When we got back from the races everyone broke off and went in different directions. I escaped to mine and Dom' room with the laptop. I I couldn't stop thinking about the woman with Hobbs, Elena. I looked her up and learned everything I could about here. I even found out where she lived.
The warehouse was quiet now; everyone most likely asleep. I slipped out of bed and pulled on some jeans before grabbing my phone. "Where are you going?" Dom asked. I looked up and saw him standing in the doorway with his arms crossed looking confused. "What's wrong?" He walked towards me and took the phone out of my hand.
"The girl with Hobbs tonight, Elena, she had your necklace." I said, taking my phone back and shoving it into the pocket of my jeans. "I found out where she lives and I'm going to go get it back." I said, moving around him.
Dom reached out and grabbed my arm, pulling me back to his chest. "It's too dangerous. You're not going alone." He said, shaking his head. "We're in the favelas...not to mention Reyes..."
"It's dark and she doesn't live far." I replied. "I'll be back within an hour and I'll have my phone with me the entire time." I paused and looked up at him. "Letty and I gave you that necklace...it means something to me. It should mean something for you too..."
"It does." He nodded, brushing a piece of hair behind my ear. "Let me go with you." He said, pulling me closer to him. "I'm not letting you go alone. Not a chance in hell."
I sighed and looked up at him. "I trust you." I stated, pulling away from him. "It's time for you to trust me."
After convincing Dom, I walked to Elena's house. I made sure to use back pathways and stayed off the streets and side walks so no one would see me. I broke in through a kitchen window and waited. About fifteen minutes later I heard the door unlock and Elena walk in. Switching on the light and removing her gun from its holster she sighed. I stepped forward and the floor board creaked, making Elena dive for her gun. I got to her first, grabbing her hand and pushing her back against the wall and covering her mouth.
After a couple seconds I removed my hand, grabbed the necklace and pulled it off her neck. I backed away and turned around but Elena's voice stopped me. "I don't understand. Why come here?" She asked. "Why risk it all for twenty dollars worth of silver?"
I turned my head slightly. "Because it's worth it." I answered. This piece of sliver held so many memories I could count them all if I tried. The most important one being Letty. This necklace was one of the only thing Dom and I had left of her and there was no way in hell I was letting in go.
"You should run, you know? You and your team." Elena stated, taking a couple steps towards me. "Hobbs will find have every reason to leave...why stay?" I took a moment to contemplate my answer, I looked up and noticed a picture of a man on her wall. I turned towards he and nodded my head towards it.
"Why do you?" I asked.
She gazed at the photo and her eyes hardened before letting out a breath. "My husband was a good police officer. An honest man. We both grew up here. Two years ago he was murdered in the street...right outside our door. Reyes owns this favela now. He gives things to people but everything had a price. The people here need a new start, they need to be free." I watched her and believe everything that was coming out of her mouth. "You didn't kill those men in the train, did you?"
"Now, why would you believe anything I would tell you?" I questioned before moving towards the front door. I had felt my phone vibrate a couple time during my conversation with Elena and I knew it was Dom.
"Hey." She called running after me. "Dom. Is he that important to you that you would risk everything for him. Your life included?" She asked, starting at him. "You love him that much?"
I smirked and looked at her. "I never thought anyone would know how much." I stated, nodding my head. "But you do."
I felt like my arms were going to fall off. It didn't help that they were covered in bruises from my fathers drunken rampage last night. Mrs. Hanson had let me stay late with her to earn a little more and prolong me from going home. I set the huge flower pot down in the back room and straightened up, stretching my arms over my head. I heard a gasp from behind me and I quickly spun around. Mrs. Hanson was standing there, hand over her mouth, looking at me with clear shock.
"Oh, my word." She breathed, taking a couple steps closer to me. "Where did you get those?" My whole body froze when I realized what she was talking about. When I stretched, my top must have rode up and given her a clear view of my fresh bruises from last night that covered most of my stomach and ribs.
