In the police station, in an interrogation room, a brother and sister were meeting each other for the first time in over years. Asami and Lee of the Sato family, were reunited at last.
"By the spirits, Lee!" Asami quickly ran to her brother and embraced him in a hug she had long waited to give to her older brother.
"Been a long time, Asami," Lee said to his sister, as he accepted her hug.
"Where have you been? Why haven't you contacted me and Dad? Geez… I have so many questions. We need to catch up."
"First things first, what did Dad tell you after I 'left,'" Lee asked.
"He said that you felt too much guilt for what had happened to mom. He said that you felt responsible for the Triads killing her," Asami said, as she used all the strength she had to keep her sorrow in check.
"Is that what he told you? Heh. At least he made it easy for you," Lee commented, as he and Asami took a seat to comfort themselves.
"What do you mean?"
"After mom passed, Dad legally disowned me. He somehow felt that it was bending that lead to mom's… early departure. I'm sure you are well aware of his current career."
"I can't believe Dad would do such a thing. To what he did to you and providing weapons to those terrorists."
"It was surprise for the both of us."
"So… what have you been doing all these years," Asami tried to change the subject.
"I traveled the world in expeditions. Seeing how there were certain exploring teams that still wanted a place to discover, I thought it would be good to lead them there," Lee answered in a tone of accomplishment.
"Is that so? You mind feeling me in on where you went off to?"
"Certainly. I was able to find that old project that former Councilman Sokka failed to bring into full development, Emerald City, or at least whatever was built for it so far."
"You found the Emerald City?!"
"Marvelous isn't it? Found some good relics there or paths that led me to other places," Lee said.
"I can't believe it. My brother, an explorer. That doesn't seem to connect to the old Lee."
"You remember me. What was that Dad used to call me, whenever I pulled a little a bit of my stunts," Lee asked.
"Lee Luthor Sato, greatest criminal mastermind of our time," Asami said out loud with happiness remembering her childhood with Lee.
After she said that, there was a knock on the door and Lee's bodyguard came in the door.
"Mr. Sato, sir, they just got news about something concerning the masks," the bodyguard said.
"Is that so," Lee responded.
"Wait, what do you have to do with the masked heroes," Asami asked.
"Not only have I been exploring, but I have become a scientific advisor and weapons advisor to the United Forces," Lee answered.
"Wait, you are actually helping them hunt down the heroes?"
"They aren't heroes. They are menaces that believe they deserve to be worshiped. Corin, my sister will be coming with us, if she wants to," Lee looked to Asami.
"I… my boyfriend and friends are here in the station. I'm not leaving without them."
"Oh yeah. I would like to see if this, athlete hot shot, is good enough for my sister," Lee said, "Perhaps I can make room for your friends."
Lee walked to the door with Corin alongside him, but he stopped and looked back to Asami, "Well, are you coming along, or do you want to catch up on better circumstances."
Asami was quite, but she decided it best to along with her brother and invite her friends with them.
Korra setting near the intercom that gave out usual dispatch calls from police units in the district they were in. It had been only a few minutes since Clar went off to the Capital Hall, and so far, Clar had already made an excessive appearance. As she was paying attention to the police scanner, Mako was setting silent as he was waiting for Asami. However, thoughts were running through his head and he decided to talk to Korra about certain issues.
"What do you see in Clar," Mako asked.
"Why do you have a problem with him," Korra responded. "Is it because you really have a crush on me that you cannot accept the fact I'm hanging out with Clar?"
"He is the one who insulted Asami."
"He never insulted Asami!"
There was silence between the two, and Bolin was coming back from the restroom.
"You know these soldiers can be cool if you get to know them," Bolin said out loud, and became quite after noticing the vibe around his brother and friend. "Bad time?"
"Yes," Korra and Mako both answered. Korra started the rub her wrist that was covered by her arm bands, which was over something denser.
"I'm not standing here anymore. I'm going out there to bring some order. Even if it kills me," Korra said, as she got up to walk to the exit.
