I'm not exactly sure what to do with this one. The Rock Tunnel is best known (in my circles at least) for being long, tedious, and annoying. How do I turn that into an interesting chapter? Beats me. I have a few ideas, but let's see if I can stretch that into a full chapter.
"It was the most amazing attack I've ever seen a Pokémon preform!" Red explained. Green had asked how Red's battle against Surge had gone. To her surprise, she got an answer. "His Raichu was knocked out in one hit. It was amazing."
"I guess," Green snickered, "You're using full sentences. More than one, too!" Red shot her a sullen glare. "Aha! That's the Red I know." Her joke did nothing to lessen Red's glare.
"Ehh, Wartortle probably wouldn't even feel it," Blue shrugged. He was ignored. Since the three of them all had the same destination in mind, they decided to travel together toward the next Gym.
Kanto was a quite mountainous region, and the only safe way to the next town was across a series of docks that ran along the ocean at the end of Route 11. Unfortunately, Red had already found the path blocked by a large, sleeping Pokémon. The only other passable route was, unfortunately, through a long, dark cave called the Rock Tunnel. The Rock Tunnel was well known for its dark and winding path. It was a hard place for novice Pokémon Trainers to make their way through, but for now it was the only option.
The Tunnel was nearby Cerulean City to the east. There was a Pokémon Center was placed nearby the entrance of the cave. There were also rumors of a nearby derelict power plant nearby. Red wanted to set out and find it, but Blue didn't have the patience for it when it wasn't immediately visible. The group had made good time and hadn't encountered any wild Pokémon or Trainers to battle. Knowing they had a long way to go, the three decided they might as well get the hike over with.
The instant the stepped inside the cave they were met with pitch black. There was no light inside the cave and the sun outside only penetrated in about a foot before the rays were swallowed up by the darkness.
"How the heck are we going to get through this?" Blue more complained than asked. Red tossed a Pokéball. The flash of the Pokéball gave only a blink of the cave around them before the darkness returned. "What are you doing?"
"I figured out TMs," Red responded before turning to his Pokémon. "Pikachu, Flash."
In the blink of an eye, the entire chamber of the cave was illuminated with a soft, but bright light. The light seemed to be produced from Pikachu's cheeks, though it lighted the area evenly. The chamber was made of slate gray stone and was quite high, at least twenty five feet high and composed of long, wide chambers that seemed to guide deeper into the mountain. Between the size and the darkness that usually blanketed the area, it was obvious how one could get lost trying to find their way through. Even with the threat of getting lost reduced, if not eliminated, the Rock Tunnel was still a daunting task.
"Let's get going, I guess," Green said, taking a dramatically big first step. The group started down the path, Pikachu leading and lighting the way. There were quite a few Pokémon around to battle, but none seemed like they would pick a fight themselves so the group passed them. It wasn't until a wild Machop crossed their path that they had to stop their trek.
Red took it on, sending out his Abra. He had sent it out against a few wild Pokémon to try to get it to evolve, though the process was long since Abra only knew Teleport at the time. "Your Abra still hasn't evolved yet?" Blue mocked, "You know it can't attack until it turns into Kadabra, right?"
Red smiled as the Machop moved forward to attack with a Karate Chop. Abra Teleported away from the attack, appearing behind his foe. "Abra, Shock Wave." The sleeping Psychic Pokémon lifted his arms and loosed an electric jolt at the wild Machop. The unaware Machop had no chance of dodging the invisibly fast attack and was zapped badly.
Both Blue and Green looked over at Red, an expression almost as shocked at the unconscious wild Machop's painted all over their faces. "Buh- how did you…?"
"I told you I figured out TMs, right?"
The group continued, but now the Pokémon in the cave were stirred up. Wild Zubat and Machop seemed around every corner and it wasn't long before all three trainers and their Pokémon were exhausted. To make matters worse, they seemed no closer to the exit as they had been when they started. The path not only led further into the mountain, but also deeper underground. There was nary a trainer this deep, but there were more than a few subterranean Pokémon willing to make the trek harder. By the time the sun would have been setting, most of the wild Pokémon were wise enough to leave Red and the others alone. Unfortunately, the near constant battles had already taken their toll. The three Trainers couldn't make camp underground for the night, not with all the Zubat flying around. They would have to press on.
"Argh! This place is infuriating!" Blue snarled, kicking a rock nearby. The rock didn't yield to his kick, causing him a fair amount of pain. "You've got to be…"
"Blue, calm down," Green scolded, "We're all tired. But the only way we'll get any rest is if we make it out of this cave." Her words seemed hollow. She was just as tired as Blue, and even Red was ready to take is leave of the cave. But before Blue could respond, the cave started shaking violently. "Blue! What did you do?!"
"Why is this my fault?!" he shot back.
A Pokémon, a breed the three trainers recognized, rose up and glared at them with contempt. It had a rocky, snake like body and a horn growing out the top of its head. "Maybe because that rock you just kicked was a wild Onix's tail!" Green shot back.
This is short but I'm running out of time. This is definitely something to be expanded on, but that's something for a later date.
