Azkaban Justice
Chapter Five: The End...?
July 4, 2038
"...and in the days that followed saw many students leave Hogwarts for the last time," Harry said to his grandson who sat in his lap.
"But why?" Five year old Xavier frowned up at his grandfather. He was the first born son of James, Harry and Hermione's eldest. He had inherited Hermione's eyes and bushy hair but it was dark hair like what Harry and James had. He had a lot of the Potter family features but as he frowned it was like looking at a small male version of his grandmother.
"Because their parents did not trust us with keeping them safe. They didn't trust us in general." It was almost expected with how many people had fallen over themselves to praise him and his brother in one breath, and insulted them in the next. Thanks to the voting boost, there was never any calls for any of them to be stripped of anything though several people really wanted that to happen, especially when it came to their ownership of Hogwarts.
Since Hogwarts was well established long before the Ministry, they were out of its jurisdiction. Of course, the board of governors was made by concerned parents after no other founders heir stepped forward. It was created to help protect the interest of the students, which it did at first, but it warped into something that acted more like a poison to the school even with decent members on it.
When Harry and Chuckie had claimed their inheritances, they effectively disbanded the board when they accepted the titles of Slytherin and Gryffindor.
Xavier let out an angry huff and scowled at nothing.
"Bollocks!" He barked, earning himself a little tap on the shoulder.
"Language!" Harry frowned down at his grandson who huffed again. Harry and Chuckie never raised a hand to their children and grandchildren but they could be strict when necessary.
"You and Grandpa Chuckie say that all the time," Xavier grumbled, clearly not understanding why his grandpa was upset. "So does daddy."
"Do you want to hear what else happened that year or not?" Harry definitely didn't want to think about what would happen if his wife found out about this. He had to sleep on the couch for two weeks when the first word out of his daughter Lillian's mouth was 'Shit'. It probably didn't help that the word was said enthusiastically and multiple times.
"Fine." The boy grumbled again.
"Dumbledore was sentenced to prison for the rest of his life but he only lasted four years in the Nurmengard. Apparently his heart couldn't take the drain on his magic from being in a magical suppression chamber..."
Azkaban island was reclaimed by the Harry and Charlus in the name of the Peverell family. It was rented in the time of the three brothers when crime began to escalate and the cells in the Ministry were getting full. Peverell castle had been converted into a prison and the Ministry paid rent for the up keep. When the Peverell family 'died', the Ministry seemed to think that it now owned the island outright even though that was never an option in the original contract.
The boys gave the Ministry a notice that they would turn the prisoners over to the ICW unless they could payback what was owed and continue to pay rent. Of course the Ministry didn't have enough funds to pay the back rent - which amounted to more than six hundred thousand galleons.
The ICW interviewed each prisoner to ensure their guilt. More than half of them had been falsely imprisoned and those that weren't were sent to the so called super max prison which is where nearly every allied country of the I.C.W. sent their more hardened criminals.
"A lot of people were happy that he was gone, but just as many people were upset..."
The amount of parties that occurred after Dumbledore was vast and frequent, but a lot more people were mourning for the loss of their families. Molly Weasley, now Molly No-name, had been one of Dumbledore's most staunchest supporters in the beginning. After finding out that he let her older brothers Fabian and Gideon die because they were so willing to kill the opposition, she had gone into a fury that not even her kids had been able to cause with their antics.
Many of the light sided families had felt the same way. And none of them had been allowed anywhere near the Ministry until Dumbledore had been moved to Germany.
"What about all the other people that hurt you and Grandpa Chuckie?" Xavier asked quietly with narrowed eyes.
"They and their families were shunned by society, except for those who were innocent or became allied with us..."
Septimus Weasley had done the unthinkable and declared his house extinct. Meaning that the Weasley name was no more in the British Isles. He and his wife had gotten tired of having to deal with their daughter in law which was why they very rarely visited. After her and Dumbledore's failed coup that would have seen their entire family murdered, Septimus made sure that they never had anything left. As soon as Chuckie and Harry accepted his proposal for the family seat, he petitioned to be apart of the Black family after his wife had been reinstated.
He now went by Septimus Aloysius Black while his remaining grandchildren who were not apart of the alliance scrambled to find new names. Percy had chosen the name Weatherby since hardly anyone called him Weasley anymore. Ron took his middle name, Billius, as his new last name and Ginny had yet to find one that stuck for more than a few months.
"Can I go to the island?"
The question was asked quietly, nervously, and Harry paused thoughtfully.
"You can go there when you're older," Harry said slowly then added more firmly when Xavier began to pout at him, "Azkaban is no place for a child."
Xavier grumbled again but said nothing more as Harry thought about the dreaded island.
