The rain continued to fall from the sky, landing heavily against the roof and window. It was calming for a while but afterwards it just became a massive mood downer and the mood in the room didn't need to become any more down than it already was now. All of us had left mine, Gon's and Killua's hotel suite and went down to the lobby to find out details about the auction, such as if it was still happening and when. Luckily for us, the auction with the game we wanted was still going ahead.
I watched the rain, sitting on the window seal. It didn't look like it was going to clear up any time soon.
"I think we should still go after the spiders." Gon said, breaking the silence between us all and the rain. I looked over to him, frowning widely as him and Killua stood away from the couch.
"No." Killua dead-panned to Gon. I decided to stay quiet, I was going to go catch them after all and I know Gon wanted to help; but now that the reward was gone it would be a waste for those two to go after them. Me on the other hand, I was after them for a different purpose.
"Huh? Why not? You were the one who wanted to capture the Phantom Troupe." Gon said to Killua, furrowing his brows.
"It'd be pointless now." Killua said to him, his hands on his hips like an older sibling telling his younger sibling he couldn't do something.
"But why?" Gon badgered at Killua. I swung like legs slightly from the window seal as I watched the two exchange their conversation.
"With the reward gone, you'd be taking a big risk for nothing." Killua said as I nodded my head agreeing with him.
"Your reason isn't like mine and big brothers. We can find another way to get the money for the game; but they are the only people that killed our clan." I piped up, hopping off the window seal and walking over to the two boys.
"Yeah, but capturing the Phantom Troupe would be worth it!" Gon said to Killua as I stood next to the two. Killua leaned forward and pointed a finger at Gon, making Gon move backwards and look at his finger cross eyed.
"You're getting your priorities mixed up. Have you forgotten why we're here?" Killua asked him. Gon smiled awkwardly with his brows furrowed.
"Greed Island." Gon said as Killua dropped his hand to his side.
"Exactly!" Killua said looking at him with a hard and stern glare.
Killua stood up straight and placed his hand back onto his hip, he's eyes boring onto Gon's face.
"The Southern Piece auction begins in two days. We need to build up our war chest!" Killua explained to him. I looked at him questionably, wondering what Killua meant with war chest. He wasn't thinking of taking on all the mafia people was he?!
"Actually, I have a great plan to get the game." Gon said to him cheerfully, making me look at him in bigger question, an eyebrow raised in confusion. Killua leaned forward slightly, keeping his hands on his hips.
"What's your plan?" He asked him as we both watched Gon carefully; wondering the same thing. Gon thought for a second, placing a finger onto his chin and looked at the ceiling before looking back at Killua and pointed at him; a large smile on his face.
"It's a secret right now!" Gon said to him happily. Killua grabbed Gon and placed him into a tight head lock. I looked at the two shocked and quickly made my way behind Killua and grabbed his arm around Gon's head, trying to pry it off.
"Stop being coy, and spit it out…" Killua said trailing off.
"He can't if you strangle him to death!" I spoke up, closing my eyes tightly as I pulled hard on Killua's arm to get Gon free.
"You're strangling me! I'm going to die!" Gon said, tapping Killua's shoulder hard to grab his attention.
"You're not allowed to die!" I said giving a heavy pull on Killua's arm.
Killua let go of Gon, allowing him to stand up straight once more. I dropped Killua's arm as Gon took deep breathes to fill his lungs once more. Once Gon was full of air again he looked at Killua and me with a wide smile as if nothing happened.
"Anyway, I'll work something out for the game. So for now, let's stick to the Troupe." Gon said to us, making me drop my eyelids as I looked him slightly annoyed.
"You won't give up on that will you?" I asked him as Gon shook his head, smiling widely at me.
"We did say we'd help you back on Whale Island." Gon pointed out to me, making me sigh slightly with my eyes closed and brows furrowed.
"Yeah I guess you did." I muttered quietly. Killua looked at Gon highly annoyed, his hands back on his hips once more.
"Do you really have a plan?" Killua asked him annoyed.
"Yeah, but it's not guaranteed to work." Gon said, making me look at him questionably. That sounded very risky. Killua pointed at him, removing his hand from his hip.
