Hey - is anyone else having trouble with FF? I'm not getting notices or reviews in my email and it messed up my formatting. It could be the poltergeist in my computer - but I was curious if others were having problems.
She ended up moving back to her house after all. It wasn't that things were going badly – in fact, it was just the opposite. Things were going very well, great even. The problem was they had promised each other to go slow and living in the same house was making that all but impossible.
Fortunately, both of them were too experienced, too wise to jump into things, or each other, this soon. They knew they needed to spend time redefining their relationship and sleeping together, before they were on steadier ground, could have serious and unpleasant consequences. If for some reason they didn't work, it was better not to have gone there.
Still, it was hard – very hard. She giggled as she fixed herself a cup of tea. She knew Jack was miserable – heck so was she. But it was a good miserable, if that were possible. They had hope and a future to look forward to. So what if they had to wait a little while to consummate things. As far as she was concerned, it would make the right moment even better.
Who was she kidding, she groaned? She was horny as hell and wanted him with a passion and intensity that frightened her. It was just about all she could think about and her imagination had begun to do some seriously strange things. She'd started avoiding him at the SGC, so worried was she that she was going to grab him, throw him to the ground and screw the hell out of him right there, in front of Siler, Walter and any Airman who happened to be present.
She laughed softly and laid her head on the counter. It must be pregnancy hormones, she decided. Nothing else could explain the constant state of arousal she was in. Maybe she should ask Janet – oh yeah, now there's a smart move Carter! Then she'd have to tell Janet why she was having all these dreams and desires. The woman was incorrigible and would worm it out of her in a second. Pretty soon the whole base would know she and Jack were dating.
They were dating! God – who would have thought, when she walked into the briefing room all those years ago, that one day he'd be dating his 2IC – his former 2IC? He still found it pretty unbelievable – nice – but unbelievable. Nice? Hell, that was the understatement of the century. Dating Sam was – was better than – hell, then ridding the world of the Goa'uld, discovering how to knock Teal'c out, or making Danny spurt milk out his nose. Yup, he was one happy man dating Sam Carter.
He was also horny - and it was becoming very uncomfortable. He had started to avoid Sam at the SGC because he was afraid that he might grab her and – and Hammond wouldn't be at all happy to have his base turned into Jack's Pleasure Palace and Bordello. Nope – he had to stay away from Carter when on base. She was just way too tempting.
The other problem, of course, was that they hadn't told anyone yet. They'd decided to keep it to themselves for a while. They figured that it would be easier to get to know one another in this new way without all their friends looking over their shoulders, making obnoxious suggestions and basically teasing the crap out of them. Jack grinned evilly. And then there was the fact that he enjoyed pulling something over on his friends. He was positive they didn't know anything and he couldn't wait to surprise them.
Sam's phone rang and she looked towards it with a slight smirk. She knew who was calling. She hadn't talked to him for at least an hour and knew he'd be getting antsy. He was like a little boy, she thought. He couldn't wait for treats and in this case she was the treat. It was intoxicating.
"Hello Jack", she picked up the receiver. "What's up?"
"How did you know it was me?" he asked, sounding slightly peeved.
"Well, besides the fact that I have call display – okay, okay, so you blocked your number – but I know your ring."
"Oh." There was a pause. "Wait! My ring is the same as everyone's on your land line.
"Well then, maybe I'm psychic?"
"Carter, what you are is a -" there was silence on the phone.
"I'm what Jack?" she asked with a laugh. This was so much fun.
"You're a beautiful woman Sam – and you know I'm going to have to get you the next time I see you!"
"I look forward to it Sir."
"Sir?" They'd worked really hard to get over the titles and formality they'd grown used to, although he still called her Carter on occasion. It was usually to tease her, or when he was trying to remember that no, he couldn't see her naked and kiss her all over – at least not yet. But she hadn't called him 'Sir' in a few days.
"Well – you sounded like you wanted to discipline me so I thought 'Sir' was appropriate."
"Hmm, sounds interesting." His eyebrows were lost somewhere on the top of his head, where they'd shot at her tone of voice.
"It does, doesn't it?" She sounded completely hot and sexy and naughty and – oh God, he was gonna die! "So Colonel whatcha doing?"
