Chapter 428
Buffy and Dawn walked the last few blocks home. Their team had lost, but they consoled themselves by eating lots of hot dogs and drinking lots of root beer at the game. Buffy still had to patrol in three hours, when the sun set. But as they walked they suddenly became afraid. Since her training Buffy had developed a spider-sese for danger. Dawn felt this too, they decided to walk faster. Then the vampires attacked. Buffy was suprised. They wore dark robes, but it was still daylight. Buffy tried staking some, removing the robes of others. The sunlight still killed them after all. But even as the sun was burning and killing them these vampires attacked Buffy, fighting right until the moment of their deaths. Dawn ran away, trying to get home where they could not enter. As Buffy fought these vampires, energized by Absolom's sermons, she saw Lilith. She didn't realize that this was the legendary slayer turned vampire. Buffy just saw Lilith draining Dawn's blood. Buffy quickly left this fight to save Dawn. She removed Lilith's robe and kept away until the daylight destroyed this vampire. Then Buffy knelt to an unconsciouss Dawn. No heartbeat, no pulse. It couldn't be true, these bastards couldn't win. But it seemed like evil had won. Dawn was dead.
