Chapter 27- Frieza is one step ahead
It didn't last long. Like fire, it burns out within a few hours. But those few hours before it burns out are the hottest, a heat that takes away reasoning before returning it back through the embers.
My reasoning had returned all right. It was the first proper stupid thing I'd done without the incentive of alcohol.
Vegeta had left as quickly as he'd come, not even bothering to spend a few hours sleeping or even just talking. So I was pretty pissed when he turned up a day later not even looking me in the eye telling me I had to leave.
"Excuse me mr prince of all saiyans, maybe your people took crap from you without saying anything, but I am not one of your people and I will not take crap from you. You can't just walk of like that and then turn up a day later demanding I leave"
"My people are dead"
"It's the same result. I'm not one of your people so how about some explaining? I'm sure even your highness can manage that one"
"What do you expect me to say, it was obvious it was going to be a one-off thing"
"I'm not bothered about that. I'm with someone for your information-"
"-Who you just cheated on-"
"-I'm bothered about the fact you just fucked of without a word and then come in here demanding I go without giving a reason" He looked up then, irritation written all over his too sharp features.
"Alright fine. I'm leaving so you have to leave too. Stay here if you want but if Frieza catches you I won't be here to save your bacon"
I rolled my eyes.
"See? That wasn't hard. I wasn't planning on staying anyway"
"Well then why make such a big fuss over it" I folded my arms over my chest.
"Because I wanted a reason" Now it was Vegeta's turn to roll his eyes.
"Women..such strange creatures"
"Whatever, so where are you running of too anyway?" He shifted from left foot to right, clearly unsure whether to trust me or not.
"I'm-"
"-Prince Vegeta, Que demands to see you" A orange alien appeared in the doorway, clasping the doorframe whilst panting from lack of breath.
"What does he want?" The irritation was back and he watched the alien with mute disgust.
"He didn't say. Only that it was important"
"Hmph, I doubt that. Still, I suppose I should go humour him"
"Right sir, he's in the corridor of block three. I was told to offer a replacement scouter to you" The alien looked intimidated for a moment, his three clawed hand trembling as he held out a new scouter similar to the one he had on earth, except the plastic screen was red this time.
"It's an up to date version prince Vegeta" Vegeta still scowled.
"I don't want it"
"But sir-"
"I said, I don't want it" Vegeta then proceeded to stride past him, me shrugging apologetically as I followed behind. He couldn't have been anymore than a young adult.
It didn't take long to find Que. He was the ugliest one I had seen so far. With a permanently-set, smug expression to boot. He smile grew right across his taut purple skin when he saw Vegeta.
"So the prince returns at last. I heard you got beat up pretty bad on earth. About time someone knocked some sense into you" Who knew you could hate someone after one sentence.
"Nice to see your still as annoying as always. Let's keep it short. Where's Frieza?"
It seemed impossible but the smile grew even wider. The entire lower half of his face was now just one big creepy ass smile. Thank the gods I hadn't met this asshole whilst wandering round the complex.
"Ohh, haven't you heard?"
"Heard what"
"Frieza's gone to Namek. He's looking for the dragonballs you so kindly informed him off"
"What!? How!?" Que lifted a clawed finger to tap the shiny red scouter as his right eye.
"That asshole!" Vegeta yelled. He lurched forward towards one of the entourage aliens, feverously eyeing up the scouter he held in his hand.
"On second thought, I will have one of these" He snatched the scouter out of the frightened aliens hand and then tore of down the hallway. I glared at Que before pressing of after him.
"Where the hell are you going!"
"To Namek of course! Where do you think!" Vegeta broke into a sprint, twisting and turning with the corridor.
My lungs were fit to burst by the time the walls changed to a green and fell in to create a courtyard full of space pods.
"You don't have to follow me you know"
"No, but you did say I had to leave anyway" He fell silent as he selected the pod from the far right. I waited for him to open the door before walking in behind him.
"Can't you take your own pod?"
"Do I look like I know how to fly a pod?"
"It's not hard" He grumbled but let me through anyway. We were seated instantly, and after Vegeta jabbed a few buttons the door grated back into place and then shot through the sky. Leaving the protesting aliens back on Frieza planet 365.
It was tight for space, the bench protesting under the effort of giving us enough space. Our legs didn't just brush together awkwardly, I was practically sat on his lap. The sooner we got to this Namek the better.
Speaking of that,
"How are there dragonballs on Namek?" Since this clearly made a lot more sense to Vegeta than it did to me. All I knew was that Frieza had obviously overheard Vegeta talking about them over the scouter. Raditz had said they acted as a transmitter, but I didn't realize it had more recipients than just saiyans.
"It's the home planet of Namekians" He sighed when I still looked blank.
"The race that Piccolo belonged to?"
"Ohh, right" Sadness suddenly overwhelmed me again. The wound still fresh for it had only been two days since losing Piccolo.
"Are you really with someone?"
"What?" I was startled out of my thoughts.
"When you said you were with someone, is that true?"
"Yeah, why?"
"No reason" The silence was back again.
"Is it Piccolo"
"He's dead" And I didn't feel any better for saying it.
"He can be wished back to life"
"I doubt you would let me have the dragon-balls for that"
"So it is him"
"No"
"Who then?"
"You wouldn't know him. He's a soldier in a whole different universe" Vegeta brooded on that for a moment.
"Why did you cheat on him then" I thought about that for a moment.
"When I left..i didn't exactly get time to lay down any rules. But since we've been apart for so long, it would be unfair not to do anything. If he's slept with someone back where I came from, that's fine, because I've slept with others too. As long as we don't take it further than sleeping with someone then there won't be a problem when I return back home.
Does that make sense to you?"
"Not really, sounds strange. Especially since you haven't even agreed on it. If your going to sleep with others why be in a relationship with him. All you need out of it is the sex part"
"I know it's strange, but I guess that's what love is"
