I was up bright and early the next day. Even though the Phantom Troupe was gone, I still wanted to get contacts. Who knew who else was here that were after Scarlet eyes, and if they found out someone was alive with those eyes; they'd probably do anything to get them. I walked out of my room in her hotel suit and found Gon and Killua already awake. Leorio and Zepile were passed out on the floor because of their insane drinking last night. I smiled widely at the two and jogged over.
"Good morning!" I said to them cheerfully. Gon smiled widely through his mouthful of cereal as Killua ignored me and continued eating his cereal. Gon was wearing his usual clothing but Killua had decided that wearing a short pinkish coloured shirt with long white sleeves was todays look. He changed clothes more times than I could count. I decided to let the two eat their breakfast and went back towards my room, heading into the bathroom.
I quickly showered and combed through my hair. I couldn't help but frown to myself, what my brother said last night; and how he said it, it was all too confusing and it made me sad. I sighed slightly to myself and walked over to my training shorts. I dug through them looking for the pockets. Once found I dragged out my phone and flipped it open, no messages and no missed calls. I debated rather or not I should text him, asking him if he was okay or not. Something felt different about my brother, just by the sound of his voice when he said my name yesterday. He sounded more…distant and a lot more grown up; as if he took on a lot of responsibilities all of a sudden.
I shook my head quickly, deciding not to think about it and quickly moved the phone cursor to the messaging button. I opened that and began typing my message.
"Good morning big brother, are you okay? Please please please PLEASE text me back? You didn't sound okay yesterday and it's really worrying! So please please please please PLEASE TEXT BACK! Mishka xx" With that, I hit the send button, sending the message to my brother. I don't think I'd get a reply; my brother didn't seem like the type of person to send texts back, or even reply to them. I quickly got changed, remembering I was standing in the bathroom, completely naked. I shivered as I pulled on everything and brushed through my hair with my fingers.
After exiting the bathroom I joined Gon and Killua in the lounge part. Gon smiled widely as I shoved a hand into my training short pocket.
"Me and Killua have decided it'd be a good idea to have a picnic." Gon said as Killua nodded his head.
"So we'll need to get a lot of food." Killua said as I looked at the two and nodded my head quickly, smiling widely.
"Sounds great! I want to get some black contacts while we're out then." I said to the two, smiling widely. They looked at me questionably making me look at them back just as questionably.
"Why? The Phantom Troupe are dead." Killua questioned. I nodded my head slightly and looked at him with a serious look crossing my face.
"That may be so. But what if other people are after scarlet eyes? If they find out that there's someone living with them they'll do anything to get them. It's just safer." I said to him, smiling slightly at the end of my sentence. Killua thought about it for a second before nodding his head agreeing with what I had said.
"Okay, sounds reasonable." He said simply. Gon smiled widely at the two of us as we stood in a small circle.
"Let's go or all the good spots in the park will be gone!" He said making me and Killua nod our heads agreeing with him.
The three of us quickly made our way out of the hotel and began walking the streets of Yorknew city. It was bright, sunny, but oddly cool enough to wear long sleeves and not feel like you were going to die of heat stroke. I looked at the two boys questionably with an eyebrow raised.
"So…what exactly where we getting food wise?" I asked them. Gon smiled widely with his brows furrowed as Killua looked away trying to avoid eye contact. I frowned widely at them, looking at them with a slightly annoyed look.
"No shopping list?" I asked them as Gon smiled apologetically. I sighed slightly as Killua closed his eyes and linked his fingers behind his head.
"We can pick up whatever we want to eat. Not really a problem." Killua said as I looked at him slightly annoyed before smiling slightly with my brows furrowed.
"I guess not, but it's nice to know what we're aiming to get." I said them as we entered the supermarket.
All three of us picked up a shopping basket, not trusting each other enough with a shopping trolley. We would probably ride it up the aisle. But at the same time, were we really getting this much food? I shook the feeling off and quickly dug my phone out of my pocket and flipped it open; there was no text back from my brother and no missed phone calls either. I frowned widely and furrowed my brows, flipping the phone shut. I should have known that…I guess hearing his voice would have to be enough for me.
