Slate kept glancing for ways to escape his captivity, but he could not find a sensible option. The bulky pokemon the "warden" had would stop him at any cost and even if he got out of the room so what, there would be many more grunts waiting for him outside.

Just then a grunt ran in and yelled: "Quick, the police found a breach in our defenses and our trying to pour in, some of our lesser guys are holding them off but we need pokemon like yours."

The guard obliged but left one of his pokemon behind and instructed it to keep extra watch on the hostages. Slate knew this was his chance but knew he would have to outrun that pokemon. He wanted to make a plan but what if the guard came back any moment? He just decided to wing it and ran for the door. The pokemon spotted him and dashed, Slate quickly spotted a door handle on his run, he turned around once he reached the door. He closed the door and locked it only if to delay the pokemon.

He ran down the stairs down the hallway and continued to dash, as he went around a corner though a grunt saw him and it was too late to stop him.

"THERE'S A JAILBREAK GOING ON DOWN HERE, A TEENAGER BROKE FREE, CATCH HIM BEFORE HE CAN INTERFERE, RAVEN STILL NEEDS TIME IN SQUIRTLE GROVE, THE POKEMON ARE GIVING HER MORE TROUBLE THAN SHE BARGAINED FOR! MAKE SURE THE DROID CONTROL ROOM STAYS GUARDED!" yelled the grunt.

"Damn it," cursed Slate, there was nothing he could do about the grunt though so he continued to run. Raven needs more time in Squirtle Grove? Whatever these guys are doing it's just a diversion, that grunt also mentioned a droid control room, I bet if I could do ANYTHING to make them mad, it would be to sabotage whatever droids they have. Slate thought, grunts came around the corner and prepared to fight by throwing pokeballs but Slate tripped and knocked them over.

"Well at least no one else was watching." Slate muttered under his breath.

He kept running and eventually saw a sloppy banner saying "Droid Control Room" with two men guarding the door. Slate swore under his breath,

"I only have one pokemon, how am I supposed to deal with those guards and whoever's inside.

Slate was in a deep problem here, he settled on distracting the guards to not waste Snaklion's energy and use Snaklion to deal with the people inside the Droid Control Room.

Slate didn't need to think of anything though as a policeman came out and tackled one of the guards, the other one was going to throw his pokeball but another policeman came out and tackled him.

"We should've known you were the hostage they were talking about, what are you doing here kid?" asked the policeman.

"Got caught on the way out," said Slate, grinning.

"Well never mind, we found a breach in their defenses and took it, we broke into their base and the east end has erupted in full conflict." said the policeman.

"Anyways kid, what the heck is this "Droid Control Room" that's in front of us?" questioned the other policeman.

"I don't REALLY know I just heard a grunt from whatever criminal organization they are saying it was extra-important." explained Slate.

"Well regardless if they want to keep to keep it safe then we want to breach it, seeing as you escaped their clutches I expect you can handle yourself, want to join us in taking over this droid room?" asked the guard.

Slate knew he had only one pokemon to use but his curiosity was bursting and he agreed. The three new companions breached the room and found a better dressed man in the same style uniform with an ice knight looking pokemon.

"Damn it if this is the "most important room" why don't they assign better guards?" yelled the man.

He ordered his Ice Knight to attack them and the police officers turned to Slate.

"Alright kid, here's what we'll do, we weaken the thing and you capture it, you have pokeballs don't you?" said the policeman.

"OF COURSE WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR!" yelled Slate.

Slate now saw this as perfect luck, his golden opportunity to gain his second team member. He was eager to say the least. They started to battle, the policeman threw in their pokemon, one was a giant turtle, Tortuga, Tortuga was the evolved form of Titua, still normal-ground type it had MUCH higher defenses and a higher attack rate, although it's speed was a little sloppy. The other police officer had a Golett, it had paint on it though, police blue, regardless they both crashed into the ground and started to fight based on trainers commands or sometimes their own. Dirt, stone, ice spikes, and ghost attacks flew through the air as Slate watched the intense battle waiting for the moment for capturing the ice knight. Tortuga slammed into the ice knight pokemon and the ice knight retaliated with an ice spike attack to the head, Tortuga dazed away stunned for the moment. The ice knight readied to finish off Tortuga but a shadow ball slammed into the ice knight's shooting arm, the Golett continued to fire his shadow balls at the ice knight and Slate saw his chance, he threw a pokeball and it hit dead on, it shook and shook but eventually the triumphant clicking noise signaled a successful capture.

"Good job kid, you're not such a hostage after all." kid the officer.

Slate chuckled and started to stare at his pokeball containing the newly caught pokemon (It was translucent of course because the MANGA IS BETTER THAN EVERYTHING!) and smiled, this was his second pokemon, his upgrade to his team. He decided to pull out his new pokedex to check the pokemon's name. It turned out to be Goulice, (Goul-ise) the ice-knight pokemon, it was high in defenses of course. It also, according to the pokedex, learned some useful attacking moves.

"Holy moly kid you've got a pokedex, those aren't allowed in Gabbro and even outside Gabbro they're rare, the people who have them are called "Pokedex Holders" I heard." said the guard.

"I know, the man who gave it to me said that too." explained Slate.

Their attention then turned to the computer into the room.

"This must be the drone control terminal, Stephens, hack it." ordered the officer.

"Yes sir," said the officer named Stephens.

Slate was escorted out of the premises of fighting by the two police officers, he then strolled down Lewa City's main street, feeling more triumphant than ever. He turned right and saw the Lewa City gym, feeling confident with his new teammate in hand he walked into the gym.
