Ok, people. I am officially out of awesome quotes. So, Guess That Quote is over until further notice. Sorry you guys. Maxie-kins?
Max: stop calling me that! RozaCourt does not own MR.
Chapter six
Max
Fang has been acting weird lately. Ever since we started staying with the Walkers two weeks ago, he has been avoiding me at all costs. He won't even react to my jokes! I wore all black the other day, and he didn't even smirk saying 'I guess you adore me enough to clone me.' What is going on with my emo assistant?!
"Yo, Max! You gonna order or what?!" I shook my head and refocused my eyes. Flare and the redhead waitress were staring at me like I was crazy.
"Oh, sorry. I'll have the super mega triple cheeseburger with pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and ketchup; ultra-mega order of fries with honey mustard, ketchup, and mayo; and a large chocolate milkshake." The waitress raised an eyebrow at me as she slowly wrote this down.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Oh, you're right. I need the burger meat cooked medium rare. Also give me a rare cooked steak, the biggest you got. And two large cherry Mountain Dews." Flare chuckled as the waitress walked away with a bewildered look on her face.
"You had me worried there. I thought you were going to order like a… human tomboy," he said, mock shuddering. I snorted.
"Puh-lease. You will never catch me in a million years ordering something as simple as I almost ordered."
"Good to know it." I blushed lightly as he flashed me his gorgeous smile.
Flare and I are on a date right now in the absolute best meat restaurant place in town. Or so I've heard. They will even cook the chicken medium rare if you ask for it! I found that weird yet very convenient.
"So, how's your assistant?" the very hot fire user asked me. I frowned lightly, put back in my previous thoughts.
"I don't know. He's ignoring me and he won't let me into his mind." Yes I can read minds. I'm a mind person, which means whatever I think about, it comes to life.
"He'll come around. I know it." Before I could answer, I felt something explode within me. "Max?"
"Waitress, I need that to go! Now!" I could see cooks rushing around at the command. I stood up and ran straight to the ladies room.
"What the…?" girls inside said at the look on my face.
"Out!" They scrambled out of the restroom and I slid onto the floor. Another explosion hit, and I curled up into a ball. I let my mind wander to Nudge's and saw that she, Iggy, and Gazzy were hiding from somebody in her closet.
"Max, food's here!" Flare yelled through the door. I jumped to my feet and followed him outside.
"We don't have time to walk or run! We need to fly, now!" Not caring about staying hidden, we shot up into the air and flew quickly in the air.
"What's going on?!" he asked me. My wings momentarily stopped flapping when I felt like somebody was kicking me. Flare grabbed my arm as I looked in on Nudge again; this time she was being held up by two guys and punched repeatedly.
"It's Nudge, she's being attacked! Somebody got through the barrier!" We landed in the lawn, and I led the way into the house. We bounded up the stairs and crashed into the room.
"Max, get out of here! It's too dangerous!" Iggy said on the other side of the room. I glared at Fang before appearing by Nudge's side.
"Not happening." I snatched both guys' heads off and let them drop to my feet. "Nick, you and Flare take Iggy, Nudge, and Gazzy to Gazzy's house. I got these goons."
"Max, no!" Nudge cried.
"Get out of here!" I snapped, already in vampire form. She squeaked at the sight of my fangs and ran away with the others. I looked back at the demons that are now grinning at me. "How did you get through my barrier?"
"Don't you know? Your little assistant foresaw us coming. He didn't make his half of the barrier powerful enough," one said. My heart sunk at this. That really is the only way a demon could get through the barriers. My power is too great otherwise.
"There is no way he could've foresaw you. He can't see the future." I flipped around, kicking a few minor demons away from me.
"He just evolved for it right before you two got here. I guess you didn't know." A quick beat of my wings got me away from minor demons.
"Fang wouldn't…."
He wants you dead, Max. What better way to kill you than to let in an army of demons? Face it, he set this up.
No, it can't be. Fang wouldn't do this. He wouldn't put mortals in danger just to kill me. He can't. He won't. He…. I struggled as the demons grabbed me and disappeared. He did.
~Fang POV~
Why did I do that?! I was so stupid to weaken the barriers way back then. Now….
"Fang, what's going on in there? What's happening? Why didn't Max come out with us?" Nudge rambled. Iggy held her hand.
'According to the rules, as soon as a demon appears the mortal must know.'
"Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, we're not who you think we are," I started, motioning to Flare and myself. Said fire user nodded when he realized where I was going with this.