"What the bloody hell was that?!" Jacob exclaimed as an explosion rocked Azkaban. He and the non phoenix powered members of their immediate family were in a magically powered aircraft that circled the island. Harry and Charlus had constructed it while they were pretending to be in locked up in a lab under the main prison building which belonged to their ancestors.
"There," Hermione pointed to one of the smaller buildings that had smoke coming out of it as her mother admonished her father. Harry and Charlus appeared in a ball of fire high up in the air above one of the taller buildings before they pushed off of each other and dived in two different directions.
If they hadn't been told that Harry and Charlus were going to be performing dangerous stunts, they all would have screamed in despair. They were still worried as the twins plunged towards the ground.
BOOM!
Two giant fireballs exploded on either side of the building which cracked from the force.
On the island, Charlus roared as he swung his hammer and hit one side of the building with the spike. On the other side, Harry snarled and stabbed the building with his sword. They both charged their weapons with their phoenix fire and the fire pulsed its way through the building.
The stone building began to crumble then collapse. Harry and Charlus flamed away before they could be hit by the falling debris and started working on the smaller buildings.
"What is their actual plan here?" Charlotte murmured.
"They want to tear it down and rebuild it into a training ground," Susan said. "since they can't really train anywhere else without setting off the magical sensors." She looked over to Charlotte, "They've already gained the attention of the ICW - which means that there are people out there who would love to get their hands on those two. For research purposes or for something much worse."
"The DOM tried to get blood samples from them in exchange for the property of Augustus Rookwood and the other Death Eaters," Hermione added with a scowl. "They wanted to replicate their powers for a project they wanted to run while the boys only wanted what was theirs by right of conquest."
"Ah, so that explains the sudden influx of injured unspeakables," Amelia muttered to herself. She had gotten reports from Saint Mungo's for certain Unspeakables that tried to press charges against Harry and Charlus. Their injuries and been extensive and could not be healed with magic.
"Yeah because those dumb arses do not understand the meaning of the word no," Susan huffed as another explosion was heard. "Honestly, you'd swear that they had never heard the word before."
"If that one Unspeakable, Croaker I believe his name is, hadn't intervened, then the DOM would have been short all their employees and an office." Hermione shook her head. "And even then it was close." Susan nodded in agreement.
"What were the boys trying to get exactly?" Jacob asked.
"Rookwood was one of the smartest and most innovative members of the Unspeakables if rumors are to be believed," Amelia put in, "he supposedly had invented some very powerful items." She shrugged then raised an eyebrow at Hermione and Susan.
"The boys didn't think that such items were safe with the DOM," Susan explained. "They had very lax security and a few Death Eaters were in their ranks - anyone could take something. Neither Charlus nor Harry wanted to be brought up on charges for theft but they took what they could legally. Its a small win, but a win none the less."
"Anything good?"
"A few things, but the boys want it to be a surprise for when they show you later," Hermione answered her grinning father.
The adults nodded their heads in understanding then turned back to watch the show.
Harry and Charlus had used golems to help with the building process after they had demolished the buildings. They had managed to build a suitable training arena after all was said and done. Even with the Dementors gone - a lot were destroyed by the boys or they fled - the island was still miserable thanks to the wards in place. They couldn't be removed without first removing the modified Fidelius charm first, allowing people to remember the exact location of the island and leaving it vulnerable.
"Grandpa?" Xavier tugged at Harry's sleeve, bringing him out of the memory.
"Hmm?"
"I said how come I can't read those?" He pointed to a black bookshelf with a glass door filled with three shelves of books - all in various sizes. "I tried before but grandma Mione told me not to touch it and she never said why."
Harry considered this before speaking.
"Technically, those are the personal journals of all your grand parents, including grandma Charlotte, grandma Amy, and grandpa Jacob, so on and so forth," He said and Xavier stared at him in surprise. "they were used to document our various...adventures. You can't read them now because some of them are very...mature and clinical in nature. Some are a bit more light hearted though," He mused but then shook his head. "You'll get to read them one day but not anytime soon."
POP!
"Hermione be saying it is time for supper now," Winky interrupted whatever Xavier was going to ask next and Harry blinked.
"Is it really that late?" He asked incredulously then shrugged and turned to his grandson, "well you heard Winky, get a move on." He placed Xavier on the floor and the boy scampered towards the dining hall before he stopped and turned back to Harry.
"Grandpa?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for talking to me today and answering my questions."
Harry smiled softly, "You're welcome Xavier. Now run along." The boy nodded and headed towards his new destination. "I'll be there in a moment Winky," he said to the elf. "I need to check something." Winky left with a pop as Harry got out of his chair and headed over to the book case. While he didn't lie about the books being mature for young minds, he neglected to mention that some of them took place in other dimensions.
It had been a secret of their combined families for over four decades.
"So what's this about exactly?" Bill asked Harry. He, along with those who were connected to the Potter and Black families had been invited to the Azkaban lab.