"How likely is it to work?" Killua asked him, keeping the annoyed look on his face. Gon look at him questionably, confused about his question.
"What percentage do you think your plan has of working?" Killua broke down for Gon. Gon scratched his chin as he looked up to the ceiling once more, his face showing concentration and thought.
"Seventy percent." Gon said to us. Killua looked at his shocked as I looked at him wide eyed. He really believed his plan would work that well?!
"Seventy?!" Killua shouted at him in shock.
"M-Maybe more like sixty…" Gon said, making Killua looked at him annoyed again as I sighed slightly and laced my fingers slightly behind my back.
Gon stood smiling widely at the both of us; I couldn't help but smile back slightly. It was nicer seeing the happy Gon then the really serious Gon that had been around for a little while now.
"Okay, have it your way. I'll let you handle the game. But we can't deal with the Troupe alone. We only move if Kurapika helps us." Killua explained as he stood up straight with his hands back on his hips. Gon frowned slightly and nodded his head in agreement. That was fine for them; but I was going to help my brother regardless if he wanted us to or not. We made a promise a long time ago and I was going to stick to it no matter what.
The three of us over heard my brother talking, although we only heard the last part as he was looking at Leorio.
"I never had help from the Mafia." My brother said to Leorio, indicating about his last fight between him and that guy who was nicknamed Uvo. Leorio looked at him shocked and slightly afraid, I knew my brother was strong; but he was a lot stronger now than ever before. Me, Gon and Killua quickly jogged over to my brother and Leorio. We looked up to him seriously as we stopped in front of him.
"Kurapika, let us help. We're willing to do anything." Gon said to him as he looked down at us. Killua looked at Gon annoyed through the corner of his eyes as I looked up to my brother determined to help him; even if he didn't want it.
"The reward was rescinded." He pointed out to Gon.
"I know. I want to stop the Phantom Troupe. That hasn't changed." Gon explained to him as Killua looked back at my brother, keeping the annoyed look on his face. My brother looked over at me slightly as I looked up at him with a serious look and determination.
"I promised I would help you get the Phantom Troupe a long time ago and I plan to stick to it." I said to him, keeping my own ground against my brother's words. He looked back at the three of us, a stern gaze over his face.
"You'd be risking your lives." He said to us. Me and Gon kept our own stern looked at my brother as Killua continued looking annoyed and bored. Silence grew between us as we stared up at my brother.
"Okay, let's put together a plan." My brother said to us, defeat evident in his voice.
"Uh-huh." Me and Gon said together, nodding our heads.
We walked over to a couple of couches in the lobby. I took a seat between Gon and Killua, my hands in my lap as Leorio sat next to my brother on the other couch.
"First, we'll need someone to watch their base, and to provide updates." My brother explained, resting his own hands in his lap. Killua placed his hand up and closed his eyes.
"I can do that." Killua said and dropped his hand once more back onto the couch between his legs.
"The target is the woman named Pakunoda. You can ignore everyone else." My brother explained.
"Okay." Killua said simply after him. My brother's eyes sharpened as he looked at Killua.
"Be very careful." He told him sternly. Killua smiled slightly as he looked at my brother.
"Don't worry, I won't push my luck." Killua said to him. My brother's look softened as he carried on explained the plan. Leorio leaned an arm on the back of the couch, his elbow resting on top with the rest of the arm lazily dangling in the air.
"I'll need a driver to accompany me. Leorio, could you handle that" My brother asked, looking at Leorio over his shoulder. Leorio looked at my brother in shock and jumped slightly on the seat, looking at him wide eyed.
"Huh? Y-Yeah…" He said uncertainly, pushing up his glasses with his two first fingers. Killua leaned forward in the seat, smiling widely at Leorio as Gon gave him a small smile. I looked at Leorio slightly confused; he could drink but couldn't drive? Or maybe he was scared…he looked more scared than unconfident in his abilities.
"It'll be fine. You'll be safe if you're with Kurapika." Killua said to him cheerfully. Leorio turned his attention to Killua, glaring at him slightly.