We picked up all the food, it was mostly junk food. If I didn't have a say in it would have all been junk food, but I managed to persuade them that having something healthy in there like some fruit, wouldn't hurt them. I was going to be the only one eating the fruit anyway. I had wondered off on my own to the glasses and contacts section of the store. I was determined to buy these black contact lenses. I looked up and down the shelves, there was blue, grey, green, brown, ever colour under the sun but black. I furrowed my brows slightly as I continued to scan the shelves until I spotted a pair on the top shelf. I jumped up to try and grab it, but was too short to reach them. I continued jumping until someone else grabbed them making me look at the empty spot with wide eyes and mouth slightly agape. I looked in the direction the hand came in to see Killua looking at the contact bored before handing them over to me.
"You need to grow taller." He said making me glare at him slightly and stick my tongue out at him. Killua glared back slightly and stuck his tongue out, pulling down the lower part of his eye.
We finished our shopping and went to pay for it all. It came to the grand total of fifty thousand Jenny; that much was enough to keep Sarah and her little girl plus three extra guests a float for a few days…and we spent that much on food for one day. All I could hope for was that Gon and Killua would eat it all and wouldn't let any of it go to waste. We walked out of the superstore receiving odd and questioning looks as we had several bags in our arms and hands. I looked at Gon and Killua, smiling widely.
"I want to put my contacts in, is it okay to find a bathroom?" I asked them. Gon smiled widely and nodded his head.
"Yeah." He said simply, making me smile widely back at him. We quickly left the superstore front so that we were out of the way of people and went to look for a public bathroom so that I could put my new contacts in. The sooner I got them in the sooner I could get used to them. We were lucky, we managed to find one not that far away; about ten minutes away from the superstore. The three of us walked over to the wall. Gon and Killua placed their bags down onto the ground and jumped onto the wall. I quickly placed my bags down onto the floor lightly and dug through them all until I found my contacts. Once found I took them out the bag and looked at the two.
"I won't be long okay?" I said to the two boys and turned around, jogging over to the girls' bathroom.
"Don't take forever!" I heard Killua yell back making me sigh slightly. I wasn't planning on taking forever.
I looked in the mirror of the public bathroom, looking between the mirror and the contact lens that sat on my finger. I furrowed my brows and took a deep breath; I was really going to put this in my eye. I looked at the mirror with determined and slowly began putting the contact lens towards my eye; however I instantly closed my eye as soon as it was close enough. Shaking my head I used my first finger and thumb on my free hand to keep my eye lids apart. I brought the contact lens closer to my eye until it finally came into contact with my eye. I quickly pulled away my finger and closed my eyes tightly shut, blinked a couple of times and looked in the bathroom mirror. I had got the contact in, and now I looked odd with one black eye and one blue eye.
"That wasn't as bad as I thought…"I muttered to myself. I did the same with the other one, deciding it was probably best not to keep Killua and Gon waiting. Once that one was in I stared at the mirror. It looked even stranger having two black eyes instead of my normal blue ones, but if it protected me than it was worth it. I smiled widely to myself once happy with my appearance and picked up the contact lens box before rushing out of the bathroom to meet with Gon and Killua.
I got out the public girls bathroom and found them still waiting over by the wall with all the shopping from earlier. I jogged over to the two, pocketing the contact lens box for now.
"Done!" I announced happily smiling widely at the two. Gon and Killua leaned closely to my face looking at my eyes with wide eyes of their own.
"Wow, that's amazing!" Gon said amazed as Killua nodded his head.
"They look almost natural" Killua said as I nodded my head quickly, smiling widely.
"It's great! So…shall we head off now?" I asked the two, placing my hands behind my back slightly and lacing my fingers together lightly. Gon and Killua nodded their heads and began picking up the shopping bags. I helped them and picked up a couple as well, although they were the lighter ones.
The three of us made our way to the park and got there very quickly. It wasn't far from where the public toilets were. We picked a nice spot in the sun and began setting everything up. With all the food laid out, it looked for more than what three people could normally consume. We sat in a circle around the mounds of food. I sat with my legs either side of me and my hands in my lap. I actually felt a little sick looking at it all, but knowing Gon and Killua they would get through it easily.
"I think we picked up too much…" I said to them trailing off as Gon and Killua looked at me with serious looks on their face.
"You can never have too much!" They said at the same time. I looked at them questionably and nodded my head, sighing slightly with a small smile on my face.
The two looked at the food and grinned widely to themselves.
