Cato POV:
Clove doesn't like the idea at all, but we have to go along with it. If we said no, we would be at a disadvantage and plus all of them would be right next to us. One flick of Johanna's and Finnick's wrists, and we would both be dead. At 10 we start to head to the lightning tree. I take Clove's hand as we walk, I know that she's nervous. Beetee leads the way to the tree, with a smile on his face. Finnick and Johanna also have smiles on their faces, even though I don't know why. If this works then it'll be all of us left. I'll sacrifice myself for Clove in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure that she'll be okay with that. I look over to her, maybe when we're at the tree it's all a trick and they team up and kill us. If they team up, I will die protecting her, and I'll never be able to see her beautiful face again. I look at her porcelain skin, dirty with mud and blood. I admire her raven hair and I look at her gorgeous green eyes that I hope our future child will have. I look at her slim but muscular body, that now is carrying our child. I watch her lips, full and delicious, I want to kiss her so badly.
"Stop staring," Clove says, still looking straight ahead, but with a smile on her face.
"Why?" I ask her.
"It's weird," she just answers.
"Your beautiful, I can't help but stare," I say. She looks at me and scoffs.
"Yeah, with the blood, dirt, and who knows what else in my face. My knotted hair and my baby bump, yeah so beautiful," she says.
"No, your beautiful Clover," I say, stopping and kissing her. She pulls away first and pecks me again, then continues walking.
"Come on lover birds! I want to get up this hill and leave as soon as I can!" Johanna yells. I just roll my eyes and we continue walking. When we finally get up there, Beetee looks up at the tree and pats it lovingly. He starts to set up stuff and wrap his wire around the tree while we all stand guard. Why he needs all of these guards is beyond me, but this is his plan. When he finally finished, 11 booms of the clock signals the time.
"Okay, this is how it's gonna go. Johanna and Clove, you take this rope, make sure that it doesn't twist or get stuck and run it into the lake. Then run to the 3 o'clock section where we'll meet," Beetee instructs. Me and Clove share a look.
"I'll come with them too," I volunteer, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"No you don't, you stay here with Finnick and Haymitch, I need to be guarded," he responds quickly.
"No, I go with Clove," I say.
"Yeah, Finnick and Haymitch can guard you just fine," Clove says.
"No, I need a lot of guards," Beetee says, "You agreed to my plan, and this is it." I'm about to protest when Finnick says.
"Is there a problem here?"
"I'll be right back Cato, okay?" Clove says, stroking my face.
"But I want to go with you," I whined.
"I want you to go with me too, but this is Beetee's plan. I'll be fine, I'll see you at 3, okay?" she asks.
"Okay," I say. I lean over to peck her. I pull away and look at her.
"Let's go!" Johanna yells. Clove turns to her, takes out a knife and follows Johanna into the woods.
Clove POV:
I look over at Cato one last time and I disappear into the jungle. Johanna took the wire and is going through the woods. We take turns, alternating. We get to these big rocks and I hand Johanna my knifes when I walk across. She gives them back right afterward, now I know that I can trust her okay. But why would they want to separate us? What if they kill Cato? He's a good fighter, but 3-1? That's not fair. And Johanna could probably kill me easily, in these rocks, my baby is already slowing me down. We're walking when the wire stops moving. I tug at it but it's not moving. I look over to Johanna who looks conflicted. I push it aside and try to get the rope. I approach the rope slowly, and take out a knife, before I can, Johanna grabs me. I think she's trying to save me, but she throws me to the ground. Luckily, my knife landed in the ground instead of on me.
"Shhhh," she says. She then takes the metal that was holding the wire and bashes it onto my head. I see black spots in my vision as I try to get up. Johanna then grabs a knife from her back pocket and plunges it into my arm. I scream as I feel the knife twisting and moving. Blood is everywhere and all I can see if Johanna with a look of concentration on her face. I'm blacking out when I feel something come out of my arm.
"Stay down," she whispers, I feel her dip her hand into my wound and wipe all of the blood on my neck and my fore head. She then grabs a stick and throws it, and yells "Over here!" Then she runs away. I'm confused, until I hear voices. They sound vaguely familiar, but I can't open my eyes right now.
"She's as good as dead," I hear a male say.
"Who else was here? Someone cut her," a female says. I groan.
"Let's just leave her," he says,
"No, let's kill her," the woman argues.
"No, the tribute who killed her is way more dangerous then her. Clove must put up a good fight," the male says.
"Fine," the female voice says, and they run into the woods, leaving me to bleed. I sit up, dazed. I need to get up, to see Cato. I stand up, steadying myself on a tree. Then I hear a scream and a cannon.
"Cato!" I scream. The alliance has broken.
