Chapter 27: Sweet Release

It was quiet, the only sound coming from the birds and the rhythmic beeping next to him. Shunsui opened his eyes and saw that the sun was a third of the way up in the sky, indicating that it was mid-morning and still too early to be getting up. He grunted and snuggled further down under the covers in the hopes of falling back to sleep. Rose was clinging to him in her sleep like ivy on a tree, her head buried in the collar of the shihakushō. Shunsui ran his hand up and down her back, gently caressing her before wrapping his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to his chest. She let out a quiet mewling sound at his ministration before snuggling in closer.
A quiet clear of ones throat brought Shunsui attention away from Rose and towards the chair which was occupied by Ukitake.
"Juu what are you doing here? And why are you watching me sleep?"
"Ise-san was looking for you. She claimed that you never returned to the eighth division after the Taicho meeting last night. What with your recent behaviour you can imagine how worried she was. She sent most of your division out to try and find you. I just had a hunch that you would be here and it seemed that I was correct. I have only been here a few minutes so I have not been watching you sleep." Explained Ukitake with a smile before standing up and summoning a heel butterfly. "I told Ise-san that I would tell her if I found you." He explained after Shunsui gave him a questioning look. Shunsui watched as Ukitake passed the message onto the butterfly before releasing it out of the window.
"So does Retsu know that you spent the night with Rose?" Asked Ukitake after he had re-taken his seat on the chair.
"Yes, she woke me up early in the morning while she was checking in on Rose's recovery. She did seem too upset with the fact that I spent the night with Rose. In fact she looked very happy about it." Replied Shunsui.
Ukitake nodded and then turned his attention to Rose. "You seem happier Shunsui."
"Looks can be deceiving."
"Yes but I know you well enough to know when I am being deceived."
Shunsui smiled. "My darling Rose is getting better and soon we can put this terrible ordeal behind us."
"Physically she might be better but mentally-."
"-I know that she is traumatized by everything that happened to her, but now we can face it together…if she would let me." Said Shunsui in a serious tone. "And if she does let me I will stay by her side and offer her whatever she needs in order to get better."
Ukitake nodded at his friend's determination but he still felt troubled. "What makes you think that she would tell you everything?"
"Last night…she…had a nightmare and woke up traumatized. But when I calmed her down she told me everything." Explained Shunsui.
Last night
Shunsui had fallen asleep with his darling Rose safely tucked next to him. Her breath was even and tickled his neck. However, he was then woken up several hours later with Rose screaming and thrashing around in her sleep.
"GET THEM OFF ME!" Screamed Rose with tears in her eyes.
"Rose stop it is only a nightmare." Shunsui sat up and tried to hold Rose down before her hurt herself.
"GET THEM OFF!" Rose's body thrashed around violently making it very hard for Shunsui to hold her down.
Shunsui swore under his breath and tried in vain to hold Rose down. Damn that Kurosawa for all the terror he had put her through! "Rose wake up!" Anguish rose inside him as he saw her thrash around in obvious pain as her terrible nightmare continues to haunt her. He knew exactly what Kurosawa had done to her and so he had an inkling of what she was dreaming about. Kurosawa, that bastard! He got what he deserved.
Suddenly Rose pushed Shunsui onto his back and then straddled his chest, fist raised as if ready to punch him. Shunsui's warrior instincts took over and he quickly had Rose's wrists held in a tight grip. She continued to thrash against him, trying to get herself free from his grasp but then suddenly she stopped.
Slowly her eyes began to open and she looked down at Shunsui with fear in her eyes. "Rose, it's me. You are safe." Said Shunsui watching as Rose blinked several times. A look of horror replaced the fear on her face after she realised what she had done.
"I…I am sorry…I,I thought." And then she burst into tears. "I thought I was back with Kurosawa and that you were him." She sobbed.
Shunsui sat up and gently re-positioned Rose so that she was sitting in his lap. "Shh Rose its ok, there is nothing to worry about." He soothed.
"But I attacked you thinking that you were Kurosawa." Rose continued to sob.
"You were having a bad dream."
"But I attacked you."