"Ready, go!" They both shouted at the same time. They began stuffing food into their mouths. I took one of the juice boxes and pierced the silver foil with the straw. I slowly drank it, happy that juice boxes were much less sweeter than juice cans. I furrowed my brows as I watched the two continue to stuff food into their mouths, seeing who could eat the most. Why they were doing this was beyond me, but I wasn't going to join in; I didn't feel like getting sick from food poisoning. Gon looked up and suddenly smiled widely.
"Kurapika!" He shouted, spitting food all over Killua's face much to his disgust. I brought my head up, ripping the straw out from my juice box letting it hang from my mouth and quickly swung it round to where Gon was looking, holding onto my juice box tightly.
His hair had gotten longer and he was wearing a different tabard. This one was the same blue base, but instead had gold trimming much like what he wore when we were really little, the only difference being that it was in two pieces, a top part with no sleeves and a long bottom robe part. His eyes looked sharper as well. He wasn't wearing his contacts either. He didn't look happy to see us at all though. I quickly stood up before Gon dropping my boxed juice and let go of my straw then ran at him throwing myself onto him. I wrapped my arms around his waist tightly and buried my head in his clothing smiling widely to myself. I stayed there, happy to see my brother; but he was acting different; really different. I heard running from behind until the person stopped running.
"This is great." Gon said happily. I felt my brother move slightly at Gon's words.
"Huh?" He asked. I moved my head slightly to look at Gon from over my shoulder slightly, but still keeping my head pretty much buried into my brother's tabard.
"The spiders are dead, so you and Mishka can finally focus on your main goal. You have to find the eyes of your people." Gon said with determination in his voice. I smiled slightly at him, while that was now the main goal I wasn't going to give up my promise on helping him find his dad. It meant I could look for the eyes while doing that.
"Gon…" My brother said trailing off.
Gon nodded his head, keeping the same smile on his face.
"Yep. If there's anything we can do to help-" Gon said before being interrupted by Killua sneaking up behind him then slamming a pie into his face, smirking cat like with a small laugh. The tray fell to the floor revealing an annoyed looking Gon who had his eyes closed with an annoyed smile. Gon ran back over to the food we had still sitting on the floor and picked up another pie, throwing it back at Killua.
"Hey. You did it first. I was getting revenge!" Killua said defensively as he ran away from Gon to dodge any food being thrown at him. I laughed slightly at the two, smiling widely as I continued to hug my brother and kept my face practically buried, save for the part that wasn't so I could watch them.
"But I didn't do it on purpose. You did it deliberately!" Gon retorted back at him as he tried to catch Killua, who was dodging his every move easily. Killua grabbed another pie in his hand. Just as Gon went to catch him he placed his free hand on top of his head and jumped over him, slamming the pie into his face. I felt my brother shift again and looked up slightly to see him smiling a little bit at the two before laughing at their actions. I couldn't help but smile widely myself; it was nicer to see then a sad look. What made me smile even more was feeling a hand on my back bringing me closer to him. That's what made me smile really wide.
I continued to watch Gon and Killua slightly from over my shoulder until I felt a pat on my back making me look up slightly. My brother opened his mouth to say something until I remembered something and jumped away quickly, receiving a confused look from my brother.
"Bend down!" I said to him excitedly. My brother continued to look at my with an eyebrow raised, but did as I asked and leaned forward enough so that he was my height. I quickly wrapped my arms around his shoulders and hugged him tightly.
"That's from Sarah! She's worried about you because she thinks you're working really hard so she wanted me to give you a hug from her." I said to him happily, smiling widely. I felt my brothers' shoulders move slightly in a chuckle, before he hugged me back, returning Sarah's hug. That meant I would need to give her the hug back when I went to visit her again.
My brother soon let go with me doing so at the same time. He stood up straight as I smiled up widely at him.
"You've grown a little taller." My brother commented, making me smile even wider at him and looking at him wide eyed.
"Really?!" I asked him excitedly, and quickly stood next to him. I placed a hand on top of my head and carefully moved it across until the side of my hand hit my brother arm lightly. Once I felt the contact I moved out from under my hand and looked at my hand. It was now just above my brother's elbow. Although it wasn't much it was enough to make me smile widely to myself and jump in the air for joy.
"I grew taller!" I shouted loudly, smiling widely.
"Hello, Leorio?" Kurapika said making me look up to him. He was talking on his mobile, so I just stayed where I was enjoying the moment for as long as I physically could.
