Here I am again! Enjoy this!
Opal was surprised to find herself back in Raz's bedroom. The torches was out, and the walls had turned black and blood red, indicating her final feelings of fear. That awful staff they'd found still lay abandoned against one wall; none dare touch it.
As she landed softly of the floor, she instinctively scurried away and hid behind one of the many chests of treasures. "Wh- Why did you bring me here?" she squeaked out, shaking slightly, afraid. "Whaddo ya want with me?"
"At ease, my dear." Slowly, the chest slid away. She wilted, pressing herself against the wall, her ears low, trembling. "We aren't going to hurt you." His smile was gentle.
She swallowed audibly, twiddling her fingers. "Why did you bring me back here? Entry to this room is forbidden anymore!"
Slowly, he reached out and picked her up, and she flinched. A gentle finger scratched behind her ear, n that special spot Raz had found for her… she couldn't help melting. A soft chuckle met her ears. "There now, that's better."
"Wh- Why am I here?"
"Child" each brother summoned a simple chair to sit in. Opal was treated to her own, just her size, perched on the arm rest of the sandy covered one. "I have seen something in you- something very special and extremely rare.
"Who…" Opal placed a hand on her chest confusedly. "Me?" they nodded, and she couldn't help but giggle. "But- but I'm not anything special… I'm just well, me."
"True, you are you. And that is what's special."
"Um… I don't… don't think I understand."
"Look here child." The ever changing one said, and she glanced to him. He held his palms flat, and water suddenly appeared. It took shape, and she saw a young woman, about eighteen. She couldn't quite make out what species she was, but she had hands and stood on her two back feet. "The first ever queen of the Gryphons." He said. "Queen Talamani. She was the first to ever hold the Sapphire Scepter."
Her eyes widened flitting to the staff at the other end of the room. "You mean…"
He nodded. "Indeed, dear White Jewel. Her heart was pure and she as truly worthy to rule them. For millions of years now, it has been that way. Only a woman with a pure heart or the Gryphons' royal blood may hold the Scepter. It cannot be lifted by a man or one whose heart is not pure, or dos not possess the royal blood."
She watched as the woman raised the staff in the image, a glowing light emitting from it. An image appeared in the spray, Gryphons of all sizes bowing before her as she raised her Scepter to the heavens. "But… what does this all have to do with me?"
He didn't answer her question. Instead, he raised his hand controlling the water, and the scene expanded around them. She could see everything much better as it grew to life size. "You see, White Jewel, Talamani had a sister. She became jealous and bitter toward her for gaining immortality and the status of royalty. Her name was Malokini." Suddenly, fire added to the picture, forming the image of another woman. "She was approached by dragons the scaled lizards surrounded the woman. Her face was one of confused terror, but she held her ground. They gave her that black orb from before, ad she transformed.
Malokini's screams were muffled by the image, but they made Opal wince. Her fur began to blacken, and she fell to the ground.
"She was crowned the Dragon's Queen and declared war on her sister. And it spiraled downwards from there. For millennia, our separate kinds have hated one another. There has been treachery, death, mutilations."
"But how does this concern me?!"
The image changed, and she saw a human, holding the scepter. "Our grandmothers' favored form was that of a human being. And because of this, her dreadful mistake."
"Wh… What did she do?"
"She birthed twins. And our kind can be ruled by a single queen. As the eldest, Kari was promised the throne. Kertenkele was left ignored and unloved. She became angry and bitter with her sister- and at lat her transformation arrived. The Dragons current queen, Yulamin, offered her a seat of power to call her own. For she could not bear her own child, she snatched her enemies daughter and further corrupted her. Kertenkele's heart turned black, and her sole goal as to destroy our mother."
"That's awful!"
"Indeed it as. That was hundreds' of years ago, but their hatred has not diminished. If anything, it has grown. Eventually, Kertenkele won." Opal gasped as it showed the two women mentioned in an angry brawl, both bloodily murdered. She could only gape as one fell to the ground, bleeding to death, and the other turned to stone. "She cursed our mother. Better than death- death cannot hold an immortal down, but a curse can.
"Wh- what happened to her?"
"She received a temple of her own, where her statue resides. We've long been trying to locate our stolen sister and bring her home- for we believed she is the only on able to wield the Scepter, for only the Scepter can release our mother." The image shifted again to a large ice ship gliding though open ocean, Raz and a multitude of other creatures aboard. "Our beloved Time was raised among mortals, far away on the sea, her power unknown to her. She died ignorant to the royal blood in her veins."
"But… but what does all that have to do with me?!" she begged. "Please, tell me!"
"Child" he waved a hand and the image disappeared. She blinked rapidly at the sudden change, the darkness a shock to her eyes, accustomed momentarily to the watery blue light. "You recall Talamani, yes?" she nodded. "She was pure of heart, the very reason she could hold the staff. The Gryphons gifted her with their blood, making she and all her descendants' royalty. Only they can wield it and rule. But" he reached out and laid a finger to her chest, right above her heart. It quad-colored eyes bored into hers. "There are others in this universe that re capable of lifting the Scepter. Only those gifted with such an ability may lift it- to matter one's magic abilities or strength, if not a woman of royal blood or truly pure heart, it will not lift. It is extremely rare- the last truly pure heart in this dimension was born tens of thousands of years ago."
"Wow…"
"And you, dear Opal, are pure of heart."