"Hey, Killua… Don't make it sound like I was scared or something!" Leorio said to him, annoyed by Killua's attitude.
Me and Gon turned out attention back to my brother, a questioning look over both our faces.
"Kurapika, what about me and Mishka?" Gon asked him. My brother looked at us, a stern look on his face.
"I need you to act as a decoy, to throw the enemy off." My brother said as Gon nodded his head.
"Got it." Gon said nodding his head. My brother's look became harder and sterner as he looked at me.
"You're coming with me and Leorio." My brother dead-panned. I looked at him slightly wide-eyed, wondering the reason.
"Okay, but why?" I asked him, looking at him confused.
"They know you have Scarlet eyes, which means you'll be more of a distraction for Gon and Killua to look out for than help. If you're with me and Leorio I can keep an eye on you better." My brother explained. I looked at him slightly angrily. Although his reason was sound, I didn't like it and if anything it made me feel like a huge child.
"I want to act as decoy with Gon. There are a lot of members; if I act as decoy at least half of them will come after me which will help Gon a lot." I said to him, voicing my point. My brother looked at me sternly, he's eyes sharpening slightly.
"I said no and that's final." My brother said. I glared at him, angry with the way he was treating me; as if I was still a really little kid.
"You have to stop treating me like a really little kid! I'm not the same little kid that always needed protecting, Kurapika!" I said to my brother, my glare hardening as I looked up to him. My brother looked at me slightly shocked by how I said my words, I rarely called him by his name; I always said big brother. Gon, Killua and Leorio looked at me wide eyed themselves at my words, having knowing me as always calling him big brother.
"I know I can act as a decoy and help Gon, and I know I can protect myself; but you'll never see for yourself unless you let me do it. I'll be really careful and always keep my distance from them; all I'm asking is that you let me try." I said to him, looking at him sternly.
Kurapika continued to look at me, his eyes still slightly wide. He dropped his surprised look and instead replaced it with the stern look he had before when he was explaining the plan to us.
"Fine. You and Gon can act as decoys. You must look out for each other." My brother said as the both of us nodded our heads, Gon swapping his surprised look for his determined look once more. Killua suddenly jumped in his seat and looked at Kurapika surprised.
"Hold on! Isn't that a dangerous role? They'll have to face the Troupe members again!" Killua said as Kurapika looked at him, turning his head away from me and Gon.
"That depends on our strategy." Kurapika explained. Killua's surprised look turned to one of question as he shifted in his seat slightly.
"Strategy? What strategy will we use?" Killua repeated after him and then questioned.
"A very simple one. While the enemy is occupied with Gon and…..Mishka, I'll capture Pakunoda and escape by car." Kurapika explained. Killua leaned forward, lazily resting his arms over his knees.
"That sounds a little shaky…" Killua said as the rest of us kept quiet.
"There are too many uncertainties for me to devise a concrete plan." Kurapika said. He looked at me and Gon, keeping the stern look on his face.
"I'll let Gon and Mishka decide their strategy. But I'll need you two to draw their attention for at least half a second… A full second if possible." Kurapika said. Me and Gon looked at him determined.
"One second, then?" Gon asked him.
"Yeah." Kurapika said simply back to us.
Me and Gon looked at each other through the corner of our eyes, trying to think of somehow we could distract them for that one second, or if we even could. We know they'd be interested if my eyes are Scarlet, but would that even be long enough? Would they pay attention long enough to me?
"Gon, Mishka." Kurapika said making me and Gon look at him.
"You two are the key. Can you handle it?" Kurapika asked us, although the question was more pointed at me. I knew he was trying to get my to change my mind through hard honesty, but I wasn't going to change my mind; I was going to help Gon and stay as decoy.
"I'm not sure. I'll need to think about it." Gon said as Kurapika looked at me for an answer.
"I'll think with Gon to see if we can handle it." I said to him, keeping the stern look on my face. Kurapika looked up at the clock on the hotel wall, his stern gaze never leaving his face.
"We have six hours. If the auction proceeds as scheduled, the spiders will make their move before then." Kurapika said, looking back at us.
