Hey! I am soooo sorry for missing the post last week. I lost my document for this chapter and had to rewrite it. Sorry about the delay, but I'm here with Chapter 13, also on a Friday... Ohhhh. Anyways. Remember the warning of cussing so if you are sensitive, good luck reading. Disclaimer time! Yay.
KF: I'm back! Missed me?
Me: i did. So, disclaimer time?
KF: Awesomesupergirl123 does not own Young Justice. She also does not own 'Fix you' by Coldplay.
Me: On with Story!
"So you're saying you want me to interrogate him because he has a confession to make and it is better suited for him to confess to someone that can handle people's emotions better than you?" Black Canary asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes. That is exactly what I'm saying." Batman said, "Go do it and tell me what you've found. I will continue looking for evidence." He left and Canary sighed. She walked into the room. The man was fidgeting in his seat.
"Jonathan Jones?" She asked. He looked at her and nodded.
"Yeah." He said, his voice quiet. She sat down in the chair across from him.
"I've been told you have some things you need to get off your chest."
"Yeah. It's just that, now that Alexis isn't here, there are so many things I've found out I've done and I can't help but feel guilty. I mean, the only way I noticed she wasn't home was that in my drunk mind, I was wondering where my daily punching bag is."
"Daily punching bag?" Canary questioned.
"I have had a drinking problem since the death of my wife." Jon started explaining. He took a deep breath. "We were so close. Our entire family was close actually. I never expected it to happen. Ally," She noticed that he didn't call his daughter Alexis,"Zeyana and I, we cared for each other so much, and I guess when she died I forgot I wasn't the only one affected." He looked down at the table. "Turns out when I drinking I took out my anger on my daughter. My one and only child." He rubbed his face. "Oh my god."
"You know, many people resort to drinking when something stressful or depressing happens."
"But that doesn't make what I did forgivable!"
Canary sighed, then gained a determined look. "You're right. But you won't get any forgiveness from yourself or your daughter if you keep on wallowing in guilt. We are going to make sure that we find Alexis, and you will make sure she knows how you feel."
"Alex?" Dick stood up and touched her shoulder. She flinched away to keep some distance and turned her back to them. "I've known you for how long, and I know you would never kill someone, much less your mother."
"What about Phoenix, huh? Would she kill somebody?" She said. Dick was confused.
"Aren't you the same—"
"Are Robin and Dick the same?"
He sighed. "No, I guess."
"Then answer my question, would Phoenix kill someone?"
"No, Phoenix may be a criminal and a thief, but she's not a killer."
"I once thought that too, back at an innocent age. Way before Phoenix was created. But when you're responsible for your mom's death and your father's depression, failed at saving how much lives and was being fucked around by greedy people, you tend to lose your innocence." Silence ensued after her declaration.
Dick looked surprised at her and what she said. He could see it from her point of view, he was in that position countless times, but he knows that Alex would never kill anyone willingly. Yet to know how much it really affected her, how much she was hiding, made him wonder how well he really knew her. Right now all he was seeing was a broken soul that was almost beyond repair. But this was Alex, and he would do anything to fix her.
He grabbed her shoulder and turned her around to look at him. Tears were streaming down her face in an endless river as she turned her gaze down to the floor, hair hanging in front of her face. She covered her mouth with her hand trying to muffle her sobs. Her knees was getting weaker and she would've dropped to the ground if it wasn't for Dick catching her and sitting her on the bed. He sat beside Alex, grabbing her shoulder and pulling her closer.
"Remember one of the only things you told me about your mom?" He asked, though it was rhetorical. She didn't answer. "You told me that you loved to sing because your mom did it all the time. It was one of the most memorable things about her and it made you feel better when she did." He took a deep breath.
When you try your best, but you don't succeed
Dick started singing. Before he probably wouldn't be singing at all, but Alex always had some kind of effect or influence on him, and not in a bad way either. Alex noticed how the first words uttered sounded so beautiful coming from his mouth and how much it related to her. She tried to fix her family, tried to fix her life, tried to be a hero, but trying wasn't enough.
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Both of them could relate and were reminded of some rather traumatizing memories. Dick saw himself at nine years old, crying in front of the broken corpses of his parents, feeling so many heartbroken emotions at once. Alex saw herself at six years old, seeing her mother's body caught up in the disaster happening in the slowly dissolving house because of a fire she started. The amount of pain and guilt she felt after could not even be described. Alex let loose her sobs while Dick held her closer, her almost cuddling up to his warm body.
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
That's what he was planning to do. He was planning to fix her, to give her new hope to be someone she has always attempted to be. She could save people and has the potential to do it if her heart could be fixed, and he was the one to do it. Her sobs quieted a little bit as he rubbed her back and let her cry into his chest, vibrating calmingly when he sang.
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears streaming down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears streaming down your face
And I...
Tears streaming down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears streaming down your face
And I...
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Dick looked down at the surprisingly quiet girl in his arms. She was sleeping soundly, a calm and content expression on her tear stained face. He smiled. Not his challenging smile, nor his mischievous one, not even his fake one. A calm, relieved and genuine smile was on his face, and he laid her down, lying his body right next to her. She unconsciously snuggled up to him more, while he put an arm around her waist and buried his face in her hair. He knew he would probably regret doing it when they woke up, but he couldn't care less.
"I promise that I will care for you no matter what, and no matter what secrets you hide, I will continue to be your friend." He whispered and kissed her forehead before closing his eyes and going to sleep himself. A smile graced Alex's features before fully submitting into unconsciousness.
In the darkness of the Batcave, two individuals were having an argument. The Batman, and the currently unknown female vigilante.
"I think she should know." Batgirl told Batman.
"No." He said gruffly. His back was turned to her since he was at the computers looking for clues.
"I think she deserves to know that two of her best friends have disappeared, she might have an idea on where they are. If she knew."
"It could jeopardize us."
"Exactly. It could, or it could save Robin and Alex." She persisted. He sighed.
"I'll think about it."
"Well, think fast because if you're not going to allow me to tell her, I'll go and tell Artemis anyways." She sighed and took off her cowl, running a hand through her red hair. "Bruce, two of my closest friends are kidnapped and this person must be smart if you can't get their trail. I think Artemis should know who her best friends really are. Who knows? Maybe it will help."
Sorry for the chapter being kind of short. I didn't want to keep everyone waiting once I finished this up so I was rushing to get this out. Remember to review and I'll see you all next time. See ya!