"Wait, don't you want to wait for Asami. Only a matter time. Work things out," Bolin called out.
"Let her go," Mako said, as he sat back down.
Meanwhile…
"Lan, this is seriously awesome. Look at how the Guardian took out those Intergangsters," Jemien sayed, as he took photos of the Guardian tossing the truck away from his hands.
"Keep camera on the action," Lan told Jemien, as she noticed the UF soldiers bringing in Tarrlock into a secured hands. Lan looked to Jemien, "Keep the camera on action, while I extract an exclusive interview."
Lan waked to the ambulance Tarrlock was taken to, to be treated for any injury he had sustained from his previous jailers.
"Councilman Tarrlock, you mind answering a few questions," Lan called out to Tarrlock, but a soldier stood in front of her with his hand outward toward Lan.
"That is as far as you go, ma'am," the soldier said to Lan.
"It's alright, Corporal. Let her pass," Tarrlock said to the soldier. The Corporal allowed Lan to pass.
"Lan Loin, Daily Elements," Lan addressed herself.
"Loin? You're General Loin's daughter," Tarrlock commented.
"Yes, but you're not the one asking questions. What did the hostage takers want?"
"They wanted me to call off the United Forces out of Republic City. They were Intergangsters. Benders. They were wearing the exoskeletons."
"I see. Thanks for the briefing. What was your reaction towards the entrance of your savior?"
"Savior? He is a menace nonetheless."
"A superman nonetheless," Lan commented. Then an idea came up to her mind. "Superman? I like that!"
"Coincidence. That is what I called him, after seeing him crush that truck," Tarrlock commented. He looked towards where the newly named, Superman was still standing where he smashed the truck.
Superman looked around his surroundings, as he saw the press, the pedestrians, the plice and the soldiers were watching him.
'Hmm… they so love me,' Clar thought to himself.
Behind the perimeter block, a captain military officer walked forward to take a good look at Superman, and he gestured for a private to pass him the speaker. The captain overheard Lan's interview with Tarrlock, so he decided to use the name they came up with for this masked wonder.
"Superman, this Captain Fong. As an officer of the United Forces Corp, and by the orders given by General Loin, I am asking you stand down. Do not make any movement that shows to be a threat," the lieutenant gave his demands.
Clar stood there facing to where the captain was shouting out from, and he knew that whatever action he made would be a drastic choice. But due to the red rocks influence, he wasn't thinking straight.
"I don't think that will be in the city's best interest," Clar responded.
Fong sighed for a moment, because he actually believed that these heroes were doing good deeds by helping the innocent, and now he had to use force to apprehend one of them. Then, Fong looked back at Clar, and replied, "You leave us no choice."
'You do what you have to do, lieutenant. I do what I have to do,' Clar thought to himself, as he looked to see the soldiers moving into position to attack, while the police were moving all civilians more back for their own safety.
"Sir, we have the spec ops team prepped with the equipment," the sergeant informed Lieutenant Fong.
"10-4. Have firebending snipers ready to rain lightning from those rooftops as vantage points," Fong ordered the sergeant. After he gave the order, he turned to see Korra walking up to him.
"Are you the soldier in charge," Korra asked.
"Yes, Avatar Korra. I'm Lieutenant Fong of the United Forces," Fong briefed Korra.
"Call your men off for a moment. Maybe I can calm the Guardian…"
"Its Superman now," Fong interrupted with a correction.
"Superman?"
"Superman. That is what Councilman Tarrlock and the reporter, Lan Loin, are calling him."
"Yeah… listen, as I said, I can probably talk him down. Let me go to him," Korra suggested.
Fong thought for a moment. He really didn't want to take in these heroes as if they were criminals, and maybe with Avatar Korra being able to talk to him, everyone can go home safe.
"Alright, seeing how you are the Avatar, I guess I can allow you to talk to him. If he makes a move…"
"I can handle him," Korra interrupted him. Then, Korra walked past the perimeter blocks, and walked to Clar.