"Tell me about it."
"What?"
"Tell me about your nightmare. It will make you feel batter." Said Shunsui. "But only if you want to do it. Don't think that I am pressuring you into doing it."
There was a pause between them while Rose caught her breath. "I dreamt that I was still in Kurosawa's clutches and that my body was covered in spiders. I was screaming, and trying to get them off my body but they would not budge and then Kurosawa turned up. He just stood their laughing at me. It is his face that scares me the most. And then Kurosawa approached me with the intent to hurt me so I tried to defend myself. I am so sorry that I attacked you." Her voice was a bit shaky and a few sobs escaped every now and then.
Shunsui tightened his hold around Rose. "It was only a dream and remember that I will never let anybody hurt you ever again. Kurosawa is gone and will never hurt you again."
Rose felt warm and safe in Shunsui's arms and she could feel the terror of her nightmare slowly disappearing into the back of her mind. He had been right, she did feel better after telling him about it.
"Thank you for listening." She whispered after a while.
"You don't need to thank me for listening to you. You can tell me about your problems and worries whenever you want to." Said Shunsui.
Rose nodded and then paused.
"What?"
"Where is Midnight Dancer. I remember dropping her but I don't know what happened to her."
Shunsui smiled. "Midnight Dancer is safe in my quarters."
"Why is she in your quarters?" asked Rose in an accusatory tone.
"Well I found her in my garden after you dropped her so I decided to keep her safe until you came back."
Rose leaned forwards and kissed Shunsui. "Thank you."
"Anytime for my darling." Shunsui kissed Rose back and the two shared a bittersweet kiss. "Why did you ask about your Zanpakuto?" asked Shunsui after a while.
Rose looked rather sheepish for a moment. "Now you have to tell me." Said Shunsui.
"Well when I was having my nightmare I heard Midnight dancer talking to me and then she materialized and…stopped the nightmare." Explained Rose.
"So your Zanpakuto stopped your nightmare. I guess that makes sense as she can control dreams." Said Shunsui more to himself.
"Yeah…can I have her back?"
"Sure, I'll go fetch her tomorrow and bring her to you. She seems to like my touch and doesn't mind me carrying her." said Shunsui.
"That's because I like your touch. Is it unusual that a Zanpakuto likes being carried by somebody who is not their master?"
"Yes, normally Zanpakuto hate it when somebody who is not their master carries them. Sometimes a Zanpakuto can accept being carried by somebody else who is not their master. But that can only happen when two people trust each other implicitly." Explained Shunsui. "In short it means that deep down you trust me and your Zanpakuto recognizes that."
"Of course I trust you." Yawned Rose.
Shunsui bent down and kissed her. "Good to hear it. Now are you ready to go back to sleep because you look exhausted."
Rose yawned again. "Only if you hold me like this."
Shunsui chuckled before shuffling down onto his back with Rose clutched safely in his arms.
End of flash back
"So Rose was having a nightmare but was woken up by her Zanpakuto?" asked Ukitake.
"Yes it seems like Midnight Dancer stopped the nightmare and woke Rose up before she could fully attack me."
"How is that possible?"
"Her Zanpakuto has the ability to control people's dreams. So I guess she noticed that her master was having a very bad nightmare and stepped in to stop it." Explained Shunsui.
"But this is great news. Now you can both work together to get Rose healthy again. You can protect her and help her during the day and her Zanpakuto can protect her during the night." Said Ukitake with a smile.
"Yes, I guess so."
"You don't sound that enthusiastic. What is the matter?"
"It is just so frustrating seeing her suffer and knowing that there is very little that I can do to help her." Sighed Shunsui.
"That is not true. From what I hear just you being there is enough to calm her down. You did not see her when she first woke up but she was distant and closed off. You have managed to make her talk which is a good thing." Shunsui did not look very convinced so Ukitake continued. "I think when Unohana comes to check on Rose again later on today and sees the difference you have on her she will agree to let continue to stay with her. You are helping Rose, even if you think you are not, you are."
Shunsui looked at his friend. "I guess you're right. But I still feel like I am not having that much of an effect on her."
