Chapter 34: Gohan's Final Test- Strength/Love

"You have made it through all the tests so far; but will you pass mine?" Questioned Keninchi as she approached flapping her long angelic wings. "Know this: I do not expect you to make it through this one. Only one other has ever done so, and that was quite some time ago. Be prepared to fight."

With that last sentence, she reached out a finger and tapped me on the nose. As everything blurred and wavered, I was left wondering what Keninchi meant. When everything cleared, I found myself in a desert with scattered rocks and plateaus in the surrounding area. I turned to look at Keninchi, only to find her staring at me. I raised an questioning eyebrow.

"I find you strange, Son Gohan. You are young - the youngest one to ever come and be tested - and yet you have managed to pass all of the other four tests. You must be very special to fate and destiny for them to send you to us at such a young age. However, to earn our respect you still have two last tests to pass. You must prove your strength to me. None of your powers have been blocked, so fight well."

With that, Keninchi floated over to a rock and casually waved her hand. I looked in the direction she waved and winced slightly.

This isn't good! Cell is in this fight along with the others.

Standing about twenty feet in front of me was Frieza, Cell, the Ginyu Force, android 17, and Cooler. I powered up to SSJ2 and all the villains looked at one another, nodded, and then attacked. Cell and Frieza reached me first, attacking from either side with ki blasts. I quickly shot into the air and began to formulate a plan. As I was trading blows with both Frieza and Cell up in the air, I noticed android 17 and Cooler hanging back while the Ginyu force watched from the ground.

It be a lot easier and faster if I get rid of the weakest fighters first.

I slammed my elbow into Frieza's face, causing the ice-jin to fall and hit the ground with a smack, and kneed Cell hard enough in the stomach to leave the android gasping for air. Immediately I raised my hands into an x formation on my forehead and shouted.

"MASENKO HA!"

The blast flew down to where the Ginyu force was standing and, like that coyote on those American cartoons, they just stood there and watched stupidly until the blast hit them. I was then sent plummeting to the ground courtesy of both Frieza and Cell kicking me while i'd been distracted by the Ginyu force. Rolling out from the crater my body had made, narrowly avoiding a ki blast from Cell in the process, I decided I wasn't going to fool around anymore and began to power up. Within a couple seconds, the force of my aura was pushing everyone back. Cell, Frieza, 17, and Cooler were shielding their eyes and trying to stay still - only Keninchi seemed unaffected, and was currently watching me with a gleam in her black eyes.

I let out a huge scream, and when the light faded I stood there in SSJ3 form.

Now, lets put my new powers to the test.

Before they'd even managed to recover from their shock at my new appearance, Frieza and Cooler were both sent smashing into the ground by me and my newly increased strength and speed. I had only enough time to send a short Kamehameha after Frieza before being attacked by both 17 and Cell. As I was trading punches with 17 and Cell, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Cooler was getting up from the crater he'd made. Frieza was bloodied, burnt, and looked to be dead, but I didn't count him out quite yet.

Cooler flew up and joined 17 and Cell in fighting me, and it was at about that point that I began to lose. I'd beaten Cell in SSJ2 form before, my dad had beaten Cooler as a Super Saiyan, and 17 had been beaten in SSJ2 form as well - However, combined all three bad guys had enough power and tricks to give me a hard time, even in my SSJ3 form. I still had my trump card to use as a last resort, though. If things got too desperate, I could always open up the door in my mind and access that power. But frankly, that was the last thing I wanted to do, so I pushed myself and powered up all I could and began thinking up strategies, while still trying to hold off Cell, Cooler, and 17.

A couple of blocks and dodges, as well as some punches and ki blasts, later I knew what I was going to do. Putting two fingers to my forehead, I Instant Transmissioned myself out of the way of Cooler's kick and over to Frieza's body. Checking first to make sure the ice-jin was actually dead, I continued with my plan. I grabbed Frieza's body in time to dodge a ki blast from Cell. Using the Instant Transmission again, I appeared behind 17. As 17 whirled around to face me, I threw Frieza's body at the android. Instinctively 17 caught Frieza's body, and in doing so left him wide open to the massive ki blast I had been hiding. The second the blast hit 17 and disintegrated both his and Frieza's bodies, I heard the words.

"BIG BANG ATTACK!"

And was sent slamming into the ground from the attack by Cell. Immediately after hitting the ground, I was attacked by Cooler. Cooler relentlessly began a barrage of punches and kicks, most of which I was unable to dodge or block.

