Chapter 9
'So, this is the Number Ruin...' Belle thought to herself. In her honest opinion, the cave she was standing in front of wasn't that impressive. In fact, it looked like a completely average cave, something you could find in every kind of mountain, even back in the Barian World. And she came the long way to North America for this shit. Hopefully, the Number Guardian wasn't too annoying, she definitely had no nerve for that, after such a long journey with those three soldiers she had in company. These guys were boring like watching the grass grow, Meza had intimidated them that much, they didn't even dare to speak to her, although she had been in the mood for some fight talks.
"Okay men, get your booties movin'," Belle jokingly said, waving her hand to signal them to follow her into the cave. The soldiers obeyed, but did stay in a reasonable distance behind Belle, who was not sure if it was because of her or the Number Guardian lurking in the shadows somewhere. Although she would have preferred the former.
The cave itself, well, Belle did not know what she expected, although, not this for sure. After a short tunnel, the cave ended in a long corridor. It was lit by some torches, but not many, so not everything of it was visible, although you could see animal skulls hanging on the walls. Some of them had cracks in it, as if they were shot by anything. Well, anything, but it didn't take long for Belle to find out what shot them.
Because, after wandering through the corridor for a minute or two, one of the Soldiers behind Belle made a sound of pain. When she turned around, she noticed with shock that an arrow was darting out of the soldiers chest, where his heart was located. Normally, such an attack would leave an energy being like a Barian unharmed, but since the soldier had taken human form... Belle didn't dare to complete this thought and that was a wise decision, because only a few seconds after the first one, another arrow flew through the air and impaled the second soldier at the same place as the first one: Instant death.
It took Belle no longer to find her voice, although there was just one more soldier to yell at: "Run!" They both turned around and darted towards the cave entrance. If all Numbers Guardians were up for stuff like that, then, in Belles opinion, Meza, Saphon and Nitak would have a hard time.
"That's the wrong direction, sweetheart," a mocking voice sounded from their back. Belle stopped and turned around, wanting to yell at the person for calling her sweetheart, but before she could, the young man standing in front of them continued: "Don't you want this?" he said, holding up a card. With the bad light, Belle could only notice that it was an Xyz Monster card, so this guy must be the Numbers Guardian.
She yelled: "Follow me!" running towards the guy, the soldier following shortly after. The Numbers Guardian, however, just put his bow around his back and run off into the other direction, following the corridor.
After a few minutes, Belle arrived at a set of stairs. After she climbed them, she arrived at an old and dilapidated wooden house. When she turned her head, she could catch another glimpse of the guardian, escaping through the door, her following soon after.
Outside she could see many humans on the streets, who jumped out of her and the guys way when they came across. She could see some signs near the streets, which read stuff like: "Foundation Festival", "See a Reminiscence to the Witch Hunt", "Experience History" or "Stage this way". Unfortunately that was exactly the way they were running. The guardian seems to be up to losing in front of an audience.
And that seemed to be his thoughts exactly, because when Belle had taken on to him, he had just shoved a man in a suite from the stage and was then sitting down merrily on one of the two big pyres that were build up behind the stage, Belle assumed that they were there for some kind of show or demonstration. Either that, or humans were really brutal beings.
It was now, that she could take a first look onto the enemy she had to face in a not very distant future. He was almost a boy, rather than a man, maybe in his twenties, from what she had seen from humans since she was here. He was wearing a worn out, brown leather jacket and trousers, along with black boots. His hair had a familiar blonde color, as had his blue eyes.
Nonetheless, Belle stepped onto the stage and the second pyre build up there, opposing the guys: "I'm Belle and I am here for a duel."
"I know sweetheart, otherwise you wouldn't have followed me here when I showed you the Legendary Number. Oh, and I'm Hayk," the Number Guardian said, while the people around the stage, about a dozen, maybe more, started whispering.
As she had no idea what to say to them, Hayk or his last alive soldier, Belle just let her D-Pad materialize on her arm, afterward, her opponent did the same, his looking like an angel wing, although it looked torn and bloody, as if it was cut out straight from an angels living body.
Belle: 4000 LP
Hayk: 4000 LP
"Ladies first," Belle spoke up, "So it is your turn, 'Sweetheart'." Belle put an emphasis at pronouncing the word 'Sweetheart' as mockingly as possible, just like Hayk did before.
But her opponent seemed not care: "I wanted to start nonetheless. I think I will first use this: 'Longbow Angel', Attack Position!" A small angel with blonde hair, wearing a diaper and carrying an oversized bow appeared on Hayks side of the field.