We had agreed to meet back at the hotel where me, Gon and Killua stayed. Me, Gon and Killua cleared away the food that they had wasted after much prying away from my brother by Gon and Killua… I didn't even get to eat any of the food I helped buy. Killua saved all the lollies and proceeded to eat one as we walked to the hotel to meet up with Leorio.
The three of us met inside the hotel and stood right in the middle of the lobby in a circle. Killua stood next to my brother and Leorio, who was next to Gon, who was next to me, who was next to my brother. We all smiled widely at each other, glad to see each other all in one group once more. Gon held out his arms, smiling widely at us all.
"It's been a while since we were all together last!" Gon said cheerfully making Leorio nod his head in agreement.
"Yeah." Leorio replied with his hands on his hips.
We began walking back to mine, Gon's and Killua's hotel suite. Gon and Killua stood next to each other and walked in front as I took my place next to my brother's side; determined to stick by him as long as I physically could while we were all together.
"Where's Zepile?" Gon questioned Leorio who walked slightly behind Killua as we made our way to the elevators.
"He wanted to validate our cheque and find more hidden gems to sell. Anyway…" Leorio said, trailing off as we stopped in front of the elevator.
"What?" My brother asked as Leorio pressed a button, calling for the elevator to come down so that we could go up. At least the hotel suite was tidy now from last night; it should have stayed tidy anyway. If Leorio and Zepile made it messy again I would have been so angry.
"You've got this intensity about you… You seem a little more intimidating now." Leorio pointed out, looking at my brother from other his shoulder slightly. My brother seemed unfazed by Leorio's accusations and kept the same gaze he had before.
"Really? You don't seem to have changed much." My brother said to Leorio, making him look at the elevator door in annoyance, a big glare on his face.
"And you're more annoying, too!" Leorio said, my brother remaining unfazed.
The elevator came to our floor with a ding. The door opened, allowing us to walk into the elevator. Leorio pressed the button for our floor on the elevator, allowing the doors to close. It felt like my stomach was left behind on the floor every time the elevator went up. I stood next to my brother and Killua with Gon next to Killua and Leorio next to Gon.
"Oh, I heard that you defeated a member of the Troupe. Having only just learned Nen, how did you manage that?" Leorio mentioned and asked my brother. My brothers eyes narrowed as all of us looked at him. It seemed like a very sore subject for him at the moment, and I couldn't blame him; we spent four years of our lives getting stronger to hunt the Phantom Troupe and they were dead.
"If you're looking for advice on catching the spiders, then stop." My brother said simply and lowly to him.
"That's not the only reason. We want to master Nen. Because we'll definitely need Nen in the future." Gon said to him. My brother looked at Gon as he spoke before looking away to the other wall of the elevator.
"Then you don't want my advice. It won't do you any good." My brother said, making me furrow my brows slightly.
"Why not?" Gon asked him as we continued watching him.
"Your advice is always the best one we can get, so why won't it be any good now?" I asked him, looking up to him myself. My brother stayed silent until he decided to answer the question.
"My power can only be used against the Troupe." He told us, making us look at him wide eyed and shocked. What did big brother mean by that? Couldn't he use his Nen all the time like the rest of us?...What has big brother been doing?
All of us climbed out of the elevator. Big brother wanted to tell us, but only when we were back at our hotel suite. We walked to our hotel suite and once there Killua unlocked the door as he was entrusted with the keys. I looked through the window, it looked grey; it was probably going to rain soon. So much for a nice day. I walked over to the window and climbed onto the seal, opening up the top window. If it rained then the rain would clear the muggy air and it would freshen up the room. I walked back over to the group, sitting next to Gon as me, Gon and Killua sat on the couch opposite of my brother while he sat in the arm chair. Leorio grabbed one of the desk chairs and pulled it up slightly away from my brother so that he could see all of us.
We listened to my brother's story, what he had done and how his Nen worked. But it sounded confusing and I didn't understand it.
"Restraint and vow?" Gon repeated after him.
"Yeah." My brother said calmly. He held up his right hand in front of him as he began talking once more.
"Nen is strongly affected by your mental state. The stronger your resolve, the more power you receive." My brother explained as his hand glowed with Nen. Chains appeared on his hands, leading from his fingers and thumb and up into his sleeve out of sight. I looked at his hand in amazement; it was like what I could do; but less pointy. My brother lowered his hand back into his lap once more, continuing with his explanation.
"However, you also incur a big risk at the same time. In return for Nen power, I vowed to use it against the spiders alone. I established a rule myself." My brother explained to us, only making us respond with looks of interest and confusion. Leorio looked at him questionably as he leaned forward a little, his arms lazily over his knees.