After a vicious tail whip by Cooler, I was sent slamming into one of the many large rocks surrounding the area. Almost casually, Cooler sent a ki blast into the rock to blow it up. As the dust from the blast cleared, I, still in my SSJ3 form, came stumbling out. I was battered and bloody, but a look of grim determination blazed across my face. I'm going to finish this once and for all.

Mustering my power together, I flew at Cooler and knocked the ice- jin into a rock far away. Immediately, I turned to look at Cell who was grinning triumphantly.

Cell... I'll never forgive you for what you've done to my friends and especially my dad.

I began to charge up a Kamehameha and Cell began to do the same. At the last moment, I copied a move from my father and disappeared, then reappeared right behind Cell, before releasing the blast straight into the androids back.

My Kamehameha tore through Cell's midsection and sent him flying into the distance. Turning my attention back to Cooler, who'd recovered and was now speeding towards me. As Cooler got closer, I held my spread out fingers next to my eyes and, when Cooler was about fifty feet away, I shouted.

"SOLAR FLARE!"

Sure enough, Cooler was caught full in the face by the attack and was vulnerable to the two destructo disks I sent careening towards him. One sliced through his neck, and the other through his waist. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to disintegrate the body because Cell was back and as good as new. As we traded blows, I began remembering our battle together from the Cell games.

You tortured the people I felt most close to. The friends I can never replace!

Cell managed to get a good kick in, which sent me into a pile of rocks. When I climbed out, I was no longer in SSJ3 form. Instead, i'd been forced to drop into SSJ2.

What happened? Why aren't I a SSJ3? Can it be that my body could no longer generate the energy that level required?

Cell was in no better shape than me, even though he was in his perfect form and had increased in strength because of our last battle. As I finished climbing out of the rocks, Cell landed and we both stared at each other with hate filled eyes. Taking in each other's bruised and bloody appearances, as well as assessing the power levels and weak spots, we found each other to be almost equal. Cell was the first to speak.

"You certainly have increased your power, boy, but it still will do you no good. I am the perfect being and I will win again this time. There is nothing here to make you angry enough to be able to defeat me."

I just laughed before responding, my clothes hanging in tatters on my body.

"I don't need to be angry to defeat you Cell - I can do it without any other powers. Last time you just got lucky. You will never defeat me while I live, and not when I finally come to the after life. You are doomed to be constantly defeated by me."

At those words, Cell let out a scream of rage and the fight was back on. We were going at it with brutal intensity now, and total savagery - holding nothing back and making sure each hit left a mark and caused pain. Neither one had to worry about outside distractions, and each could concentrate completely on the battle. This time Cell didn't have to worry about any other fighters distracting him, and I didn't have to worry about any enemies trying to sneak up behind me.

Almost as if by mutual consent, we both moved away from each other and began to charge up Kamehamehas. It looked as if this fight would be decided like the last one had -with a ki blast duel.

"Ka"

"Ka"

"Me"

"Me"

"Ha"

"Ha"

"Me"

"Me"

"HA!"

"HA!"

Both Cell and I shouted the final word of the attack, and our Kamehameha waves clashed. The intense heat generated by the two blasts by itself was incredible, not to mention the sheer size. At first it seemed as if neither beam would get the upper hand, but then Cell's began to slowly inch forward and overpower mines. I just gritted my teeth together and pushed more power into my blast, beginning to push Cell's blast back. Now it was Cell who was gritting his teeth and pouring more power in his blast. Just as Cell began to overpower mine again, I released an enormous surge of power through my blast.

I've done it. Now I know once I return, I can defeat him and he'll be dead forever.

Back on the battlefield, recalling what had happened the last time I fought Cell, I pushed all my remaining energy into a block as the backlash from such a huge blast washed over me. Once it all faded, I uncrossed my arms and slowly descended to the ground.

The power from the two blasts had created a crater directly under our feet, so Cell and I had actually finished our battle in the air instead of on the ground. Once on the ground, I ignored all of my screaming muscles, bones, and wounds to sit cross-legged and put my chin in cupped hands and just stare at the ground. Strangely enough throughout the whole battle I had been sort of detached from it all. I hadn't felt the overwhelming anger I usually did when I thought of Cell. It was as if all of my emotions had turned off for that fight and now that it was over they were all coming back.

In order to finally overpower Cell, I had to let the door in my mind open up a little to give me that last extra boost of power. Now I was stuck trying to close the door up again. It wanted to continue to open up and release everything inside. Even with the small amount of power I had released, I hadn't been in total control and was now struggling to regain it all.

