Chapter 486
Quentin Travers still feared the Oracles, he'd already survived one encounter. But the signs were pointing towards the end, and Quentin couldn't understand how the Powers could make Buffy the slayer at such a crucial time. At great personal risk he went to see them again. He'd feared what he might find, but he did not expect this. The Oracles were dead. What evil could possibly kill the Oracles? Then Quentin saw a ghost. It was the female Oracle. Her image was fading. Quentin knew she had little time, and got right down to business.

Quentin: Who did this?
Female: The Beast, warrior of the underworld. Centuries ago he served a diety who tried to enslave many worlds. When she failed she vowed vengeance on all worlds. If she couldn't rule supreme, she would destroy all. After her destrution she bonded with the vampire. That is why he is so persuasive, why others serve his end. I don't know how the Beast crossed the threshold. Normally soldiers of darkness cannot enter. But the barriers are being broken.
Quentin: Tell me how to stop the First evil and the Master, and we'll repay him for what he did to you and your brother.
Female: You know how to defeat them. You and your side will have the Chalice before the final battle.
Quentin: I know the sacrifice that it requires, I am willing to make it.
Female: Your sacrifice alone will not suffice. There must be others. I fear it will not be enough. I'm sorry, but it seems your world, all worlds, are doomed.
