Barshon and the Groosalag negotiated a plan. Groo would show himself in the capitol and challenge Landok to a fight. Landok was a warrior servint the Covenant of Trombli. He was also Lorne's cousin. At their undefeated warrior Landok could refuse no challenge. While everyone's attention was focused on this fight the others would attack the Covenant and assasinate Silas. Groo realized that Barshon was doing this at least partly to gain power for himself. But he was still the best chance for peace and freedom for all of Pylea. After this, when Barshon was in power, he would negotiate a peace with the Groosalag. Or possibly Groo's lieutenants. Even if they were successful there was the distinct possibility that Groo would die at Landok's sword. But Groo was also aware that at least some of his men would die during this battle. It seemed only right that he put himself in as much danger as his soldiers.
