Hey! I just caught the end of Twilight New Moon the other night, I'm not a huge fan, but I can appreciate a good intricate plot line when I see one, so I thought I'd do a short little spin...well, I say short...
Enjoy!
Jerome had seen it. Though he'd never say a word. When he had taken Mara, the love of his life, to see his family. He had seen it. His mother...she had been highly disapproving, and though she never did anything, it was what she would say. Things like Oh that's an interesting dress, Mara or Maybe this or this, and this, or all of them, will help you look somewhat attractive...
And Jerome couldn't take it. His father loved Mara, Poppy loved Mara, he was in love with Mara, but he knew, he knew that what his mother said to her...it was ruining the self confidence she had. He had tried to talk to her about it. Tried to tell her that his mother was stupid and horrendous and that no one should ever listen to her, heck, he'd stopped listening yonder years ago. But Mara would just smile politely, and remind him that all opinions count, no matter who they're by.
And Jerome couldn't take it. He couldn't put her through that. So when his father was offered a new job, on the other side of the world, he encouraged him to take it. So he could drag his entire family away, and leave Mara, to have a life where her boyfriends family loved her, and they were normal, and not everything would be so messed up for her.

"Jerome," she smiled at him so beautifully it tugged Jerome's heart out of place slightly, so it throbbed uncomfortably right against his skin. "What's wrong? You don't look well..."
"We need to talk." He said shortly. He turned to look around, they were outside, deep in the dense, dense woods. Nice and private, and it would also allow him to leave quickly, without her following him. Mara looked at him expectantly, worried. Her skin looked absolutely wonderful, contrasting with the darker greens all around her. Her hair was silky and straight and perfect. Her eyes were glittering, and again, his heart hurt. But he was doing this for her. "I'm breaking up with you."
Mara didn't react at first. Not quite believing it. They had been together for three years, he loved her, she was sure of it. But she couldn't drown out the words she'd just heard. The hard look on his face. "What?" she managed, barely above a whisper, but Jerome heard her. He tried not to look at her.
And he managed to laugh "Well come on, Jaffray." He used the nickname he'd given her, as a cruel, ironic twist for how he had never meant a damn thing, and Mara could feel her whole body shaking. "We could never work. You and I? We're just way to different, we have nothing in common, and quite frankly, it's boring just being with you."
"B-bu..."
Jerome sighed "There are more beautiful girls out there." He had to looked into her eyes then, to see if he had stepped to far, to see if she could possibly believe that blatant lie. Every day, he told her everyday, that she was the most beautiful girl in the world. And it broke his heart a little, to see that she trusted him. "Plus, with my dad relocating, I figured, nice for me to get a clean break. Poppy's pretty thrilled about it too."
"Poppy..."
"So anyway." He sighed, pushing his hands into his pockets "That's all I wanted to say." He managed to smile, a good, believable smile that he was happy this was happening. "Just to let you know...our time together was kinda alright. I probably won't see you again." He stepped away from her "Bye!" and he turned, disappearing into the trees. He could hear her crying, sobbing, screaming his name, but Jerome kept walking, and it was the hardest thing he had ever done.

"Don't look so sad. He wasn't for you." Mick whispered. Mara looked up at him, and just seeing his smile, made her smile.
Mick stitched up the scar in her heart. He stitched it up completely perfectly. Whenever she was with him, he was so happy, it made her happy. And though it took months, months of spending time with him, and finally accepting that Jerome...Jerome wasn't going to come back, she didn't lean away when Mick leaned in. And though it didn't feel as good, as it had with Jerome, didn't feel as right.
It still felt good.
"I love you Mars," he breathed into her ear as he backed her into a rock, sheltering her from the cold wind of the beach. "I love you, love you so much," Mara leaned into him, so it was easier for him to kiss her jaw. "You know that? Huh? You've known that? Always?"
And Mara had known that. She had never been certain of Jerome's love, but Mick...Mick had always loved her. She looked into his lovely blue eyes, his breath taking smile and she leaned forward, and she initiated her first kiss with him. "I know you do, I know you will always love me," and she hugged him so tightly, his shudder of relief was breath taking.

