Here ya go guys! Enjoy! Please review! :D
To say he was miserable would probably be the biggest understatement he'd ever hear. Squint had been hit the hardest with her kidnapping- they were the closest. He was the one that came across her on land, the one that had soothed her as just a hungry little orphan laying there in the grass. He was the one that tucked her in every night, told her stories, comforted her when she woke up screaming and crying from nightmares. He was the one she'd beg to sleep with on cold, stormy nights when she was little. He was the one that helped her train, taught her to hop, and taught her to talk. He was the one that reacted the fiercest if he caught her within 10 feet of a boy, the one that stressed over her feelings and well-being the most. He thought of nothing except his baby sister's safety most of the time. Ways to make her smile, ways to make her laugh. He knew her best; he loved her the most. But now…
Now she was gone.
He'd failed her- plain and simple. It was his job as her big brother to protect her, let no harm come to her, and yet… she'd been stolen right off their deck. The enemy's ship has disappeared faster than should have been possible, sailing away at unnatural speeds into the misty bank, and they soon lost her. Even her shrieks; screaming some not-so-nice words at her attackers, faded away too quick for comfort.
It had been nearly a week, and it couldn't hurt more. It felt like he'd been bitten by a poisonous snake (which had happened before, twice); he felt slow and confused, yet his heart beat quicker than usual, spreading the poison of depression and guilt through his veins as it slowly tore at his body's defenses, making him crumble into nothing, venomous despair and guilt destroying him. He wished he could hear her voice, calling for them to come save her. He wished he could hear her laughing at his antics, or his brawls with Gupta, which hadn't occurred since she'd bee taken. They just didn't have the heart to fight anymore. Nothing was the same anymore. Even Shira, who usually couldn't stand him, didn't bother him with her taunts.
"Hey Squint."
Oh wait. He took that back.
"What?" He turned away from the saber, glaring down at the waves sloshing lazily far below beneath his feet. "What could you possibly wat?" he really was in no mood for company and was very irritable- even more so than usual- and had nearly taken Silas's eye out when he tried to talk to him yesterday.
She sniffed and rolled her blue eyes, muttering "And people wonder why I don't like you."
"Feelings' mutual."
She sneered at him. "I don't have to take disrespect from you, bunny boy. Just because you miss Raz-"
He shoved his knife in her face. "Back off saber." He growled. "And don't talk about my sister." Lowering his blade, he stalked away, throwing "I'm not in the mood." back at her. She could only gape in shock.
…
Squint sighed, standing outside the doorway, leaning on his knife. He debated- should he go inside? He hadn't been in there in forever- Raz was very touchy about her space. She never let anyone in unless she went in and, well… he wasn't really sure. But there had to be something… he just wanted to remember. He wasn't going to snoop; he just had to see something of her or he'd lose his sanity- or whatever was left, anyway.
Sighing, he pushed open the icy door, which was attached by vine-hinges that let it swing freely. Thankfully it wasn't latched; no one dared touch anything of Raz's
It looked the same as he remembered the last time he'd been in, almost half a year before, when she'd been troubled by unpleasant dreams. Not scary, per say, but unpleasant just the same. He could sense those kinds of things- twenty years of practice made it easy enough. So, he'd brought her a cup of warm coconut milk and had her tell him about it; apparently, something about that old sea legend, the Sea Scepter or whatever. He sighed as he remembered; she still had such a vivid imagination.
He padded in, footsteps silent, looking around. Her room was girly then one might expect from a pirate; Raz had a thing for flowers. She had them planted in every available space, from tiny shells to large hollowed boulders. Even a small log had a bunch of purple bellflowers sprouting from it. He remembered how, when she was little, she liked to go frolic in the flowery meadows every time they went on land, and she's convince him to make her necklaces or bracelets. Everywhere they went, she always brought a new sapling to add to her collection. She had sunflowers and roses, hibiscus and zinnias, poppy's and morning glory's, and more. Many more. They tolerated it because one, it made her happy, and two… well, they smelled nice. Breathing too much salty air could make a person seasick, but a single Whiff of the youngest member's indoor garden could instantly cure a seasick stomach. And, really, what harm could it do?
Aside from the flowers, she had a single box, displayed proudly on a little shelf beside her bed. In it were her collection of pearls- she'd loved them from the first time he and Gupta had cracked open an oyster and showed it to her. They ranged from fingernail size to nearly as big as a fist (that oyster had been huge!).
As he wandered in, something caught his attention. At the edge of her bed, half covered with a blanket, was… oh, what were those things called? It had a leather covered that folded over a bunch of leaves neatly held within by three vine ties through the whole thing. It was quite thick, nearly half as tall as he was!
He took a closer look, the fur blanket poorly covering it, as if it had been thrown on hastily. He dragged the cover of it away and found himself staring at the first leaf page. He began flipping through the pages; they went from sloppy little drawings telling odd little stories to words, which slowly became neater and more eligible. It was only when he saw, signed neatly at the base of one leafy page with what looked like- was that squid ink? Where had she gotten her hands on that?- Raz's name. he dropped his knife in surprise as he realized what it was.
He'd just been looking through his sister's diary.
Uh oh! Now he's in trouble! And he said he wouldn't snoop! XD
Please review! Hope ya'll liked it- this was cuz a certain someone- I won't name names- was wondering about the crew! This isn't exactly the whole crew, but hey. It gave you a bit of an insight into his head and how he's responding to the whole situation.
