Chapter 499
On Saturday afternoon Giles was trying to translate the Codex. Jenny was elsewhere, considering staying at a hotel for a few nights. Rupert and Jenny both knew they'd been drugged, had no plans to end their marriage over it. But they might both need a few nights apart. Giles and Wesley had discovered that the Codex was written in Tro-clon. Three parts of the book. A sentance or a paragraph might begin in part one, continue in part 2, and finish in part 3. This meant that one needed the entire Codex to understand the prophecies. This Chalice of life was almost complete. Dracula had given his final piece, the Knights of Byzantium were coming, Bethany had brought the Order of Taraka's piece. Quentin even contacted the Order of Dagon, a small group of monks whose sole purpose was protecting their piece of the Chalice. According to the Codex the last piece was "Shanshu." The closest translation Giles could find meant both "To live" and "To die." It was all part of a cycle, life and death. Giles believed it meant some had ti die so others could live. Fairly standard rhetoric for battle. Then Giles realied that this book could contain a location for the final piece. It took Giles many hours to figure out where this final piece was. When he did he couldn't believe his eyes, or maybe he just didn't want to believe them. Surely the final Chalice piece couldn't be there!