"Well healing does take time and Rose has a lot of deep wounds to heal." Nodded Ukitake.
The sun had risen high in the sky, flooding the room with bright light. Rose mumbled in her sleep and snuggled in closed to Shunsui.
Shunsui sighed. "As much as I would like to stay here I really should head back to the division and apologize to Nanao-Chan."
"It is only midday, nobody expects to see you until about 2 pm." Said Ukitake.
"You are right, but I really should go and apologize to Nanao-Chan. I owe it to her." Shunsui tried to get up but Rose clung onto him tightly, holding him back and preventing him from leaving.
Ukitake chuckled. "I think that somebody else wants you to stay."
Shunsui looked down at the sleeping Rose next to him. "Yeah I guess that you are right."
Ukitake stood up. "I should probably return to the office. I gave Hana the day off so she could come and visit Rose later on. Plus she looked like she needed it. But sadly that means that Kiyone and Sentaro were left in charge…and you know how excited they can get."
Shunsui nodded and watched as his friend left. As much as he hated to leave Rose alone he really did need to check in with his division.
Slowly he began to extract himself from Rose's clutch, being mindful of all the tubes around her. He had just managed to climb out of the bed when he heard the cutest little yawn behind him. Turning around he saw that Rose was in fact awake and was shooting him an accusatory glare.
"Sorry Rose but I have to return to the division but I will be back later today." He said.
"Oh…ok." Said Rose. Shunsui leaning down and kissed her on the lips before walking out of the room, picking up his haori on the way out. Rose noted that he had left this pink Kimono draped around her shoulders like a protective blanket. She pulled the garment off her shoulders and held it up to her nose. It still smelt like him.
There was a knock on the door followed immediately by it being opened. An elderly nurse walked in carrying a tray piled high with food. Rose tried to hide the pink kimono in her arms but realised that it was too late and so she wrapped it around her body like a shawl.
"I have your food. Make sure that you eat it." said the nurse while giving Rose a dirty look. Rose looked quizzically at the nurse and wondered what she and done to offend her.
"Thank you." She was going to be the better person and take the high road. By the looks of it people were still angered with her relationship with Shunsui. But at least her friends supported her and that was all that really mattered.
Rose watched as the nursed walked forwards and dumped the tray down on the small table at the edge of the bed before walking out with her nose high up in the air. When the door had closed Rose moved forwards to inspect the food but the moment she saw it she regretted it. The 'food' looked like it had been chewed on already and then spat out again. Frowning, Rose picked up the chopsticks and started to try and eat the rice. At least that looked edible but sadly her skills with chops sticks had not improved much so she was barely able to eat the rice anyway. After a few minutes Rose gave up and threw herself back down onto the pillow, gasping as pain shot through her side. She looked to the side and saw the pile of baked goods on the bedside table and grunted. She was not in the mood to eat anything sweat. Looks like she was forced to wait until somebody turned up and helped her eat her 'food'.
Shunsui walked through the main gate of his division and greeted the guards. As it was lunch time most of the division were in the mess hall, however, he did pass a few stragglers on the way to his office. When he reached the main administrative building he noticed that it was suspiciously quiet and the few Shinigami who were there shot him sympathetic glances. His Nanao-Chan was likely very angry with him for his recent behaviour. Shunsui groaned and walked towards the door that led to the office of the Taicho and Fukutaicho. He might as well go and face her wrath sooner rather than later.
Shunsui had barely made it through the door when his face collided violently against a very large and heavy Kido book. The force was so strong that he fell backwards onto the floor.
"Do you have any idea how worried I have been?!" Shouted Nanao from somewhere over him.
"OW Nanao-Chan." Moaned Shunsui while rubbing his sore nose and checking for blood.
"Hours! I was out looking for you for hours! I thought that you had drunk yourself into a stupor like the last time. Nobody could find you!"
Shunsui stood up and looked down into Nanao's angry eyes. She must have been really concerned for him if she had spent hours searching for him.
