Chapter 512

As a child in the 18th century Daniel Holtz heard the legend of the Spartan 300. How they gave their lives at Thermopoly to save Greece. While Holtz slept there were other instances of smaller forces standing up to much larger invading armies. Like the Alamo or the Warsaw ghetto uprising. These stories were inspiring. Unfortunately none of these were well know because the little guy won. They were remembered because against impossible odds the underdog fought well, before being completely slaughtered. Still, Holtz understood the mentality. If defeat was inevitable, and the only options were death or enslavement, you might as well go down fighting, take down as many enemies as possible. The end was coming. If the slayer was fleeing, what hope did the world have? Vampires would come to a town without sunlight. Civilians would easily get picked off. Benjamin was one of the few remaining doctors in Sunnydale. Even if it was hopeless Ben wanted to spend hi final days helping people. Holt and Benjamin respected each other, agreed to watch out for each other as much as possible in the final days. If they were all going to die, they would at least die on their own terms.