Longbow Angel / Effect / Level 1 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 200 ATK / 800 DEF
And immediately, Belles opinion of the boy fell into bottomless depths. "Oh no. You were making such a threatening surface impression and now, all of that went down. Pathetic," she said, shaking her head, as if being disappointed.
"Sorry Sweetheart, but I am not already finished. I really thought you would know me better than that." Although she had no idea what that meant, she had no time to think about it, as Hayk placed a Spell Card on his D-Pad. "I activate 'Court of Justice'! With this card in play, as long as I control a Level 1 Fairy-Type Monster, like 'Longbow Angel', I can Special Summon another Fairy from my hand. Unfortunately, only once per turn. And I think I have a Lady here, that has waited long enough to meet you! Come forth, 'Athena'!" An armored woman in a white gown, carrying a scepter and a shield appeared on Hayks side of the field.
Athena / Effect / Level 7 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 2600 ATK / 800 DEF
"And my new Monster has a very special effect," Hayk continued, "Once per turn, I can send 1 Fairy-Type Monster I control to the Graveyard to Special Summon one from my Graveyard. Also, whenever a Fairy is Summoned, except 'Athena' itself, you will take 600 Life Points Damage."
"Oh really, that's soooo exciting... And now stop that explaining and go on!" Belle was getting tired with this, she thought that a Number Guardian would come to point more easy.
"Fine, I send 'Longbow Angel' and re-Summon it, in Defense Position, while also doing Damage." The small Angel dis- and reappeared, just changing positions, while Hayks other Monster fired a beam of light at Belle.
Belle: 4000 LP → 3400 LP
"I finally place one card face-down and end my turn."
"About time," Belle said mocking when she drew her card. Her heart stopped at the sight: 'Rank-Up-Magic Barians Force'. The one special card that Telgu gave them in his last effort. She was eager to test it out with her own Number, but she still needed time to summon it. So, for now, she added the card to her hand and took another one.
"I activate the Spell Card 'Hidden Explosives'! Now, I can send one Pyro-Type Monster from my Deck to the Graveyard and then destroy one Monster on the field with less ATK then it." She took the card 'Pyrotech Mech – Shiryu' from her Deck and inserted it into her Graveyard, before she had to choose. She could either destroy 'Athena', a bigger threat, or 'Longbow Angel'. It was tempting to destroy the tiny angel, but finally, Belle settled to destroy the woman in white. She yelled: "I choose 'Athena'!" before a huge flame darted forward and annihilated Hayks Monster.
"Oh and did I mention, that my Spell Card burns your Life Points by the difference in ATK that our Monsters had?" Belle asked as innocent as she could act, before another wave of fire darted forward and crashed into Hayk.
Hayk: 4000 LP → 3700 LP
But he retorted quickly: "I think you did not forget it, you just opted not to tell me, little sis."
The last word of his sentence made Belle take a step backwards: "Little WHAT?" she yelled, "I never saw you lunatic before, how on … earth can you call me your sister?"
"Oh, we are siblings, if you believe it or not. Seems it was true what I was told. You forgot everything. But I think you will remember one this duel is over, so go on," Hayk answered, sounding sad.
"This duel will be over sooner than you think, my insane brother. I activate the Continuous Spell Card 'Volcanic Wall'! Now I can send the top three cards of my Deck to the Grave, then you take Damage equal to the Number of Pyro Monsters I sent 500 times." She hastily picked up the cards from her Deck: 'Volcanic Slicer', 'Overlay Satellite' and 'Soul of Fire'. One Pyro-Type Monster. A small flame darted out of the Spell Card and knocked Hayk backwards.
Hayk: 3700 LP → 3200 LP
"I Normal Summon my next Monster: 'Laval Magma Cannoneer'!" A humanoid being, made of purple stone and wielding two big cannons on its shoulders appeared on Belles side of the field.
Laval Magma Cannoneer / Effect / Level 4 / FIRE / Pyro-Type / 1700 ATK / 200 DEF
"Next, I discard 'Volcanic Counter' and 'The Blazing Mars' to activate the effect of my Monster and damage you 500 Life Points for each." As she spoke, the cannons of Belles Monster fired two blast of lava at Hayk.
Hayk: 3200 LP → 2200 LP
After Hayks Life Points stopped falling, he just chuckled: "Seems like the fire is already present, although not in the needed form. If you might end your turn, then the missing Archer can show up."
"What 'missing Archer'?" Belle asked confused, "You already have your baby angel face-up, so no idea what else you might want. But I cannot do anything else, since both 'Hidden Explosives' and 'Volcanic Wall' forbid me from attacking, so its your turn."
