Chapter 363

Willow and her grandfather David were observing Passover. During this time they were also discussing Willow going to college. Willow had applied to many colleges, she'd been accepted to Princeton, Yale, and was still waiting to hear from Harvard. But destite those acceptances from Ivy league schools Willow was considering going to U.C. Sunnydale. David hoped Willow wasn't staying local because of him. He didn't want his granddaughter to give up Princeton to take care of him. David didn't want to be a burden to his only remaining family. If Willow stayed because of Tara, at least he wouldn't blame himself. As they talked about college their doorbell rang. As David answered it he remembered Auschwitz. He checked his arm, made sure the number was still there. People today forgot that the Nazies gave numbers to those that were fit enough to work. Those without numbers were murdered the first day. Sometimes David woke up in the middle of the night, terrified when he couldn't see the number right away. When Auschwitz was liberated David remembered an American soldier named Lawson. This all came back to David because Lawson was standing outside. Not too unusual that Lawson could still be alive after 70 years, David Rosenberg was alive. But what seemed impossible to believe was that Lawson looked exactly the same as that day. Being a Sunnydale resident David knew better than to invite Lawson inside.