Clar could see Korra walking to him, and she seemed to be down to business in trying to not escalate the situation. However, Clar seemed to admiring more towards Korra's movement in her body. When she got close enough to a talking distance, Clar said, "You look great. Better than great actually."
"Superman. That is what they are starting to call you," Korra responded, trying to ignore Clar's compliment, which almost made her blush.
"That sounds right up my alley."
"You are starting a panic. Look around you. You talked to me about how you wanted to help people and try to look for a better solution. What has happened with you? After seeing you giving me this necklace, you started to act like the exact opposite of how you are supposed to be," Korra tried reasoning with Clar, as she was holding out the necklace that Clar gave to her. It was right at that moment that Korra realized what the reason was to Clar's sudden change in character.
"Clar, did you touch this necklace's rock?"
"More than that. I have a ring of the same rock, and I have never felt better."
"That must be the reason why you are acting like this."
"What if I like how I am acting? I beat up bad guys, and I am not afraid to face any problem that comes around to me."
"Clar, please listen to me. Give me that ring," Korra said, in a sort of desperate tone. Clar looked to her, and walked closer into her personal space, and leaned forward to her face.
"Or what," Clar whispered, as his sky blue eyes looked into her ocean blue eyes. Before Korra answered, Clar was hit by a lightning bolt fired by the firebending snipers. Korra had to shut her eyes from the bright flash of light from the lightning bolt.
The master sergeant on the roof coordinating the snipers on the roof yelled to the firebender that fired to hold his fire.
"Hold your fire!"
"He got too close to her. I assumed…"
"You assumed crap, corporal."
Clar recovered from the lightning blast, and he turned his head toward the direction the sniper shot from. Korra saw the anger in Clar's eyes, and she knew this meant trouble was about to come if she didn't do something fast.
"Clar, just… calm down. Please."
"You saw that, Korra. I'm not going to run anymore. I demand the respect I deserve for putting my ass in saving the innocent!" Clar growled as he got back up, and was about to make a large leap to the roof where the snipers were stationed. However, Korra put a hand to Clar's shoulder.
"Clar, no!"
Clar violently shrugged off Korra's grip, and made his way to the building. Korra only had a few seconds to react quickly before her best friend did something he will regret.
"No more standing by," Korra said, as she ran to an angle and ran towards Clar before he leapt to the building.
On the roof, the master sergeant saw the Superman preparing to jump towards their current location.
"Sir, your orders?" a private asked in a frantic voice.
"Stand your ground, and fire if he moves any closer."
Superman made a powerful leap towards the roof.
"Oh crap," the master sergeant could only say that as Superman made his jump to their location. But to his location, Avatar Korra made a leap that was comparable to the strong man and intercepted his pathway.
The Avatar and the kryptonian were in a struggle against each other, as they were falling into a ditch that was connected to the aqueducts. Clar shook off the disorientation from his struggle with Korra, while Korra did the same but most of it due to her amazement to what she was able to do.
"I was right. You have been working out," Clar said to Korra, as he looked towards her and noticed her parka was ripped from the landing.
"You have no idea," Korra replied, and pulled off what was left of her parka. As she pulled it off, she revealed the armor of Wonder Woman.
"Stripping in front of me? I love that," Clar responded, but he started to crack his fists. "That is still not going to make me take this ring off me."
"Then I'll have to break your finger to get it off," Korra said, as she made her way toward Clar.
"Come and get it, gorgeous," Clar said, right before Korra charged at Clar and pinned him to the wall of the aqueduct.
Thanks to the armor providing the strength and speed, Korra had the even ground against Clar. However, Clar had the experience in using such power. The Kryptonian moved Korra of off him, and he threw a punch that would have connected to Korra, luckily, the Avatar moved her head to side to avid the jab.
