So, I hope you're enjoying the story so far! Also, if I can figure out the messaging system on here, I'll send you the next chapter if you can correctly guess the movie/play reference in the last chapter! But if I can't figure it out well...kudo points for you!
Read and review, because well...it keeps me writing. Seriously, I ditched my Zutara one because I was no longer motivated to write it. No one reviewed it so I believed that no one read it. Kaatang fans, prove how much better you are than Zutara and KEEP ME WRITING!
Hakoda and Kya retired early, leaving me with Katara and her fiance, both of which were snuggled against each other, exchanging kisses when they thought I wasn't looking. I wanted to leave them be, but something told me to stay, that I needed to keep an eye on these two. Perhaps it was the way Katara was sitting beside him, her feet tucked under her and his arms snaked around her waist with her chest pushed out against his. The way his hands trailed up and down her side made me suspicious of their behavior when they were alone. But I couldn't make any assumptions, for I could only be making these conclusions due to my jealousy.
"So Aang," she said, not moving her gaze from Sangok. They were nose to nose, mouths practically touching but not kissing. It was rude and incredibly disgusting. "What brought you to the South Pole, anyway?"
You. "Um," I paused, struggling to find a convincing lie. "I wanted to see how the repairs here are coming along!" I said, hoping that seemed convincing enough. I looked at my hands, pretending not to see their "sneak" kiss.
"Oh, and how do you like it?" Sangok asked, nuzzling his nose against Katara's.
I wanted to vomit. I had never seen couples so...revolting. "Honestly, I don't."
This got their attention. The both turned their heads toward me and gasped. "What? Why?"
"Because the South Pole now looks exactly like the North Pole. There's nothing unique about it anymore! From what I see, sending the Northerners down here was the worst decision I've ever made! You might as well as have adapted their culture! Katara, ten years ago you told me you wanted to become a bending master, yet your father tells me that you haven't learned a thing. Doesn't that sound a little bit like the North? Women can't bend unless it's for healing?"
"That's not true! Hana-"
I stood, anger boiling through me. "Hana is a crazy old lady! Not to mention, she was alive long before all this started happening. Have you ever asked Sangok to teach you? Does he refuse? What happened to that girl I met at the iceberg? The girl who told me that she wanted to travel to world with me so she could master her water bending, but stayed here because I didn't want her to get hurt."
Katara's eyes turned to slits of hate. "You left me ten years ago, Aang. You left me here without any benders until the Northerners came. Naturally my thoughts began to change as the worlds did. I'm sorry that's too much of a problem for your small brain." She stood, her legs knocking against the table, sending the drinks sprawling.
My hand shot out, stopping the liquid in mid air. I waved my other hand and up righted the cups, returning each drink to the correct glass.
"Don't you wish you could have prevented a mess just like that, Katara?" I asked, a small sneer riding up on my face as I saw her anger fade into jealousy. I glanced at Sangok, whose eyes stayed concentrated on his hand, inspecting every inch of it. I could tell then and there, that he was no different than when I met him in the North. Still a wimp. I turned and walked upstairs before I did something I really would regret.
Alone in my room, I flung myself on my bed, burying my head in my pillow. I screwed things up with Katara really bad. What was I thinking, getting in a fight with her? How am I supposed to win her back if I can't even get her to think I'm a civilized human being?
She wants to be a bender, and you can see that in her eyes. She's threatened by just how much you know, Aang.
AUGH! I wanted to scream. WHY ARE GIRLS SO COMPLICATED?
We're not, we just like to mess with guys heads sometimes! (hey, you do it to us)
The next morning I rolled out of bed slowly, enjoying the comfort of my blankets, wishing I could stay in them forever. But the cry of my hostess made me jump, clamoring out of bed and changing into the clothes she had laid out for me. They were just as comfortable as my bed and I was thrilled with this. I lightly walked my way down stairs where Kya stood beside her seated husband. She placed a plate of food in front of him and smiled softly as he dug into it. A pang of jealousy washed through me as I realized that Katara watched this everyday while I ventured around missing the monks. My family.
She looked up and smiled. "Good morning Aang! Had a rough night?"
I nodded. "How did you..."
She shrugged. "You're very loud when you're upset, then again, so is my daughter."
Hakoda snorted. "Loud is an understatement, darling. She starts bending without even realizing it, isn't that how she freed you from the iceberg?" He glanced in my direction, indicating that he was talking to me.
Kya shook her head. "Anyway, Aang, you don't like how our village looks?" she asked, making me wonder if she had been eavesdropping rather than overhearing.
"Um...no," I stuttered, smiling innocently.
Hakoda stood, tossing his empty plate in the basin. "Finally someone with some sense! The entire reason out village has been so mutilated is because so many form the Northern Tribe came and just took over construction. It's like they want to expand their tribe and assume that we want to be a part of it! I swear, Arnook has something up his sleeve and it is not entirely honorable."