Killua looked at the two of us through the corner of his eyes and then looked back Kurapika, keeping his arms lazily over his knees as he leaned his weight onto them,
"Hey, why are you accepting our help now?" Killua asked him. Kurapika looked at all three of us.
"Because the risk I'm taking has increased. I have to eliminate Pakunoda immediately. No matter the cost." Kurapika said to us. I know it's important to him; but I just wished my brother would stop putting his life on the line all the time to kill the spiders. I had a huge grudge against them myself, I even saw the damage first hand, but he taught me when something was okay to risk your life for and when something was not…was it bad to think that this was that "something was not"?
Silence fell around all of us. Killua gasped slightly at Kurapika's explanation as Leorio looked at him wary. Gon looked at him sternly once more.
"Kurapika, put a Nen blade in me!" Gon said pointing to his heart. I looked at Gon shocked and wide eyed, why would Gon even ask for that?! Kurapika looked at him shocked himself as did Killua and Leorio.
"A Nen blade?" Killua questioned him. Leorio leaned forward and raised his hand slightly.
"Gon, weren't you listening? Kurapika will die if he attacks anyone who isn't a Troupe member!" Leorio shouted. Kurapika glared at Leorio and turned his head to face him.
"Keep your voice down!" Kurapika shouted at him, making Leorio look at him shocked. Gon pointed at Kurapika, removing his finger from where his own heart was.
"Then why is there a Nen blade in Kurapika's chest? Kurapika isn't a member of the Troupe." Gon said. What he said made sense. I looked at my brother questionably as Killua and Leorio looked at him surprised and shocked, questions filling all our minds. Kurapika looked down at the coffee table between us.
"What I'm about to tell you will increase my risk further." Kurapika said. Leorio stood up and shoved his hands into his pockets.
"Okay." Leorio said simply and walked away from his seat. He looked behind his shoulder slightly, looking back at Killua.
"Hey, Killua, Mishka…" Leorio said to Killua, looking between him and me. Killua looked at Gon. He nodded his head. Killua closed his eyes and pushed himself up off his seat, digging his hands into his pockets. I stayed where I was as Leorio looked at me.
"I'm staying." I said to him flatly, looking at him from the corner of my eyes. Leorio nodded his head as Killua joined him. While Gon wanted to know about pointing a Nen blade at his heart, I wanted to know why my brother was putting so much pressure onto himself to keep everything to himself.
We watched the two walk away before looking back at each other. Me and Gon looked at Kurapika, our faces showing interest and curiosity.
"I'll start with the conclusion. It is indeed possible." Kurapika said to us. He lifted his hands to his chest, his right one closed into a fist and his left hovering over the top of it. His hands glowed with Nen as he summoned his chains.
"The five chains have different abilities. Two of the chains are for attacking spiders." Kurapika explained to us as he showed us his hand from the front. He moved his fingers slightly, showing us his first fingers more clearly.
"The first is Chain Jail. The binded target is forced into a state of Zetsu. This power is for capturing the spiders. And this is my Judgement Chain." Kurapika said to us, pulling the chain that was attached to his little finger.
"I point a blade at the target's heart, then state rules that they must follow. If a rule is broken, the target dies. As you've figured out, I pointed a blade at my own heart. At first, I devised the rule that I would die if I attacked anyone besides a spider with my chains, and I set a blade pointed to myself." Kurapika explained to us, as we watched him continuing to pull against the chain on his little finger, looking at it as he explained.
"But that was when I realized something. Would using them on myself be considered a violation of that rule?" Kurapika explained to us, just as lightening roared through the sky, flashing into the room.
The rain got heavier as thunder clapped in the sky. Me and Gon continued to watch Kurapika closely who continued to pull at the chain.
"It was possible I would be an exception, but I didn't know for sure. That's why I adjusted the rule. I can also use Chain Jail against the spiders." Kurapika said looking at us, closing his hand into a fist once more. He held up his little finger again as he pulled on the chain attached to it, looking at it once more.