Clar got too careless, since he was only thinking about Korra's new physical strength, he completely left out the fact she had her bending. He was meet with a wind blast to the gut which pushed him off the ground and forced him up towards the roof tops. Clar quickly looked upward to see Korra coming right at him with fire burning on her fists. The Kryptonian braced himself, and breathed in and blew towards Korra. Korra was taken by surprise by the powerful gust of wind created by Clar's super breath, and it only took a few rolls on the ground for her to finally get a hold of herself with her Earthbending stance.
In the air above them, there was an air balloon for the Daily Elements, and its passengers, Lan and Jemien were able to see the fight from above.
"This is amazing! Avatar Korra has that Wonder Woman armor that Toph Be Fong once had," Lan commented, as she took note on what was happening.
"Superman vs. Wonder Woman? That does sound a bit too long," Jemien commented, as he took photos.
Superman was throwing a number of punches to land on Korra, but due to his flirtatious attitude, he wasn't taking it too seriously. Problem is that Korra was taking this situation rather serious. She deflected every hit Clar threw at her, and she moved back and threw a forward kick to his gut and launched him backward.
"Wooh! Get him," Lan cheered Korra on.
Not too far away, Clar landed in the middle of the street of Suicide Slums, and the bystanders got quite the shock to see a man fall from the sky and not show any injuries. However, there were some soldiers that were patrolling the area that were supposed to face any activity that seemed out of the ordinary, and seeing a man in the same description of what command was calling the local vigilante, Superman.
"Stop right there," the soldier yelled out to Superman.
Clar wasn't in the mood to be dealing with soldiers, so he grabbed a satomobile that was near him and lifted it up.
"Back away, or I'll swat you away like the insects you are," Superman threatened, but Korra came in from behind and kicked the back of the knee to knock the kryptonian down. The Avatar got Clar in a headlock from behind.
"Please, stop. That rock is making you into this," Korra tried to reason with Clar.
"What happened to breaking my finger to get it? What's the matter? You aren't man enough?"
That last question set off Korra with anger, so she let go of Clar from the headlock and grabbed a hold of his cape instead and pulled on it and started to turn in a circular motion. Superman was caught in the motion and was being spun around by the strong Avatar. Korra then let go of Clar's cape and the kryptonian was sent flying from the amount of momentum gathered from the Korra's spin.
This time, Clar landed inside a warehouse, where there happened to be Equalists and Intergangsters going along with orders set by their high command, and it seems as they were preparing for war. However, the influenced hero seemed to be worried about other matters, such as this Wonder Woman picking a fight with him.
The Equalists and Intergangsters still took the Guardian, who they still called him, as a threat to their operation. Not to mention, the Electrocutioner and Persuader, who were also there supervising this operation in the warehouse, wanted a peace of the Guardian.
Electrocutioner was the first to make the strike by firing his lightning at Superman, but Suerman saw the blast coming and dodged it easily. Using his speed, he knocked the Electrocutioner into a couple of the Equalists. As Electrocutioner was a bit of a hot head to move in on Superman like that, Persuader used his head and he looked to his men for assistance.
"You there, get the mecha-tanks ready!" Persuader ordered an Equalist henchman.
It wasn't long until Korra finally made it into the warehouse that Superman landed in. She was surprised to see that he landed in an Equalist/Intergang transportation warehouse, but she still knew that she had neutralize the current threats at hand. From Korra's area of perspective, she could see the Equalists bringing in large metal humanoid vehicles, and they were all being dispatched toward where Superman was being surrounded by the terrorist members.
The Avatar jumped in and intercepted the mecha-tanks, and took out the treed wheels that it was allowing it move. Once that one mecha-tank wasn't allowed to move, Korra jumped toward the arms and used her new strength to rip it off the joints. The other mecha-tanks shot their grappling claws towards where Korra was, but Korra jumped back to the ground to where the grappling claws hit nothing.