"A demonstration, and an offer." Harry said cryptically before gesturing to an unremarkable looking mirror with a crimson gem on the wall that had sounds emanating from it. Upon further inspection a forest with a brook could be seen from inside the mirror. There was what appeared to be a tall wooden book stand with a large book on top right next to it. There was also a stone basin with a smaller stand next to that.
"You're probably wondering why you're seeing the forest of Dean in the mirror." Harry added as he retrieved a metal ball from his pocket.
"Is it like the enchanted ceiling at school?" Angelina asked, "But with, you know, an actual location?"
Harry threw the ball at the mirror and instead of breaking it, the ball went right through it as if the glass was a wall made of water. It landed in the brook with a splash and the noise scattered the animals in the area.
"I guess not," Angelina muttered to herself with wide eyes. The others who didn't know about the mirror - basically everyone whose names were not Harry or Charlus - had wide eyes as well.
Charlus, who had been quiet, took off in a dead run towards the mirror and jumped through it just as his intended - and several other people - yelped in alarm. Charlus picked up the ball before running back and jumping through the mirror. He handed his brother the ball back calmly as he walked over to Susan.
"Prat!" She snarled and smacked his shoulder. "Don't scare me like that!"
Charlus looked a bit abashed and took her hand to place a kiss on it. Susan huffed but made no hostile move towards him or to get away from him.
"The purpose of this mirror, was to be a new method of travel," Harry continued as if there had been no interruptions. "One that would have rendered floo travel and portkeys obsolete. With this method you could literally travel to any known destination in the world." He gestured to the book. "You write where you want to go and the mirror responds accordingly."
He sighed through his nose before continuing.
"Picture that," He said. "then picture a mirror or two in nearly every wizarding household. Picture families taking trips through it. Now picture that connection being reversed and having people come through it. Lot's of people...people who may not have your best interests at heart."
"Oh Merlin..." several people muttered as the implications hit them while others were merely stunned silent.
"The mass production of this mirror would have won Voldemort the war," Harry added flatly. "That gem lodged at the top of the mirror," He gestured to a crimson gem. "is apparently a piece of a large gem that houses a part of demonic energy. The demon whose power is housed within it is called Cyttorak."
Bill jerked as if he had been struck. Everyone else looked confused at his reaction except Hermione who frowned at the name. She had heard it before, she was sure of it, she just didn't remember where.
"Cyttorak?" Bill's voice was strangled as he asked the question. "Are you sure that is the name?"
"That's the name in Rookwood's journal," Harry replied. "he never invoked the incantation to summon the gems full power, but that mirror is still indestructible because the gem is apart of it. Why do you ask?"
"There's a lot of bad magic involved with that particular demon," Bill said then listed his experiences with cursed objects that were powered by similar gems in South America with one sticking out in particular. A man had gone crazy thinking he was indestructible due to a helmet with a crimson gem lodged in it. He had said the incantation to activate the powers incorrectly which was fortunate for the village he tried to destroy but not so much for him.
"...they had to put him in a certain ward in their hospital and Gringott's was called in to collect the item." Bill finished the story.
"Well then that village and the world at large should breath a sigh of relief that he messed up," Harry said seriously. "Chuckie and I have seen what happens when things are done correctly."
"How exactly?"
"The mirror is powered by demon magic and energy," Harry explained. "and while most demons need to be summoned to a certain plane of existence, some can jump in between realities to at least observe the life of that universe. Maybe even influence it. Rookwood reversed the connection to view other worlds but he could not go to them or bring anything through. Mostly because he couldn't find an alternative power source to maintain the breach between realities."
"And you used it," Alice stated, sounding both impressed and disapproving as she twitched. Neither Harry nor Charlus looked guilty, they simply nodded. "And what did you learn?"
"Quite a bit about the demon in question," Charlus replied. "He likes to frequent realities and dimensions where there are very few magic users or places that don't believe in demons - less resistance from the population. Our world is one of the few exceptions."
"One of these worlds," Hermione began slowly. "or rather, realities, wouldn't happen to have a group of mutants known as the X-Men, would they?"
As Harry and Charlus blinked at her, Hermione began to feel a bit silly for asking.
"They do actually," A surprised Harry said to an incredulous Hermione. "How did you know?"
Hermione briefly explained that she had read comics when she was younger, finding a sense of kinship with X-men because they were outcast like she was when she was growing up.
"I might have to read that," Harry murmured before shaking his head. "The offer we wanted to make was to observe other realities and maybe...offer them assistance." Everyone but his brother raised their eyebrows at him. "We have an alternative power source and...I can't stand by and watch things like this."
He flicked his wrist and the mirror rippled. The forest on Dean was now replaced with images of war torn worlds where children cried out for help as they watched their parents being slaughtered.
