much he did.
"This is the best I can manage…" Zushi said in defeat to himself and Wing.
"That's alright…But it won't be enough to pass. You'll need to train some more." Wing said to Zushi with a hand on his hip and a wide "Wing" smile as Zushi stayed slumped over breathing heavily.
"Osu." Zushi said, keeping his eyes closed.
"Gon, you're next." Wing said to Gon, smiling widely at him.
"Osu." Gon said back to Wing, nodding his head forward.
Gon took Zushi's place and placed his hands on either side of the glass without touching it. Gon closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He then snapped them open and began concentrating his Ren. A second after he did the glass started overflowing with water and started to break. I gasped slightly as Wing stepped forward.
"Stop… Stop, Gon!" Wing said as he grabbed the napkin and began moping the table. Gon dropped his Ren allowing Wing to pick up the glass and hold the napkin against the crack. I frowned slightly; I didn't get a turn yet. Gon smiled up at Wing as Wing smiled into the glass and then at Gon.
"You really are something." Wing commented making Gon laugh.
"I was feeling pretty good about this." Gon said to him, smiling widely as Wing kept a grip on his now broken wine glass. Wing looked at me as he held onto the glass.
"I'll go get another glass so we can see what the training has done for you." Wing said as I nodded my head with a determined smile.
Wing soon returned with another glass filled with water. He placed it on the table in front of us. I walked to the other side of the table and swallowed the lump in my throat. Placing my hands on each side of the glass I exhaled slowly and began concentrating Ren. I stared determined at the glass as the wire began to form in it. I could feel the others staring at the glass wide eyed as the object fully formed inside the water. Exhaling once more I furrowed my brows and dropped my hands by my sides, turning my head to Wing with a worried smile on my face.
"This happens." I said to him with a worried smile. Careful not the spill the water I slipped two fingers into the glass and removed the wire, pressing my thumb against the spike
"But it doesn't hurt." I said to him and I pressed down hard with my thumb, then lifted my finger showing nothing. Gon was the one who was brave enough to touch one of the spikes himself. When he did he looked at it wide eyed.
"It doesn't hurt at all." He said as Killua and Zushi did the same.
"That's amazing." Zushi said staring at it wide eyed as Killua nodded his head.
Wing looked at the three of us as he took a hold of the wire, dropping it back into the glass and then picked up the glass into his hand. He smiled widely at me, Gon and Killua.
"Gon, Killua, Mishka. Today is your graduation day." He said to us as we smiled widely at him in surprise.
"Huh?" Gon asked him, unable to believe what he heard.
"Really?" Me and Killua asked him at the same time as we looked up to him. Gon lifted up his arm as he turned his head towards us, a wide smile on his face.
"We did it, Killua, Mishka." Gon said as the three of us lightly banged our wrists together, me banging a wrist onto Gon's and another onto Killua's, smiling widely at each other.
"Yeah." Killua said, nodding his head. We looked at Zushi as he looked up at Wing. He looked discouraged. Our smiles disappeared as we looked at Zushi with wide eyes and questioning looks.
"Master, what about me?" Zushi asked Wing. Wing looked at Zushi, continuing to smile at him with his eyes closed as he held onto the glass.
"You still need to train a bit more." Wing said to him. Zushi looked like he was about to scream and instead bowed his head down, closing his eyes tightly as he gritted his teeth together. The three of us smiled widely at Zushi, trying to encourage him.
"Keep at it." Killua said to him smiling widely.
"You can do it!" Gon said smiling widely at him.
"Just keep trying and never give up." I said smiling widely at him myself. That was the best advice I could give; after all, that was the approach I took.
"Osu…" Zushi said as he turned his head to face us slightly. He opened his eyes as he gave a small look of determination; but he wasn't all that convinced.
"And Gon., Mishka… I have something important to tell you." Wing said looking at Gon as we looked up to Wing.
"Something important?" Me and Gon questioned him at the same time as we looked at him in question. Wing turned to face us fully, a serious look replacing the smile he had sitting on his face not too long ago.
