Chapter 3
As Rin walked through the streets of the small village she took in all the scenery. It was very different than what she was expecting. Aren't other worlds supposed to be more developed than Earth? Where are the flying saucers? Instead of jumping into another world it felt like she had jumped back in time a few thousand years. The people were dressed in odd clothing. The only skin she saw was their hands and their heads which were turned in her direction. The houses were made entirely of wood and were very small. She saw trees and long stretches of grass every where. Far more than what she had every seen before.
"In here." Inuyasha said as he entered the small house. She pulled the curtain back and entered. A shallow fire glowed in the middle of the room, confined to a whole in the ground. A few blankets were on the floor to make a bed and a few arrows and a bow leaned against the wall. Other than that there wasn't much else to it.
"Hello, Inuyasha." Rin heard a feminine voice say. She saw a girl stand up and give Inuyasha a peck on the cheek. She looked to be the same age as Inuyasha.
The girl turned to Rin with a questionable look. "This is Rin. I found her in the woods near the well." Inuyasha said.
"Oh." The girl said surprised. "I'm Kagome." Kagome looked Rin up and down and saw a flash of sadness cross her face.
"Hello." Rin said unsure of herself.
"So how did you find yourself here?" Kagome asked sitting down and motioning for Rin to take a spot.
"I was on a field trip with my class to the Higurashi shrine museum." Rin said taking her place across from Kagome and Inuyasha. Kagome grabbed his hand and he started to rub circle with his thumb. Kagome had this look in her eyes. They were full of grief.
"The shrine?" Kagome asked.
"yeah, It was turned into a museum after…..uuhhh after." Rin didn't really know how to explain it. Inuyasha had asked her not to mention it but Kagome had asked. Inuyasha wasn't paying attention to her though. His eyes were focused on Kagome.
Kagome looked down at their conjoined hands and then gave Rin a small smile. "I guess your curious about the events that happened that day." Kagome said.
Rin shook her head yes unable to voice how fascinating the event was to her. After all these years Kagome still had trouble even thinking about it.
"Well, it's a very long story so get comfortable." Rin switched around her legs to a more comfortable position and then looked up at Kagome. "When I was about your age I fell through the well like you had and ended up here. That's when I met Inuyasha. You could say he had some issues and I helped him out a bit, but when I accidentally broke a powerful jewel spreading the shards out all over the world I felt obligated to retrieve them. So Inuyasha and I set out to find them all but we weren't the only ones. There was a very powerful youkai named Naraku who was planning to use them to make him invincible. He had a very bad soul and stopped at nothing to gain power. Luckily we made some friends and after some time we thought we had defeated. It turned out to be one of his tricks, so after gathering thousands of demons he decided to attack at full force when I opened up the passage to my time. Inuyasha and I were able to kill the demons that made it through the well but some of our friends weren't as fortunate on the other side. We fought really hard and had to band together to kill him for once and for all. There were….casualties and everybody lost a lot that day. I just thank god that we were able to finally end it, end him." Kagome wiped away a stray tears and took a deep breath. Inuyasha brought her in for a hug and Rin watched silently.
"I think that's enough for today." Inuyasha said. Kagome broke away from their hug and smiled shyly. "Well I have to go." Inuyasha said coolly getting up.
"Wait. How do I get home?" Rin asked. She stood up and walked over to Inuyasha.
"I can take you back." Inuyasha replied.
"You just jump back into the well and you'll be back in your time." Kagome explained. Rin had a nervous smile plastered to her face and she nodded her head. Kagome smiled at her and got up as well. "I'll go with you." She said and intertwined their arms together.
Walking up the hill a thought occurred to Rin. Kagome said the well would take her back to her time. So that meant that Rin hadn't traveled to a different dimension, she had just traveled back in time. Another thought occurred to Rin and her face went pale.
"So you said the well would take me back to my time?" Rin asked. Kagome shook her head yes. "What if it takes me to different time though? What if I end up further in the past.
Kagome laughed a little, "I've thought about that myself. The well won't take you back to any time you aren't meant to be in. I believe your soul is connected to this time just as mine was. That's because you were rein-"
"The well is just up here." Inuyasha interrupted. Kagome gave him a quizzical look but didn't finish explaining. Rin took notice in this and decided to ask Kagome in private. It didn't look like Inuyasha wanted to elaborate on what Kagome was saying.
When they reached the well, Rin turned and gave Kagome a hug and then turned to Inuyasha. "Thank you for saving my life and all." Inuyasha shrugged slightly and gave her a look that said he did it all the time.
"Do you think I'll be able to come back?" Rin asked already halfway over the ledge.
"Of course. You just have to jump back into the well." Rin looked down into the blackness and swallowed thickly. "You'll be fine." Kagome encouraged.
Rin heard a rustle in the leaves as she jumped and looked up to tall silhouette standing in the woods. She didn't know why but looking at it made her sad.