"That is happening right now and I..." Harry stopped himself and pointed at his brother. "...we, want to help. We have the power to do it, why not use it? Fawkes said to use our powers wisely - sitting around or looking over our shoulders for the rest of lives are not wise things to do. The first is being lazy and the second is being paranoid. Neither of those is exactly appealing."
No one said anything though Hermione moved to hug Harry.
"No one here wants that for you love," Hermione didn't have to turn around to know that there were nods of agreement. "But the risk-"
"Is great, I know." Harry interrupted her. "But I wouldn't even be suggesting it if I didn't think that all of us could minimize the risk."
"To truly minimize the risk, you shouldn't do it at all," Frank's dry comment earned him some dry looks in return but he continued, "however both of you seem adamant and you had the decency to speak with all of us first." He paused and sighed. "I can help with a power converter if you're interested but nothing comes to mind for an alternative power source."
Harry and Charlus both flicked their wrists and the staff they used on the island appeared in the center of the room.
"Will this suffice?"
Frank hobbled over with his cane to examine the staff. He touched it briefly and nodded approvingly.
"I could feel the power radiating off of it before I touched it," He murmured. "This will be useful." Turning to the twins, he said, "I will help you, but there needs to be some established rules and kill switches in place before I do."
"Of course." Both twins nodded in agreement. Harry turned to the others, "So, are there any objections?"
Only a few people protested to the idea at first, and fewer stated that they would not stop the twins in their goals, but they would not help them. They also agreed to keep it strictly in the family, lest some unsavory people try to use their methods for nefarious purposes.
It had taken them more than twenty years to master inter-dimensional travel with Rookwood's findings, their own ingenuity, and without the help of time magic. While time magic was useful, there was an inherent danger of crossing time streams or incorrectly using a time chamber to where you stayed inside for what felt like minutes, but was actually decades in real time.
Five years after announcing their intent to traverse other dimensions, Harry and Charlus married their intended brides in a double wedding that honored both mundane and magical traditions. The was a slight slant in favor for magical traditions in the variation of the ritual of equals.
It was a ritual that had fallen out of practice several centuries prior that allowed a bonded/married couple to share their magic together, evening out and reaching the same level of power. It was slightly modified in this case to share the same amount of power that the twins had individually with their wives, which enhanced the existing abilities of the girls.
Hermione and Susan did not receive all of their husbands' Phoenix abilities, namely the teleportation and summoning, but did receive more durability and strength along with actual flight. Which was something the boys could only imitate with charms and brooms but could not replicate. Crookshanks, Hermione's familiar, had taken well to the bond. He now looked like a large tiger. Susan's familiar, an Eagle Owl named Nike, looked similar to Hedwig, but her feathers were brown and speckled with black. She also had a much more menacing face and horns on the top of her head.
All four of them contemplated doing the reverse, having the girls share their magic to help dilute the Phoenix ability since it was well known that Phoenix's lived for a very long. So it stood to reason that Phoenix powered individuals could live for a long time - longer than most wizards and witches could live. There was no proper way to test this theory, and they weren't sure if the boys would die from 'technically' giving up their powers, so they went with the other option with heavy hearts.
It had taken the girls some time to get used to their new strength and powers, but neither regretted the decision to have their powers. Of course, they were still saddened by the fact that they would most likely outlive their family, friends, and maybe even the children of their friends.
They did gain some comfort in living in the present and not worrying about the future.
As time went on, their friends got married or had children, with Fleur getting pregnant first. She had given birth to a baby girl named Victoire Appoline Solomon, on the second of May, in 2001. She later gave birth to two more children, one shares a birthday with one of the Black/Bones children. It was agreed that whenever one couple was expecting, the others would hold off on exploring other dimensions to help the couple prepare.
Harry got out of his chair and started to walk out of the room before pausing by the book shelf. His eye's sought out a few of his favorites and his least favorites. He reminded himself that he would have to check in on the friends they had made in each dimension and see how they had progressed, but well after Hermione had given birth to their current child.
He grinned suddenly, thinking about his older children's proclamations of how weird it would be to have a sibling that was close in age to their children. He had laughed at their poleaxed expressions when telling them that their mother was pregnant again and he had done so now.
"Henry James Potter!" His wife shrieked. "Stop cackling about our children and get down here - the food is getting cold and we are tired of waiting!"
'There are things called heating charms love.' He thought with a chuckle before flaming down to the dining room. He smiled at everyone in attendance before kissing his scowling wife and taking his seat.
Life for Harry Potter and his family was wonderful, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
Some you will probably be pissed at how long this has taken to be released. Simple fact is that I had too much written, I started writing other projects and I wasn't actually sure how to end it. Hence this, in my opinion, crappy ending. However, if someone wants to take this story and run with it, be my guest. You would probably do it better than me.