I took a few steps back, trying to keep my distance from her. "It's not what it looks like." I said, holding up my hands. "I tripped and accidentally fell down our staircase. It was accident, that's all I swear."
"Katherine, honey." She reached out her hand and tried to grab me but I shook my head, trying to stop my tears from falling. "Did your father do this to you?" She asked, finally grabbing my hand. Mrs. Henson carefully lifted up my shirt slightly, running her hands over the black and blue marks. "We need to call the police."
"No, no. God please no." I cried shaking my head, trying to pull away from her. "You don't understand. You don't know what he'll do to me. Please, you can't. Please."
"Oh, my sweet girl." She said, tearing up. "It's going to be okay. I'll take care of you. I promise. We need to call the police first, though." I let out a long shaky breath and looked up at her through blurry eyes. I never once even contemplated telling anyone about what my father did to me but now suddenly I was reconsidering. I nodded hesitantly and fell into her, finally letting my emotions take over.
I watched as my father was taken out of our house in hand cuffs. He found me in the crowed and glared, shaking his head. Mrs. Henson, who was standing next to me held my hand tightly as she looked at the scene in front of her. My whole life was crumbling but for some reason I felt happy. Relived.
Later that night Mrs. Henson told me I was going to stay at her house until further notice. She left me to grab a few things from home while she went back to her house to set stuff up for me. I was packing my bag as fast as possible; just wanting to get as far away from this hell hole as I could. Just as I finished gathering my things I heard the door slam shut. Fear flooded my body but I reminded myself that it must be Mrs. Henson. My father was in jail and couldn't get out right?
Wrong.
I slung my bag over my shoulder and walked out of my room. When I reached to kitchen I stopped breathing. He was standing in front of the sink, his back to me. I could tell his tense shoulders that he was mad. No, not mad. Pissed. I started to back up quietly, trying to make it out without him noticing but that all came crashing down when I backed into the coffee table.
He straightened up and I heard him blew out a breath. My bottom lip started trembling, I couldn't help it. He slowly turned around, his eyes burning with hate. I opened my mouth to say something. Anything. Just try to explain what happened and that it wasn't my fault that she saw my bruises.
"I have friends at the police station, Katherine." He stated in a terrifyingly calm tone. "They got the charges dropped against me you stupid, little bitch." Dad took slow steps towards me, like a predator stalking its helpless prey. "I told you a long time ago what would happen if you even opened your fat mouth." I couldn't stop myself from looking to the front door. Praying Mrs. Henson would come and save me but she never did. Not in time at least.
I woke up with a large gasp, sitting up in bed. He wasn't there anymore. 'It was just me' I repeated over and over. I pulled the covers off and stood up, glancing at the clock. I had been sleeping for most of the day. I grabbed a pair of jeans and a shirt and threw them on, leaving the room.
Dom caught me walking towards him and smirked. "She's alive." He commented, pulling me into his arms. "You okay?" He asked. I knew he could tell I wasn't but I nodded anyway. I leaned up and kissed him, needing to get the dream out of my head. Dom kissed my back, bringing his hand up to cup the side of my face.
A throat cleared behind us and I laughed, pulling back. I turned around and saw Han standing there with his arms crossed. "Dom, windows to small, man." He stated, gesturing back to the car. "The only way we're going to beat the cameras is with invisible cars."
Dom nodded and smirked, looking at Han. "And I know just where to get them." He said, pulling away from me. "Lets take a ride boys."
"I'm going with you." I stated, following him as he walked towards the car. "I need to get out of here and get some fresh air." Dom simply nodded and climbed into the front. Gisele volunteered to drive Dom, Brian, Rome, Tej and I to the police station. Dom had thought the equivalent of an invisible car was, of course, a police car. I was siting in the front seat, waiting until Gisele slowed enough for me to climb out my window and onto the roof before jumping the fence and into the yard.
We hot wired four police cars and drove out of the yard without a problem. I sat in the front seat next to Dom as we pulled up to a read light. I glanced to my left and saw Brian looking around the interior of his squad. "It's been a while since I've been behind the wheel of one of these." He stated, smiling at Dom and I.