"Meaning that I can use my Judgement Chain on those who aren't spiders." Kurapika said to us. Gon hunched his shoulders slightly as we continued to look and watch him closely, a wide frown forming on my face; he was placing so much pressure on himself and in a way it wasn't fair for him to do so. Kurapika dropped his hands back into his lap as he looked at us again.
"But first, a condition must be met." Kurapika finished off.
"A condition?" Gon repeated after him as I stayed quiet. Kurapika's eyes began turning Scarlet as he began talking, explaining about his chains once more. I looked at him wide eyed, was he doing that willingly now? Or was he really good at hiding his emotions now? Even better than before?
"This chain can only be used when my eyes are Scarlet." Kurapika said as Gon's eyes went wide in surprise.
"You can make your eyes scarlet now?" Gon questioned him as we continued to look at him in surprise.
"I had to work at it. It took a while before I could deliberately turn them scarlet." Kurapika explained to us as we looked at him, our mouths slightly agape.
Kurapika held his hand out, showing us the front once more.
"I mastered the chain in my middle finger by vowing to never release this chain, and to always risk death. The power in my pinky was resolved by my unique nature. When my eyes are scarlet, I become a Specialist. And I can use any ability I've learned at full strength." Kurapika explained to us as he opened up his hand and turned it over, staring into the palm. Me and Gon looked at him seriously once more, bringing our eyes away from his hand and to his face, his eyes staying scarlet.
"I'm not sure what that means, but you should be able to use your Nen blade on me, right?" Gon asked him. Kurapika snapped his head up and looked at Gon, his eyes staying scarlet.
"Yes." He said simply. Gon pointed at his heart once more.
"Go ahead. You can choose the rule to set." Gon said to him. I looked at Kurapika sternly myself, my hands in my lap.
"Me as well." I said to him, making both of them look at me shocked. Kurapika's eyes went slightly wide at my request to have a Nen blade at my own heart; however I kept the stern look on my face. I thought about what to say next and eventually managed to find something.
"I'm a Conjurer, but I don't know what my limitations are. If I have this, it'll make me think twice about what I do." I said to him, narrowing my eyes slightly as I spoke. If anything, it would also give me an idea on what to set my own rules for my wires to be.
We stared at each other as silence filled the room, before being broken by Kurapika's voice.
"I accept your resolve." Kurapika said as he brought up his hands, his eyes turning stern once more. Killua and Leorio suddenly came up from behind the couch. Killua looked at him questionably as Kurapika jumped slightly in his seat.
"Can you make four of those blades?" Killua asked with curiosity. Leorio smiled widely at him as he looked down at him.
"You can rescind the rule once our mission is over, right?" Leorio asked. Gon looked surprised as did I. We both stared at Killua and Leorio who stood behind the couch behind Kurapika.
"Killua! Leorio!" Gon said surprised as I continued to stare at them wide eyed. Leorio and Killua looked at each other, the two smiling widely.
"We had a little talk. And since we're working together…" Leorio said, trailing off on his sentence.
"We should share the same fate." Killua said as Kurapika went back to his stern expression.
"What do you say?" Leorio and Killua questioned at the same time. The room fell silent as we waited for Kurapika's answer. Kurapika closed his eyes as he bowed his head slightly.
"The answer to both questions is yes. But you four are wholly mistaken." Kurapika said as he held his hand to his chest once more, hovering his left over it as they glowed with Nen.
"I never had any intention of using my blade on you guys." Kurapika said as the chains disappeared from his hand. Gon leaned forward, putting his hand between his legs as he held onto the couch. I kept my hands rested in my lap as I watched my brother.
"Then why endanger yourself by telling us your secret?" Gon asked him.
"Gon, I wanted… No, I wanted to thank all of you for your resolve." Kurapika said to us, turning his stern look into a genuine smile; one I missed seeing from him.
"Even if one of you ends up revealing my secret, I will have no regrets." He said to us as he slumped over slightly, closing his eyes and keeping the smile on his face.
"I have good friends and a good sister…" Kurapika said, trailing off at the end of his sentence. I couldn't help but smile widely at the compliment from him; knowing that he thought I was good, even though I was probably acting bratty earlier, it was nice to hear from him. Killua looked away embarrassed as Leorio smiled, happy for the compliment as well. Gon looked at Kurapika confused, his brows furrowed in confusion.
