"This was a mistake." Mara whispered, she had her back pressed firmly against Jerome's back, her feet against one side of the narrow cliff break. Jerome was the same, and slowly, very slowly, through team work, they were climbing up. Her elbows ached from where they were hooked with Jerome's. "We should have risked the bears in the forest, if we fall, we're both dead."

"Thanks for reminding me." Jerome grunted, they had shuffled up the cliff face, about 2/3rds of the way. Both covered in sweat, and begging for breath. "I don't really want to die," he moved his leg up slightly and Mara slipped, she shoved her legs hard against the rocks, and Jerome winced in pain, but she was alright. "I haven't actually figured out what to do when we get to the top. Damn. I should have watched to the end of that Bear Grylls episode."

Mara managed a small smile "I couldn't stand watching him eat that goats heart...disgusting." Jerome smiled too. "Jerome, if we die...that's alright, you know? We had a nice good run, 16 years together, we're 32 years old-"

"I'm not 32 for two months." He pointed out "Oh woe is me." Mara laughed then, and they to stop. He leaned his head against hers "Oh, what I would give to see your face right now."

"Risk it, and die?" He chuckled, exhausted

"Come on Jaffray, one, two, three," they both took a step up, and moved significantly further up the cliff. "If we survive this," Jerome grunted "I will always listen to you. Okay? I will never ever brag about knowing a short cut," the wind blew and they both relished in it. "One two three," another step. "One two three," another step. And they continued like this, defying gravity as they made their way up the mountain pass. They had been travelling the world, the couple so madly in love with each other, it was about time they made a mistake. Hopefully, they could rectify this one.

Once they reached the top, they stopped, nowhere to walk up. "How we do this?" Mara whispered, looking around for something to hold on to, she could see nothing. Jerome swallowed, and she felt the movement go down her own spine. "What?" she whispered.

"There's log, in my reach. Pretty sturdy," he whispered. Mara stiffened "I could save myself, but I'd have too..."

"Stop supporting me..." she whispered. The Luck of the draw, she could have chosen to be on the left, but she chose the right, and this stupid right side of the cliff had nothing. "Do it." She nodded "Save yourself, I won't mind dying like this," she was crying and she was glad he couldn't see. The breathiness of her voice could just be the exhaustion in his mind. "For a few moments, I'll be flying."

"No," he whispered, I'll drop my legs, we'll both fall-"

"Jerome!" She pushed her legs harder, supporting him more "I will not have both of us die, now you reach for that stupid lo-"

"I can do this." He whispered, crying "I can save us, I can do this, I can..." but he was blubbering, and he knew none of what he was saying could.

"It's okay, I love you," she let her feet loosen slightly

"Mara, don-"

"Oh my god- Linda!" Cried a man, peering over the top of the cliff, his wife appeared beside him a few moments later, and they helped them both out of the cliff crack.

Line Break

"You were prepared to let go," Jerome whispered, holding her hand as they walked along the coast. Mara shoved him

"You were prepared to jump with me." He smiled wryly

"Touché." He kissed her forehead "We need to be more careful."

"Agreed."

"Also...I'd like to get married," Mara paused, turning to look at him with a frown. They had been friends for years, but they had only just started dating. Limited connection. "Mara, feeling like you might die...I need us to be bounded eternally in front of God. So he knows-"

"I didn't know you were so religious," She whispered in awe. He kissed her forehead, before dropping to his knees, and looking up at her.

"If we do die...can we die a proper couple?"

"How romantic," she teased, kneeling opposite him, and kissing him.