"I am sorry Nanao for the way I've behaved these last few days. The way I acted was despicable and I regret every bit of it. Yesterday after the Taichos meeting I went and visited Rose in the fourth. I guess I lost track of time. Then Rose woke up and wanted me to keep her company so I stayed the night with her. But I should have notified you and for that I am sorry." Explained Shunsui in a serious tone while looking Nanao straight in the eye.
"You don't have to explain. Ukitake has already told me everything…just, just don't do that again."
Shunsui walked forwards and pulled Nanao into a giant hug. "Nanao-Chan worries about me." He declared.
"Taicho!" growled Nanao before pulling out her fan and smacking Shunsui in the face again.
"Mean Nanao-Chan!"
"I take it that Rose is doing fine if you are so high spirited Sir." Said Nanao in the hopes of distracting her Taicho.
Shunsui paused and then smiled. "She will be fine."
"That is good to hear. The division will be ecstatic." Said Nanao in a crisp tone while straightening out her uniform.
Shunsui bounded towards the door and flung it open. "Then why must go tell them the good news."
"Erm, No Taicho…you see." Nanao pointed to the large pile of paperwork sitting on Shunsui's desk. "You have all this paperwork to do." She finish enjoying the look of shock and horror that spread across her superiors face.
"You want me to do all that?" Shunsui was aghast.
"Well yes, it is all your work…and you do sort of owe me after the way you have been acting recently." Explained Nanao in her crisp tone again.
Shunsui sighed in defeat before walking forwards and slumping down on his desk chair and pulled the first sheet of paperwork towards him. "Nanao-Chan I think that I am going to need a big, strong cup of tea." He said.
"I will go and make it, Sir." Shunsui watched as Nanao walked out of the room before turning back to the large pile of paperwork in front of him.
After checking over her wounds, Unohana left Rose alone in the room. She had announced that they were healing nicely and that Rose would most likely be able to leave by the end of the week. Unohana then proceeded to scold her for not eating, stating that it was important for her to eat a healthy diet if she was to recover fully. But that had been over two hours ago and now Rose was starting to feel very bored.
There was a knock on the door. "Enter," said Rose rather coldly expecting it to be the old nurse.
"Are you not happy to see me?"
Rose startled and looked towards the door and saw Hana standing in the doorway with a mock look of hurt on her face. "Sorry Hana, I thought you were somebody else."
"Oh really? And what would this mysterious person have done to deserve your ire? I hope it's not Kyoraku Taicho. But from what I heard he stayed the night with you so you can't be that angry with him." Hana walked forwards and sat down on the edge of the bed. "So how are you feeling?"
Rose smiled slightly at Hana's sincerity. Her friend was the type of person who really cared about the people around her. "Truthfully Hana, I have been better. But…I am going to be fine. Shunsui has been really supportive and caring towards me. And yes he did stay the night and it was wonderful to have him hold me so close."
"Well that is nice to hear and it is nice that you and Kyoraku Taicho got to spend some time together."
"Why do you say that?"
Hana looked troubled for a moment. "Well I don't know how much people have told you but when you went…missing Kyoraku Taicho was a real mess. He was silent and would walk around aimlessly for hours with a dark and melancholic aura around him. He was also drunk most of the time. Nanao and Ukitake Taicho were really worried about him. But now that you are back and awake Kyoraku-Taicho seems to have cheered up"
"I did hear about his drinking but I never knew it was that bad."
Hana smiled sympathetically. "It shows that he really cares about you."
"I know. But I just wish that he would not drink so much." Sighed Rose.
"At least now he has stopped." Smiled Hana.
"Yeah…so Hana what have you been up to? Any interesting gossip?"
"Well apart from doing paperwork I have been training with Ukitake Taicho. Which is proving to be an amazing experience and a very tiring one. He has taught me so many new awesome moves and kido." Hana's eyes lit up and sparkled when she talked about her training with Ukitake Taicho.
Rose was starting the feel very jealous. Although Shunsui was training her she always got the feeling that he was holding back. "That sounds very exciting."
"Isn't Kyoraku Taicho training with you?" asked Hana.
"Yes he is but he is constantly holding back." Sighed Rose dejectedly.