My eyes widened in shock. "Expand their tribe? Just so you are a part of it or..." I trailed off, not sure if I wanted to know what the answer was.
Hakoda cast his gaze down to the floor, his head hung in shame as he leaned against the table, his arms supporting his weight. "I mean, Avatar Aang, that Arnook's intentions are about as honorable as Sozin's once were. About two years ago, I went to visit Arnook with Sokka. He told us of his grand scheme. He has sent scouts to each of the water bending people of the world, gathering followers. I told him he was foolish. The world was finally at peace, he didn't need to ruin what had been brought to us. But there was no convincing him otherwise.
"I had Sokka remain there to keep and eye on things. His infatuation with Yue covered this up, but i suspect that Arnook knew what we ever doing, and decided to send his own spy."
"Sangok..." I mused.
He nodded. "Sangok is Princess Yue's younger brother. He had difficulties bending because Tui had saved his sister, there was no reason for her to bless the family with a powerful bender. But Arnook was ruthless. Since he could walk Sangok was trained in the art. Granted, it took him years to master the basics, he still has become a very feared bender. Sent here to not only intimidate us, but to unite our tribes, forcing us to join them in their foolish battle."
I nodded. "Is he the reason that Katara can't bend?"
He sighed, rubbing his face with is hand. "I believe so. Katara could be an amazing bender, but it is he who holds her back. I have heard him tell her that she should not bend for it could hurt her and any chance she would have at a family."
I shook my head. "So he's lying to her. That sick water bending dirtbag, he's lying to her?" I could feel my palms heating up at my anger. I took a deep breathe, trying to calm myself.
"You two better take this conversation elsewhere," Kya warned from the window. "Sangok and Katara are nearly home."
Arnook is planning awar. How am I supposed to prevent it?
I was seated on Appa's back, with my staff just before me, the only place I could really ever get some peace. I had sent his attendants away for I wanted to meditate. While my bison slept, I put my body to rest as my mind wandered, pondering how this lust for violence was going to be put to an abrupt end.
I could always warn the other nations to be prepared, however that could create panic in the world. Possibly even leading to another nation attempting to be the first to attack.
I could go to the Northern Tribe and try to stop Arnook myself, keep an eye on him and make it nearly impossible for him to do anything suspicious. But something told me that not even the Avatar could stop a whole tribe of water benders.
But there was another idea. Fire Prince Zuko. Fire was the opposite of water, they canceled each other out. Surely Zuko, maybe even Azula could keep an eye on them. Possibly melt one of their homes if they step out of line, but that would be their own fault.
As I played with the idea the doors to the barn slowly opened. My eyes peaked open and I ducked, burying myself in Appa's fur.
"Tuoa, hurry up! I don't want to get caught!" someone hissed.
"Where am I supposed to put the poison?"
"SHUSH!" the other snapped. "What if someone heard you? No one can know that this stupid beast is being poisoned! He'll be cured to easily and the Avatar will be able to make his way to the North! Chief specifically told us to make sure that didn't happen!"
"Well where do I put it?"
"Straight into it's mouth is what boss said," he responded, glancing around.
I flipped off Appa's back, waving my staff in front of me, pushing the men back. The water in the basin crept up and snapped at me, but I blocked it easily with a small wall of flame. I threw my hands up in the air and thrust them forward, freezing the two to the wall, with only their heads exposed.
"Who sent you?" I yelled, my staff shifting between the two.
The two men looked about the room and I sighed, staring down both of them. One of them I recognized. My lips curled back into a snarl. "Hahn. I should have known. You'll do anything to get into Cheif Arnook's favor. Since when could you bend?"
He laughed. "I can't. You only think I'm working for Arnook. No, I left that fool as soon as he promised Yue to that bimbo Sokka."
"Then who sent you?" I asked again.
He shook his head. "No, I'm not going to tell you."
I turned to the sweating man beside him. His eyes shifted to me and his partner.
"Tuoa, you tell him just think of what chief would do!" Hahn said, his gaze staying fixed on the ground.
I shook my head. "Tuoa..." I gasped as the ice melted away from his body, fire forming around his hands.
He smirked at my slow realization and thrusts a fist forward, sending me sprawling. By the time I got up, the two had vanished.
I swore loudly and called for Hakoda, telling him what had happened and that Appa needed to be guarded heavily, no one but him or me could go see him. The search was on for Hahn and Tuoa, but they had vanished from the village.
And there is chapter 3! It could be better, but eh, i like it. Sangok and Katara are modeled after my best friend and her boyfriend in this chapter. I'm sure you get why.
Anyway, strange things are going on! Who is Hahn working for now? :O
Review and show those Zutarians whose boss!