One of the same mecha-tanks that shot at Korra, had its legs busted by Clar, which forced it to lean down to the ground. The other mecha-tank fired its grappling claw at Superman, but it was easily grabbed by Superman and the claw was pulled in by Superman. The mecha-tank was pulled in toward the kryptonian, and Superman threw a hit into the crack opening which allowed him to rip open the mecha-tank to reveal the pilot inside. The pilot was already scared as it was.
"Please. Don't hurt me."
Clar grabbed a hold of the pilot henchman, and tossed him to the ground.
"You should probably rethink your life," Clar said to the henchman, and the henchman made his escape. However, he didn't get far, because he was pulled up into the ceiling by something else.
"You shouldn't allow punks like these to get away that easily," the voice that sent fear into a grown man spoke from the shadows.
Korra heard the voice as well, as she had a few Intergangsters apprehended by her own effort. She looked around the same as Clar, to find where the voice was coming from.
"Who are you to judge how I work," Clar yelled out as a response.
"Who are you to act like some sort of high spirit and expect everyone, including the innocent, to bow before you?"
As the voice was speaking, Korra knew that Clar was distracted, and this could be her chance to get rid of the ring.
"Why don't you come out and face me," Clar challenged the voice.
"You are in no position to negotiate," the voice responded.
"Why is…" Clar was interrupted by Korra quickly getting a firm grip on his hand, where the ring was, and getting a hold of the ring, and managed to pull it out of Clar. After the ring was finally off of him, his eyes flashed red, and Clar felt exhausted from the adrenaline his other persona had on as a reckless fool.
Korra finally knew, and hoped, that her friend was back to his normal self. She kneeled right beside him to help him.
"Clar! Please tell me it's you," Korra asked.
After a few moments in catching his breath, Clar finally answered, "It's really me, Korra. I'm back."
"I'm sure I have questions to ask," the voice spoke again, and Korra and Clar still couldn't find where the voice was coming from.
"But, unfortunately, we don't have the time or luxury to be wasting it on questions like those," the voice kept talking. "If you are having trouble looking for me, turn to right and look toward those boxes."
As following orders, the two friends looked at that same direction, and they waited for the individual to reveal themselves.
"I want you two to look over there, so that I may know how easy it is to manipulate you two, because…" Korra and Clar both felt the sensation of someone being right behind them. Sure enough, there was.
"I'm not there," the Batman said.
It took a moment for the Avatar and the Kryptonian to finally comprehend that the legendary Batman was right in front of them. They have heard stories about how he may seem human, but may actually have made a deal with a spirit to allow him to transform into either a shadow or a giant bat.
"I noticed how you two were wreaking havoc out there. It seems you settled your differences. Too soon for a vigilante and the Avatar to settle so quickly. It is logical that you two must know each other personally," Batman was profiling the both of them. "But as I said, not the good time."
"Did you come here for these Equalists and Intergangsters," Korra asked.
"Yes and no. They were a set survielence target for me. Then you two showed up, and I had to make a move in meeting with mainly the Guardian, or should I still call you that," the Batman asked.
"Errr…"
"You can call him Superman," Korra answered for Clar.
"Superman? Sort of fits you," Batman commented. "I already have other masks, Black Lightning and Green Arrow gathered up at my cave. I just needed to get you two."
"Why?"
"Because these terrorist organizations are planning a massive attack."
Meanwhile…
Amon was in a room where he was giving the orders and plans for his men to follow up on, and as he was doing that, Manhiem walked up behind to tell him some newly gathered information concerning the vigilantes.
"My guys on the streets just told me how there was a fight between the Guardian and the Avatar," Manhiem said.
"Really? That is out of the ordinary," Amon responded.
"Will the United Forces and the press aren't calling him by the Guardian anymore. Instead, he now goes by Superman."
"Superman?"
"You know it does sound cool."
"Superman or not, we still have to get this operation on move. Have the canisters been move to their set locations?"
"Yeah. I got my men equipped with their gear."
"Good. Let's hurry it up and get this operation underway."