Besides sitting here in pain? "Uh – just talking to you my dear", he told her with his Lon Chaney voice. "But what I'd really like to be doing -"
"Yes?" she asked at his hesitation.
"Sorry – can't say it over the phone. I could come over and show you?"
She laughed at that, and almost succumbed – but really, for their first time together she wanted it to be special and right now she was sitting in sweat pants and her hair was a mess. "As much as I'd like that Jack, I think we'd better -"
"Wait?" he sighed. "Okay, but you know you're killin' me, right?"
"It's hard for me too."
He laughed at that. "Oh, not nearly as hard as it is for me Sam."
She giggled, feeling like a teenaged girl with her first boyfriend. The innuendoes were silly and probably immature – but she loved them and she was pretty sure she was madly in love with him. And good things come to those that wait – or they'd better or she was going to be really pissed!
"I'd better go Carter", he sighed.
"Really?" She sounded disappointed.
"Yeah – I have to – uh – go do something right now."
"Oh, and what is that Jack", she asked, laughter thick in her voice.
"Samantha Carter, you are pure evil – and I will see you tomorrow on base."
"Yes you will. Think of me?"
"You can be sure I will Sam! Goodnight babe!"
"Goodnight." She put the phone down gently, a faraway look on her face. This was crazy! They'd gone slow enough and it was time to move things forward. She really couldn't take the tension anymore. But how to tell Jack ….?
"Aaaargh!" He couldn't keep doing this. He was crazy in love with the woman – and she was the most gorgeous, sexy thing he'd ever seen and he wanted her now!" He was half tempted to get up – if he could, although right now it probably wasn't possible – and go over to her place and tell her enough was enough and he damn well wanted to sleep with her!
How romantic Jack, he sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He needed to do this right. She deserved romance and flowers and a good meal and a good f – stop! You are so bad! Get your mind out of the gutter and on the woman who deserves your respect and consideration and a good f –
He finally stood up and limped his way to the bathroom. Enough was definitely enough.
The next day, when Sam walked into her office, it was to see an envelope propped up on her computer. Wondering only very briefly who this could be from, she smiled and picked it up. Giving a quick glance around to make sure no one was lurking close by, she slit the envelope open and took out – an invitation card?
What the -? She glanced down at it and then smiled. It was from Jack – and it was an invitation to dinner, a show (a live one) and dancing in Denver! Wow – he was really planning to do it right. At the bottom was a short note to say that he'd get them rooms for the night so they didn't have to drive back too late. She noticed that the 's' in rooms had brackets around it. She wondered if that was his attempt to find out if she'd be willing to share with him, or if she wanted her own room. She frowned for a moment and then a slow smile appeared on her face. "You are a devil Jack O'Neill", she whispered.
"What's he done this time?" Daniel's voice interrupted her thoughts. He sauntered around the corner, looking at her curiously. He'd clearly heard her last comment.
"Oh – the Colonel asked me to check on one of Felgar's experiments", she improvised quickly. "He knows how much I hate that."
"Tell him to take a flying leap", Daniel suggested. "He's not your CO anymore."
"No Daniel", she turned her chair to look at him. "But he is a superior officer and second in command of this base. He can order me to do things."
"Bummer! I thought you could start giving him a hard time now."
"Oh, I do", she said, turning away so he couldn't see her naughty grin. "I definitely do."
Jack was right, she thought as she ate lunch with the guys. Neither Daniel nor Teal'c had a clue. Mind you, they were particularly careful, when on base or in the presence of others, not to act any differently around one another than they always had. She did want to kick Jack when he tried to play footsie with her in the Commissary, but she seemed to have pulled it off, simply claiming she had a Charlie horse when Daniel asked why she'd yelped. She'd give Jack hell later.
She figured it was about time to tell them, though. They'd get offended if they left it too much longer and she didn't know how long she could continue to pretend. She'd have to ask Jack about how they were going to tell them the next time they went on a date. She giggled at that thought, insanely happy, and had to explain to Daniel that she was thinking about Felgar's experiment. Poor Felgar – he was getting blamed for a lot lately.
Jack pulled at the collar of his suit. He hadn't worn the thing for months and it felt like it was strangling him. He'd wanted this evening to be perfect, so he'd dressed in a black suit, complete with a black shirt and black tie (so sue him – Sam had said once she found men dressed all in black to be sexy). It also went well with his silver hair – not that he thought about that of course. It was just something that women tended to notice.
