Congratulations to Duskingdawn for correctly guessing both quotes! You get a character in this story!
Max: she already has one, remember? She helped you come up with how you're going to do this chapter.
Me: I hate it when you're right. Ok, sooooooooo….. I have no idea what to give you. Wait I know! You get to keep Fang for a whole… week!
Fang and Max: WHAT?!
Me: sorry, it was all I could come up with. Igs, do the disclaimer please.
Iggy: with pleasure. RozaCourt does not own MR. Only her plot idea and the contest.
Me: which, by the way, is still going.
Chapter Five
Max POV
"So, what now?" my assistant asked me as the two of us walked out of the school and towards the woods.
"Now, we go to the Martinez residence to hang out more with our wards more. I actually convinced Nudge to get her mom to let me stay at their place the entire year round by pulling the whole 'my parents have been missing for years and I'm living on my own' act."
"I might end up having to stay with you, right?" I grinned at him as I turned around to wave at Nudge before we disappeared in the woods.
"You will be with Iggy the entire time, but yes. You will be under the same roof as me." He groaned, which made me just laugh outright.
"Hey, Maxie. Fang," I heard just as strong arms wrapped around my waist and lifted me off of the ground. I squealed, knowing precisely who the person was.
"I swear, I think you're stalking us," Fang grumbled.
"Stop being a party pooper. Besides, all three of us need to stretch out our wings. Don't be a meanie." I felt Flare smirk as he set me back down on my feet.
"Meanie? Really Max? Who still says meanie?" I crossed my arms.
"I do. So, there." I stuck my tongue out at him before jumping into the air, flapping my black and blood red striped sixteen foot wings. I swear, I can be such a child sometimes.
Peeking back over my shoulder, I saw the pure black wings of Fang and the black and fire red wings of Flare following me. 'Ha, I got these boys trained like dogs. Little vampire dogs. Little vampire dogs that are really, really sexy and…. Wait, what am I thinking?' I shook away my thoughts and looked back forward.
"Yo, street to Martinez place is coming up. Flare, darling, I'm sorry to say this. But we must separate. I know Gazzy doesn't live on the same street as Nudge and Iggy."
"Good," Fang sighed. We ignored him (as usual).
"I'll see you later, Max. Preferably outside of school." He kissed my cheek (making me blush a very unattractive red) before flying away.
"Well, somebody seems smitten." I glared at my assistant as we landed quickly behind somebody's huge tree. I reluctantly made my wings go back into my back-that's how we hide them- and walked down the street.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" Fang asked me. I held out one hand and a smallish bag appeared in my hand. Then I held my other slightly behind me and a roller suitcase appeared with the handle in my hand.
"No, I am not. Though you need to do the same if you plan on staying in Iggy's room." I ignored his scowl and continued walking until I reached the Martinez residence. I rang the doorbell and waited.
"Maybe nobody's home. I can't sense Iggy," Fang said behind me.
"I can feel Nudge. Maybe your sensors are all wrong. You haven't had a feed since this morning, and I know your food at lunch was well done rather than rare."
"Of course I didn't have a lunch bag filled with rare pork chops and soda laced with blood. Just like the rest of the non-royals, I cannot simply make that appear unless somebody has it made for me already."
"Hey, do not blame it on…." I stopped talking when the door in front of me opened. 'Shit, I hope they didn't hear what we were saying!' "Hi, Mrs. Martinez."
"Oh, hello. You must be Max and Fang. Nudge has been talking about you two since she came home. Come on in." We walked into the place.
I bet you're wondering: why aren't they subtly checking for bad guys wanting to hurt Nudge. Well, here's why. Remember those barriers I said we need to put up this morning? Well, they tell us whenever somebody tries to go through it. Only mortals without an alternate motive can get through. Anybody else will be zapped to either a) jail or b) wherever I am so I can look into their mind. Yeah, I know. Really dangerous, could totally reveal Fang and me, I might put myself in trouble along with Nudge, blah, blah, blah. Do I care? No, I do not. Have I ever cared? No, I have not. Has anybody ever killed my ward because of it? Only once and that's because the idiot ward went straight to the guy despite my warnings.
"This is a nice place," I told Mrs. Martinez as I looked around.
"Thank you. The kids are upstairs. Just listen for a certain type of music for their room." We nodded and jogged up the steps.
"I only hear girly music. I really hope Iggy doesn't like girly music." I smirked at Fang.
"He isn't here, you dobe. I can't sense him either. Check out Gazzy's place, see if he's there." He nodded and walked back downstairs.
"OMG, Max is here!" squealed Nudge as soon as I walked into the room playing (ugh, kill me now) Justin Bieber.
