Chapter 394

Lawson had lived a long life. Not too long for a vampire, but much longer than he'd once thought. He'd joined the navy during world war II, had heard that the nazies were doing and wanted to stop them. Lawson's crew had to work with Angel to steal German technology. This technology would help American ships outsink German ships. But Lawson had been wounded, everyone else who knew how to repair their submarine was dead. In order to save his crew and bring the stolen data home Lawson asked Angel to make him into a vampire. Although he had immortality, his un-life offerred no purpose. Thus Lawson continued to serve the American government covertly. First in their continuing fight against the nazies, then against the communists, and now against radical muslim groups. Because Lawson had no conscience or remorse he had little problem using his particular talents against civilians. In Lawson's long life he found that his employers became increasingly uneasy with his methods. There were other changes. The American government went from trying to completely destroy nazism, to a cold war with limited battles against the communists, to fighting with muslims against muslims while making it clear that their enemy wasn't Islam. The whole thing was becoming more and more confusing for Lawson. But helping to fight the Scourge, protecting other half-breeds, Lawson felt almost human again. President Wilkins ordered Lawson to help rescue Faith. This rescue mission was successful. The team got Faith, killed Trask. But before Trask died he activated the Beacon. Lawson fought Trask's team, told his men to take Faith. He would buy them time to escape. Lawson knew he would not survive, but his mission would be completed. Lawson saw the light. Fitting for killing an evil soulless monster like him. But he knew that he would at least die on his own terms.
