Chapter 474
Spike captured Darla. He and Drusilla dragged her to the Master's lair, she did not go without a fight. Spike noticed certain things that seemed out of place. Scabby-demons with robes now allied with the Brethen. Other demons, wearing Nazi-like uniforms. Spike knew these were the Scourge. They'd failed to stop human-demon integration in Pylea and knew they would lose. Rather than accepting race-mixing they allied with these vampires to end all life. Spike also noticed dresses, some pink furniture. Drusilla must have a lot of favor with the Master for him to allow these things. The Master got up from his throne, happy to see Spike and Darla.

Master: Spike, so good to know you've accepted your place.
Spike: If the world's about to end, I'd just as soon spend my last days with Drusilla.
Maste: You are a knight of evil, I can tolerate some human weakness. And Darla, I'm so happy to share the end with you.
Darla: I beg you, don't do this.
Master; You beg? I see some of your humanity remains.
Darla: I'm not begging for my life, I'm begging for my son's.
Master: Do not mention that boy. We are vampires. We do not give life, we destroy it. We sire others only to continue our holy mission.
Darla: I never intended to get pregnant, never thought it was even possible. Then it happenned, and I love him, as you love me. It is not a weakness.
Master: It is. I was a human once, back then you had to earn the right to become a vampire. Perhaps I still have this weakness, but that will not stop me from my sacred duty.

As the Master continue to lecture he heard a commotion. Some vampires dragged Angel towards the Master. Darla and Spike tried to help Angel, but they were outnumbered. The Master realized that Spike had been lying, and Darla was never his hostage. They had tried to gain access to his lair, the question was why? Then Dalton came, with the Codex. As a human Dalton had been a professor, became obsessed with the occult. His fascination brought him too close to the vampires, and they turned him. Now Dalton was the smartest vampire in the Order of Aurelius, the only one capable of translating the Codex prophecies. Angel, Darla, and Spike tried to steal the Codex. They would all pay for this.