"But that is obvious, I mean you only started wielding a Zanpakuto a few months ago. I bet that as your skills improve he will go harder on you. I mean you have to walk before you can run." Hana explained sympathetically.
Rose smiled. "Yeah I guess that you are right."
The two of them spent the rest of the afternoon talking and laughing until Unohana turned up to inform Hana that the visiting hours had ended and that Rose needed her rest. Hana bid Rose goodbye and promised her that she could come and visit her the following day before leaving the room.
The next few days saw Rose getting better and better. Her physiotherapy session were going well and she was now able to walk (albeit slowly) on her own. In fact the only reason Unohana kept Rose in the fourth was because she wanted to make sure that she was mentally stable enough to function on her own. But now that Rose had been reunited with her Zanpakuto her health was improving at a faster rate. Just like Ukitake had said, Shunsui helped Rose during the day while Midnight Dancer protected her at night. Sometimes she had been unable to stop the nightmares from occurring thus resulting in Rose waking up screaming. But thankfully Shunsui was there to calm her down after she had woken up.
Rose's relationship with Shunsui was not strained or awkward like she had feared it would be upon waking up. Their relationship had changed, but not in a bad way. Rose now found it easier to open up to Shunsui and talk about her problems when in the past it had been rather difficult. Although Shunsui found it difficult to listen to the gruesome and terrible stories Rose would tell him, he would also feel happy as it showed that his lover trusted him deeply. The two of them would lie on the bed or sit outside on the porch together and when Rose would feel ready she would talk to Shunsui. Sometimes they would not discuss the past and would simple sit or lie together, usually sharing a delicate kiss and cuddle. However, anything beyond kissing and upper body touching was out of the question for Rose as she was still rather skittish. But Shunsui was patient and would not push her which she was grateful for.
Finally, after little over two weeks in hospital, Unohana informed Rose that she would be discharged the following day as she was fully healed. Shunsui was ecstatic and talking about holding a large party at the eighth in order to celebrate which made Nanao, who had turned up to asked Shunsui for his signature, to frown. Rose then reminded Shunsui of his promise to her to which he smiled in response and assured her the he would never break a promise. Especially to her.
So it was on Rose's last night in the fourth division did Shunsui turn up with a large box stuffed full of delightful little cakes (curtesy of Hana) and together they lounged on the bed eating them.
Now that her body was completely healed, Rose felt the need to fulfil something. A carnal need had risen within her over the last few days, crying out for release, but sadly she had been too weak to fulfil it. Shunsui had not helped dampen the need within her. Every night he would lounge next to her, touching and kissing her but never fulfilling the need within her. Rose was dying with the need for sex.
There was a comfortable silence between the two of them. Shunsui used this opportunity to feed Rose some cake. Rose opened her mouth and accepted the piece of cake Shunsui was offering her, making sure to lick his fingers teasingly. She had to tell him that she was ready for sex and the only way to do that was to show him her want for him.
He groaned and bent down and nibbled her ear. "Behave." He whispered teasingly before continuing to nibble.
"What if I don't want to?"
Shunsui paused and looked down at Rose and saw her brilliant blue eyes shining with lust and need. For the first time in several weeks he felt the need and want to be with her, in her, rise within him. He wanted her and by the looks of it she wanted him. With a grin he leaned down again and started to kiss her passionately, while one of his hands cupped her breast and started to play with it, pinching the nipple through the fabric of her bra and shirt. Rose mewled at the sensory overload, feeling it low in her abdomen. But Shunsui masterful ministration was still not enough for her, she needed more and was ready for more. She took hold of his hand which was still playing with her breast and then started to direct it towards a more interesting place down south. Shunsui paid no mind to her actions, it was not unusual for Rose to direct his hands to areas where she felt more comfortable with. So when his hands started to slip past Rose's panties and touch her down south he froze.
"Rose…You don't have to do this. I can wait until you are ready-ah!" Shunsui's words were cut off when his finger brushed against Rose's wet clit. Rose let out the most delicious gasp he had ever heard.
"Please Shun. I want this. I need this" She moaned while she and Shunsui's fingers sent waves of pleasure coursing through her body.