"First time I've ever been in the front seat." Dom replied, smirked over at him. I laughed and leaned back in my seat. I couldn't deny that I had gotten a couple calls during the night so I could bail Dom out of whatever stupid shit he had done. But that was before everything went down and his face started showing up on wanted posters.
Tej and Rome pulled up next to us in identical police cars. I turned my head to look at them and smiled. "Hey Rome, what took you so long?" Brain called, leaning out his window. "I thought for sure you'd be showing up with some chrome spinners or something."
Rome laughed sarcastically before turning to glare at Brian. "Ha, ha, real funny." I laughed and shook my head. Roman raised the car radio and smirked. "I got a hundred thousand saying I can take you all in the next quarter mile."
Brian scoffed and nodded sarcastically. "Yeah, your broke ass has got a hundred grand?" He laughed, shaking his head at Rome who just glared unrelentingly. I could help the grin the snuck across my face after watching their exchange.
"We pull off this job I will." Roman replied, raising a challenging eyebrow. "The next two lights. Hundred thousand." I glanced at Dom and smirked, nodding my head. It sounded like fun.
"We don't pull this job off we're probably dead anyway." Han commented, looking from side to side. "Lets make it a million." He shrugged.
Brian nodded and looked ahead. "I like that." He said. "Alright, a million dollar quarter mile." I glanced over at him and smirked, shaking my head slightly. "What do you say Dom, you up for it?" He asked.
Dom looked up and smiled. "Are we talking or are we racing?" He replied, revving the engine. Brian nodded and smirked to himself, looking ahead.
"Just don't cheat this time." Brian commented, gripping the wheel. I laughed and rolled my window up, looking over at Han and Rome and sticking out my tongue.
Dom grinned and shook his head. "You got to let that go." He replied to Brian's comment while watching the street light above us, waiting for it to turn green. I counted the seconds in my mind as we waiting for the light to change. I was almost bouncing in my seat, filled with anticipation. I guess Rome has better eyes than all of us because he stepped on the gas at least two seconds before the light actually changed. He switched on the police cars red and blue lights and zoomed ahead us the rest of us.
All four of us weaved though the parked cars and increased our speed. The road was dead, not a living person in sight which I was thankful for. Dom switched gears and we pulled ahead. "Don't make it too easy boys." I said, looking over my shoulder at them. Brian slipped in next to us, we were neck and neck as we neared the set finish line. I touched Dom's knee and smiled at him, nodding my head. He knew exactly what I was thinking. He smirked before reaching down and letting off the throttle a little, letting Brian finish first.
We didn't bother stopping until we got back to the warehouse. I climbed out of the car and smirked when I saw Brian grinning like an idiot. "Good race O'Connor." Dom nodded, walking past them. I squeezed his hand and pulled away leaning against Brian's car.
"Thanks Dom." Brian smiled widely, turning back to Rome, Han and I. "Do you know how long I've been waiting for that shit?" He asked, slapping Romans hand and pulling him into a bro hug.
Han rolled his eyes and scoffed. I knew he wasn't just going to let Brian have it. He had to blow it all up. "I told you he didn't see it." He commented, narrowing his eyes at me. I just smirked and kept my mouth shut. Brian looked even more confused, shaking he head.
"The man right there..." Rome pointing over to Dom, who was working on charger. "He let off the throttle at the line. You didn't do nothing. He let you win." Roman said before walking away. "Ask Katie." He called over his shoulder.
"Bullshit." Brian stated shaking his head, a smile still on his face. He turned to face me and the smile slipped off his face when he noticed my amused look. "It's bullshit, right Katie?" He asked, almost childlike. I simply shrugged and pushed myself off the car before heading towards the rest of the guys. "Katie."
Hey everyone, I'm so sorry so the long wait. I really have no excuse except for I kind of had writer block. But my best friend told me to re watch the Fast and Furious movie to gain some more inspiration and it worked. So here it is and I hope you like it. Please leave a review and tell me what you thought :)
