Chapter 8: Red Sunset
Finger nails, perfectly manicured and simply perfect clicked on a wooden desk, impatient. The owner of these nails growled low in her throat, her eyes piercing into the man, no, the boy, that squirmed in front of her.
"So, let me get this straight, your telling me that you simply can't find her? I know your either lying or so stupid and useless that a demon of a lower level can accomplish something as trivial as finding a stupid girl." She tsked.
His eyes shot up to meet hers. Big mistake. Her deep green orbs put him under the most guilt he had felt in a long time. He cowered under that glare. "S-so your saying you found her?" he asked, feeling small.
"Yes, Lor has located her. She is in a small town in Japan, living with another demon."
The boy, Valen, sighed. "I'm sorry, I have failed you. W-would you like me to retrieve her now?" he asked, voice cracking slightly with his fear.
The woman put a nail to her lips. "Yes, and take Lor. Something tells me if you can't find her, you'll have trouble containing her as well."
The boy bowed, not even caring about the insult. He just desperately wanted to get out of her presence.
He turned to leave, then had one more thought.
"What about the demon she is staying with? Is there any chance he is strong?"
The woman frowned. "Not at all, from what I can gather, he is weaker than Misao. No worries. At least not for me, someone like you, though," She smiled. "You should probably watch your back. The only reason I'm even sending you is that you're the heir to your family. As pitiful as that is." She turned around in her chair, signaling the end of the conversation.
There was a beautiful red sunset that night. It seemed to flourish with my blood lust, and seeped ecstasy into me like the blood running down my fingers. I had killed her slowly, savoring every scream, and every moment that I took just a tad of her strong will away from her, feeding from her heat slowly, drop of flame by drop.
As I exited the school, Misao hopped over to me in a much chipper mood than before. "You should have tasted his blood!" she squealed excitedly in my ear. I grimaced slightly from the pure magnitude of her voice.
"I'm sure it was good." I said, indifferent. Misao squealed again. "It was!"
I sighed, then turned to look at her. "So, now your going to tell who that guy was, the one that made you go all silent." I said jumping right on the subject. Honestly, her being all not crazy and happy-go-lucky was very odd and something that made me really wonder.
"N-nothing.." she murmured, looking down.
"Bullshit." I said simply, pushing her up against a brick wall, my head only half a foot from hers. "Someone like you," he said gesturing to all of her body. "Crazy, nuts and just so freaking eccentric doesn't just get silent by mentioning only one thing without good reason. Without fear. Now, you can tell me, or I might just have use some force. Up to you."
Misao looked down, obviously scared. "He was an old boyfriend..." She said softly. "He beat me and wants to keep me for his own..."
I raised an eyebrow. "Are you telling the truth?" I asked, not fully buying the story. Sure, it could explain it, I guess, but that seems to simple...
"Yes." she said sweetly. "He is simply a bad piece of my past."
I didn't buy it one bit. I had always been so easy on her, not hurting or killing her when she didn't realize I was a demon king. I was really getting tired of this girl. I clenched my fist and brought it back.
She flinched, fear spreading into her limbs, causing her to straighten rigid, her eyes widened, staring at my fist.
I unraveled my fist, and slowly drew a nail down her cheek. Blood swelled from the cut. "I said not to lie to me, didn't I?" I hissed, pulling away my claw.
Her breath was shuddering, coming out slowly, pain filled. "B-But I didn't lie I-"
I held up two claws this time, bringing them close to her cheek where blood already dripped past her chin. Brought them closer.
"Wait - I... I'm ready to not lie..." she said, eye staring closely at the nails about a centimeter from her cheek.
"Good." I said, pulling my claws from her cheek and licking the blood off the one that had sliced her flesh.
"That man was possessed by a demon known as Lor, who is a servant of my aunt, Sera. There looking for me, I'm surprised I didn't see Valen... He's my 'Fiance.'" She said, giving air quotes.
"What I didn't tell you before is that my dad was from one of the noble families of Gahenna."
I raise my eyebrows, "We have those?" I said, miffed.
Misao seemed more miffed than me. "How could you have lived in Gahenna and not know about that? Did you spend your whole life in Assiah or something?"
