Loveday's POV

We were standing watching Robin riding a horse called Blackie he was having a bit of trouble with him. Blackie was bucking and rearing and broncing all over the place, my father was shouting at Robin which didn't seem to be helping at all. He stopped shouting and whipped around and I heard a voice say "Don't shout, all your doing is upsetting the horse more and making it worse!" Benjamin and I turned around and I saw a young woman astride a stunning chestnut horse, I couldn't believe that she had spoken to my father like that the last person who spoke to him like that was Maria, oh how I missed her. I looked at the girl again and I realized that she looked like Maria, our Moon Princess, Benjamin's niece, the Maria who Robin is in love with – although I don't think he hasn't realised it. The Maria who has been missing from our lives for 2 years, the Maria who we all thought was dead. I heard Bill say "Ria, don't talk to customers like that, it's rude" Ria? It couldn't be could it.

"I don't care if it was rude Billy I won't have anyone shouting around Blackie all it's doing is scaring him. I'm surprised that you were letting him do it. You shouldn't stand for it, the guy obviously doesn't click with Blackie so your just asking for an injury by keeping him on him. Put him on Jet or Star." I listened closely to her voice and I was almost certain that it was her

"We already tried Star and the lad couldn't get anywhere near her without her freaking out on him and rearing up"

"Then get Jet out and try him.." she looked over at Robin "Look get off Blackie, it's obviously not working" he nodded and dismounted. She let out a shrill whistle and Blackie started galloping towards the fence. I thought that he was going to stop but he just kept coming and he jumped the 5 bar post and rail fence, she leaned down from her horse and took hold of the reins and said

"Good boy Blackie, come on now let's get you to Aidan. I'll be back in a minute with Jet for you" She headed towards the barn

She returned 5 minutes later leading a different horse, she walked to Robin and handed him the reins, Robin went to mount and she stopped him and told him to do something, she handed him a carrot, he fed it to the horse and then mounted up, she said something and Robin replied then walked to the barn and came back out with the horse that she had been on earlier.

She shouted to Robin "You mind if I come in and do some work with Red?"

"Na, come on in"

"Thanks"

Bill opened the gate and she thanked him. After 5 minutes she asks her horse to canter, he drops his head into an outline immediately, as they rounded the corner to the long straight she pushes him on asking him to extend and then when they reach the top she collects him again. She changes the rein and does the same thing.

She says "Robin you want to pop over some jumps before we head off? There's a couple of logs on the trails"

"Sure" Bill walks in and puts up some jumps. Robin and Ria both pop over a few then she asked him

"Wanna do a round?"

"Sure bet ya I can beat ya"

"Challenge Accepted!" we laugh and Bill yelled for Cassie

"Cas get out here"

"Yeh Dad" I hear a reply

"Ria and Robin are going to have a bit of a competition thought that you would like to watch. Also do you have your watch? They're going to go around a round of jumps the fastest with no knock downs wins"

"Dad I always have my watch, and with Ria on Red there ain't no competition, those two are bloody dare devils"

I hear Ria ask

"So you want to go first or shall I?"

"I'll go" I watched Robin go, Jet jumped clear and fast. Ria when next she was fast and clear so far, as she came out of the double she did a tight turn, cutting inside the fence that Robin had gone round, and pointed her horse at the jump, they weren't straight but they jumped it and didn't knock it. They were panting hard when they were finished, she hugged him around the neck and she looked up when Cassie said

"Told you there was no competition against Ria and Red"

She laughed and said back

"Cas there is always someone who is better than you are. You just have to find them, and never get stuck up if you always win, that's when you start to lose. Remember what Tommy always says 'Compete for yourself and no one else, go for your personal best' he was right it's not about beating someone it's about doing the best that you can"

"I know Maria, you really are starting to sound like Tommy!"

Maria laughed. That's conformation that Ria is short for Maria

"And that's a bad thing?"

They burst out laughing.

"Well Robin still want to go for a hack?"

"Sure"

Bill opened the gate for them, we watched them walk away before heading up to the house for a cup of tea.

"So," I ask "does Maria live with her parents?"

"She lives here, Cas and Sarah found her soaking wet and unconscious at the beach about 2 years ago. The only thing she could remember was her name, so we took her in and looked in the papers for missing girls but there was nothing. She's been living with us ever since. Why'd you ask?"

"No reason. Benjamin? Can I talk to you a moment?"

"Excuse us, we won't be a minute"

We walked out to the drive

"Loveday? What is it?"

"The girl, I think she might be Maria."

"Don't be stupid Loveday, Maria died when she jumped off the cliff, we searched for a year and nothing"

"Benjamin, you heard what Bill said they found her washed up on the beach 2 years ago! It has to be her."

"Stop fantasizing Loveday. Maria is dead and that's the end of it."

He turned and walked back into the house. I followed him in, no use in arguing when I have no proof.