Finally, I managed to wrestle control back, and slam the door closed. Just as I was mentally putting the locks down, I sensed another presence near. I looked up to find Keninchi standing in front of me, look of admiration on her face. She walked over to me and pulled me to my feet. Once I was standing, she stood on tiptoe and gave me a light kiss on the cheek before speaking.

"You are indeed a most amazing mortal. There are not many beings in the universe stronger than the last one you faced. For this test I pulled the people who you deemed were hard fights in the past. It is astounding that you were able to defeat them one on one when you were younger, let alone all of them together now. If I am not mistaken, the last being you battled was the one that you are preparing to battle once you return. Am I correct?"

I was a little on the embarrassed side. Keninchi hadn't been very confident or supportive of me passing this test, but now that I had, she was all praises and sweetness. It was a little unnerving to say the least. I just gave a kind of mental shrug before I answered.

"Yes. I'm a lot stronger now than when I was eleven. We had a ki blast duel like that one and with help from my father I won. However, about two months ago, Cell returned with Eternal and they beaten us outright. That's why I went to the hyperbolic time chamber and trained furiously day and night to achieve the strength that I have now. I need it to protect my friends and of course the planet."

Keninchi nodded in understanding, then reached out and brushed my shoulder with one hand. Everything blurred, and a moment later we were at the lake where the other four females were staring expectantly at Keninchi. She stepped forward, smiled, and spoke.

"He possesses strength as well as courage, wisdom, honor, and honesty. He is ready for the final test."

"Aimi, that means you." Eri tells her as she began to circle around the woman with pink mid-length hair.

"I know, I know." She responds, beginning to walk towards me with adoring eyes. Eri followed her and once she neared me she began to circle around my head.

"Are you going to be joining me too on this test Eri?" I asked her after noticing that she was getting very excited.

"Yes," She replies with a huge smile. "Yes, I am!"

"Son Gohan, this test is based on how strong your love is for someone. Believe me, you are not going to not like this one one bit. That's why, to further assist you, I am going to awaken a fellow saiyan that has been resting inside of your heart since the day you were born."

I felt a strange feeling inside. "What do you mean by that?"

Aimi smiled and touched my heart with her glowing pink finger. Within a few moments a spirit walked out of me and looked around confused.

"W-What just h-happened?"

I looked over to the man to see that he was indeed a saiyan. He had short, black spiky hair that hung over his face. His eyes were black as was his eyes and was about the same height as me, if not, taller The man wasn't wearing a typical saiyan armor suit, but I remember Vegeta telling me how thousands or maybe even eons ago, saiyans use to wear weird protective gear. I noticed how he was swinging his tail around.

"Man, it's about time I could move around." The strange saiyan speaks as he stretched his muscles. I stared at the spirit with a questionable look.

After he got done, he looked at me and held his hand out with a smile. "Hey. My name is Thornkin, what's yours kid?"

"Gohan. Nice to meet you." I then reached my hand out so that I could shake it, but when I did, my hand went right through his in a ghost like fashion.

Thornkin scratched the back of his head. "Guess I forgot that I couldn't touch anybody without it going through them... How awkward."

"Thornkin, we have summoned you for a special purpose." Eri informs him.

Thornkin cracked his knuckles then his neck. "Alright, who am I gonna destroy today?"

"You got it all wrong. You're not going to fight anything or anyone by an circumstance. We need you for this young ones test." Aimi explains. "Thornkin, you, Eri and I are going to be his helpers for this last test since it is going to be extremely difficult for his heart and soul."

The male spirit nodded his head. "Okay. Shall we get started then?"

Aimi smiled and looked at me. "Son Gohan, make sure you know what you're doing and please try to keep your hands to yourself. If you harm anyone physically, you will immediately fail this. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes."

"Nice to hear that." Aimi says before touching my heart and transporting the four of us somewhere.

"This is Capsule Corp." I announce as I looked around. Thornkin was staring in awe. "This looks nothing like where I was from. No villages or anything. Just these big who knows what."

"They're called buildings." I inform him before sighing. I understand that its been a while since he's been able to see how things changed over the years. But, what I don't understand is how he's going to assist me in this. Oh well, i'm just going to have to find out myself.

"Gohan!" Someone says from afar. I looked behind me to see that Tania was waving at me with a smile on her face. She ran up and hugged me.

"H-Hey Ta-Tania." I stutter, feeling my face get warmer as she held onto me longer. After she released me, I saw that her eyes were filled with love.

"I can't wait until the date."

"Date?"