But even Mick couldn't keep the nightmares away. She still woke up, sobbing, crying for Jerome. But he wasn't there.
Until one night.
She awoke with a start, eyes wide, a light sheen of sweat covering her body. "Hey," came a voice. She opened her eyes in total bewilderment, and Jerome was sat beside her bed. Her window was open, and a cool breeze blew in. "Did I wake you?" his voice was smooth, and soft, but hesitant.
She frowned, trying to understand everything that was happening. And then she realised. She was dead. "Oh no," she muttered under her breath, sitting up and running her hand through her dark fringe. "Oh no, that's not very good, is it?"
"What?" Jerome whispered curiously, confused.
She turned to look at him pointedly, but stopped to marvel at his perfection. "Well, me being dead? How could I do that? To my mum? My dad? And Mick...oh poor, poor Mick, he'll think I did it on purpose-"
"Mara, you're not dead." Jerome managed, slightly amused, but more serious than anything. "Though...I can understand by seeing me why you think you're in hell."
Mara scoffed rolling her eyes "Yeah right," she muttered, "This is heaven." She frowned for a few moments "It's weird..." Jerome stared at her, completely baffled now "I always figured that in my perfect world...you'd be wearing that purple shirt and tie I like," Jerome quirked an eyebrow, and he genuinely laughed. She relished the sound, it was just like she remembered. Heaven had done pretty well
"Jaffray, my dear, you're not dead. You're alive."
Mara rolled her eyes and smiled, crossing her legs on her bed "Sure I am, then why on earth are you here?" She didn't mean for it too, but Jerome flinched, and was hurt by her bitter words. "Sorry, sorry I don't mean to-"
"How can I prove to you that you're awake? And not dead?" he asked quickly, his blond hair flicking hotly into his eyes, which were glowing with desperation.
Mara frowned "Well...then, to prove to me, that I'm not in heaven...you'd have to hurt me."
Jerome shook his head violently "No. Not again. I'm never ever hurting you again."
Mara smiled triumphantly "Exactly, this is heaven." Jerome groaned, burying his head in his hands.
"Then I have to hurt you," he whispered, not seeing any other way about. Mara waited expectantly, and he swallowed thickly. "Know I don't mean this." He begged, Mara nodded, waiting, knowing that he couldn't say anything cruel, because this was heaven. "I hate you."
Fire. Burning. A sudden blaze of pain igniting in her heart at the same time a bomb went off inside her head and she couldn't breath or speak. And she realised. She was alive.
"Jaffray," he was holding her shoulders tightly "Jaffray, you're awake, you're alive. And I'm here and I didn't mean it." She started sobbing, but not one tear dropped, she was all cried out for this boy. It took a few hours, of lying in his arms while he whispered to her things. Before she realised. She truly realised that this was neither heaven or hell, this was right now. And he was back. Back for her.
"Jerome," she mumbled, clasping his green shirt in her fists "You're really here." He nodded, smiling
"I am."
"Why..."
"Because of the way my mother treated you." He explained, leaning into her touch as her delicate fingers traced his handsome features on his face. "I saw what she was doing to your self confidence, I knew you were forcing yourself to listen and like her, she was hurting you." Mara said nothing "So I thought...so I thought maybe if we all moved away, and gave you a chance at living a nice, happy, normal life, not with a family as messed up as mine, it would be better."
"That's why you dumped me." Her brown eyes lit with understanding. He laughed in shock
"It was so easy," he whispered in awe, placing his own hand on her cheek, staring at her "It was far too easy to convince you that I didn't love you. How? How could you possibly believe me so easily?" Mara said nothing, one tear falling from her eye "Everyday Mara, everyday I told you, that you were the most beautiful girl, why? Why the one time I say you aren't you believe that?" He stared into her watery eyes and he groaned in frustration, and self hatred "You don't believe me? Mara!" He glared at the ceiling "Why do you believe the lie? And not the truth?"
"I don't care if you don't love me, Jerome," she whispered, shaking her head "As long as you're here, I don't care," she threw her arms around him, but it wasn't enough for Jerome. He wanted her to know that he loved her, loved her for everything that she was.
"Can I kiss you?" he whispered "Let me kiss you, let me prove my love through an action-" he leaned forward, but Mara stopped him. Her messy hair falling into her face and she brushed it out harshly.
"No..." she shook her head "I...I'm..." she laughed bitterly as if she couldn't believe it herself "I'm dating Mick." Jerome froze. His blood ran cold and he stared at her with icy eyes. But the bitter glare wasn't aimed at her.
"Mick Campbell." He growled "He's...you're...Mick Campbell?"
"He fixed me." She whispered, eyes watering. Jerome stared at her, hurt and wonder on his face "When you left, you broke me...he fixed me."

"When?" Mick whispered, holding Mara's hand tightly as they walked down the beach. Mara frowned at him "When will you leave me for him?"
"I won'-"
"Mara." He stopped to look down at her, and trailed his finger down her collar bone, as she blushed, he half smiled. "You love me," he nodded with a small smile "You really, and truly love me." She nodded, but then he became sad "But you love him more. One hundred times more. He broke your heart, shattered it. I picked up the pieces, brought you back to life and you will always love me for that. But it doesn't matter who fixed the object, it still belongs to the person you gave it too. And you gave you heart to Clarke a long time ago."
She stared up at him in utter wonder, and she tiptoed to kiss him lightly "I love you, Mick. I love you so much." He nodded, eyes watering, and he watched Mara turn and ran down the beach. To her true love.
Mick could feel his own heart, beginning to shatter. And he realised, there would be no one there to fix him.

Jerome was crying into her neck, and then kissing her, kissing her more than he had ever kissed her, pressing her up against the wall and loving her more than he ever had. Mara laughed, holding his hair in her fingers. He twirled her around in the cold air and kissed her again. "So uh...you love me the most in my purple shirt and tie, huh?"
Mara blushed and nudged the side of his head playfully "I love you no matter what you wear."
He hugged her tightly "I won't leave you, Mara. Not now. Not ever-"
"Don't." Mara cut him off, Jerome stared at her helplessly
"You still think I'm lying?"
"Jerome," she shook her head, smiling slightly "You probably mean well now, and you probably intend to follow through with that promise now. But sometimes things happen, and you can't keep those promises."
"I'm never ever ever leaving you." Mara said nothing, looking down at her shoes "But I guess I'll have to prove that. And only time will then."
Mara smiled, hugging him again "I like the sound of that."

"Don't look so sad," Joy called, watching her brothers friend hugging his knees to his chest as he stared out to the sea "She wasn't for you."
Mick looked up, through teary eyes, recognising the small girl. She was smiling to kindly, he couldn't help but shoot one pack. Joy sat beside him slowly.
And began to pick up the pieces of his heart.
