Almost July 4th, can't wait. Also, yesterday was Gay Pride day, so to whoever celebrated, I hope you had fun.
Cato POV:
A week has passed since I woke up in the rebel helicopter. I got out of the hospital 5 days ago, and now I wander around aimlessly until curfew. People try to talk to me, but I don't respond. I just think of Clove. I really hope that she is alright and that they didn't hurt her. I also hope that the baby is okay. Finnick has tried to talk to me and cheer me up, and I talk to him too. But that's only because he knows how I feel during this week. He tells me all about Annie and how they met. I was surprised, out of all the woman in the Capital, Finnick chose a poor mad girl from his District. I tell him about Clove, and how she isn't as heartless as she presents herself. Alma Coin, the president of District 13, introduced herself when I first arrived. She made me a soldier in one of the highest rankings. District 13 is underground and there are rules forbidding us to go outside. But of course, I go out anyways.
"Ludwig," Ky Markham sarcastically salutes. Ky Markham is back. District 2 was bombed for rebellion, so District 2 fled to District 13.
"Markham," I don't even salute.
"Ludwig, report to Communication Room immediately," the voice of Alma Coin announces. I push past Ky and walk into the Communication Room. Inside, I see Brutus, Haymitch, Enobaria, Finnick, Plutarch, and Alma, along with a group of doctors in white. I don't even notice Beetee until he starts talking.
"Cato, we were able to get into the Capital's broadcasts," he says with a smile.
"And?" I ask.
"Well Clove and Annie are supposed to be interviewed in a couple of minutes. The doctors are here to visually check their health," Beetee says. The head doctor comes up and introduces himself.
"I'm Doctor Asgar," he shakes my hand. I hear a beeping and look up to the screen. The Capital's seal comes up and the anthem. Then Caesar Flickerman appears on the screen, with dark blue hair.
"Hello!" he shouts in his cheerful voice, "Are you ready to see Clove Sevina and Annie Cresta?" The crowd shouts and screams in excitement. "Well here they are!" My heart beats quickly, anxious to see Clove. Annie walks out on the screen first. She's dressed in a sea green dress, which complements the white carpet. She looks fine, she's clean and her hair is brushed. Annie's arm is outstretched as if she's pulling someone. After a couple of seconds, I see Clove, being pulled by Annie. My heart stops. Clove has on a white dress and her hair is up in a high bun. As Clove walks, she has a limp, but she tries to hide it. My Clove is too skinny, which makes her baby bump stand out even more. I understand why they chose white, to make the scars stand out. Her arms, legs and face are covered in scars, burns, and bruises. When she turns around to sit down, with the help of Annie, I see her back. It's covered in whip marks. I want to throw up. Her hair is up and her dress shows her whole back, to make sure that the scars are visible to all of Panem. Clove's cheeks are hollow and her green eyes, look dead. Her eyes are darting all over the place, nervous of something.
"So Clove and Annie, how has the Capital been treating you?" Caesar asks, with a smile.
"The Capital has treated us..." Clove looks conflicted, "well. President Snow has been very... kind," she finishes. I can tell that she's reading off of something Snow has written. When Clove talks, her voice sounds cracky.
"And Annie, what do you think of the Capital?" Caesar asks the healthier brown haired girl.
"It's, fine," she stutters out.
"Clove, how is the baby?"
"Cato's child is fine," she says nervously.
"Speaking of Cato, you know that he's moved on, right?" Caesar asks. Clove's eyes show hurt and it breaks my heart.
"No, he wouldn't, he loves me," she says surly.
"Cato doesn't love you, Clove," Caesar says gently.
"He does love me, you're lying!" Clove yells, she looks like she's on the verge of tears. It hurts to think that she even believes that.
"Oh Clove. Any final comments before we finish this interview?" he asks, knowing her answer. Clove sits up straight and looks right at the camera.
"REBELS, KEEP FIGHTING! DON'T GIVE UP! THE CAPITAL WILL BOMB DISTRICT 13 TOMORROW AT NOON!" she screams. She's about to continue saying something, but a peacekeepers grabs her and takes out his baton, and the other his whip. I watch is horror as the camera is still on and the peacekeepers raise their weapons. They both bring the whip and baton down on her. They continue whipping her and beating her, also kicking her. She screams in agony as they continue, showing no mercy.
"Cato!" she screams. I tear up. She needs me to rescue her, but instead I'm in District 13. The white carpet is now stained with my love's blood. The only thing I can do is watch when a peacekeeper raises his gun and shoots her twice in the shoulder. She screams louder then ever, then passes out. Her shoulder is oozing blood.
"NO!" I scream. I can't do anything, I should be there instead of her. A timid peacekeeper walks up to her and takes her pulse, he pales.
"There's barley a pulse," he tells the other peacekeepers. They then carry out her bloody form, taking Annie with them. Snow walks out from the shadows smiling sickly.
"If you continue fighting this rebellion, Clove, Johanna, Annie, or the unborn child will die," then the camera turns off, leaving the Communication Room dark.