I scratched the back of my head. 'Wellllll' I thought, then sighed. "Guess you could say I might have skipped that lesson in demon kindergarten."
"There is no demon kindergarten..."
"Get on with the story!" I shout, getting away from the topic that I seem to be missing the education on.
"Well my dad was the leader of this clan, and when he died, I was to be next in line for that family. My aunt was furious, you see and is now trying to get me to marry into a different family so she can lead the clan."
I raise an eyebrow even father, rubbing a hand over my eyes, suddenly feeling exhausted.
"So your running from this demon servant who is trying to take you back to Gahenna to marry you into a diffident family, so she can lead yours?"
"Pretty much..."
I face palm. "Sounds like the plot to a bad movie* to me..."
Rusted bars.
The smell of urine.
The taste of bile.
The fear of imprisonment.
The anger about everything.
A large cat lifted it's head from it's paws, eyes cold, empty, and full of sadness.
It's two tails rested almost lifeless next to the form of the cat. As the demon shifted, shackles shake and clanked from around all four of its paws and neck.
"Rin..."
A man entered from the back of the cage, away from where the cat sith was facing. slowly, carefully, he slid a syringe into the back leg of the cat, arousing a pain filled yelp from the throat of th old cat demon, who whirled around and pinned the man to the ground.
"What did you just do!"
The cat's word fell on silent ears, unheard and the man began to squirm, trying to get away. "Good kitty, good..."
The black cat was about to grip the man's head in his jaws when he heard the click of a gun, the sound of it getting loaded. slowly, more clicked around the room, and the cat sith could see the dozens of guns around the room, though the bars, trained on him.
He knew what those guns contained. Tranquilizers, pain, hate. Slowly, with a growl, Kuro backed away from the man, who quickly got to his feet and limped out of the cell, closing the door behind him.
Kuro whimpered, the shackles tight around his paws scraping the fur off, chafing him.
"Riiin!" He cried. "Please... Rin... I know your out there... Your not dead... I know It.. They keep saying it... Keep saying it... Please... please..." The cats cries whimpered on and on, saddening, maddening.
Suddenly, the cat sat up, tears still trailing down the fur of his cheeks. His ears were perked, nostrils flaring.
"Yukio! It's Yukio! Rin must be with him! Rin must..." Sadness filled the tom once again when he saw the younger brother was alone.
"Hello Kuro," he said, his voice tired and resigned. "Do you remember what they kept saying about Rin..."
The cat perked up, his tails actually sticking up into the air. The cat then saddened, his tails drooping once more. He looked down at the floor, almost pouting.
"They said he died.."
"They told you he had died. I'm happy to say, we lied."
The cat jumped up. Tails straight up, eyes glimmering with happiness.
Yukio pulled out a set of keys, and unlocked the door, opening it. He then pulled it open, standing off to the side, inviting Kuro to come out.
"You will need to find him, but, he is out there, i'm sure you can do it." Yukio said with a small smile. "Go find him, please."
The shackles on the cat sith's legs fell off. Yukio cringed at the exposed flesh on his legs, saddened by the blood slowly oozing from the it's legs. "so this is how we treat those who have served us so long for grieving over a second lost master..." Yukio whispered sadly under his breath.
"Your... letting me go?" Kuro whispered in his mind.
As if hearing Kuro's question, Yukio nodded.
Kuro padded forward, slowly, then faster, until he was in a full run.
"I'm coming Rin! I'm coming!" He called out, running as fast as his legs would take him, out of the containment unit.
Yukio looked sadly at the floor.
"It was a wondrous Idea, Put a tracker into the cat and use it to track down the traitor. Bravo." said Mephisto, clapping as Yukio walked sadly past him. The younger brother felt like he betrayed the demon who had belonged to both his father and brother.
"You must really enjoy a show like this, huh?" He asked Mephisto without turning to face him.
"immensely." The king of time responded. "Now, don't you have a team to lead onto the trail of a certain twin of yours?"
Yukio didn't answer and continued to mope all the way down the hall to where a group of Exquires and exorcists waited to be off on a demon hunt.
Mephisto clapped again. "Now, little brother, how will you deal with this new play in the game?"