"What's the rule?" Leorio questioned him. My brother looked at Leorio through the corner of his eyes.
"If I use my chains on one who isn't a spider, I will forfeit my life." He said, making all of us gasp in shock.
My eyes went wide at what I heard, why would he make a rule like that?! That was so dangerous! What if someone said they were a spider just to be cool and he used his chains, then big brother would die! I just stared at him shocked as Leorio looked at him angrily.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Leorio asked him, not getting the picture very well. My brother looked forward and down at the coffee table, his gaze remaining stern.
"There is a Nen blade pointed at my heart. If I break the rule, that blade will pierce my heart, killing me. This is the rule that shows my resolve. Restraint and vow. My power is a product of pure hatred. It only works on the spiders." My brother said as he looked at his open palm and clenched his hand tightly into a fist. I could feel Killua tense up next to me, making me look at him from the corner of my eyes slightly before looking back at my brother, frowning widely.
"I'm telling you because I trust you. Don't tell anyone else." My brother said, putting his hand back into his lap once more.
Killua remained tense next to me and then stood up, looking at the ground with a heavy glare on his face.
"Why… Why would you tell us something so important?!" Killua yelled at my brother. Me and Gon looked up at him as my brother looked at him slightly shocked before lowering his head slightly as well as his eye lids and speaking once more.
"I'm not sure. With their leader's death, I must have relaxed." My brother explained to Killua, who was angry at my brother's explanation. Leorio looked at Killua and raised his hands slightly in the air.
"It'll be fine if we keep our mouths shut." Leorio said to him, only receiving a glare from Killua.
"It's too dangerous. One of the surviving members can read minds. If they find out, Kurapika won't be able to defeat them!" Killua said. I furrowed my brows slightly as Gon looked at him wide eyed and unfazed.
"But she didn't learn anything last time." Gon pointed out. Killua's look softened slightly as he looked at Gon over his shoulder.
"That's because we didn't know Kurapika was the chain user." Killua explained making Gon sit up slightly straight. I remained quiet as I listened to what was happening. Leorio leaned forward slightly as he spoke up.
"Then we just have to stay away from them. They've already checked you, so they think you're clean." Leorio said, looking at Killua. Killua looked back at Leorio, his hard glare returning to his face again.
"But there's also a guy call Nobunaga. He's especially dangerous. He's looking for Kurapika, and he's still trying to chase us down." Killua explained.
"Is he aware that you guys know Kurapika?" Leorio questioned us as Killua dropped his hand back to his side.
"No…" Killua said, trailing off. Leorio smiled widely and sat up in his seat, raising his hands to his shoulders.
"Then it's okay! As long as no one around the mind reader knows Kurapika, then you're safe." Leorio explained to us.
I shook my head slightly at Leorio's sentence, making him and my brother look at me in question. I took a deep breathe, before looking at the two.
"They know I have Scarlet eyes. A girl called Chi can do something to people's minds. It makes them see really awful things and that's how she got my eyes to turn Scarlet in the first place." I explained to them, furrowing my brows and frowning widely. Leorio looked at me shocked as my brother looked angry and shocked at the same time. I dropped my gaze to the coffee table in front of us, my top eye lids closing half way.
"I think, we need to stay away from the mind reader, Chi and Nobunaga. They're all really dangerous compared to the other members so far. What Chi can do I wouldn't wish to happen against anyone." I said to them, bringing my head back up and looking at the two determined. My brother shifted his gaze from an angry one to a glare as Leorio thought to himself. Silence filled the room as I looked back between my brother and Leorio. Leorio looked back at me after a few minutes of awkward silence.
"You're wearing contacts right? It's a long shot and probably won't work; but if you keep them in then maybe they'll think it was a trick of light. That's all we can hope for." Leorio explained making me nod my head slightly.
The room fell silent once more. I looked at my brother through the corner of my eyes and couldn't help but flinch slightly. I was stupid and got caught by the spiders and now they knew I had Scarlet eyes. It was my own stupid fault and I should have been more careful and more able to control my fear. But I couldn't keep it secret either, unfortunately telling meant my brother was angry at me, really angry at me. I had never flinched under his gaze before, it was a bit of a scary feeling and I now understood what Leorio meant by my brother seeming more intimidating.
