Cardinal Wolsey was not invited back to court. He was arrested and taken to the tower of London to be tried for treason when it became common knowledge that he had been conspiring with Catherine to try and get back into the King's good graces. During his time in the tower Wolsey commit suicide. He slit his own throat knowing that he would rather face an eternity in Hell and die at his own hand than be tried for treason and found guilty. If he had have been found guilty he would have been burnt, beheaded or hanged and he did not want to have to face that so he took his own life and although the two of them had never particularly warmed to each other Isabella did feel sorry for the Cardinal when she heard the news of his death.

Henry seemed to be genuinely upset by the thought that the Cardinal had died but seemed more interesting in covering up how it was he had died. It would not do well for a Cardinal of his standing to be remembered as one who took his own life – it wasn't befitting. It would also not do well for Henry to be seen to have driven a man to suicide, or that someone he had sentenced to death had chosen to go against him and take his death into his own hands, defying him and the law.

Anne continued to flaunt her relationship with Henry in public, even going as far as to wear purple (the colour of Royalty) and to express a desire to see Catherine dead. She openly said that she would rather see the Queen hanged than acknowledge her as her mistress. If she had not been in such good favour with His Majesty the King this statement alone would also have been taken as an act of treason and an offence punishable by death but it was Anne who had said it – she had the King's affection and therefore had immunity. The likelihood was that Anne would soon be the next Queen of England; Henry would get his divorce from Catherine one way or another and the two of them had already taken their relationship to a physical level.

Anne had allowed Henry to have intercourse with her but she did not allow him to finish the deed (presumably for fear of getting pregnant out of wedlock in Isabella's opinion) which frustrated Henry greatly. In this situation he normally would have gone to Isabella to vent his frustration and she would listen to him rant and then give him his release – the release he so desired. This time however he did not ask her to sleep with him.

"I have promised Anne that she shall be the only one; that I will sleep with no other woman while we are waiting to be wed." he told her after he had explained what had transpired between the two of them.

"This is not news to me Your Majesty." Isabella stated rolling her eyes slightly. "You have told me of the situation between yourself and the Lady Anne many times before."

"But this time it is different Isabella." he exclaimed, his frustration ringing in his voice.

"I don't particularly see how it is." she replied, for once deciding to voice her opinion on the subject. "If you still want to make her your wife after the divorce between you and Catherine is granted then I can see no difference. All I can see is that Anne did not want to accidentally fall pregnant before becoming your wife as if she did and gave birth to a son he would still be considered a bastard in the eyes of the law as the child was born out of wedlock meaning that the child would not be a legitimate heir to Your Majesty. After all that is what Anne desires most, is it not; to produce an heir for Your Highness." Isabella explained. As she spoke a small part of her was wondering why on earth she was defending Anne considering the misery she was causing Catherine and the rest of the country.

Henry sighed and rubbed his face in tiredness – the events of the last couple of days had taken its toll on him and he occasionally had to remind himself that he was, in fact, mortal and needed to rest. He also had to remind himself that he was getting older. He turned back to Isabella and went and sat down next to her.

"You are right, as always, Isabella." he stated. She smiled at him.

"Your Majesty asked for my opinion and, for once, I freely gave it." she replied. Henry cupped her face and pressed a light kiss to her forehead. He looked into her eyes for a few moments and then sighed. Isabella could not tell if he was thinking about all the years they had wasted by her refusing to marry him when they were eighteen. The more she thought about it the prospect of him thinking that seemed unlikely – Henry was infatuated with Anne, so much so that he was willing to split apart the Catholic Church in order to divorce Catherine, and nothing that Isabella could do now was going to change that.

"If the rest of my court were just like you I would have a lot less trouble than I currently do." Henry stated after his moment of silence. Isabella chuckled.

"That may be true but the rest of Your Majesty's court would not listen to me as I am a woman and am not of noble birth."

"To hell with what the rest of the court thinks; you are more intelligent and level headed than all of those men put together." he said. Isabella smiled and averted her eyes, shyly.

"Thank you Your Majesty but I am content with my place in the world." she told him. "As long as I am near you I have no cause to be unhappy." Henry smiled and kissed her lips softly, a kiss from one friend to another.

"Then neither do I." he replied.