"Gon Freecss, Mishka, you two have passed the Secret Hunter Exam!" Wing said to us. Me, Gon and Killua looked at each other confused and looked back up to Wing again, who smiled at us instead this time.
"You've passed. Congratulations." He said to us to as we continued to stare at him in disbelief.
Wing placed the glass back onto the table as the three of us continued to stare at him wide eyed. Wing took his spot in front of us once more, keeping the small smile on his face as we stared at him confused. Secret Hunter Exam? I thought we had already passed it? This just got more confusing by the second.
"The Secret Hunter Exam?" Gon questioned Wing.
"Correct. You were able to pass." Wing said to us as I raised an eyebrow slightly in question, looking at him confused.
"What do you mean?" I asked him as I stuck my hands behind me back, lightly holding onto the fingers.
"You are required to learn Nen before becoming a Hunter, as professional Hunters are expected to be exceptionally strong. One of your basic tasks as a Hunter will be apprehending evil poachers and criminals." Wing explained to us. I couldn't help but shift slightly on the spot that was the type of person I was set out to be in the first place. I couldn't help but furrow my brows slightly, if we had to learn Nen…what about my brother?! Did big brother learn Nen?! I felt myself panic slightly, there was no way I could contact him and ask. I furrowed my brows more in thought as I fidgeted with the sleeves of my shirt; I had to believe that big brother was able to do it. If I could do it then he could with flying colour.
"You must be strong enough to fight crime. However, this power is highly destructive when for wrongdoing. Revealing the existence of Nen during the Exam would be dangerous. Therefore, the test is only administrated to those who pass the public Exam." Wing said to us as he placed his hands onto his hips. Killua crossed his arms over his chest and closed his eyes as he began to speak, making me and Gon look at him.
"Oh, so you were going to teach us, or at least Gon and Mishka, all along…" Killua said as he looked at me and Gon while lacing his fingers behind his head.
"Yes. I should mention that the head Shingen-ryu master is Chairman Netero." Wing said to us smiling. The three of us pulled faces of disbelief and un-comfortableness as a picture of Chairman Netero invaded our minds. He was a strange man, a very strange man indeed.
"The master has told me much about you." Wing said as Killua glared at his own mental imaged.
"That old man…" Killua muttered as I shivered slightly.
Wing began speaking to Killua, catching all our attentions again and wiping the image of Chairman Netero from our minds.
"Killua. Please take the Hunter Exam again. You will definitely pass next time." Wing said to him as Killua dropped his hands to his sides. Me and Gon smiled widely at our friend, happy that someone else was giving him encouragement to take the Exam again. Me and Gon nodded our heads, agreeing with Wing.
"You are more than qualified. I guarantee it." Wing said to him smiling at him. Killua looked uncomfortable and turned his head away from the smiling face of Wing, shrugging his shoulders as he looked away.
"Yeah, if I feel up to it." Killua said to him as I laughed slightly under my breath at Killua's un-comfortableness of taking a compliment.
"Hey, Wing… Have you heard anything about the others who passed?" Gon asked as I snapped my head towards Wing wondering the same thing.
"Please say yes!" I said to him looking at him hopefully. I needed to know if my big brother passed the Secret Hunter Exam.
"Sure. Hanzo and Kurapika have learned Nen from other teachers." Wing said making me smile in relief.
"Really?!" I said smiling widely up at Wing with a wide happy smile on my face, I bent my knees slightly, wanting to jump about in the air and shout loudly and happily about my brother learning Nen; but I had to control myself even though that control was becoming harder and harder. I would have felt really bad if I learned something before my brother. I looked back at Wing as he continued to explain about the others.
"Pokkle is struggling with Ren. Leorio has begun studying for the medical school exam. Hisoka and Illumi already knew Nen, so they were qualified." Wing continued. Who was Illumi? I would need to ask that question later.
"Then Kurapika and Leorio are working hard." Gon said.
"Yeah." Killua said as I nodded my head excitedly, finding it difficult to control my excitement.
"Big brother learned Nen too! That's amazing!" I said jumping up and down in the air and spinning around in a small circle smiling widely to myself while throwing my arms up in the air as if I was doing star jumps.