"That's not fair, Kurapika. You're actually putting more pressure on us this way." Gon said, smiling at him with his brows furrowed. Kurapika opened his eyes and looked up at us, keeping the smile on his face.
"That was my goal." Kurapika said, making Gon smile widely at him as he closed his eyes and brought his head up.
"Oh, I get it now!" Gon said, laughing happily to himself.
Kurapika smiled widely at Gon as Killua looked annoyed at Kurapika with an annoyed smile. Kurapika then looked up at Killua over his shoulder, making Killua look away.
"Well, I'll head out, then. Can't waste any time." Killua said, digging his hands into his pockets as he walked away from us. Gon turned around looking over the side of the seat as I quickly turned around and sat up on my knees watching Killua walk away. Gon waved at him as he walked away.
"Be careful, Killua!" Me and Gon shouted over to him. Killua looked at us from over his shoulder, a smile on his face as he continued walking.
"Yeah, I got this." Killua said to us. He turned his head forward once more to see where he was going as he walked away and out of the hotel building.
The rain continued to pour as Killua walked out of the building. I turned around, sitting properly on the seat once more. I looked at everybody, my eyes meeting Kurapika's.
"You should you're a Conjurer. What can you do?" He asked me sternly, his eyes narrowing slightly. I blinked a couple of times and then held out my arm out stretched in front of me, my fingers wide apart. I concentrated my Nen, forming the barbed wire. It curled around my arm and up inside my sleeve, ending at my elbow. It wrapped about my hand several times, a small bit dangling down that I could only assume I could make longer when need be. Leorio looked at it shocked as Kurapika just stared, taking in as much detail as possible.
"It doesn't hurt though." I said to him, bringing his attention back to my face. Silence filled the air as I thought back to all the times they did hurt, what exactly was I thinking of? I remembered I was thinking about the spiders and psychically hurting them, but would that work with other people. I ran through all the people I had met, would I actually want to hurt any of them? My mind landed on Kai. I took a deep breath, and thought about him, but with ill intent. My arm began stinging, making me. It only made Leorio and Kurapika look at my arm even more wide eyed then before.
"If I think of someone with ill intent it begins hurting a lot." I explained to him, closing an eye as I endured the stinging sensation in my arm, wrist and hand. I stopped thinking about Kai and stopped concentrating my Nen, hot stinging and barbed wire disappearing. All that was left was the dull stinging sensation in my arm, wrist and hand where the wire had been.
Leorio continued to look at my arm before looking at me in shock.
"That seems dangerous." He pointed out as I nodded my head.
"But I'm not sure what it means or why it does that." I said to him, dropping my hand back into my lap. Kurapika had a look of thought about him, a hand placed on his chin as he stared at the coffee table before finally looking back at me.
"That is most likely your limitation. One that you set mentally deep within your mind." Kurapika said, making the three of us look at him questionably.
"By your nature you don't like hurting people, so thinking about people with ill intent is very surprising. Subconsciously, this made your mind set a rule that the wires can only hurt people, as long as you feel their pain as well at the same time. This means if you wish to use them against someone with ill intent of your own, you must be willing to put yourself through the pain first." Kurapika explained to us. I let the words sink in as I stared at him. Is that what it meant? If I wanted to use them, I had to be willing to hurt myself as well? In a way, I guess I could live with that; I didn't like hurting people it just wasn't something I could do. However, on my journey so far, I found myself more and more willing to do so if I had to.
"This could also mean if you wish to kill someone, you will die with them, sharing their fate and pain." Kurapika finished off, looking at me with sharp and narrow eyes.
I looked at him shocked and surprised, before looking back down at my arm once more, my eyes wide, and the room falling silent. If I wished to kill someone, I would die to and it was all made subconsciously. I couldn't help but wonder, what made my mind set that kind of rule? Was it that deep down, somewhere deep down, I wanted to share others peoples pain, or was it because I felt like no one should be put through pain in the first place and if I was going to do it, I had to feel it to?
