Kate Lockley arrived at the house just in time. Lucy and her husband were already packing up with little Trevor. With the darkness spreading beyond Sunnydale people in L.A. were fleeing. Kate didn't know where they were taking Trevor, but she needed to see her son, one last time. If Robert Snyder wasn't here with her, Kate doubted that she'd have the strength to do this. When Lucy saw Kate, she was worried. Could Kate be back for the child she gave them years ago. Kate explained why she was here. She wanted to give Lucy and her husband some money, and a little toy for Trevor, if they'd allow it. But Kate knew she wasn't particularly maternal. Trevor wasn't hers anymore, he didn't even know he was adopted. But Kate was staying in Sunnydale, going to do what she could. If she nevercame back, she just needed to see him one last time. With Lucy's permission Kate talked to Trevor, gave him the toy, and walked away. Kate knew she had to get her head back in the game. To dedicate herself full-heartedly to the final battle.