My brother stopped glaring and looked down at the coffee table after a couple of minutes of the awkward silence.
"Well, I've also been in contact with Hisoka." My brother said, changing the subject away from the spiders. I wondered if he even knew that Hisoka was a spider. Leorio looked at him shocked as did Killua and Gon while I watched him carefully, my hands in my lap.
"Hisoka?" Gon questioned my brother.
"He knows that I'm the chain user. We made a pact, but his target, the leader of the spiders, is now dead. So I don't know what he'll do." My brother explained. I furrowed my brows, it was a scary thought of Hisoka running around the place with no target; he would go for anybody just to satisfy his blood lust. It didn't matter who it was.
The rain started falling heavily from the sky. The room smelt fresher and it was lighter. I quickly got up and patted down my dress tabard then walked over to the window. Climbing onto the window seal again I began closing it to keep the heat in the room.
"What do we do?" Killua asked as I walked back over to the group.
"Now that we know Kurapika's secret, it's dangerous to wait around." Killua said, bringing up my brothers secret once more. I walked over to him and took a seat on the arm of the couch, my hands in my lap. I placed a finger over my lips and looked up to Killua.
"We keep it as that, a secret." I said to him. Killua looked at me over his shoulder, his glare once again softening slightly as I dropped my hand back into my lap. Killua looked back at the rest of the group once more, his glare returning hard.
"If Nobunaga captures Gon, Mishka or me again, we probably won't be able to escape. In fact it'll be a death sentence for Mishka." Killua said, making me frown widely as I furrowed my brows. No need to remind me of a very harsh trust.
"But we have Kurapika with us now. We should take them out before they have a chance to recover and escape." Killua explained. My brother brought a hand to his chin and looked down at the coffee table slightly in thought.
"We know where their current base is. If we take too long, they might get away. We need to move fast." Killua said, looking at Gon through the corner of his eyes and smiling slightly, before doing the same with me. Me and Gon looked at him slightly confused and then looked back at my brother who was thinking to himself.
"They could be making an escape as we speak. We don't have time for too much thought." Killua continued, before stopping his words completely.
The room fell silent with nothing but the sound of rain falling from the sky echoing through out it. My brother continued to look at our coffee table in thought, a hand to his chin.
"The two women you mentioned are certainly a threat… But since their leader is dead, I'll do as Gon says, and focus on recovering our brethren's eyes." My brother said, looking up and smiling very slightly at Gon. Gon smiled widely at my brother before he looked over to me, keeping the wide smile on his face.
"What about you, Mishka?" Gon asked me. I looked at him from over my shoulder and turned myself around on the arm of the chair so that my legs dangled over the front.
"I'll look too, it's really important to me as well as to big brother to get back everyone's eyes. But I'm still helping you find your dad, so I'll do both!" I said to him, smiling widely at him. Gon smiled widely back, nodding his head.
"Seriously?!" Killua questioned us, looking between me and my brother.
"Yeah." We both said at the same time with me giving Killua a slight nod of my head.
"You're sure about this?" Killua questioned us as I nodded my head slightly again. My brother kept his neutral gaze on Killua, unaffected by Killua's anger and shouting with a touch of hostility.
"They've made up their minds. We can't force them to change it." Leorio said as Killua dropped the angry glare and hostile way of standing.
He sighed slightly to himself and looked at our coffee table, then sat down on the couch again. I looked at him apologetically, furrowing my brows slightly. I know Killua was really looking forward to catching the spiders, but as big brother said; the leader's dead. There's not much point going after the rest of them, we just have to avoid them; that's all. Maybe in time, they'll forget I'm still alive and won't come after me for my eyes.
My brother looked at Killua apologetically, a small smile on his face.
"Sorry, Killua. Thank you for your valuable information." My brother said to Killua. A phone started going off. My brother took it out of his pocket and looked at who was calling or texting. My brother had one of the fancy touch screen phones that were really expensive to buy. Maybe it was a work phone?
"It's from Hisoka…" My brother said, grabbing all of our interests. My brother read the message, his eyes going wide in anger and pupils turning small in anger, his mouth wide open as he gasped. The room fell silent, only being filled with the sound of the rain.
"Kurapika?" Gon questioned as I looked at my brother worried.
"Big brother?" I asked after Gon when we didn't get a response.
"The dead bodies were fake…" My brother said his voice shaky. I looked at him in shock, they managed to pull off fake bodies?