"Yeah, I said I would be." I looked around her room quickly, giving it a once over. And, I really truly hope I get to sleep in a guest room or something.
I am more of a black and blood red styled room type of girl. It comes with being a Guardian Vampire female that's a tomboy. Nudge's room, however, is the exact opposite. All I see is bright colors: pink, purple, and yellow. In the center of the room, she has a canopy bed with the pink curtain pulled to the side to reveal a pink comforter with stuffed animals and yellow pillows of different shapes and sizes. There was a mirror desk with makeup all over it and a freaking vanity mirror on it. Who needs a vanity mirror when you have a freaking huge mirror right there?!
"You don't like my room or something?" I looked back at Nudge with a small smile.
"It's not that. It's just… a bit girly for me." Her face rebrightened.
"Oh, I did realize you're more of the tomboy type. I mean, that dragon is totally awesome. Didn't it hurt? What am I saying? Of course it hurt. Would it hurt so bad if I get a small one on my arm? I've always wanted one, but some people say…." And she continued on with her rant. I can't believe I have to listen to this all the time!
~Fang POV~
I finally made it to Gazzy's house, which I only found because I sensed Iggy in there with him. I landed quickly, hid my wings, and went to the door. I rang the door bell.
"Coming! Gazzy, Iggy, don't you dare set that thing off!" I raised an eyebrow as a girl opened the door. After a second, I recognized her as one of the girls that were hanging out with Nudge the entire time during school.
"I take it Iggy is indeed here?" She flipped her blond hair off of her shoulder and smiled at me.
"Yes, he is here with my brother. You're Fang, right?" I nodded and walked in as she opened the door wider. "He's upstairs, first door on the left."
"Thanks." I walked to the room and just stood in the room for a second: there were three people in the room other than myself. Two of them were making a bomb, or what looks like a bomb. And the other one was just… watching them. Not even doing his job.
"Yo, Fang! Glad you could join us, man!" I just nodded to Iggy and walked over to wear Flare was standing.
"Nice to see you guys again as well. We'll be right back: I need to talk to Flare for a minute."
"Alright, man. We'll be in here," Gazzy said as the two went back to their little project. I yanked the other Vampire into the hall with me.
"You do realize I still out rank you, right? You have no right to yank me around, Assistant to the Heir of the Guardian Vampires," he growled. That's another reason why I hate him. He's the Queen's Knight. Meaning, he is technically royalty even though he isn't one by blood. While I, the one who scored the closest to Max in the first place, am stuck with being her assistant!
"I would really appreciate it if you stopped showing up everywhere Max and I are. It's starting to become a burden."
"What was that? I couldn't hear you over the loser aura radiating off of you. I swear, you act like mortal boys sometimes, Fang." Ouch, that hurt. A GV may protect mortals all the time, but to be called one is the lowest of all lows.
"Look, you're really starting to annoy me with your existence. And you're putting Max's life in danger. If she's busy fawning over you, she won't be focused on protecting Nudge from danger."
"Both of us know Max has to great of instincts to be distracted like that. And you're only concerned about yourself. You feel even more inferior than usual when I'm around."
"I could always make myself even more superior than you," I said calmly, standing directly in his face.
Before I could even register it, I was against the wall with his hand tight around my neck. 'Shit, I forgot he's a whole century older than me. That's a whole one hundred years more worth of feeding than me.' If you're wondering, the more blood you have consumed, the stronger you are. That's why in theory, the older you are, the stronger you are. I say in theory because Max is even stronger than most Ancient Guardian Vampires. She's only weaker than her own parents.
"What was that again, Assistant of the Heir?" he snarled in my ear. I summoned as much water and darkness into my hand as I could and punched his chest, making him fly to the other side of the hall. His power is fire, which means his weakness is water. My power is dominate darkness and minor water, so I can attack/ weaken him.
We stood in the hall glaring at each other for a good five minutes before he got a suspicious look in his eye. "Why do you care so much about Max anyway? I could've sworn you hated her and wanted her dead for eight centuries now."
The power went out of my hands at this. Why do I care about her? She's my archenemy. I'm supposed to want her to either get in trouble or lose her life because she lost focus. Is it possible that… I somehow… gained feelings for her?
I thought back to all those years I spent with her. Before we learned our ranks, we were the best of friends. Even afterwards, I was drawn to her. I just figured it was because I had to be near her, so I just dismissed it. I remembered earlier today when she gave me her bottle of blood just so that I could keep up with her. And the look on her face when I first shoved her to the ground in my bitterness over our separate yet connected ranks. And the jokes she always made that never really had much heart behind them. And…. Oh my goodness, I think I do have feelings for Max.