I felt Gon grab my wrist to make me stay on the ground as I continued to smile widely to myself, glad I got that out of my system although still excited about my brother learning Nen. I guess I was more excited that I learned something without him holding my hand all the way through it. When we met again in September, I could show him what I could do and make him proud!
"Now, Gon, I have one warning for you." Wing said making me and Gon looked back at Wing with wide smiles on our faces. Gon let go of my wrist once he was sure I wouldn't jump about like a mad man again.
"When you fight Hisoka tomorrow, don't push yourself too hard. All right?" Wing demanded and asked him as Gon continued to look at him smiling widely. Gon nodded his head, giving Wing his best determined look.
"Yes, sir!" Gon said to him, keeping the smile on his face along with his determined look.
The three of us left Wing's house when night fell. Me and Gon looked over our shoulders and waved at Wing, smiling widely with our arms waving in the air. Killua looked behind him with a small smile of thanks as we continued walking forward. I looked at the other two, remembering what Wing had said.
"Hey, who's Illumi? There was no one by that name at the Hunter Exam..." I said to them trailing off. Killua dropped his eyelids at me and looked at me in disbelief.
"My brother, the guy I was facing at the Hunter Exam." He said, rather bitterly and annoyed that I didn't know. I looked at him confused and furrowed my brows.
"But he's called Gittarackur!"I said to him as Killua shook his head.
"That was an alias. Besides, it doesn't matter now." He said shrugging his shoulders as I sighed a bit. In a way I guess he was right; but I felt rather silly for not knowing that Illumi was Killua's brother and that Gittarackur was just an alias to hide that. Oh well, you learn something new everyday I guess and now I didn't have to question it later if we ever came across him. Tomorrow, it was Gon's fight against Hisoka. We all just crashed in Gon's room, watched some TV, ate some snacks and then fell asleep pretty easily.
The next day came quickly. Me and Killua said we'd be in the stands cheering on Gon. We quickly left his room so he could get ready and made our way to the stands for Hisoka and Gon's fight. Many people filled up the hall ways. I looked around, furrowing my brows slightly and fiddling with my training shirt sleeve as Killua walked around with his hands laced behind his head.
"So many people want to see this fight." I muttered to him as Killua looked at me from the corner of his eye and nodded his head.
"Yeah, lots of people are seeing it as a huge fight. After all everyone Hisoka fights dies." Killua said to me. I felt a shiver run up my spin as we found the area and began making our way to our seats.
"That maybe so but its Gon." I said to him as we sat down.
"Yeah." Killua said nodded his head as he lazily draped his arms across his knees. I sat up straight with my hands in my lap as we watched the arena down below.
"Hello, everyone! In the arena today, we have Gon versus Hisoka. This is the fight you've all been waiting for. As you can see the stands are packed. The tension in the air before the start of this match is almost unreal!" Cocco the announced shouted through her microphone as the people in the stands muttered and talked among themselves about the match.
"How much longer?"
"Get this thing started!" People from the crowds began shouted as we continued to watch down at the arena, waiting for the match to start. I felt worried for Gon, if Gon wasn't worried I was worried enough for us both.
The arena suddenly went black making me jump in my seat slightly and look around. I looked back at the arena, watching as the walls all light up with fire. Spot lights turned on and smoke suddenly filled the air of the arena. When it cleared, it showed Gon.
"Gon is the first to arrive! After four fights, he has a three to one record! He's on a roll!" Cocco shouted as Gon began walking forward towards the middle of the arena. The spotlights travelling all around as Gon walked. Me and Killua watched silently, concentration on our faces as we watched our spikey haired friend.
"You can do it, Gon!"
"Don't you need your fishing rod?"
"You can't catch Hisoka with your bare hands!" People from the stands were shouting. Gon paid no mind to it though as he continued walking forward. Blue flames appeared on the other side of the wall, doing the same as the flames on Gon's side.
"And next, with a fiery display… Hisoka appears!" Cocco shouted as smoke rose to the air. When the smoke cleared, Hisoka was standing in the middle of the disappearing cloud. Hisoka began walking forward towards the middle of the arena as Gon stopped walking.