"Very nice," he said, while drawing his card. "Are you ready to face the wrath of a Legendary Number? Because it would be better if you were." He took a card from his hand and placed it on the angel wing: "I Normal Summon 'Crossbow Angel'!" Another Fairy-Type Monster, similar to the other one appeared on Hayks side of the field, but this time, it wielded a Crossbow instead of a Longbow.
Crossbow Angel / Effect / Level 1 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 600 ATK / 400 DEF
"If this Monster is Normal Summoned while I control another Level 1 Fairy, I can Special Summon a third one, straight out of my Deck. I choose 'Recurve Bow Angel'!" A third angel appeared between the other ones, his bow looking similar to 'Longbow Angels' but smaller and more curved.
Recurve Bow Angel / Effect / Level 1 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 800 ATK / 200 DEF
"And now, everything is set up for the summon of my Number, watch it!"
"Pff," Belle said dismissive. "A Rank 1 Monster? I expected something more … dangerous."
"Wrong. Even two times," Hayk said, "My Monster is the most dangerous you've ever seen and also no Rank 1. I use the effect of 'Recurve Bow Angel'. As long as I control another Level 1 Fairy-Type Monster, I can make all of their Levels 6."
Longbow Angel: Level 1 → Level 6
Crossbow Angel: Level 1 → Level 6
Recurve Bow Angel: Level 1 → Level 6
And suddenly, Belle understood the misery she was in. A three-Material Rank 6 Summon. "Shit," was her only reaction to this development.
But Hayk kept on going. "I overlay my Level 6 'Longbow Angel', 'Crossbow Angel' and 'Recurve Bow Angel'!" His three Monsters turned fully yellow and shot into a galaxy shaped portal.
"Xyz Summon, 'Number 72'! Heralds from the Heaven and also you, my beloved sister, greet your sinister brother! Arise 'Doomlight Archer'!" When the galaxy-shaped portal exploded, a conical piece of white and dark-blue colored armor emerged from it. Slowly it began to dispatch, showing off pale, almost white arms and legs, which were the only thing not covered by the armor, which was white, with blue ornaments on it. It changed shape until it looked like a human being, with blonde hair, before it spread two enormous white wings behind its back and gapped a bow out of nowhere. However, this monster, that looked like an emissary of the Heaven, had a sinister, almost evil aura around it and looked down onto the battlefield out of arrogant, white eyes. Three yellow Xyz Materials cycled it.
Number 72: Doomlight Archer / Xyz / Rank 6 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 2900 ATK / 2800 DEF
While Belle gasped at the Numbers stats, Hayk just added: "And now, we make sure that my sister will never forget me again." After he had said that, everything went black for Belle.
Author-made cards:
Longbow Angel / Effect / Level 1 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 200 ATK / 800 DEF
You can discard this card to the Graveyard to add 1 "Court of Justice" from your Deck to your hand. If you control a face-up "Court of Justice" your opponent cannot target this face-up card for an attack.
Crossbow Angel / Effect / Level 1 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 600 ATK / 400 DEF
If this card is Normal Summoned while you control a face-up Level 1 LIGHT Fairy-Type Monster: Special Summon 1 Level 1 LIGHT Fairy-Type Monster from your Deck with a different name than the Monsters you control. You cannot Special Summon Monsters, except LIGHT Monsters, the turn you activate this effect. You can only activate the effect of "Crossbow Angel" once per turn.
Recurve Bow Angel / Effect / Level 1 / LIGHT / Fairy-Type / 800 ATK / 200 DEF
Once per turn: You can have the Level of all face-up Level 1 LIGHT Fairy-Type Monsters you control become 6, until the End Phase. If this card is destroyed, you can Special Summon 1 Level 1 LIGHT Fairy-Type Monster from your Deck.
Hidden Explosives / Normal Spell Card
Send 1 Pyro-Type Monster from your Deck to the Graveyard to target 1 face-up Monster your opponent controls with less ATK than the sent Monster, destroy it, then, inflict Damage to your opponents Life Points equal to their difference in ATK. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this cards effect. You can only activate 1 "Hidden Explosives" per turn.
Quite a short chapter, isn't it? Actually, I decided to give Belles Number Hunt three, rather than two chapters, so you will get three quite short chapters, rather than two wall of text chapters, since there is so much going on between Hayk and Belle.
No, I am not going to show your Doomlight Archers effect. Don't be silly.
I had such trouble to find a suitable deck for Hayk (who is directly named after a legendary figure in the armenian history, also an archer), since Doomlight Archer was made by me long before this fic was even an idea and I so wanted to use it. I started with Counter Fairys, then Heralds, then Agents, then both of them until I finally settled with my 'Bow Angel' Series.
Also, a new Chaos Number will appear in the next chapter, so keep your eyes on it!