Tania began to twist a lock of her long hair, staring at the ground as she began to blush. "Yes. remember when I told you that Trunks asked me out?"

My eyes widened. Trunks? He's the one Tania's going on a date with?

"Isn't he in his twenties Tania?" I ask, scratching the back of my head nervously. She gave me a look then shook her head. "Twenties? no... He's only seventeen. Three year difference."

My eyes lowered. "Oh."

Just then, Trunks had walked out of Capsule Corp and embraced Tania. His appearance was exactly how it was when he warned us about the androids. I looked over at Aimi who was watching the whole scene with no emotion. Eri was strangely circling around Tania and Thornkin was by my side observing everything.

"What's up, Gohan?" Trunks greets me. I didn't say anything. He walked up to me and fist pumped my shoulder. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." I lied, forcing myself to give a smile to the two as if I were congratulating them. "I was just thinking to myself. Sorry about that."

He laughed. "You think too much. Anyways, I want to thank you for helping me tell Tania how I felt about her. Means a lot man."

"No... Problem.."

When did I ever help him with that? I don't understand what's happening. I know this place is an illusion, but it looks and feels very real.

"Can we go now?" Tania asks eagerly batting her eyelashes at Trunks causing him to blush slightly. "Yeah, lets go."

Before they left, in a act of desperation and desire to not let them go alone with eachother, I grabbed onto Tania's hand. She looked at me confused while Trunks sorta glared. Realizing what I had done, I made up an excuse for my action.

"I just wanted to tell you guys, congratulations." I exclaim. Trunks' glare turned into relief and him and Tania smiled. After that he lead the both of them in the sky hand in hand.

Without saying a word, I walked away with my eyes lowered to the sidewalk. I guess she doesn't care about me anymore... And what exactly did Trunks meant by I helped him?

"In this alternate universe, Tania had feelings for you, but you never felt the same way. Meanwhile Trunks was the one who had strong feelings for Tania and he asked you if you could help have Tania slowly fall in love with him, since you didn't love her in return." Explained Aimi as she floated in the air, following me with Thornkin and Eri.

"And it worked?"

"Of course." Eri answers. "I mean come on, if the person doesn't share your feelings, what's the point of liking them?"

"Eri, when will you learn to be quiet? Can't you see that Gohan is already confused and sad enough as it is." Thornkin scolds the baby looking spirit.

"I didn't mean to hurt his feelings."

"Its alright Eri. You didn't hurt me, i'm not sad." I try to persuade them in believing me. We kept walking until I decided to jump up onto a tree and look up into the clouds. My arms were crossed as was my legs. I was leaning against the trunk of the tree.

"Gohan?" Eri called. I didn't look at her and kept my gaze towards the clouds. "Don't you think that you should go and spy on them or something?"

It was hard for me to not roll my eyes, instead I just heavily sighed. "Aimi says that in this universe, I had already rejected Tania and helped Trunks be with her. If that's so, what am I suppose to do? I probably had broken her heart."

"If it were me, i'd spy. I mean, what if they're kissing right now?" Thornkin smoothly wondered aloud. I felt a vein pulse on my temple. "Or maybe they could possibly be... you know..."

Immediately, I jumped off the tree and searched for their life force. Found it!

I took off into the air full speed. No matter what I wasn't going to let Trunks take advantage of her! I know I shouldn't be getting between them, but it just couldn't be help.

"I knew he'd go if I said that." Thornkin whispers to Eri and Aimi unaware that I could hear him. I shrugged and when I finally spotted the two having what looked like a picnic, I hid behind the bush. I saw as the other three were just standing right in their view. However it looked as though Tania and Trunks couldn't see Aimi, Eri, and Thornkin.

"Trunks, this is such a beautiful spot for us to go on this picnic." Tania admits as she looked at my friend with adoring eyes. Trunks smiled and took something out of his pocket.

"Tania close your eyes for a moment." He insisted. Tania did as she was told and when Trunks took out the necklace hidden in the case and wrapped it around her neck he told her to reopen them.

"Aww its lovely." Tania smiled with a blush creeping onto her cheeks. "Thank you, I love you so much Trunks."

Once more, a boiled vein pulsed onto my temple. My fists were clenched and I can feel that I was gritting my teeth. Arrrghhh!

"Gohan, you look like your going to explode." Thornkin commented as he suddenly appeared right in front of me, causing me to fall on my back. Thankfully, the couple didn't hear anything and continued on with their "Date"

He laughed. "Your jealous, aren't you?"

