Bethany tried to enter California under the radar. After the attack on London everyone entering America had to face more security at the airport. Luckily they didn't know about her experience as a professional assasin. These guards also had no clue that Bethany had a piece of the Chalice, or that their lives depended upon Bethany delivering it to the slayer. As she left this airport Bethany was attacked. She recognized this woman, Vanessa Brewer. Vanessa tore her own eyes out and learned to become more sensitive to her surroundings. All this made Vanessa a suprisingly effective assasin for the Order of Taraka. These two women were even friends once, worked together a few times. But Bethany was the superior fighter. She defeated Vanessa, had the chance to kill her. But if she killed another assasin, they would forever hunt her down until she was dead. Right now she had some hope of returning with the Chalice to bargain for her life. But if she killed Vanessa, no quarter would ever be given. Bethany tried to reason with her old friend, but Vanessa refused to compromise. Bethany knew that Vanessa would never stop her quest, even when the entire world was at stake. With some sorrow Bethany killed Vanessa Brewer.
