Chapter 507

The funeral for Rupert Giles was held on Monday May 20th. It had been naive of Buffy to think she could cheat death like that. Giving Faith CPR was one thing, but there were many limits to the slayer's power. Jenny, Buffy, Xander, Willow, Wesley, many others showed up to pay their final respects and mourn their friend. Giles' old friend Robert Carlyle came from England for this. Ben didn't say anything, but silently he felt a bit relieved. Giles had always seemed frightening to him for some unnknown reason. Jenny felt it should've been her who died, not Rupert. Buffy tried to comfort her, but for some reason, she also felt it should've been Jenny. Denver performed the funeral service, and tried to comfort the mourners. Ethan Rayne showed up, promised Jenny he was just here to pay his respects. Jenny said he could stay, as long as he was silent and respectful. Today, Ethan was on his best behavior. They had the Chalice assembled. Quentin Travers was coming to explain how to use it. But without Giles, this seemed impossible. Things in Sunnydale seemed very dark right now. Then the darkness became literal. Before the funeral was over the sun became very dark. A solar eclipse was relatively short, but this didn't end. What happenned to the sun to bring about perpetual darkness? Was this perhaps another sign that the world was about to end?
