Chapter 6

I am so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, SOOOOOOOOOO SORRY that I haven't put more of this fanfiction on. I've been really busy with another project, and I know that really isn't a good excuse. This'll be short, since I'm just getting back into the swing of things. But I hope you all can forgive me and enjoy this next chapter!

A swirl of dust rose as the Asgardian king, Thor, landed upon Earth. It had been a while since he was last here. Thoughts of Jane passed through his mind, but Thor quickly brushed them away. It was time to focus on the matter at hand.

Heimdall had revealed to him that Miett had landed in this area, so Thor headed toward the nearest clearing. Through the trees he could see a house. Perhaps the people who lived there had seen Miett. But no one was home. Thor searched far and wide, sometimes calling out Miett's name, but there was no answer. Something was definitely wrong, besides the obvious facts. What was a king supposed to do now?

Finally he decided to go back to Asgard and ask Heimdall to see if he could find her. "Heimdall, open the Bifrost!" he called, and was soon swept back to his own land. "Can you find Miett?" he asked Heimdall.

"I do not know, but I will try."

"Good…" Thor strode away, fingers rubbing his forehead as he tried to dull the pounding headache that refused to subside.

Why in the world did Miett have to run? They could have discussed this whole mess! Thor knew that he was too old to be running around Earth like he did back in the old days. They had been good days, but they were over. Thor had wanted Miett to become the next ruler of Asgard—he'd intentionally made her his heir! But then Loki had to interfere…

Thor wasn't angry with his daughter. Not really; just frustrated. It had been immature of her to run away.

Sif, his old warrioress friend, glided up to him. Her knee-length, ivory-white hair swished behind her as she walked with him back to the palace.

"What will you do?" she questioned.

"I'm having Heimdall search Earth for her since I couldn't find her. This wouldn't have happened if I'd done something different," he groaned. The headache still pulsed.

His friend put a delicate hand on his massive shoulder. "There was nothing you could have done differently that would have made this better. Miett was bound to have found out anyway. Perhaps this is for the best."

Thor scoffed. "It couldn't be for the best, Sif. She is my only heir and besides that, my daughter. I should have told her of her relation to Loki in the first place. Maybe she would have learned to live with it."

He turned to Sif. "If my wife had actually given birth to a daughter like Miett, do you think that I would have handled her better? Maybe I did this wrong because Miett is not my blood daughter."

"Thor."

He didn't look at his friend.

"Thor!"

Sighing, he looked at Lady Sif.

She put a hand on her hip and glared at him. "If you beat yourself up about this, we will get nowhere in finding Miett. If I may quote a quaint little human phrase, 'get over yourself.' You're not the center of the universe. This was destined to happen, no matter how much you think you could have changed it."

Thor turned away from her and paced up the steps of the palace. Sif heaved a sigh behind him, but he ignored it.

He had to find Miett, and soon, before Loki dug his fiendish claws in her.