"Huh? You mean the dead bodies of the Troupe members?" Leorio questioned him as we all looked at my brother in shock with wide eyes.
"Yeah, the dead spiders were fake!" My brother said, his eyes staying wide as they narrowed in anger, his body shaking in absolute anger. He turned his head angrily to Leorio as he spoke, then looked at the ground, dropping his hand with the phone in it.
"It would be possible for a Conjurer to accomplish that. Damn! Why didn't I realize this sooner?" My brother swore angrily and bitterly.
Gon and Killua lowered their heads slightly, a serious look on their faces as I looked at my brother worried. He was so angry, it was intimidating.
"The situation's changed. What now? We're here to help." Killua questioned him, as if expecting for this to happen even though he wasn't. He almost sounded like a game master for a board game.
"Uh-huh." Gon said nodding his head.
"Right." I said, putting my best serious face on as I looked at my brother.
"Yeah." Leorio replied afterwards, nodding his head as well. My brother looked at us before looking at his phone as it began ringing. He pressed a button on the screen and held it up to his ear, looking at it through the corner of his eyes.
"Hello? Melody? What is it?" My brother asked as he fell silent. I wondered who Melody was, her name sounded really pretty; I bet she was really pretty too! Although now was not the time to think about it.
"What? The Troupe comes from Meteor City?" My brother questioned. Meteor City was a rough place, a really rough place. It was basically the worlds dumping grounds for unwanted things and sometimes that even meant people. I only knew about it because Sarah once told us to never go there if we could avoid it.
My brother hung up the phone after his conversation with Melody and explained to us what she had told him.
"The reward has been rescinded? Seriously?" Killua repeated as the three of us looked at each other. That was probably our last chance of ever getting Greed Island. Oh well, no big loss I guess I mean it was only a video game, a really expensive video game that we all wanted to play but a video game no less.
"The Troupe comes from Meteor city." My brother explained. Leorio began thinking to himself and placed a hand onto his chin while looking at the ceiling in thought.
"Makes sense… That explains why their identities are still unknown, and why the cops haven't been able to catch them." Leorio said, rubbing his chin in thought.
"What's Meteor city?" Gon questioned as the three of us looked at my brother for an answer, even though I already know what it was.
"A city populated by people who, as far as society in concerned, don't exist." Leorio explained as I nodded my head agreeing with him and looked over to Gon as well.
"It's like a huge dumping ground for unwanted things. Sometimes, that means people as well." I said to him, furrowing my brows slightly. Meteor city was definitely not a nice place to go to.
"There's a city like that?" Gon questioned me, making me nod my head again. Why would I lie about something as terrible as that?
Leorio leaned forward, keeping the same stern look on his face as he began to explain Meteor city in a little bit more depth.
"Yeah. Officially, it's unpopulated, but it's said that ten million people live there. It began as a dump over one thousand five hundred years ago. People began to live off the garbage that was dumped there. You're allowed to dump anything there. From garbage to weapons, and as Mishka said, even people. And the residents will accept anything left there." Leorio explained to Gon. Gon and Killua both listened with interest about Meteor city.
"I've heard that Meteor city residents share a bond thinner than that between strangers, stronger than that between family." Leorio explained. My brother looked at Gon and Killua, a stern look going over his face as well.
"Actually, there are those who provide Meteor city with weapons and precise metals under the pretext of garbage. That would be the Mafia community." My brother said, catching me off guard with that one. The three of us looked at him wide eyed; I didn't know that the Mafia gave people of Meteor city weapons; that didn't seem like a very good idea.
"What do you mean? But the Mafia is hunting the Troupe!" Gon said, shocked by what he heard. My brother raised his hand slightly as he began explaining some more by what he meant.
"In return, the Mafia recruited people from Meteor city." My brother explained as Leorio took over to explain a little bit more himself.
"People who didn't exist, as far as society was concerned. Perfect for committing crimes. The Troupe destroyed the normally intimate relationship between the Mafia and Meteor city. But the Mafia has decided to prioritize that relationship." Leorio explained, letting us take the words in and letting them sink into our brains. Gon looked away slightly, letting everything sink in.
In a way, I felt kind of bad for the people who lived in Meteor city. They lived rough lives and all they had were each other; it was their very own community. But it didn't sound right with the Mafia getting involved and no matter how much I tried; I just couldn't bring myself to feel sorry for the Phantom Troupe even though they all came from that horrible, horrible city.