They'd decided to dress before going, although they were each bringing an overnight bag. Jack was extraordinarily nervous about this whole thing. He didn't know what she'd do if he suggested they stay together and he'd booked a two room suite just in case. He couldn't help but hope though, that tonight might be the night. He took one last look in the mirror and headed towards his truck. Be courageous Jack, he told himself. You can do this.
"You look nice", she said when she answered the door. She then looked surprised when he handed her the roses. "How sweet", she smiled, holding the flowers to her nose. "These are beautiful. Thank you." She reached over and gave him a soft kiss on the mouth. "Let me put them in water, and then we can go."
He watched as she walked away from him, totally stunned by the gorgeous vision that was his girlfriend! God – she was beautiful and she was dressed all in black – in a skin tight, leave nothing to the imagination, heat producing (in him) dress. "Uh", he cleared his throat. "You look gorgeous", he told her when she returned. "no – you look – stunning." He leaned down for another kiss. "I can't believe how lucky I am."
"Oh yes I can", she murmured into his lips, "because I'm just as lucky!"
They had a wonderful evening together – going to a wonderful new Thai restaurant, followed by an evening watching a live production of South Pacific. She'd once mentioned that she loved old Broadway musicals and he'd remembered and bought tickets for the show. It was one of her favorites, and she cried and laughed her way through it.
"That was amazing!" she told him as they made their way out of the theater. She linked arms through his. "Thank you – this had been such a fantastic evening."
"I'm glad", he said simply, for once not being humorous or flippant. "you're a special lady and I wanted to give you a special evening."
"And you did", she leaned closer to him. "Thank you."
They walked back to their hotel, which was only a couple of blocks from the theater, both growing more quiet the closer they got.
As they made their way up the elevator, Sam found herself getting more and more nervous. She'd noted that they were in a suite – and Jack had told her the main room had a pull-out bed. He hadn't said anymore and she wondered again if this was his way of letting her decide, or at least be the one to make the first move.
Trouble was, she didn't know if she could! She suddenly felt like a shy young girl, on her first real date with a man. She wanted to shake herself. She should just turn to him and say in a clear voice – 'make love with me Jack'. Instead she was standing there ready to run screaming down the hall.
"Let me take your coat. Do you want a drink?"
It was only then that she saw the bucket standing there, a bottle of champagne sticking out of it. Beside that there was a tray of snacks. "Wow", she looked up. "I wasn't expecting this."
"I told you, I wanted this to be special for you. And besides that", he grinned, "I'm hungry!"
She laughed. "Of course you are!"
They settled down on the couch in the main room and each had a glass of champagne. They both tried to eat the food, but neither was that hungry due to the tension in the room.
"So – I'm gonna change", Jack finally said, standing up. "I can only wear a suit for so many hours before I start to dissolve."
"Really? Like the Wicked Witch of the West?"
"Exactly", he grinned. They all knew he was a Wizard of Oz fanatic
"So, what does that make me?"
"You? Oh, you're Dorothy", he said softly, "definitely Dorothy."
"Are you telling me that if I click my heels together three times, I'll get my fondest wish?"
"Of course", he grinned. "Do you want to go to Kansas?"
"No", she stood up and walked slowly over to him. Stopping directly in front of him she clicked her heels together, three times. "There's no one like Jack, there's no one like Jack, there's no one like Jack." She then leaned forward and gave him a gentle kiss. "And my fondest wish? That he take me into the bedroom and have his wicked, wicked way with me!"
It was surprising – shocking really – how a grown man, a Colonel in the United States Air Force, a decorated war hero, could lose the ability to think, to talk or hell- even to breathe. He swallowed – at least he could still do that. "Uh", he croaked, "really?"
"Oh yeah", she leaned over and put her head on his chest and her arms around him, "really."
"Well okay then", his amazed expression turned to one of joy. He quickly bent and placed his arms behind her back and her knees and lifted her up. "Come on Dorothy", he whispered into her ear, "let's go be wicked together."
And they were ….!
Okay – for those of you who like a bit of passion and lust – if I get lots of reviews I might just write that chapter and not leave it to your imagine. Pure, unadulterated blackmail on my part I know! I am shameless and proud of it. V.