"Fang, Max, and I are Guardian Vampires that were sent here to protect the three of you from those very demons that attacked your home. Nudge, Max is your Guardian, Fang is Iggy's, and I'm Gazzy's."
"So you mean to tell me that you're not even human? And that you were sent here to protect us?" Gazzy summarized.
"Pretty much."
"Ok, well what are those… demons doing to Max? There's no way she can beat them all herself," Nudge squeaked, holding onto Iggy's hand tighter.
"Max is powerful. She's stronger than most of our ancients," I pointed out.
"But there were so many! She can't take them all on her own!" Nudge insisted. Flare and I looked at each other. 'We have to check on her. But one of us can't protect all three at the same time.'
"I'll go. As Queen's Knight, it is my duty to…." A powerful force made both of us fall to our knees. Flare and I put up shields to protect the other three from the demons we knew were coming.
"You're a traitor! You know that, Fang?!" my heart clenched at Max's words. She's right: I am a traitor.
"What is she talking about?" Gazzy asked. I remained silent, watching the Heir struggle against the demons holding her.
"Tell them, Nick! Tell them how you didn't tell me you could see into the future even better than I can! Tell them how you saw these demons coming! Tell them how you weakened your side of the barriers to let the demons get to me! Tell them!" she commanded.
"You… you did that?" Nudge asked, slinking away from me.
"Tell us she's lying, dude. You couldn't hate one person that much," Iggy said. I still remained silent.
"He can't deny it! Thank you, Fang, for giving us the Guardian Vampire princess! Now we can take over the entire queendom!" one of the demons declared.
"I don't think so! Un-hand my daughter this instant!" a voice said above us. We all looked up as the Knights of the GV flew straight into the line of demons, led by….
"Daddy!" Max's father. Soon, the demons were all gone, and Max was hugging her father. "I knew you would come."
"I couldn't let my only daughter get hurt by demons." The two flew down to the rest of us. Max simply broke the barrier around the mortals and leaned down in front of Nudge.
"Are you alright? I could feel the attacks," she said softly. Nudge looked down at her stomach, so Max touched it lightly.
"Oh," Nudge gasped as Max healed her wounds.
"What about the rest of you?" The guys shook their heads. They were fine: Flare and I had already checked them. "Fang, you do know you're facing treason right?"
"Max, I'm…"
"Don't you dare say it! Don't you dare tell me you're sorry! I could've died, Fang! If the Knights hadn't appeared when they did, I would've lost my life! All because you don't like your rank! Don't you think being the Royal Assistant can be a good thing?!"
"How can being your assistant possibly be a good thing?"
"I was the Assistant of the current Queen," Max's father said. My heart sank; is he serious?
"We could've had something, Fang. But then you went and did this! Both of us can get in trouble for this! Not just you, both of us! Why, Fang?! Do you really…?" We all looked at her in surprise as her voice broke. Max never cries. "Do you really hate me that much?"
"I don't. I mean, I did, before. Not anymore."
"Why? We used to be best friends. Why did you hate me so bad?" Tears streamed down her cheeks at the question.
"You were viewed as better than me by everybody. Before, I was the strongest, the smartest, and the fastest out of the two of us. I was fast becoming the strongest of the GVs, and every trainer wanted me as a trainee. But then after the ceremony, I was viewed as weaker than you. I couldn't even train correctly. I figured with you gone, I would get back my reputation."
"All this because you wanted to be the strongest of us?" asked Flare. I looked down.
"Take me now, I won't resist. I deserve it." I felt light and electricity bonds appear on my wrists and ankles. Light because I have the power of darkness and electricity because of my recessive water.
"You're different than I thought you were, dude. I don't even know who you are anymore," Iggy said. Gazzy nodded his agreement.
"I'll be back to visit. Until then, a Guardian Angel will be with you to keep you safe," Max told the three.
"I'm gonna miss you, Maxie. When you get back, you have to let me give you a makeover," Nudge said, hugging Max. Said girl laughed as she hugged her back.
"I might just let you do that." She tapped all three mortals' foreheads, marking them, and led the way to the subway station.
Noooooo, Fang how could you?! Why would you do this to Maxie?!
Max: I'm with Roza, dude. You almost killed me.
Fang: I'm sorry! I get…. (bursts out laughing) I can't do it.
Me: Spoil Sport. Reviews are greatly appreciated.