Meanwhile in front of the Republic Capital Hall…
Mako and Bolin were with Asami and her newly introduced brother, and there seemed to be a lot of hassle with the soldiers. During that time, Lee was speaking with the soldiers in charge, and the three friends were able to listen in on their conversation.
"So this, Superman, showed the means and intent in attacking the snipers," Lee asked the soldier.
"Yes, Mr. Sato."
Bolin sort of had an uneasy vibe with Lee. He tried to not show it, but Bolin felt it in his bones that this Lee wasn't a man with so much good intentions. That maybe because of the lessons he learned from Xandu about trying to sense someone's soul. The earthbender didn't want to be judgmental, so he decided to ask his brother.
"Mako, what do you think of Lee," Bolin asked.
"He seems okay. I mean, he is trying to help in bringing order to the city," Mako answered.
"Yeah, but… don't you get the feeling when you have a bad feeling about someone?"
"Oh yeah, Bo. I get that feeling all the time."
"Come on, I'm serious."
Mako ignored Bolin's nagging, and paid more attention towards Asami, as she was standing beside her brother.
"So what is going on," Mako asked.
"Lee said that he needs to help out in the transporting of equipment," Asami answered.
Lee was just about to finish speaking with the lieutenant in charge, until he heard a familiar voice.
"Mr. Sato, when you said that you provide the weapons, I expect for those weapons to be in the hands of my men ASAP."
"Will you should have made the time of arrival for the weapons more cleared," Lee responded, as he turned to meet General Loin.
"Well now I need them dispatched immediately. My informants just gathered info about the Equalist/Intergang organization, planning an attack. I haven't lost any battle so far, and I sure am not going to let some terrorists get the best of me," Loin informed Lee.
Mako overheard Loin talking, and he knew this was serious. The firebender turned to his brother and said, "Bo, we may have bigger problems at hand."
"Yeah I heard. You think Korra knows about it?"
"I hope so."
Mako was seriously feeling a bit useless at the moment, and that maybe because how they have been unable to keep up with Korra. He wanted to face these dangers that were threatening the city he grew up in, but there threats were just in a level that he could not keep up with.
On a train traveling in the Earth Kingdom…
There was a lantern burning with a green flame, and it was placed on the train for extra light for passage. It once belonged to a great hero that guarded the nations alongside his other counter peers. But those times have passed, and the time came when the hero had to cast away the talisman. Then it found itself on that very train.
Suddenly, the lantern started to shine brighter than what it was usually supposed to be. It seemed to be the lantern had a mind of its own.
"Worthy one has been found. Must arrive to the one's current location. A new wielder for the Starlight."
Well, that was some chapter. The battle of between Superman and Wonder Woman. Yep, didn't expect that, didn't any of you? Sorry for those expecting a Batman vs. Superman, but I believed that it may have been too soon for something like that. Besides, I wanted Korra to show some power. Now, Clar is now back to his usual self, and the Dark Knight needs the help from Clar and Korra. Amon and Manhiem are planning a great offensive attack against military occupied Republic City. Mako has proven to have the will to be worthy and detected by the Starlight. In other words, he is to become the new Golden Age Green Lantern. What is going to happen now?
Hockyfist- I'm so glad you loved the chapter. I hope you love this one. Bolin doesn't seem to be the only one to have a powerful relic to attain. Two brothers are very alike. To answer your question, he was close. Very close, but he was too close for the soldier's comfort. Book Two? Oh I am so going that route. Just wait and see.
AVP5- Sorry, Batman isn't here to face Superman yet. I'm glad you liked that joke.
AZTEC 15- To answer, as previous questions, sorry, the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight will face off in another time.
Ashbringer36- Well, good friend, it seems that Korra managed to remove the ring. Yes, Joker can be a very annoying at times but he makes up for it with his interesting nature of psychotic nature. I got the rhyme.
Tha-guy- I'm glad that you feel that way. Well, unlike Smallville, you get to see Clark take up the cape.
