Chapter 17: Cold as Ice
It was almost hard to imagine. Hans Islesouth was back. But something was different about him. To everyone else he seemed to be his usual self. Punching down anyone in the ring who would get in his way. But Jack could tell he was in some intense training. He was now more ruthless than ever. He was out for more than attention, wealth, power, and glory. He was out for blood. Jack just smirked, like he knew this was coming.
"Hans is back!?" Aster yelled.
"I thought that guy was locked away in prison!" Astrid yelled too.
Kristoff stared at the TV screen with disgust, until he sees Anna trembling in fear. Kristoff held her hands to comfort her.
"Don't worry Anna. I'm here." He reassured her. Anna rest herself on his chest. They both resumed to watch.
"H-How?" Elsa stuttered. "He shouldn't be out of prison, let alone back in boxing."
"I believe you got some explaining to do, Pitch." Jack turned to him. Everyone else turned to him.
"Nothing gets by you, does it boy?" Pitch smiled. "I cut in a good deal. You know, give the Rookie Champion a chance to get back at the renowned Rookie Champion Hans a second time."
"You mean to tell us you vouched for him!?" North bellowed in disbelief.
"Guilty." Pitch chuckled. Everyone was in total shock.
"But… But why!?" Elsa demanded.
"Sorry friends, business is business." Pitch shrugged. "But hey look on the bright side. This might give th fans something to look forward to."
Hmph. I had a hunch you might pull something like this." Jack spoke up. Everyone turned to Jack in disbelief.
"Jack, you knew?" Sandy asked.
"I said I had a hunch, but I wasn't sure. So I thought I'd wait it out to see if my hunch was correct." Jack explained. "And it seems that I was."
"Smart boy." Pitch complimented him.
"I also know that I'm nothing but tool to you. Am I right?" Jack smirked. Pitch was surprised but resumed smiling.
"What makes you think that?" Pitch asked. Jack just chuckled.
"C'mon Pitch. This is most clichéd tactic I've seen in movies." Jack smirked. "To you I'm a means to an end."
"Well then if you've figured that much out than I suppose you wouldn't mind doing me little favor." Pitch smirked. "You see I love to keep my rivals disappointed. Now everyone is a fan of yours I have a request that I think you might like. Throw the match and make it a good word for you."
"Hmph. Like I said. Predictable. I hate to disappoint you, Pitch. Actually I don't, but I'm gonna pass. On that." Jack smiled.
"And might I ask why?" Pitch narrowed his eyes.
"You see I merely used you to achieve my goals as a pro boxer. I wasn't the means to an end you were. Cause I'm going to fight. And I aim to win!" Jack glared at Pitch. Pitch glared back at him in disgust.
"How dare you!" Pitch snarled.
"How dare I? No, how dare you!"
"I will make you pay for this, Frost!" Pitch spat as he left. Everyone else was in total awe by Jack's performance.
"Wow." Hiccup stood there impressed. "Remind me never to piss you off."
"Oh trust me we all know about THAT" Aster mentioned. (See Chapter 12 to get this reference.)
The day ended with everyone packing up to go home. Kristoff and Anna went home together, she felt comfortable being by his side. Hiccup and Astrid did the same. While everyone else was closing shop, Elsa came over to Jack.
"Hey Elsa. What's wrong?" Jack asked.
"Jack. Is what you say true?" Elsa was worried.
"Um, could you be more specific?"
"I mean being used by Pitch only in reality you were using him. Is that true?" Elsa asked.
"Yes. People like him are always up to no good. So it's better to get back at them when thye least expect it." Jack explained.
"Oh okay." Elsa nodded. "Just… wanting to make sure."
Jack smiled. "Elsa. Everything will be okay, I promise." He reassured her. "I won't let anything bad happen to you or Anna." Elsa felt her heart skip a beat. His words were kind and tender.
"I know Jack. I trust you." Elsa sighed.
"And remember our little date at the ice skating rink this Saturday? That'll take all your worries away." Jack smiled.
Elsa's face lit up red like a light. So it is date. Well that's one mystery solved.
"A… A date you say?" She stuttered. She was so nervous.
"Yeah. Unless you think date is a little much." Jack rubbed behind his head.
"Oh! No, it's ok I don't mind." Elsa responded. Though secretly she was a little bashful about the idea.
"Come on, let me take you home." Jack offered. Elsa blushed red again.
"Oh that's okay I think I can make it back home by myself." She panicked a little.
"Oh yeah that's right we have our cars here. So I guess it was kind of a random idea. Sorry about that." Jack felt a little embarrassed.
"That's okay." She giggled as she made her way to the door. But she stops and turns to face him. "Um, Jack?"
"Yes?" He answers.
"I'm uh… I'm really looking forward to our date." She smiled and blushed. Jack was in awe and blushed red himself.
"Uh… yeah. Me too." He said. They waved goodbye as she left the building. Jack just stood there stunned. He just now realized he asked Elsa on a date early morning. He certainly was slow.
