Chapter 479
Allan Francis Doyle went to Pylea for the convention. Barshon and the Groosalag were writing a constitution for Pylea. Doyle was amongst those experts who went there to advise the leaders. Demon-rights activist Tobias Dupree was another. He was busy in Sloboda and mediating to end the conflict between the sexes of Oden-Tal. Dupree left his man Mars in charge of the second one. It was agreed that elections were the best way for the people to choose their new leaders. Most factions agreed witht his, each leader confident that they could win some power this way. Doyle knew it was important for all the races to be equal under the law, regardless of which group held power. The leaders agreed with this, knowing civil war could continue otherwise. Slavery became illegal under the constitution. Freedom of speech and religion were guaranteed. Doyle was proud to have helped with these things, but other things they didn't achieve. He'd recommended a system of protecting the poor through a minimum wage and universal health care. This was difficult for the people of Pylea to understand. Most doctors recieved payment in livestock or labor on the doctor's farm. Dupree remained confident that Pylea would evolve towards these things in time, possibly centuries, as America had. Dupree did get them to agree to certain reforms to the courts. The right to counsel, trial by jury, Habeas Corpus. Pylea likely had a lot of turmoil ahead with it's reconstruction. There were races that hated each other, some people forced into work that they didn't want, others losing what little they had. This was creatig social confusion, economic depression, likely riots. But Doyle and Dupree were cautiously optimistic after this constitutional convention.
