Hey guys, this is a weird drabble, but do you know in season 1 where Amber's waiting for someone to ask her to the date, and thinks Jerome is the King Tut person, and he laughs at her, well…it's kinda Amber's take on Jara….
"You're gorgeous Ambs," Mick whispered, hugging her tightly "You know you are,"
"I know," Amber sighed, but still, still it bothered her. That Jerome Clarke could laugh at the very idea of being her date. And she had to wonder why. She knew she was pretty enough, and she had spoken to some of the girls he had dated, she was smart enough. She was the perfect height, she was the most popular…she couldn't figure it out.
As she walked home, alone unusually, she thought about it harder. She didn't like Jerome. The world knew that. In fact she hated him. She didn't like anything about him. And maybe she didn't like him, because she saw so many of her own personalities inside him, and it made her sick to think that, that was how she acted.
Jerome was vain, just like she was, and he thought himself the best of the best, as did she. He was judgemental, and based a majority on looks, as did she. But the difference was, Amber knew she had another layer. Amber had loved, and lost. She had made friends, and earned trust, and shed a tear for those she cared about. She had never seen Jerome do any of those things, and maybe that was why she hated him. She hated his perfect hair, and flawless skin. And she hated how he mocked Mick nearly all the time, and always found faults with others. She hated how after three years of schooling together, he refused to acknowledge her in the school corridor.
Flicking her blonde hair back, she marched down the boys corridor, and tapped firmly on Jerome and Alfie's door. There was silence. "Open up!" she knocked again, there was a groan, and the door opened, to reveal Jerome, one head phone still in, wearing a pink shirt with a black waist coat, completely fashion correct to Amber. She should know, pink was in this season.
"Millington," he nodded "Uh, Alfie's actually not here at the moment, but I'll let him know you dropped by, sure he'll be thrilled," he swung the door to close, but she jammed her foot in, and marched into the room. Jerome frowned, his smooth voice slightly curious "Can I help you?" he arched a delicate eyebrow, closing the door. Amber placed her hands on her hips and glared at him.
"If you're going to humiliate me Jerome, you should at least give me a reason why."
"Amber dear," he grinned, sitting on the end of Alfie's bed "You're going to need to be more specific. I humiliate people every day," there was the big headedness, the blaze of how much better he was than her, that he didn't remember a thing about their meeting.
"Why? What would be so terrible about going to the ball with me? Why aren't I good enough for Jerome Clarke?"
Jerome's eyes widened at this, and Amber was proud. It took a lot to surprise Jerome. He swallowed, pulling out his headphone "That's what this is about? Amber please, don't bore me with insufferable nonsense. What do you want me to say? Yes, you're gorgeous, now go find that real mystery man who wants to take you on a date," he gestured to the door.
"Why?" she pressed "Give me the real reason."
Jerome shrugged "Because Amber!" he cried, wiping his hands on his trousers "Because I don't want too! Because I don't find you appealing in that way at all?" it was a little harsh, but Amber took it.
"So is it because I'm not pretty?"
"No," Jerome sighed, truthfully "Honestly Amber, just we don't go, you and me."
"Jerome," she said more quietly, watching as he sat down. She sat beside him, and placed a hand comfortingly on his knee "Do you like someone?"
It seemed unfathomable to Amber, that Jerome could actually have a crush on someone. He played people, played them for all they were worth, then made them feel like nothing.
Jerome took a deep breath, and gritted this teeth "Yes." He hissed "But you wouldn't believe me if I told you,"
"Try me," she urged, "You wouldn't believe the things I believe,"
"It's…" he glared hard at the ceiling, almost as if he was disgusted in himself for feeling that way about anyone. "It's…" he swallowed a swear word, his anger apparent at the whole situation "It's Mara."
Amber Millington's mouth dropped open. Mara Jaffray? Jerome Clarke had a crush on Mara Jaffray? She wanted to laugh, she wanted to run and tell the whole house and laugh at him, embarrass him the way he embarrassed her. But she didn't, instead she smiled brilliantly. "You would make such a cute couple,"
Jerome turned to her suddenly, eyes glinting with hope "Really?" he whispered "Do you really think so?" it was then Amber saw how much he wanted it. How much he wanted a relationship with her ex-best friend.
"I do," she nodded, laughing "You're like a match made in heaven," Jerome's shoulders slumped in relief, as if he was finally content that someone else saw it. He had been trying to explain to Alfie, but his dark friend was too busy in other, mystery related stuff to truly listen.
"Thanks Amber," he whispered, smiling. Amber nodded, standing, and hugged him before he could object.
"Jerome," the door opened and in stepped Mara. She seemed surprised at the embrace, and Jerome pushed Amber away quickly.
"Mara," he whispered.
"Hey…" she said quietly "Sorry, I'll come back later-"
"No, Mara," Amber grinned "I was just leaving, bye!" and with that she stepped out, but stayed behind the door, listening.
Jerome smiled shyly, brushing a hand nervously through his hair "How can I help Jaffray?"
"Um…" Mara gave a small laugh "I was actually just…" she fiddled with the item in her hand, and Jerome finally examined it long enough to see what it was. A DVD. An elections DVD, the one that he had asked to watch with her. She couldn't meet his eyes anymore, and Amber was literally bubbling with excitement "If you…"
Jerome said nothing, watching her. He didn't know if she meant what he thought. Did she actually want to watch that with him? Or…
"Do you, wanna," she laughed nervously, brushing her fringe out of her eyes, and it was then Jerome noticed her blush "Watch it with me sometime? I mean, I know the elections are over, but it could be fun?"
Jerome smiled, clearing his throat "Yeah, yeah I'd love too," Mara smiled "How about tonight? In here?" she nodded shyly, and Jerome had to resist the urge to kiss her right then. "So uh…" he tried to stop the shaking in his voice "What are you up to now?"
"Nothing much, I was gonna go for a walk actually,"
His eyes lit up, "Can I join?"
"Please," Mara smiled, Jerome followed her out, his arm hovering just above the small of her back.
Amber stepped out, beaming at them. Maybe she didn't hate Jerome Clarke. Maybe she didn't loath every single thing about him. Maybe he had another layer, and he just needed the right person to bring it out.
"Where are you going?" Mick asked
"Shut up, Meathead," Jerome retorted.
Amber sighed.
Maybe.