Saturday
Elsa was just sitting on the couch watching a movie called Rocky. She hadn't seen it in a long time. So she decided to watch it to feel the nostalgia. She then started to fantasize her and Jack are the characters in the movie. She smiled at the mere thought. But she suddenly snapped herself back to reality. She went red in the face. She then suddenly heard the vibration of her cell phone. Jack was calling.
"Hello." She answered.
"Hi Elsa." Jack spoke from the other end.
"Hey Jack." She smiled widely. "How are you?"
"Great actually. I'm actually right outside."
Elsa got up from the couch and walked to the door. She opens it to a little surprise. Jack was standing in front of her house leaning back on his Mercedes.
"Hey!" Elsa smiled. She hangs up her phone. She walks over to him. "What are you doing here?"
"Don't you remember? Were gonna go to the ice skating rink." Jack said. Elsa gasped.
"Oh my god I completely forgot! I'm sorry." Elsa frowned.
"It's ok." Jack chuckled. "I'll wait here while you get ready."
"Thanks. Again, I'm sorry." Elsa panicked.
"Elsa relax. It's ok." Jack smiled. Elsa smiled back as she ran back to the house to get ready. It wasn't that long. After a minute or two she was all dressed and ready to go. Jack had to admit she looked gorgeous. "Wow. You look good." He went red.
"Thank you." She too went bashful and red.
"So, ready to go?" He smiled. Elsa nodded. "Okay then let's hit the road." They got in the car and drove off.
They arrived at Yerba Buena Ice Skating and Bowling Center on 750 Folsom St. Elsa was just so excited but also nervous at the same time. For the excitement part; she was going ice skating with a cute guy. As for the nervous part she hadn't skated in a long time so she was worried she might have lost her touch.
They rented their skates and headed to the rink. Jack turns to Elsa.
"Excited?" He asks.
"Yep. And also nervous." She answered.
"Really? Why?" Jack wondered.
"Well I haven't skated in awhile so I'm little nervous that I might mess."
"Don't worry. I'll help you." Jack said. "If you fall I'll catch you. If you stumble I'll lift you. I'll be right here with you."
Hearing such reassuring words made Elsa's heart skip a beat. She felt a little red in the face.
"T-Thank you, Jack." She stammered.
They both got onto the ice. At first Elsa almost slipped a little but Jack stayed by her side until she got the hang of it.
The two them skated around the rink slowly but surely. The Elsa smirked at Jack as she began to pick up speed. Jack noticed this.
"Are you challenging me?" Jack smirked.
"Maybe?" Elsa Giggled. Then she dashed.
"Oh it's on now!" Jack laughed. He dashed after her.
The two raced each other around the rink. Breathing heavily but laughing as they went. Elsa was having the time of her life. Jack then passes her waving at her. She scoffs and goes faster. They kept this up until Elsa starts to lose control of her speed and steering.
"Oh no." She starts to panic. She was about to hit the wall until Jack swooped in and caught her. She breathed hard and quivered.
"Elsa. It's ok I'm here." Jack whispered. "See I told you I'd be here."
She looked up at Jack. She just couldn't help but fall for that cute face. But she then realized she was in his arms and she went red.
"T-Thank you… so much Jack." She stammered.
"No problem." He smiled. But his smile turned in a stare of awe.
The two were close, close enough to almost kiss each other. As a matter of fact the two slowly moved their heads towards one another. This was it. Moment that Elsa had unknowingly waited for; a chance.
But unfortunately it was interrupted by the sound of the announcer.
"Attention! We are now closing. Please make you way to exit."
Jack and Elsa then noticed each other and went red as they broke off the embrace.
"Um… Guess we better get going." Elsa said.
"Y-Yeah. We should." Jack stammered.
It was already dark when they got outside. Hard to believe they were in there for so long. Time certainly does fly when they're playing games.
During the car ride back Elsa fell asleep. She tuckered herself out. Jack smiled at her. But then her head slowly tilted her head on Jack's shoulder. Jack was surprised, but he couldn't blame her, she was so tired.
He pulled the car up on the front.
"Hey Elsa." He whispered. "We're back."
Elsa flickered her eyes open. Groaning as she woke up.
"Huh? Oh we're back." Elsa yawned. She got out of the car and turned to Jack. "Thank you for today. I had a wonderful time." She smiled.
"Sure thing. Anything for you." He blurted out. Elsa went red.
"Well… Goodnight." She smiled.
"Goodnight." Jack smiled back as he watched her go inside the house. Jack happily sighed as he drove back home.
He pulled up his car in the driveway and was about to make his way to the door when he saw some tough looking guy stand in his way. Jack calmly looked around to see more of them slowly coming out from hiding. Jack just sighed.
"You can come out now… Hans!" Jack called out. And speak of the devil he appeared in front of him.
"Well hello, Jack. You out for a drive?" Hans smirked.