"His lethal battle with Kastro is still fresh in everyone's minds. His record is nine to three. If he wins, he can challenge a Floor Master. If he loses, he falls all the way down." Cocco shouted as the crowd cheered for Hisoka or Gon.
"However, he has yet to lose when he steps into the ring! Will his undefeated record continue?" Cocco shouted as the crowd began cheering louder.
Hisoka stopped in front of Gon as the two stared at each other. I could see Hisoka's aura, it was purple in colour and felt threatening. I couldn't help but shiver at it as tingles ran down my spine, making the hair on the back of my neck stand up on end. I watched as Gon concentrated his own aura; it had a completely different feel to Hisoka's. The walk ways to the arena started to fall to the floor. The referee went up to the two and began explaining how the match would work. Hisoka took three steps back as Gon took back one and crouched. The referee threw his hand into the air, signalling for the match to begin.
"This is the match you've been waiting for. The die has been cast! Who will make the first move? It's Gon!" Cocco shouted through the microphone. Gon launched himself towards Hisoka, using his speed to his advantage. I wanted to cover my eyes throughout the fight, but I was here to support Gon; so I couldn't do that. Gon ran at Hisoka and jumped at him. Hisoka threw a chop down onto Gon's back making Gon land on the ground crouched, but then he jumped up at Hisoka again and started kicking near his face. Gon began punching incredibly fast only to have his face slammed by Hisoka's palm. Gon spun in a circle away from Hisoka and landed on his feet. He took the chance and ran around Hisoka. I could feel the breath in my throat catch; the fight was intense and it had only just begun.
Gon ran around him in a circle and jumped at him again. He threw another punch at Hisoka's face and then another but Hisoka was quicker and slammed the palm of his hand into Gon's gut. It looked like his winded Gon as he pushed him back, making Gon skid across the floor on his feet. Gon ran and jumped at Hisoka again, not giving the magician a chance to think; not that Hisoka needed time to think. Gon punched and kicked towards Hisoka's face some more until Hisoka slammed his elbow into his nose. I winced at the sight, but forced myself to continue to watch. Gon threw a kick into Hisoka's shoulder, which was only blocked my Hisoka's arm.
Gon jumped back and ran at him again, throwing more kicks and punches which were only being blocked by the magician some more. Hisoka threw a punch towards Gon; who used the same technique Hisoka used and blocked it with his arm. Gon went back again, throwing punches and kicks again and Hisoka dodged every single one of them. Hisoka went to kick Gon, who jumped onto his leg. Gon brought his hand down towards Hisoka only to be forced to move back as Hisoka took his turn to throw punches at Gon. Gon kept dodging them all, apart from one which hit him square in the face. Gon skidded back on his feet, creating a trail of dust from where he skidded.
"A clean hit! One point to Hisoka!" The referee shouted as the crowd began cheering. I watched the arena with wide eyes, Gon was doing so well; they were both dodging each other's attacks and it was only because Gon didn't expect one that he got hit.
"Wh-What an intense exchange. I never got to sneak in a word!" Cocco shouted as the crowd continued to cheer and scream. I saw Killua narrow his eyes from the corner of my eyes as we continued to watch the match. Killua gritted his teeth slightly as I watched with furrowed brows.
Gon ran at Hisoka once more and threw a punch at him, only to suddenly stop and instead moved so fast that it looked like multiple copies of him were everywhere. I watched in amazement and with wide eyes as Gon bolted to the left and began lifting up one of the arena slabs. Gon flipped the slab towards Hisoka who stood there calmly.
"There is it! Gon's Stone Flip!" Cocco shouted as Gon jumped behind the stone, using it to keep himself covered from Hisoka. Gon kicked the stone shattering it into pieces. I had a hard time trying to find Gon as Hisoka was breaking bits of rubble.
And that's when it happened.
Gon punched Hisoka. Gon punched Hisoka hard, square into his cheek. The punch sent Hisoka skidding back on his feet with Gon landing crouched down. I watched with wide eyes as Killua watched with a small smile.
Gon had did it.
Gon did what he set out to do. He punched Hisoka in the face.