"No i'm not." I once again lied. "I'm just trying to make sure she's alright."

Thornkin layed down on the grass and smiled. "If you aren't jealous then how come you become mad everytime they get touchy with eachother."

Just then, Trunks was holding onto Tania's hand, and I felt the need to keep a close eye on them. At first I couldn't really understand what they were saying, but then they closed their eyes and began to inch towards one anothers lips.

My eyes widened. THEY'RE NOT ABOUT TO KISS ARE THEY?!

I stepped forward and felt myself trip over something. I landed out of the bushes and in front of Tania and Trunk's faces.

"Gohan? What were you doing?" Trunks asks while helping me to my feet. I laughed nervously knowing that I stopped them from kissing. Tania just stood from where she was and frowned. She must've really wanted to kiss him...

"So, you guys are having a picnic?"

"Yeah. We were actually... um.." Trunks begins to say but begins to blush. I could see in his eyes that he really loved Tania. From what I could see, Tania had that same look in her eyes when she gazes at Trunks. Finally Tania ran over to where Trunks was and kissed him passionately.

I felt my heart break as I watched them. Trunks being surprised eventually closed his eyes and returned her kiss. Unable to watch any longer, I flew away. I should leave them alone... Tania's in love with him... not me..

Knowing that I had left to fast for the others, I went back to the tree I was at before and soaked. It was awhile until they found me. I hid my face away from them. The emotion I was feeling was overwhelming. Eri circled around me with worry. Thornkin tried to cheer me up, but was unsuccessful. Aimi didn't do anything but sigh. "Let me know how you're feeling Son Gohan."

I didn't say anything. I was in pain. I tried to keep my eyes dried as I began to overthink about everything. Again Aimi asked me how I was feeling.

"You were r-right." My voice croaked. "I don't think I was ready to t-take t-this test."

The pink haired woman nodded in understanding. "Gohan, what are your feelings exactly for this saiyan? If it helps, i'll tell you that Tania has fallen in love."

"With Trunks." I corrected her in annoyance and frustration.

Aimi glared at me then pointed her finger at me then aimed it down. "Fall down..."

On command, I had suddenly been forced face first to the ground. I sprung back up rubbing my throbbing dirt filled face. "Ouch, why did you do that?"

"Because you're acting foolish." She tells me.

"I'm sorry."

"Now that you're back to being more like yourself, can you answer the question Son Gohan?"

"I love her." I admit. Thornkin and Eri smiled as they both looked at Aimi. "Even if she loved someone else, I would still love her. She means a lot to me. To be honest, I was still depressed from my father's death. In my head, I always had that guilt that I was the one who caused him to get killed. However, after meeting Tania... I..."

The three continued to stare. I could suddenly feel my heart racing.

I scratched the back of my head not even noticing I was smiling to myself. "I realized that I wasn't the one who killed him. I learned that there was nothing I could do to prevent that from happening, I didn't know father was going to die. Tania helped me see that. I love her and I know I can't be without her. If staying friends is what she really desires then i'm going to respect that no matter what."

Aimi walked up to me and touched my chest. I watched as a very bright pink light appeared from my heart and I was forced to shut my eyes. When I reopened them I saw that we were back at the lake with the others.

"What was the result Aimi?" Keninchi asked.

Aimi looked at me strangely then turned to the others, smiled and announced. "Son Gohan has passed my test. He possesses love, strength, honor, honesty, wisdom and courage. All the tests necessary for him to see his reward."

Clapping was heard immediately after. I was proud and relieved that I had passed but I couldn't help but wander why I did.

"Aimi, why did you allow me to pass?"

"She allowed you to because when you were confessing your feelings Eri, Aimi and I felt your emotions running through our bodies. Your very amazing, Gohan." Thornkin explained before going back into my body without warning.

"W'Why does he..."

"I think its about time that I tell you whats going on." Eri smiled. "You see the reason why I said that I was always with you is because a part of my soul is in Tania's body. She's my reincarnated soul"

"You can't be serious!"

"I am. I know everything about you Gohan. I know your every thought, motive, emotions etc.." Eri reveals. I stood there beginning to feel a little embarrassed.

"Oh also, Thornkin's spirit is within you. You're his reincarnation Gohan."

"WHAT?!" My eyes were fully widened. I couldn't believe what she was informing me. I was someones... Thornkins, reincarnation?

Eri began to giggle. "Sometimes, you and him are so clueless."

"Enough of this fooling around! It's time that you receive your reward, young warrior. For no one, but one other person has received what you are going to be given."