"But I don't want to force you into anything you are not ready for." Groaned Shunsui as he felt his member twitch.
Rose growled and did something which both shocked and aroused Shunsui. She pushed him roughly down on his back and then straddled him, while at the same time managing to remove her clothes. The sight of her in her white and blue polka dot underwear and bra made Shunsui's now rock hard member twitch. Rose gasped when she felt his member press up against her wet core.
"Now" She said in a business-like tone that was incredible sexy. "You are going to make love to me, otherwise I am going to sit here and pleasure myself while you watch."
Shunsui stared at Rose with an incredulous look on his face. But then his mouth opened in a wide grin
"You want me to make love to you?" He asked in a sultry voice that sent shivers up Rose back.
"Yes…but please be gentle…and me on top." She sounded so vulnerable when she said those words that Shunsui felt the urge to comfort her. So he sat up and kissed her on the lips lovingly.
"I will be as gentle as you want me to be and if you tell me to stop I will."
Rose nodded and then gasped when she felt Shunsui sink a finger into her hot core. The feeling was incredible and so, so right. Slowly Shunsui started to pump his finger inside of Rose, groaning at the wonderful feeling of her hot, wet core around him.
"More," she pleaded, so he sunk another finger inside of her, stroking and trusting up making her moan throatily. On top of him Rose was going wild, moaning loudly and burying her face into the crook of Shunsui neck. Wanting to make the experience even more pleasurable, Shunsui lifted Rose's head up and then pulled her forwards until one of her delicious breast were dangling in front of him. Slowly but surely Rose built up to her climax but just before she could come Shunsui stopped his ministration.

Shunsui grinned. "Patience my dear. I am still fully clothed." Rose looked down and saw him wink devilishly. With a growl full of lust and need she dived at his clothing and started to pull then off.
Shunsui chuckled. "So impatient." It was only when Rose started to violently pull at his Shihakushō bottoms did he start to help her. When his member finally sprang free Shunsui chuckled at his lover's shocked expression as she was once again reminded of how big he really was.
With a firm grip, Shunsui grabbed Rose's hips and slowly positioned her over his straining member. Rose moaned loudly as she sank onto Shunsui's member, deliciously stretching her. Shunsui paused once he was fully seated inside his lover, waiting for her to adjust to his size. With a gentle nod Rose informed her lover that she was ready. Rose threw her head back and cried out as her body experienced yet another release. Shunsui watched as Rose came before finally allowing himself to come. Slowly Rose lifted her head up and stared at him with a huge smile on her face. Her body and eyes were shinning in a gorgeous post-orgasmic glow. With as little movement as possible she scooted up and kissed Shunsui on the lips, reassuring him that she was Ok. Shunsui grinned and hugged her close to his body. He was so happy. Kurosawa was dead, Kagawa was going to spend the rest of his life in the Maggots Nest and his darling Rose was safe and in his arms where she belonged. Life could not get any better.
Ukitake sat in Unohana's office, a cup of tea in his hands. He had gone to the fourth to pick up his medicine and had then decided to pay Rose a visit. He would most likely bump into Shunsui, who was rarely seen away from his 'darling Rose'. However, upon arriving outside the room where Rose and Shunsui were located he heard some suspicious noised coming from within. Loud moaning could be heard and there was the suspicious sound of a bed creaking. It did not take a genius to work out what Rose and Shunsui were doing so Ukitake turned round and left them to their business. While heading for the exit of the fourth division, Ukitake ran into Unohana who then offered him a cup of tea in her quarters.
The two of them sat round the coffee table and talked about everything and anything, trying to avoid the growing sexual tension between them. How long had it been since he had held his beautiful Retsu in his arms? Ukitake drained the last of his tea before bidding Unohana goodnight and standing up. He had just reached the door when he heard Unohana call out his name.
"Jushiro." Ukitake turned around and saw Unohana stretching out her hand towards him. "Come I am not finished with you for tonight."
Ukitake smiled and took Unohana's hand and allowed himself to be dragged into the lady's bedroom.
